Elrya smiled, "Are you perhaps from Waltershiem? Seems I remember seeing a magic show there by someone who looked quite a bit like you."

Docks
Dawn on Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

There was a bit of chill in the air, but a presence of warmth on a gentle breeze brought the promise of spring and with it, expectations of a bountiful summer for both farmer and merchant alike.

As instructed, the 10 Treasure Seekers assembled themselves on the docks at dawn of the third day, where Mad Dog Muldoon was there to greet them, before being allowed to board ship.

Whether or not any of them had noticed before, in the first rays of morning light, there was almost an eerie glow of a red dragon stitched on his black eye patch, with its maw opened wide, without a tooth protruding from inside its gaping jaws.

Behind him, riding a bit high in the Innes River brackish water that flowed lazily past the ships at the Heristat docks, was an imposing viking style ship with 12 shields strategically placed along the top of the rails of the 50 foot long, 15 foot wide ship.

Each protective shield displayed the same design of the toothless maw of a red dragon, seeming to dissuade any aggressors or curiosity seekers from drawing too near the ship.

On the prow, looming defiantly over the waters, stood a magnificent 10 foot tall carving of a red dragon, mouth gaping wide, without a tooth to be seen, with snarls of defiance exuding from its imposing eyes and other carved features; much the same as the shields and the eye patches.

Eye patches plural, because the Captain, First Mate and the 18 Man Crew all wore identical toothless red dragon eye patches; obviously more by intent than coincidence.

Even the broad lone sail hoisted into the morning breeze, billowing from its majestic position, expertly secured to the lone 20 foot mast rising from the center of the ship, bore the menacing maw of the 'Toothless Dragon' brilliantly stitched in bright red upon the white canvas backdrop.

The entire ship was meticulously hand crafted from oak, ash and pine wood; comfortable enough for 30 people to traverse the variant waters of Aihrde, with space enough to transport well over 20 tons of a variety of cargo: be it assorted trading goods, weapons, animals, slaves, prisoners, additional mercenaries or exotic treasures!

Introductions were now in order as Mad Dog Muldoon escorted his 10 Treasure Seekers onto the deck of The Toothless Dragon.

Mad Dog heartily embraced the equally burly Captain Crayfish, before greeting each of the 18 stalwart members of The Toothless Dragon crew, with unbridled enthusiasm!

Then he slapped the First Mate on the back, suddenly hoisting the protesting Dwarf high in the air, before greeting him with a friendly, but not so gentle, bear hug!

"This Be Dagger! He Be Short. But He Be Deadly!"
The First Mate Dwarf named Dagger tried kicking Mad Dog in the shins, once both of his booted feet were back on deck, but the tavern owner deftly side stepped the good natured attack, then with a sweeping bow, as he pointed to each of the 18 member crew, declared with boisterous pride:

"An These Be Me Stout Hearts!"
Cheers arose as The Toothless Dragon Stout Hearts brandished their Broad Swords, encircling their obviously beloved leader from adventures past, dancing a joyous jig, as they chanted in unison:

"Mad Dog! Mad Dog! Mad Dog!"
After a few minutes Mad Dog held up his hands, then bowed low and pointed both hands palm outward towards the captain:

"Here Be Yer Captain! Crayfish Be His Name!"
Captain Crayfish stepped forward, an imposing figure of a man, with a green and red feathered parrot sitting atop his right shoulder, sporting a matching toothless dragon eye patch as did his Captain Master, irreverently mimicking his speech when it struck its fancy!

"Welcome Aboard Da Toothless Dragon!"
"Welcome Aboard! Welcome Aboard!"
"Captain Crayfish! At Yer Service!"
"Crayfish! Crayfish! Service! Service!"
Mad Dog Muldoon stepped to one side and began introducing each of the 10 Treasure Seekers by name to the Captain, First Mate and Crew.

Inquisitive looks and flickers of perceived recognition etched the faces of the crew members.

When the Female Bard, Elyra Nightshade, was introduced, at least 3 of the crew raised their eye patches to gain a better view of her enticing contours and attractive Elven features, their now uncovered eyes revealing no traces of damage or missing eye balls!

However, she was treated with the utmost respect and courtesy, with no evidence of the men feeling cursed by the presence of a lady on board ship!

When Areldor Glanolwath the Illusionist was introduced, more than a few crew members mumbled amongst themselves, before someone boldly shouted out:

Ye Be Garlin's Boy! From Da Winged Ox In Waltenshaw!

"We Seen Yer Tricks A Few Times! Enjoy Em We Do! Looks Like We Be In Fer Some Fun On This Here Voyage!

"Not Like When We Busted Up Da Winged Ox Tavern In A Brawl Or Two! But Fun Just Da Same! Welcome Aboard Boy!"

Once everyone had been introduced, Mad Dog Muldoon handed each of the 10 adventurers a matching black eye patch stitched with the Red Toothless Dragon design!

"Ye Kin Wear Em! Ye Kin Carry Em!

"Jes Keep Em Close At Hand N Safe!

"Ye Never Know Jes When Er Where Ye Need Ta Show These Fer Safe Passage Or Help!"

Captain Crayfish, Dagger and the Stout Hearts exchanged knowing glances at one another!

