A Lady uses and speaks her Mind

Alasdair having traveled with Maggot only a brief time could agree to some of the parties concerns and also could see both sides of the issue. He knew that Maggot was not evil, having picked up no such detection when first they had met outside of the mountain’s entrance He was about to speak of his findings to the others when the argument reached a sort of breaking point, brought about by Cor once more. As he had with Ulthok, so too did he do so with Maggot and Kenji, demanding the making of a choice.

"As I see it there are 2 options; first Maggot can leave us or second Kenji can leave. That is unless master Kenji can feel comfortable putting his life in the hands of Maggot and vice versa. There is little time to waste as we must get through this room soon for I fear we are not alone in these halls anymore and dare not tally. Well which will it be?"
“As I stated,” Kenji began, “I will abide by your decision as you are the leader of this group and I will put up with this evil blade among us if that is your command but to putting my life in the hands of one who carries obvious evil... that I will not do.

I will travel with the group and continue to lend my support to it, but as long as a chance of evil betrayal exists, I will not trust this one and I will continue to watch and beware.”

Then as if somehow expecting this Maggot silenced the room and began to speak, in a very calm tone as if he had done this a hundred times before, as he slowly removed items that the party had given to him.

“Please, I see my presence here is not completely accepted. These things I have left, I thank you for the clothing and food but I have not yet earned them. These are rare herbs that one among you might find useful in healing. It is a small gift.”
With these words spoken the man called Maggot begin his goodbyes to each of the party before him, the first to the lady Althena showing to her an almost familiarity as if perhaps a loving family member. Then from her he turned and moved toward her lover, leaving Althena with a confused feeling.

Now Althena had watched both Cor and Siréne cast their Auguries, then Haila her spells, and for all that she remained quiet, glad that Alasdair was once again by her side. However with the revealing of the evil sword melded into Maggot’s living flesh it was her turn to be stunned. For a moment as unsure as the rest of the party to the nature of this evil she was quick to recover. With Maggot’s words to her finished and leaving her feeling confused she quickly shook herself out of both shock and confusion. Taking advantage of the Ranger/Bard’s closeness and attuning her mind towards the sword she brought forth her psionic powers of Contact and Mind link, and though yes the sword was quite evil and could grant the user great powers, she felt no intelligence from it at all.

Unlike Karza’s sword forged in the deepest reaches of Cirath Ungol, this was not a sword that could in anyway gain control of it’s wielder. And by the look of it, covered in rotting, yet somehow alive skin, even drawing it could be the death of Ranger/Bard. And with that discovery came a stolen memory, as her mind brushed over that of Maggot’s, and she knew this one for who he truly was, a name told to her many a night, his tale of friendship with her Father not a lie.

As Maggot turned away from Cor, his final goodbye, she quickly moved to block his path and stopped him from moving to a nonexistent door.

“Hold your steps, for I now know who you truly are, told to me by my Father as a tale told to a sleepless daughter one lonely night. I know of you as a brave man full of love for his brother and who unable to kill the killer of that brother nonetheless took from her the weapon she used. I feel that your destiny as well as mine are tied together in a promise he told me you gave him. That when the time came for me to undertake great risk you would be there to help him, by protecting me. You seek to leave as is your right but have you forgotten there is no turning back, only forward.“
Turning to the rest of the party catching in her gaze specifically that of Kenji and Cor.

“Have you all forgotten why we are here, have you. We are here to recover a weapon of great evil such as this world has encountered once before. If not for my father and this man, his friend, none of us would be here now as free peoples. Our world would be a thing of death and damnation ruled by a King born from the mist’s of chaos If you need someone to vouch for him, then so be it I give it. I myself will take on the full responsibility of his being among us and any actions he will undertake on our behalf.”
Pausing to gain a breath she then continues.

