time to join the ranks

The call to arms was echoing all thoughout the camp. But Kelan didn't need the warning he already knew the battle was coming. He ran outside the tent with his shortsword already attached to his belt. He heard more then saw the ten rebels running to the bridge. And he saw arrows flying all around him. This wasn't the heat of it and Kelan knew it there were still a larger army coming and it was Kelan's job to find them. Kelan quickly and efficiently went though the back way looking for the rebels. He could hear them getting closer but he still couldn't see them.
"Come on." He yelled "Are you to afraid to attack one little soldier." After he said this he started to realize that he had made a terrible mistake.
"Maviar, quickly they're sneacking in though the back as well."
But Kelan could already tell that all the attention was on the first wave and the archers. He was going to have to fight them alone and hope that he could hold them off until the first wave was finished.

Holly+Kelan

Holly:

Hollys next shot flies into the injured archer, who falls limply to the ground. The third archer is knocked back out of view by several arrows from other soldiers.

General:
A counter-charge of about fifteen men follows Rivindell towards the enemy line. They are cut off as five men from either side come out from just under the bridge.

Kelan:

As you stand there, a few soldiers jump up from the tall grass in front of you. Two men armed with short swords, one with a battleaxe, and a fourth with a crossbow. Maviar points at James' squad and orders them to move in to reinforce you, then pulls out his own crossbow and fires a bolt that strikes the man with the battleaxe in the arm.

Holly

I draw my sword, put away my crossbow and cast spiritual weapon and send the sword after the axe man.

As I draw my weapon I say "Idiot," and in an under tone "running in like that. He'll get himself and us all killed." Once I've cast spiritual weapon I add "that should help him."

All this time I'm thinking whether this is a large scouting party or just a raid and wondering why it wasn't conducted in the middle of the night.

.

The enchanted sword streaks outward towards the axeman, who glances nervously at the unheld blade. Not knowing how to respond, he is quickly cut down by a violent slice to the neck.

James and his squad rush out, and come within about ten feet of reinforcing Kelan. One of the men armed with a short sword swings wildly, his sword hissing by Kelan's arm. The other has better aim, cutting his blade into Kelan's side. (2 damage)

One of the remaining archers falls in a volley of arrows and bolts, the other staves off pain from a shoulder hit and fires, striking Holly by the shoulder blade (3 damage)

The outmaneuvered counter-charge shrinks to a circle, surrounded by 20 men. A second line continues onward, one of the soldiers motioning to Intil and Arrowhawk to follow him, even as five or so soldiers arrive from the forests.

Clearly, whoever designed this ambush did not put much thought into it in some aspects.

wounded

Kelen screams out in pain as the blade sturck him in the side. Now he was pissed he grabs one of the rebels by the hair and proceeds to scalp him making sure that he cut just low enough to to get a piece of the rebel's brain giving the rebel a slow and painful death. He then pulled out four arrows and put the scalp on one of the arrows and stuck it into the ground standing up. he then took the other three arrows and took a feather off each arrow so they would all fire in different directions sticking he hoped the three rebels that just passed him. And pulled back the sting on his bow and released. Sending all three arrows in the direction of their targets. One left Kelen made a mental note. And seeing the rage of Kelen the other rebel was hiding.
Look, Dirtwipe I'm injured and I don't want to waste my time and my energy searching for ya. Kelen thoug!ht to himself.
"Come out where I can see ya!" Kelen yells
The rebel starts to make a run for it. Kelen Pulls out another arrow ands releases it sticking in the back of the knee. The rebel stumbles but gets right back up and starts running with a bit of a limp. Kelen thinks to himself and groans. Kelen runs after the rebel blood now gushing out of his wound and sticks with his sword into the rebels injured knee. The rebel falls to the ground and doesn't get back up.
Turning to James "What are you standing around for grap some men and help carry this one off, we'll keep him alive for questioning."
Kelen then places his sword in the ground and leans on it heavily. Turning to one of the soldiers "And you there call for a medic I need to be treated at once." and with that all of Kelen's energy goes away and he collapes.

Holly

I go over to Kelen and cast Cure Light Wounds saying "That will show him not to charge blindly." and once he comes round I ask "You feeling better?" and direct my sword to chase after the lone archer, if he's still alive and if he isn't then I send it after the closed swords man.

Kelan his healed, and Holly's sword catches up to the archer, who turns in fear and tries a pathetic block with the bow, which is cut in half as the blade passes into his shoulder blade, downin him. James and his squad catch up to and surround the remain man, quickly killing him.

what the heck

Kelen awakens a little light headed. He listens as the other soldiers kill the last man.
Turning to James. " What the heck do you think you are doing? I gave you a direct order that I wanted him alive for questioning. If you ever disobey another direct order again I will personally behead you and put your head on that spear over there." He yells pointing to a spear not twenty feet away. " and I'll stick in the ground right in front of my tent as a warning to all the other troops who even think of disobeying a direct order, Do you understand me?!"
Kelen then turns to Holly and fills a little dizzy. As holly tries to steady him he holds onto her hand. "I'm fine." he replies then he slowly but steadily makes his way back to camp.

Holly

I take to looking around of soldiers that are badly hurt (I define badly hurt as the loss of half their hit points) and i only want to use up one more of my 1st level spells (Cure Light Wounds) spells so its first come only served.

"Would of been nice to have someone to 'interview' about the raid but that would mean prolonging their suffering so perhaps its for the best" I say addressing Kelen. "I mean it would be nice to know but its against my principals to unnecessary hurt other people."

I also think that Kelen is a particular violent man and that he could jeopardise his safety and that he will need protecting against himself, his poor decisions and big mouth.

Gentler side

Kelen could see in Holly's eyes that she didn't trust him he assumed that she thought he was reckless in going and fighting a battle all by himself and maybe she was right. But to Kelen that was all part of his job as a scout. But Kelen also saw a tinkle of something else in her eyes something that puzzled him, he thought he saw compation and A pure awe of what he wasn't sure but there was something about her that made his heart skip a couple of beats. No surely he was imagining things. He had just lost a lot of blood that was all and he still hadn't recovered yet. He turned and faced Holly again, and again his heart skipped a couple of beats. He wasn't imagining things this was real, he had fallen head over hills for Holly. He headed back to his tent to get some rest. But all he could think about was how kind the elvin lady was. Then he finally fell asleep

I look after Kelan in a curious way and then I turn to (whoever's in charge) and say
"What shall we do with the bodies?"
Then I go and check whats on the archers bodies, there might be some clues to who sent them and why.

James raises his eyebrow knowingly as Kelan looks at Holly.

When Holly asks what to do with the bodies, as Maviar is off helping the medics to tend the wounded, James answers.

"We usually burn them. But we might want to make sure they're all dead first. The one on the left's blood is still flowing."

He observes, pointing towards the archer the animated sword, now useless on the grass, had cut down.

"Don't give me that look James, I know, it is the 5th time I've healed someone and they've 'fallen in love' with me. He'll get over his emotions soon." I say in response to James raised eyebrow.

I check the bodies for anything suspicious then when the the bodies are being burnt I say a prayer for the dead. Perform the lasts rights.
It's important to honer the dead whether they be our enemies or friends.

A medic hears James speak and quickly rushes over to the man he points out. Lightly touching his shoulder, a small burst of healing barely brings him to waken.

"Someone here know how to interrogate?" He calls.

"Sorry, no. There wasn't much need for it where I came from, how about Maviar. He should of acquired that skill somewhere."