Crayfish then piped up for added emphasis: "Specially Fer Safe Passage!"
"Safe Passage! Safe Passage!"
After a few more informal formalities, Mad Dog Muldoon excused himself to go tend to his duties at the Toothless Dragon Tavern, shaking each Treasure Seeker firmly by the hand, saying:

"Ye Bring Me Treasure! Soon As Possible!"
Day One
Synopsis
For Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Within the hour, The Toothless Dragon was underway, setting course down river on the way to the island of Tagea, as the 10 Treasure Seekers had agreed upon after signing on and consulting among themselves after viewing their maps!

It was a 25 mile journey from Hamistat to Euythus as the crow flies, but the Innes River had many a bend and a turn.

Captain Crayfish, Dagger and the Stout Hearts seemed to be in no hurry, fishing along the way and stopping for a brisk swim more than once!

Day Two
Synopsis
For Tuesday
Marrero 9, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Spring rains began to fall, but the Captain and his Crew seemed to be in no hurry! Instead, they hauled out some protective tarps to help everyone stay warm and dry!

Day Three
Synopsis
For Wednesday
Marrero 10, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Rains fall harder and more often as the Captain and his Crew seem content to hole up near the far bank and wait out the storms!

Day Four
Synopsis
For Thursday
Marrero 11, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

The full fury of the spring squalls hit their hardest, trying their best to dissuade The Toothless Dragon from proceeding further down river, but the Captain and his Crew were old hands at this sort of thing, refusing to turn back from their Exploration Treasure Seeking Quest, before they had even begun!

Day Five
Synopsis
For Friday
Marrero 12, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Their experience and patience won out as the storms passed by and vanished as a fading nightmare.

There were no incidents of wild animal attacks, UnDead activity, or any signs of aggression from unseen or unknown foes!

The Toothless Dragon made its way down river, lazily passing by the docks of the coastal city named Euythus during the late evening, where flocks of Human and Elven painted women stood waving at the passing Stout Hearts, calling to them by passionate pet names, striking revealing poses, while flashing generous glimpses of the promised ecstasies of their personal wares!

But the Stout Hearts are on a quest for their leader Mad Dog Muldoon, so they shout their hellos and promises to return to the ladies inviting arms and perfumed boudoirs, whenever they are able to return to Euythus with plenty of time to spare for such amusements!

They set out to sea under the cover of darkness, veterans of such countless voyages, bending their backs and rowing their assigned oars, focused solely upon their 12 mile course to Tagea, ensuring no other ships will follow!

They rely upon the Deep Vision of Dagger, lighting no lamps, bearing no torches, conjuring no magic lights to shine forth in the darkness; thereby, leaving no trace or clues for other mercenaries, pirates or cut throats to watch from a distance to pursue!

Day Six
Dawn
On Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

In the wee hours of dawn, as the mists rise from the strangely calm waters, The Toothless Dragon draws ever nearer to the harbor of the northern city of Tagea, distinctly marked on each map.

Captain Crayfish summons the 10 Treasure Seekers to gather together around him, then turns and nods to Dagger, who pulls out a heavy bag filled with Gold Coins and proceeds to distribute 10 Gold Coins to each Treasure Seeker, explaining to them that the coins are for any expenses they may encounter after they enter the city!

"Any Expenses! Any Expenses!"
The Toothless Dragon approaches the mouth of the harbor, where the disturbing sight of both the harbor and surrounding coastline, littered with the aged debris of broken bits of masts and hulls, is the only greeting they receive upon their arrival, a literal graveyard of broken dreams and visions!

Captain Crayfish commands his crew to row a short ways up along the coastline, to a beach he reckons is both safe and defendable.

Dagger leads 7 of the Stout Hearts inland to a place where they can help provide a defense, in case the 10 Treasure Seekers are forced back towards the ship in a hasty retreat; yet near enough to join their other Stout Heart comrades, should the ship suffer an unexpected attack, while the Treasure Seekers are busy Exploring!

The 10 Treasure Seekers made their way up a quarter mile sand slope, littered here and there with bits and fragments of flotsam and jetsam, making their approach according to strategies they had all previously discussed while on board ship.

Topping the rise, they were startled to see, about 1000 yards in the distance, the broken remains of a once proud city! Their eyes were greeted by the sight of crumbled walls and what appeared to be an expansive, desolate pile of rubble!

It was evident, even from that distance, that there was not one building standing unscathed from the effects of some unknown destruction!

Serving as a haunting backdrop in the far distance, is the unmistakable outline of a vast mountain range, stretching on a slightly irregular diagonal line across the center of the island, from the southeastern edges to the northwestern edges of the island; bending northeasterly, forming a natural border along the foreboding terrain of the northern section of the island, with not a trace of any of this geographical terrain showing, or even remotely marked, on any map in their possession!

Therefore, the city to the south on their maps, is obviously on the other side of this unexpected mountain range, best accessible by boarding The Toothless Dragon and sailing south along the irregular eastern coastline!

hmm

Looking at barmaid and asking for a small glass wine in common. He turned back Elyra, proceeded talking in elvish and said "Yes I did some work at the Winged Ox on the north side of Waltersham" with a smiled and continued." So if you did see my performance you must have ventured up from the bard school which is on south west side of the city” Then he took short pause “But I would have remembered seeing you at the tavern” then before finishing his statement he slightly leaned forward, looked into her eyes and continued “because you would have left quite an impression.”

"It's still not working Guetis!" The youth was pacing back and forth in the sitting room beyond the storefront, its walls lined with shelves books, vials, and other oddities. His agitation and impatience rising was with each passing glance at the older gentleman who was pouring over texts at a desk across the room, whom seemed not to pay him any mind. "Neither did the last one, nor the one before that! I thought bringing her here world put an end to this, not put her through one trial after another; you still don't even know what's wrong!"