“We are united in a cause greater then each of us, to keep the sword away from it’s master. A master more powerful then any left upon this world, in this time. I know each of us has our own beliefs in right and wrong but do they really matter in the scope of what we must do?. If we must tolerate a small evil among us to stop the escape of a greater world shattering evil is that not a small price to pay to see our world safe once more.

I have used my mind to scan the sword on Faraddien’s back and in no way can it control its wielder. Look at it, look carefully, can you not each see for he to even draw it, is to kill himself as intertwined in his body is it. What say you all, can we put this behind us and move forward, for Cor is correct, we are no longer alone in these tests.”

With her words spoken she leaned closer to Alasdair to gain the comfort of his warmth waiting for Maggot, the party, and their leader Cor’s response.

(DM OOC: Ok awesome role play!! This is the kind of role play I so do love and why I keep Trilogy going and going like the energizer bunny .
Please keep it up as it gave me some great stuff to post off of as before all the RP started it was to be just a sort of recap post.

Keeper I know by your post in the Q/A you think all this RP is slowing the game down but you have to remember this is not like a table top game where you can cover 5 years of online game time in one or two months. Characters have backgrounds and personalities and to not role play that would make creating a character pointless and then what’s the point of playing in an RPG game?? You more then anyone should know this as Cor under your excellent direction is consistently run the same way, following and staying true to his background and personality. As irritating as he can be at times for me the DM that’s the character and your notion of him, his belief’s and personality..

So again to everyone, great posting and my next post will be next Sunday or Monday night .)

well said

"Well spoken me lady and thank you for the insight as it puts me even more at ease. Still we must all trust each other with our lives or we are to suceed. Yes Master Kenji you have proven yourself and all I ask is that this lad be given the same chance. From now on you and he will walk together behind Ulthock in the hallways between rooms." Turning to Maggot, "And you, I never gave my permission for you to leave. Gather up your things for we have no time for theatrics."

"Now, who will stand and gaze upon the amber light with me?"

Rayne

Rayne listened to the carious responses made by the members of their group. She had made her decision for herself but fully realized that everyone else also had a right to make a decision for themselves. Even with Althena's revelation some wold need to take some time to think about it and revise or hold to their decision, so she waited ready to move until until others were ready as well.

When Cor called maggot no Faraddien lad, she smiled. He was Althena's father's contemporary, and certainly was no "lad". Rayne had to admit before it was only on unfounded trust that she was ready to take him on with now is was something else.

Rayne moved forward, picked up the discarded clothes and moved over to Faraddien. She held up the clothes to him. "Just give them a chance to take this all in,"she spoke to him softly, "If you take some time to dress first it will probable give them those moments.

Ok lets get moving again..

Maggot then looks at Kenji, “You honor the words of your leader for you did not draw upon me. You also honor your believes and spoke your true feelings. Live true to that. Not all walls are built of stone. One who proves himself in battle is true. All evil things should be kept far from reach behind strong walls and men of solid constitution.”
Kenji’s features softened ever so slightly at the man’s words; it was true that he didn’t sound like an evil person and he doubted that he was in truth. Who could speak of the sword and what effect it might have on the man; he wasn’t sure and that is what troubled him. That and everyone else’s wiliness to accept this evil thing among them so readily.

Then Lady Althena spoke to all:

Look at it, look carefully, can you not each see for he to even draw it, is to kill himself as intertwined in his body is it. What say you all, can we put this behind us and move forward, for Cor is correct, we are no longer alone in these tests.”

As Kenji pondered all that the Lady said, Cor spoke:

"Well spoken me lady and thank you for the insight as it puts me even more at ease. Still we must all trust each other with our lives or we are to suceed. Yes Master Kenji you have proven yourself and all I ask is that this lad be given the same chance. From now on you and he will walk together behind Ulthock in the hallways between rooms." Turning to Maggot, "And you, I never gave my permission for you to leave. Gather up your things for we have no time for theatrics."

"Now, who will stand and gaze upon the amber light with me?"

Kenji looked from Lady Althena to Cor and then was silent a couple of moments before he spoke without any emotion, “I will stay and fulfill my vow till the end.”

