Well...

...I figured the "size of the pile" might have particular significance.

Ya... I figure we are going to have a little surprise with Kith. Gib's not aware that there's anything more to Kith's situation than what they experienced, however. So, this will be fun.

The group is walking along a path and coming across a huge pile of excrement.

Cedric: "Doo-doo, haha!"

Gib looking a bit perturbed: "Ka-ka."

Ch'dau: "Uj'nga."

LMAO

There's a reference I haven't heard in AGES!!!!

For the rest of the day, at least, I will be referring to Brom as Captain Caveman!

Language...

Eol using the Kazari native tongue so easily makes me a little bit jealous - I only have one word in the language I'm trying to figure out!

Oh well, one word is still more than none

The level of play and writing skill here continues to astound me.

Language...

Confession time: Once I decided that I was going to use more than a word or two and was going to put some actual effort into developing the Kazari tongue, I started looking into existing languages that might provide something of a foundation to build upon. Soooo, dear friends, if you go looking into the Kazari tongue in depth, you're going to find a good bit of Swahili and other African languages in there. Modified and mangled a bit to suit my needs, of course, but there you have it.

Gasp

I'll never look at you the same!

Jk, that's pretty cool though Eol, and I do that all the time when I make up words and names for different things in d&d. Once I decide on a sound I want, I'll look up different words and things in a language that has a similar sound and then bastardize it to fit what I want

So regardless of how you got there, I still love Kazari!

I mean, it worked for Tolkien, right?

Pretty sure Tolkien's elvish was a riff on Finnish and such, so I figured that borrowing a bit of syntax and structure from existing languages to develop Kazari couldn't hurt.

Of course, rrow'ka and k'hur and those "early" terms have their basis in the funk of my own messy mind, but most everything after is, at least in some small way, derived from Swahili, Mongolian, Hindi, etc. *shrugs* Can't complain about it, at all... It's turning into quite an interesting tongue as it goes along.

Hell yeah

You're absolutely right about Tolkien and Finnish.

well

I, for once, find that to be an outstansding way to create a language.  Why reinvent every portion of the wheel?  If Tolkein can do that and be a genius, you can do it and be cool around here.

Looks like everyone who CAN post has done so (sorry, Kith).  Guess I'll have to bump things along shortly...

Yeessss those posts came in so fast! Let's get this show on the road!

And don't worry about Kith, she's busy chasing Cedric around for that consensual hug.

Heh!

Gods I'm loving this tale! Might have to go back and re-write some of the earlier stuff, when we're finished, and put it all together in a nice, readable format, do a limited self-publish thing and send everyone a copy for Christmas or something... Maybe we could convince Brom to illustrate?

Either way, I kind of think that I might have to knock the dust off of the "staff blog," too, and explore facets of the world-building and language creation that this game has inspired... Hmmmmm... *ponders... scribbles some notes... briefly entertains an idea for a female kazari rogue for another game*... Oh, the holidays might be busy for our facelicking elf!

P.S. Pay no attention to that "edited by Eol" notation on your last post, Pekka... inadvertantly clicked edit, then submit (instead of the back button). I changed NOTHING! Why would I?

no kidding...

I would dearly LOVE to go back and edit the early part of the game, before all of the current players came in.  Have the current players breathe real life into those characters... I think that this thing would make an excellent novel, I truly do.

Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come.  We are now hurtling towards the climax of this story.  I'm not going to lie... I am actually nervous.  I've run so many games through the years, but I don't think I have ever felt like this.  Excited, sure.  A little sad to reach the end, maybe.  But I'm legitimately nervoous, desperately hoping that this story ends in a way that everyone will appreciate (hello, I know that "enjoy" may be too tall of an order, given the life/death stuff here).

I'm deeply invested here.  I carried this tale around for so long... and then, it was all about to come to a disappointing, premature end in the woods.  So I pulled a deux ex machina to save the day, to keep the story going.  I then made a choice to fundamentally alter the tale I had been planning to tell... and in the process, have been treated to some of the absolute best play I have ever dreamed of - let alone witnessed.

This is not the story I thought I was telling.  It has grown, taken on a life of its own, become something different, more intense, more personal.  And that honestly scares me a bit.

I sincerely hope that you all enjoy the finale.