The resounding slam of a book indicated that he'd struck a nerve. Guetis turned about to face the youth, the ire in the his's expression intensified by the sudden glare of light cast by his glasses. " Jaufre, if you are going to insist upon your persistent badgering I'd think you'd at least a mind to keep your voice down; the walls are thin, and she requires rest as much as I require concentration. I'm doing all I can; your fath..."

The chiming of the bell at the entrance cut off Guetis' cold remark, and the old herbalist left the sentence broken to tend to the customer. He didn't need to finish it however; Jaurfre knew the rest. Your father would not approve of such vicious remarks But Jaufre's father was no longer with them, nor was his mother, and a pang of guilt stabbed through him at the reminder; he was being inconsiderate of his host.

For years he and his sister Gale had survived together in their ancestral home in Detmold, a small estate that had been passed down for generations. There they had depended upon each other to keep the estate, and worked hard to maintain the name of the Vanvoie family within the community; even the lose of their parents would not diminish the kindness and generosity they showed. Jaufre spent some of his time in continued training amongst the Paladins whom served Cedrus, as a way to further brighten his home, while Gale maintained her passion of books and study, often trading with both old family friends and scholars throughout Aachen. In this way they were happy, carefree, and content with their way in the world. And for a time this was enough.

But this affliction which now plagued his dear sister put an end to it all; a weakness that had her bed-ridden, and but a shadow of her former self. Jaufre had tried to call upon the divine grace of Cedrus to restore her health, but it was to no avail. Nor was her condition remedied with the assistance of fellow members of his order, or other priests. Friends and experts had been summoned from the City of Cam to attempt to aid Gale, but none could account for what was happening to her; and Jaufre had emptied his family's coffers to provide the resources each thought would help. A glimmer of home had arrived in the form of a concerned letter from Guetis, an old friend of their father's. As Guetis resided in Heristat, a town which enabled him more access to reagents and to his entire lore collection, Jaufre opted to move himself and his sister, selling the estate and paying for a well protected caravan to transport them. Two years have since passed and Guetis stilled played host to the siblings; as of yet only finding ways to temporarily relieve some of Gale's symptoms. The more recent reagents had been a costly acquisition, though not as much as the ones still incoming by ship; Jaufre had seen the last of his coin from Detmold to ensure their arrival, and his heart sank at the prospect that these still would not be enough.

"Calmed down have you?" Guetis had returned, a small smirk upon his lips that spoke both with sincerity and sarcasm. "Honestly boy you must keep hope. If you lack the faith that we can succeed, she'll know; she's as keen as your mother at reading people through their eyes."

Jaufre sighed. The old man was right. "I just feel like there must be more that I can do"

Guetis's smirk widened. "If that's right, how about you go fetch the newest reagents? The ship was just spotted pulling into the docks. "

No sooner had Guetis' request left his lips than Jaufre had set out to gather the shipment; he determined to find a way to save Gale, and with luck this errand would be it. Moments later Jaufre had been relieved to find the shipment intact; some of the previous deliveries had brought in damaged crates or unusable reagents. He travelled with great care to ensure his package didn't come to harm amidst the crowds of the dockyards, pausing only long enough to examine a parchment nailed to a post. A call for adventurers with a promise of coin; perhaps this was the something more he could do.

Jaufre listened to Mad Dog Muldoon with an eager vigour hidden behind a stern demeanour. If the man spoke true he would then have found a way to ensure Guetis could continue his attempts to cure Gale, for the coins promised could buy her more time. Guetis had been utterly against his idea to venture to the Toothless Dragon, and Jaufre's persistence resulted in the alchemist citing that the men of the Vanvoie family were clearly wool-headed fools full of stubbornness and impatience. Guetis had then begun a rambling tale of his and Jaufre's father's youth while reading a tome, during which time Jaufre slipped out of the store; when the man completed his story and looked away from the volume, he could do nothing but roll his eyes. Still, now that Jaufre had committed to going on this adventure Guetis would have to see reason, and perhaps identify locations on the map that Jaufre might retrieve some additional herbs and reagents not native to Aachen. It then occurred to him that he now had a very short time to explain to Gale that he'd be leaving her side; a thought which then filled him with remorse. With his heart suddenly in his stomach, Jaufre spoke little and paid those around him little mind. After it seemed settled that the initial course would be for Tagea, he departed for home.

There would be much to discuss in the days to come.

Underway

City of Heristat
Docks
Dawn on Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd

"Areldor , Areldor Glanolwath nice to me you Amur." spoken with smile, from a young, clean face, gray eyed man. Areldor with staff in his left hand, extended his right hand toward the short stature elf. Then he spoke "blessing and greeting my brother." in elfish.
Amur looked at the hand and he frowned when Areldor spoke in elvish; instead of shaking his hand he reached up with a hand and adjusted his neck length red hair so that it covered the protruding point of his ears.

“Yeah, nice to meet you,” he replied in common and then turned and finished walking towards where the ship and Mad Dog Muldoon awaited.

(OOC: If there are others that introduce themselves, I will backpost to it later.)

Amur remained silent and listened as their employer introduced the group to the Captain and his crew; he did smile a little when Mad Dog lifted the First Mate up in the air which obviously embarrassed the dwarf. He nodded when his name was mentioned, though as far as anyone, including Mad Dog, knew his name was simply Amur. He didn’t know these people well enough yet to impart to them any details about himself; for someone who had been mostly on his own, he was not one to trust easily.