He looked at Maggot and with a faint smile he added, “I will be glad to stand beside you.” Kenji still didn’t like the situation, but he knew that his oath bound him to the cause and if he was right where better to be than beside the possible threat. He secretly hoped he was wrong but he had voiced his concerns and was ready to continue though he would still keep an close eye on Maggot and his evil sword.

“I will stand with you,” Kenji said to Cor and followed any instructions on where to stand and what to do.

(OOC: Ok think we have a compromise Consider the last action in this post is him standing and looking where Cor instructs.)

Halia

She frowned as she stood by the wall of the current room. Her cornflower blue eyes shifted between those around her. When she had cast her spell she had not intended for this to happen, she was simply checking for evil in the room, not in those she was with.

Everyone was discussing what to do about it... she thought of herself and what the sword had done to her, and wondered a moment what was said about her when she was under it's control.

With a sigh she simply stood her ground, gave a slight nod of her head to Maggot and then to Cor.

All settled

"Now that we are all one, big, happy clan let us get to the business of passing this test. Kenji and Rayne you volunteered to stand with me; I would like Maggot to be the fourth. Will ye do so lad?" Cor barely paused for an answer before adding "Now who should stand before each mirror? Tis true we will nae look into them but still might be good to put a bit of thought into which we stand before. I do not mean it as an insult lad but I think perhaps Maggot ought to stand before the black mirror after recent revelations."

I am staying now? Cool

Maggot heard the name, Faraddien and for a moment he did not know who the lady spoke of. His eyes danced around the room looking to see if another was like him, a burden. Then he stopped looked at the ground and whispered to himself, ‘I realize she is talking about me,’ and started gathering his things.

Cor did not waist a moment of oneness that his herd of cats now felt. He manage to lead all in one direction. Maggot had no time and was moving his things to where he was told to stand. Then he started the task of putting on the soft leather vest at the very least before that fun started. With his vest on he puts his sword and other weapons where they should be. One last check, ‘yes, I have everything.’ With one last glance toward Kenji, ‘Right good.’ He points to the cloth tied around his arm. Maggot then pauses and closes his eyes, ‘Give me the strength to prove to these good people they are not wrong in their judgment of me.’ With that he gave a little kick of his right foot and his staff jumped lightly into his hand. All his attention was on that of Cor.

Sirène

As the tumult calmed itself Siréne stepped forward, "In the heat of our disagreements I did not step forward, but let me do so now before we gaze into the light."

"We must look into the mirrors, this was revealed to me by the Lady. True there may be peril, but still it is the mirrors we must look into, not the amber light."

"Make your decisions, but know my words."

Cynil

Cynil was not lover of strife or confrontation, she had stayed out of the argument, but silently she had been rooting for Maggot. So as others sought to restablize the situation, Cynil slipped yo along side of Maggot.

"If you need any sort of help or someone to talk to....I would be happy aid you, or to converse. or just listen."

She miles up and him and then faded back as was her way.

When the new Priestess made her statement as to her Godesses message, she nodded. That was the idea she had gotten from the riddle, but she was not one to say I told you so.

Rayne casts the Bless on the whole group and then casts the two Barkskins= spells she had for the day one on Kenji with his permission and one on herself. If he does not want the spel she will cast it on Cynil.

A cast of the die....

"We must look into the mirrors, this was revealed to me by the Lady. True there may be peril, but still it is the mirrors we must look into, not the amber light." Sirene said to Cor

"Well las, thanks for telling us now before we made a mistake. I hope you Lady speaks true. Now that we have the four volunteers who will stand before each? Maggot I believe may take the dark one but Kenji and Rayne you pick yours and I will take the one left."
Cor instucted them.

Kenji gazed upon the mirrors and thought about his choice. He was not a wise man or intelligent like some of the others, but he had been asked to choose so he silently hoped he would pick the correct one.