He looked strangely at the eye patches that everyone here wore; it seemed it was a badge of service more than a necessity. When handed one himself he smirked and then slipped it on over his left eye. He left it on only for a couple minutes, finding it blocked his peripheral vision, before he slipped it down so it hung about his neck almost like a necklace.

Boarding the ship he looked around intrigued; he was looking forward to this journey as it was into uncharted territory for him. He had been a small fishing boat once and then not far out of the docks of Eluythus.; this was going to be something much more and it excited him.

He had heard the others mention Tagea as a possible destination; he had looked over the map during the days he had waited for the ship to sail and had thought Tagea a likely starting point. He didn’t object as it was chosen as their first search site, he figured others more experienced and wiser than he could make such decisions without input from him. One place was as good as another in the search for treasure.

Day One
Toothless Dragon
Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd

Amur was enjoying the trip up the river though he found it strange that they appeared to be taking it leisurely when their mission was one of apparent urgency. But he had stored his few belongings, the bag he usually wore strapped around his body, and was now sitting on the deck near the prow enjoying the start of what was sure to be a exciting adventure.

Day Two
Toothless Dragon
Tuesday
Marrero 9, 101awd

Amur was starting to get bored, the crew didn’t seem to in any kind of hurry, the slow pace and now rain was starting to fall making him bored and now wet. He was glad when tarps were rigged out to provide a canopy to keep them dry and take the chill out of the spring air. He was hoping that tomorrow would bring a lot more progress than the last couple of days.

Day Three
Toothless Dragon
Wednesday
Marrero 10, 101awd

He was wrong, the next day the rains were worse and the weather made further progress difficult so the Captain had ordered them to hole up near shore and wait out the storms. This trip was starting to lose it’s excitement, and now the growing storms were making the boat pitch slightly which made his stomach a little queasy.

Day Four
Toothless Dragon
Thursday
Marrero 11, 101awd

This day was the worst thus far; Amur spent most of the days leaning over the rail as his stomach gave up anything he had eaten and threatened to turn itself inside out. The boat pitched violently in the storms and the boy had used some rope to lash himself to the railing feeling like he was going to die at any moment.

Day Five
Toothless Dragon
Friday
Marrero 12, 101awd

The nightmare storm faded and Amur was glad that was behind him; he began to think that a sea voyage was not to his liking. It too him all day before his heaving stomach was able to take on any food and then only a little. When Eluythus came within sight he was sorely tempted to jump ship and swim for the docks and call this mission quits, but a certain sense of honor kept him in place; he had given his word that he would complete this mission and he steeled himself that he couldn’t allow something like this to stop him.

The young boy watched in amazement as the Stout Hearts shouted at the whores on the docks who tried to entice the men much like the Sirens of legend. He shook his head, he had seen such women many times in Eluythus while on the streets. Most had not bothered him when he was younger, but not that he was older he had found some of them calling out to him now and then. He had little interest in women yet, he had started to feel excited by their attention, but usually survival had taken priority over other matters of the flesh. He knew, in time, that he would probably change his attitude towards them but for now other matters such as Gold and riches ruled his thoughts.

Open water ahead seemed daunting to him now, he only hoped they didn’t encounter any more storms; he didn’t know if his stomach could handle any more turmoil. That night, before turning in to sleep, he had sat up and watched as the First Mate Dagger had given directions through the darkness. His own keen eyes also kept watch but the Dwarf seemed to see things even before Amur’s keen sight. Their night passage was quite impressive to the lad and he went to bed that night feeling comfortable that they would reach their destination safely, most likely tomorrow.

Day Six
Toothless Dragon
Dawn
Monday
Marrero 13, 101awd

Amur was up early and again at the prow of the boat as his keen eyes watch as a shoreline begins to emerge from the early morning mists. He grabs his things and is there when the Captain summons them all together and surprisingly gives them 10 GP ea for ‘expenses’.
As the ship enters a harbor, Amur frowns at the sight that is revealed before him; the harbor is filled is now a ship’s graveyard filled with the remains of many ships; this doesn’t look good at all, he thinks. The boy admires the way the Captain and his crew handle their ship and bring them safely to beach the ship; how the First Mate and some of the crew move to set up a defensive position where they are close enough to aid the ship and yet aid the party if need be.

When given the all clear, Amur hops over the side and is glad to feel the sand beneath his feet once again. As the party moved out he took up a position more towards the rear, he wasn’t a warrior, or a mage, his skills lie in other directions and while he was pretty good at scouting it wasn’t here in the wilderness; that was the providence of a Ranger and he was glad that they had one.

When the devastated city came into sight Amur stared in amazement; something had destroyed this city and done a thorough job of it. Surely no people still lived there; more likely other denizens of the wild had moved in to take over. The city looked ripe for the plundering, if there was anything left to plunder. In a city this size there had to be something that was overlooked, some hidden treasure cache perhaps just waiting for them to find it. His heart raced at the prospect; in there, in the city was where his skills would come in handy.

(OOC: If anyone wishes to have interactions with Amur during the journey, please post them and I will gladly backpost during the week.)

Back to the Present

BACKPOST #1 Days 1-2
During the course of the next few days Crow found himself at odds at how to spend it other then training at the Betula temple. Having recognized Tohmas Goodwood among some of the others gathered to join this party of Seekers he had naturally gravitated to him. Talking about the area of Detmold forest and the plains near the two started to build a small bond. Though not a city person Crow did show the plainsmen a little of the town, of course keeping him away from the more shadier parts of it.

BACKPOST #2 Day 3
Without realizing it the days passed quickly for both and now on this third day Crow waited by the entrance to the docks and realized that for the moment he was the first one there. As he crouched with his back leaning against a pole he watched as in ones and two’s the rest of the group made their way to meet with Mad Dog then board the dragon boat further down the docks behind him.

The first to arrive was a male Half-Elf dressed in leather armor with what appeared to be only a pair of daggers for weapons. A thief perhaps, however this was not what caught Crow’s attention but the Half-Elf’s bright red hair. The Elf could only hope that he would have a cap or something, hopefully the cloak he wore was hooded. Without something to hide it, it could be a short trip.

As the Half-Elf took up a waiting position opposite him Crow nodded his head in greeting but stayed quiet for now. Once all ten were gathered he’d introduce himself to all. Why waste breath in nine greetings when one would surely do.

The next to join him and the Half-Elf was his new friend Tohmas also dressed in leather armor and with his floppy broad rim leather hat firmly on his head. When Crow had first seen it worn he had inadvertently teased the Druid about it and was told in no uncertain terms that the hat was off limits. Of course the Elf Ranger never one to discard a good opportunity for causing a few laughs had any intention of obeying Tohmas’s ‘hands off policy’. Now as the Druid approached the dragon boat Crow could see him carrying a wooden shield, short bow and a staff. Nodding his head in greeting he continued to take stock of the other Seekers as Tohmas took up a kneeling position beside him…

As Crow continued to watch those approaching this meeting area a male Gnome walked up to him and Tohmas, also taking up a waiting position. Dressed in studded leather as Crow was himself and carrying what could be 2 daggers and a cross bow the Elf Ranger pegged him as another thief or possibly a bard? Hard to tell with Gnomes as they were versed in a lot of different skills. However like the Half-Elf before, this one also had orange colored hair again another possible problem if stealth was called for.

As he gazed on this Gnome his mind on how to deal with the two Seekers with the brighter then normal hair he almost missed the arrival of the next two Seekers. The first being a male Human in studded leather armed with a broadsword and dirk. By his manor and walk Crow marked him right off as a fighter type, possibly a Knight or a Pali? Beside him and to his right followed another male Human dressed in leather and armed with a short sword and a wooden shield. Though armed as a fighter his shy seeming manner and big grin reminded Crow of a follower, perhaps the knight or paladin’s man at arms?

The next of the ten was one the Elf Ranger was happy to see joining the quest. A male human armed with a war hammer and wearing leather armor, a holy symbol hanging around his neck clearly marking him as a Cleric. Wait, what? On closer look as the human passed by Crow realized the human was a Cleric of the Dwarven goddess Toft! A human not only worshipping a Dwarf goddess but a Cleric of one was to Crow unheard of in the Detmold forest. Plus this human too had orange hair. What was it with orange and red headed participants among this wanna be group of Seekers like the Elf himself, Crow wondered.

Shaking his head Crow was starting to worry as that made three out of ten so far with hard to hide hair without a cap or hooded cloak. But no matter what god this Cleric called his own having one within the party was never a bad thing strange or otherwise.

Next to arrive was another male Half-Elf dressed in normal clothing and carrying both a club and staff. Crow knew he had to be a mage of some type for only one of the arcane arts would seek treasure wearing nothing but normal clothes.

Then next up was the lone female of this party of Seekers another full blooded Elf like himself in studded leather and carrying a wide variety of weapons including a spear, two short swords, and a short bow. With blonde hair and green eyes she looked a little out of place among this male group of Seekers. With her weapons Crow could only guess at her trade. Another Ranger perhaps?

As Crow counted he saw that nine out of ten members of this group had arrived for the moment consisting of 2 Elves, 2 Half-Elves, 4 Humans and a Gnome. For the moment the party was still down 1 member.

Then it was that the last of this group of Seekers arrived at the meeting place and Crow got a little bit of a shock as he recognized his friend Jaufre Vanvoie a Human male from Detmold who had left the area both had called home to become a paladin. The Elf Ranger had not seen him in quite a number of years since that early childhood together. Quickly getting to his feet he moved to greet his old friend.

“Jaufre, by the grace of Betula never did I think to see you here among this group”

Moving closer he first grasped the Paladin’s outstretched hand then moved into a deep hug.

“I guess now that all have arrived it would be best if I introduced myself. I am Crow. A Ranger from the forests of Detmold. Like you I have come seeking the riches of our forgotten world. This is Jaufre Vanvoie a Paladin also from Detmold and a childhood friend but I should let him speak for himself” Crow spoke this with a laugh. “Now who are you all, please let us all introduce ourselves. Seeing as we will face life and death together should we not know who we will be standing beside?”

Then it was time as Mad Dog arrived and escorted them to the dragon ship and very strange crew waiting for them. Reaching the ship Mad Dog heartily embraced the equally burly Captain Crayfish, before greeting each of the 18 stalwart members of The Toothless Dragon crew, with unbridled enthusiasm! Then he slapped the First Mate on the back, suddenly hoisting the protesting Dwarf high in the air, before greeting him with a friendly, but not so gentle, bear hug!

"This Be Dagger! He Be Short. But He Be Deadly! An These Be Me Stout Hearts Here Be Yer Captain!

"Welcome Aboard Da Toothless Dragon! Captain Crayfish! At Yer Service!"