"I choose the mirror of White," the Samurai said. If asked he couldnt say why he chose that one.. he just felt it might be the right one. If not they would know soon enough he imagined.

"If everyone will gather close enough I will cast bless. Kenji., with your permission I can use a spell to help protect you I intend to cast one on myself as well. Rayne felt it was necessary to ask the Samurai if he would let her cast a spell on him."
Kenji turned to Rayne and considered for a moment then nodded slightly.

"I do not understand your magic but I have come to trust you Lady Rayne. Proceed."

He would allow the casting of spells upon him and then when they were all ready.. He would move as instructed to stand before the white mirror ready to gaze into it upon Cor's command.

Ok Pick a color, any color and hide that color in your mind.

With the matter of Maggot’s staying or leaving the party settled, it was now a question of choice.

The four volunteers decided it was time to pick who would look at what color mirror. Kenji the first of the four to speak chose the mirror of White, while Cor suggested the mirror of Black for Maggot.

With the Red and Blue Mirrors yet undecided between Cor and Rayne, Cor, being a gentlemanly dwarf waited allowing Rayne to pick first and in doing so found himself left with the color Red. With the mirror’s decided and a few quick spells quickly cast by Rayne in preparation for what could happen, the four moved to take their place before the chosen mirror for each.

As the four volunteers moved before the mirror of their choice each became aware of a feeling of wanting to look and each experienced a different sensation.

For Kenji, now standing in front of the White, felt as if he were at peace, as if there was no need to be afraid. A sweet smell of flowers and with it a soothing warmth spread through him and the Samurai felt as if it were trying to heal him.
For Rayne it was the smell of salt filled air as if from standing along a beach with the waves just starting to come in. A calm feeling of happiness and joy, the worries of a life filled with duty and fighting no longer necessary.
For Cor it was a feeling of burning flesh, the smell of his skin on fire needing to be put out by looking at the mirror whole. Yet this feeling caused him no pain and he took no damage to himself.
Lastly for Maggot his sensation from the mirror before him was that emptiness, a feeling of all hope lost and a life wasted. With this feeling also came the smell as if standing before a decaying dead creature, the scent almost causing him to want to puke.
For all these different smells and feelings the overriding one was the desire to look, just to look.
Standing ready but not yet looking, Cor, Kenji, Maggot, and Rayne were prepared for the worst, hoping for the best.

(DM OOC: Ok post is up so please disregard my Q/A post. Now this is as far as I can go, unless you guys post something crazy, or until you decide to actually LOOK into the Mirrors and not just stand in front of them. A quick thank you to Brianna for giving me her color choice so I could post this evening Next post Next Saturday as its Super Bowl Sunday next week)

time to look

"Ok, Maggot will take the black; Kenji the white, Rayne the blue and that leaves me the red. The rest of you keep a close eye on us and be ready as ya can for anything. Though I doubt that no matter what we do we will be ready for the unknown. If the gazers are ready take your place before your assigned mirror. Do not look into them until I give the word; I will count down from 3 to 1. Look into the mirror on the count of 1. I leave it to you as to whether or not you have weapons drawn or spells ready."

Cor moved to his appointed mirror and counted down "3,2,1" As he spoke the word 1 he looked into the mirror with the words to 'sanctuary' ready in his mind; axe sheathed but ready. He tried his best to force his mind to remain calm and sent a prayer to Odin "Grant us your strength and wisdom that we pass this test and continue on our quest to smite teh evil that seeks to take over this world."

Ready? Oh yeah...

Halia held her breath while the four volunteers stepped before the mirrors. The protection spell still sat on the edge of her tongue and her hands gripped the hilt of her sword until her knuckles turned the color of the bone that lay just under the skin.

Her heart beat in time with Cor’s counting.

3

2

1

Taking a deep breath she kept her eyes on her companions but whispered slightly to the Halfling standing beside her.

“Ready to join your brother?”

I am… she thought to herself and prepared herself to fight and to die if necessary to fulfill her vow.