Mad Dog Muldoon stepped to one side and began introducing each of the 10 Treasure Seekers by name to the Captain, First Mate and Crew. Inquisitive looks and flickers of perceived recognition etched the faces of the crew members. Once everyone had been introduced, Mad Dog Muldoon handed each of the 10 adventurers a matching black eye patch stitched with the Red Toothless Dragon design!

"Ye Kin Wear Em! Ye Kin Carry Em Jes Keep Em Close At Hand N Safe Ye Never Know Jes When Er Where Ye Need Ta Show These Fer Safe Passage Or Help!"

Captain Crayfish, Dagger and the Stout Hearts exchanged knowing glances at one another, Crayfish then piped up for added emphasis:

"Specially Fer Safe Passage!"

After a few more informal formalities, Mad Dog Muldoon excused himself to go tend to his duties at the Toothless Dragon Tavern, shaking each Treasure Seeker firmly by the hand, saying.

"Ye Bring Me Treasure! Soon As Possible!"

Then it was onto the ship proper and they were underway at last , setting course down river on the way to the island of Tagea, as the ten Seekers had agreed upon after signing on and consulting among themselves after viewing their maps. For the next six days the voyage was peaceful but for the rain and storm would have been even enjoyable. During this time Crow made sure to talk to each of the nine others though most if the time he could be found with Tohmas or Jaufre or both. Then it was day six and they had arrived at their debarkation point.

THE PRESENT
As the party prepared to begun the trek towards the distant city Captain Crayfish summoned them to gather together around him, turning to nod at Dagger, the group watched as he pulled out a heavy bag filled with Gold Coins and proceeded to distribute ten Gold Coins to each of them. In explanation that the coins were for any expenses they may encounter after they entering the city.

With Crow in the lead the ten Seekers made their way up a quarter mile sand slope, littered here and there with bits and fragments of flotsam and jetsam, making their approach a cautious one. However luck was not to be with them this day as upon topping the rise, they were startled to see, about 1000 yards in the distance, the broken remains of a once proud city! Their eyes were greeted by the sight of crumbled walls and what appeared to be an expansive, desolate pile of rubble!

Evident, even from that distance, that there was not one building standing unscathed from the effects of some unknown destruction Serving as a haunting backdrop in the far distance, is the unmistakable outline of a vast mountain range, stretching on a slightly irregular diagonal line across the center of the island, from the southeastern edges to the northwestern edges of the island; bending northeasterly, forming a natural border along the foreboding terrain of the northern section of the island, with not a trace of any of this geographical terrain showing, or even remotely marked, on any map in their possession!

Therefore, the city to the south on their maps, is obviously on the other side of this unexpected mountain range, best accessible by boarding The Toothless Dragon and sailing south along the irregular eastern coastline.

Looking to the other nine Crow asked.

“Back to the boat, or do we attempt to search the ruins for any thing left behind?”

There's profit to be made!

After leaving the trade caravan that Mylos had travelled on with his father, with a heavy heart and what felt like a hundred butterflies fluttering in his stomach he set off searching for ways to make coin. After all Gallos had said that it was not good deeds and a gentle heart that got you friends in this world, like it had been back in his village, instead it was how heavy your coin purse was.

Mylos had been in the city now for a week and had found many places to explore, but what had held his interest the most was the vast trading square it was like nothing he had seen before. The noise was so loud that on the first day he was so overwhelmed by the sounds of traders shouts and heated bartering that he could not bring himself to purchase a single item. On the third day however he had become more accustomed to the atmosphere and after recalling Gallos' word that he would need some weapons to defend himself he purchased a sturdy looking crossbow and two daggers in need of sharpening. Along with those items he purchased some basic gear for hiking and sleeping rough.

Mylos had intentions of becoming a merchant and knew that he was likely to have to travel long distances at minimal costs in order to make profits. On the seventh day he had found items of real note for any marked down prices, one offer did catch his ear as he walked past a standard looking Inn and the words from an enthusiastic and hardened voice he entered the tavern.

After inquiring inside he found out that he would be given fifty gold pieces and the promise of treasure if he were to sign up for the hunt for treasure. It meant that he was given solid coin and the chance to find some items to sell with just a bit of hard work. How hard could it be?

After scrawling his name on the innkeepers stained parchment he was told of more details. A boat was to set sail in the next few days with a number of other 'seekers.' For those few days Mylos visited the libraries of Heristat learning of trading and the local geography around him. He found an old map of the surrounding territories and stuffed it slyly into his pack, promising to one day give it back.

Dusk fell around Heristat and Mylos returned to the The Toothless Dragon for his evening meal. Once it was brought to him Mad Dog came to his table and reminded him that the ship was setting sail in the morning.

Dawn broke and Mylos made his way down to the docks along with a few others of the ten 'seekers.' Once they got to the deck of the dragon inspired ship they were greeted by Mad Dog who was as enthusiastic as ever. Mylos was beginning to get fed up with they over active and boisterous innkeeper and was glad to see the back of him. As he took in the crew members and Cap'n Crayfish he noticed that they all wore matching eyepatches and began to wonder, with a shiver down his spine, whether he had misread any smallprint. He hoped that losing an eye wasn't part of the contract. Nevertheless, the crew seemed hearty enough though one worry did niggle him. He could barely stand Mad Dog let alone being in the middle of the ocean with twenty copies of him, hopefully the other 'seekers' would compliment his personality better.

Thankfully soon after his disturbing thought of losing an eye the crew members lifted their patches to gain a look at a female in the group and revealed their normal and unharmed eyes. After everybody had been introduced Mad Dog pulled out the Eye patches and handed them to each new member. Mylos accepted his gratefully and joked to the innkeeper,

“I am glad I do not have to trade an eye for one of these!”

Quickly he stuffed it into his pouch, as he had no desire to wear such a strange accessory. Soon after Mad Dog made his farewell and reminded them all of their quest and the ship departed. Mylos was expecting the crew and their captain to be in a hurry to find new treasure and bounty, but instead they were lacklustre and even stopped for a swim a few times. Mylos had some reserve about their work ethic before hand but now he was even more worried, but he had to say he was tempted by a swim himself.

Watching the sailors tread water and laugh with one another made Mylos reminisce about his homeland near the Modling River and all of the fun times he had had with his friends in the fast flowing rivers. Still he did not want to embarrass himself and neither did he want to get to friendly with the hard-looking sailors.

With not much else to do bar ponder what may come in the weeks ahead Mylos unstrapped his lute and began playing on the foredeck recalling some of his favourite songs from his homeland.

On the fifth day they had finally reached their destination of the Isle of Tagea and were handed ten gold coins each for expenses. Soon after, they were ushered off the ship and shown the way to the nearest landmark, a ruined city. A mountain range gave a scenic backdrop to the rubble of the old city and Mylos could not recall such a range being on any of the maps he had studied. This didn't deter him however and he was anxious to get down and start exploring the ruined city.

The boat ride

As the eye patches were handed out, Elyra laughed to herself. The crew certainly had an odd sense of comradeship. Seeing no reason to go against the crew’s tradition, she dutifully donned her eye patch. Then, when she was sure no one was looking she took it off and poked a small hole in the center, just enough that she enjoyed fairly normal vision but not enough to be noticed easily.
Elyra took in the sights and sounds of the sea. Waves crashing against the bow set up a rhythm and the ever present gulls sang a song of their own in time with it. Even the creaking and groaning of the hull and sails seemed to add to the ocean’s tune. Perhaps only a bard would notice such things.

Starting on the first day of their journey several of the seekers took to chumming the waters as their stomachs revolted against the constant motion of the shallow draft vessel. Thankfully Elyra felt no ill effects. During the day she engaged in conversation with the other seekers and the crew. As the sun set each night she pulled out her lute and entertained the others with songs. Some were old sea shanties, bawdy and spirited. Others were tales of heroes fallen in battle. But her favorite were songs from the elves. These she played mostly for herself as the crew did not quite have the ears for such and called for more of the randy songs.

It was the morning of the third day when she approached Areldor. “I don’t believe we had a chance to finish our conversation. Are you indeed from Waltersheim? I seem to detect a bit of accent and you do look familiar.” The two carried on many conversations over the next few days.

Day six found the group within sight of their first destination. Eager to explore a new city the seekers set out quickly. Hope turned to confusion as they finally sighted what remained of the once proud town. Something had laid waste to it. Where once buildings stood and crowds bustled now only ruins and silence prevailed. Her thoughts about what could have caused such devastation were broken when Crow inquired about the new plan. “We have traveled this far so no sense in turning back now. I’d suggest a cautious approach as whatever did that would have no trouble dealing with a group like ours. Might find some treasure hidden away in the ruins.”

Ashore

"Areldor, Areldor Glanolwath nice to me you Amur." spoken with smile, from a young, clean face, gray eyed man. Areldor with staff in his left hand extended his right hand toward the short stature elf. Then he spoke "blessing and greeting my brother." in elven.

Amur looked at the hand and he frowned when Areldor spoke in elvish; instead of shaking his hand he reached up with a hand and adjusted his neck length red hair so that it covered the protruding point of his ears.

Areldor slowly drew back his hand with a look of dismay. This was not the first time he had received a cold reception from his race. Some from his home town treated him with cold indifference due to being more human than elf. “Maybe his opinion will change over time." the illusionist thought to himself. With that he looked at the rest of the seekers and wondered if the elves in the group would be the same.

Areldor took a quick glanced around at the other seeker that had arrived before him, some caught his eye, especially Elyra whom he had a nice but very short conversation last night in the tavern. After his quick look Areldor noticed that Mad Dog had made his present known and was going to make introduction so the illusionist was going to wait and hear who was in this makeshift group.

Something was puzzling him thought as he glanced at the ship and its crew, like the female bard they too were very familiar. Then as he boarded the ship and saw the eye patches it hit him like a lighting bolt, so much that his eyes got wide at the memories that came back to him. He then gained his composer as the Mad Dog introduced him to the crew and they recognized him.

The recognition made Areldor proud and embarrassed. It was great compliment that the men remembered his uncle’s tavern and the little show that he would do for the patrons. His talent was not highest quality , well at least to his thinking but it help him to be confident, practice his spells, some music and most important help his uncle.
The embarrass feeling was what is the group thinking. It is one thing make yourself known it is another thing if have it force on you uncontrolled. This was one of those times. After the crew’s response, Areldor gave a humble smile and a slight bow in acknowledgement.

After Mad Dog finished the introductions, handed out the eye patches (which Areldor placed in his side bag) he left the ship to return to his tavern. Then the voyage began.

Day Six
Dawn
On Monday

We have arrived. I must remember to tell my uncle that the ginger worked very well. Received 10 gold coins and some of the crew with Dagger will stay a certain distance so that incase we need to retreat we might get out alive. The crew is very well trained and I believe they will not leave without us.

Areldor giving the instructions and gold proceeded with the group as the ventured toward the ruined city . The city was hit by some great force, no building was left intact. I was a strange site to the illusionist. There was a great sense of loss he felt for the inhabitants.

"Who lived there, what type of people were they and what happened to them." Were his thoughts as the others asked if we should go back to the ship to travel to the other side of the island or investigate the city at present? Areldor pulled his hair into a ponytail and checking his backpack and side bag then with turned and spoke " I agree with Elyra, since we are here why not take a look."

About The Town...............

Towns were not the areas where Tohmas felt comfortable. Roaming the plain and forest, finding natural shelters or sleeping under the stars was what he knew. The young Shaman had seen the one called Crow among those gathered to answer the call for “Seeker”. He had crossed paths with ranger in the lands to the north and perceived him to be more experienced in these crowded settlements. Knowing that knowledge brought strength the plainsman persuaded the Elf to show him the ways of the city. They traveled the crisscrossing paths and trials lined by wood and stone lodges. Tohmas learned that these were not just lodgings, but many were only for trade and those provided food and services. There parts of the town where the women were very friendly, they beckoned to come join them, but Crow drew him away. Tohmas wondered why the ranger did not want to enjoy the pleasures of the ladies, but he figured the Elf had his reasons. Perhap it had something to with the ranger not wearing a cover on his head. Those that spent much time in the sun and rain know to protect their head. The Elf had made joke to the broad brimmed leather hat Tohmas wore. The Shaman felt he could repay the ranger by advising him to “get his own”, but the ranger didn’t seem to understand and continued to joke. His teachers had been correct that too time in the hot sun without protect could cook your thought.

But at least Crow taught him that in the town they traded their coins for food and drink. The ranger also showed him that he didn’t need to sleep in the stable but instead he could stay in the lodge in his own room with a bed raised on legs. There was bedding and a large stuffed sack that cover the raised frame, much like the piles of grass he had been taught to gather to place beneath blankets. But the most odd item was a pot that was tucked away under the bed. He nearly fell over laughing when Crow told him of it use. Why would a person wish to keep their excrement in their living space and expect someone else to dispose of it? Although this did answer his thought of where these towns folk went to relieve themselves. It wasn’t like they had peaceful grove.

As the days pasted Tohmas learned much of the life in the town. Crow finally explained that the ladies traded their affection for coins and that sometimes they would rob those they were with or perhaps a brigand would ambush the unsuspecting. Tohmas was now able to find his way alone and memorized the way to the docks.

The day finally arrived when they were set off on their journey. Rising early Tohmas found a quiet location for his morning devotions. Completing his respects to Altira, and now familiar with the ways of the Inn, he ordered a hearty breakfast, settled his debt for the room and left the remained of him coin in safe keeping at the Inn. Tohmas was eager to learn more of the ways of those outside the “People”. This knowledge would help him find the fabled lands, but now he had to travel on the water. Travel had always been along the land so he could move among the clans. The plains and forests were his domain, why would he bypass them. The thought of not having firm ground beneath his feet gave him pause. Would separation from the land separate him from his goddess?

Arriving at the dock Tohmas saw that the ranger was already there, perhaps he was eager or he felt it was his place scout the area first. Tohmas was teller than most the group that had gathered at the Inn and he did not wish to draw attention to himself so he assumed a pose of contemplation next to Crow while they waited for the others to arrive.

picking up from where we left off Elyra

Areldor made sure he had stowed his equipment near the female bard so that they might . continue the conversation they started at the Toothless Dragon the night before. It wasn't until the third day that the bard restarted the conversation. “I don’t believe we had a chance to finish our conversation. Are you indeed from Waltershem? I seem to detect a bit of accent and you do look familiar.” The illusionist raised his left eye brow and thought to himself as he stared at the tarp listening to the rain, " They must not let the bard students out much. If she didn't know about the Winged Ox" then spoke "Yes my Uncle Garlin is part owner of the Winged Ox on the north of Waltershem. I would think you might have hear about the place, But then again there are many tavern in and around the city." Since he was laying on his back he rolled over and leaned on his arm to look at the her. "Maybe we crossed paths in the city somewhere? What places did you like to frequent?" he said looking into her emerald eye's.

Conversation

"The Winged Ox? Of course! Been there many times. I even played there a couple nights as a fill in. Amazing what a small world we live in."

when

"Well, lets see. I know it was during my first year at the academy so maybe 20 years ago. Then again a couple years later during harvest festival." Taking a moment to think she added. "They usually frown on students taking paying jobs as we are not accredited bards until we graduate and we would be taking jobs away from other bards, especially with so many students at the academy. Of course I wore much plainer clothes then. Now that I am a full bard the outfit I was wearing that night was kind of a calling card. Names are hard to remember and most folks cannot write so descriptions are important. Not too good for business to not stand out." Gesturing at her current outfit, "As you can see on a trip such as this I tend to dress in this plainer attire but always keep the hat."

Hmm

"Hmm that would explain why I might have seen you but not in this attire. but I know I have hear your voice before it is very good some bards can carry a tune but not sing it" Areldor said with a smile as moved to a seated position and thought to himself "how old is this women?" followed by "I was 10 at the time she had been at my uncle's tavern; maybe I just didn't notice her." he noticed her now as the gesture made his heart skip a little, but pushed that aside with some effort to ask "20 years in the city, well then you must have also played at the small park in the east part of the city called Haverden. Where they celebrated the late fall harvest. This was the only outside work I would do besides doing the work at the tavern." He said with a little pride waiting to hear what she would say.
