Rayne worked with Ulthok, Sirene, and Peri to scour the room around the cages. They found no other clues aside from what the initial search had already found. No traces of any sort of structure, or clothes. Perhaps opening the coffins was really the only way to progress through here?

As they began to stand in the room, voices began to appear. At first, they were just whispers. Rayne did not notice these at first, as the party had been conversing and she was deep in thought. Lother and Cor were the first to notice, followed by the rest of the party immediately after. Then, they began to get louder. And more aggressive.

Lothor, Cor and Sirene were the first to discuss this. Rayne nodded to Cor. "I believe that these souls are separate from the 10 statues and coffins throughout this tower. I will pray to Corellon for their release. No one should spend an eternity trapped in this place. However, we might have to find a way to disrupt the magic in the tower that blocks some of our spells. Perhaps that is what keeps the souls here as well?"

Good call Cor

For the whole party the barrage of voices inside each's head was a rising volume of sound.

Free ussss,Free us nowwww,Free us soonnnn,Free us or be HURTTTT!,Free us or DIEEEE!,
With the voices screaming louder it seemed to him in his head Cor was the first to act.

"I hear the voices as well. They ask, nay demand release. If we bless the bones and set them on holy ground it may allow the spirits to rest. Gather all the bones. Their souls are tortured and need to be released from their torment. Once we have them all I will bless them and consecrate a small area."

Quickly following Cor's suggestion the six other party members gathered all the bones as the Dwarf Knight-Cleric found and cleared a small area. Kneeling on one knee he gave up a prayer to Odin and began what he hoped would be a successful consecration.

Then finally all the bones had been placed upon his consecrated ground and as Cor blessed each of them they slowly began to burn in a blue blaze of flame. The rest of the party each sent a prayer to their god or goddess and hoped the souls would be released. In only moments the old dry bones were ash and one by one the voices faded until there was only silence.

The silence as each soul left was followed by feelings of gratitude and warning, as if the tormented were saying thank you but also to beware. As the last of the souls left, Alyia's spell of detect magic still active, flared to life blinding the party momentarily with it's brightness. As they slowly tried to regain their eyesight they could hear the sound of the stone statues moving.

((DM OOC: Ok my post for this week, on time this time. Keeper good job you get an extra 1,000exp for coming up with the right solution on how to free the Tormented Souls. However by releasing them you awakened their jailers, the 10 stone statues, from a deep sleep causing their magic nature to flare thus causing the detect magic spell to explode with the sudden massive amount of magic no longer dormant. Combat has started and you all are blinded for this first combat rd but will be able to see by the 2nd.))
OH and Lothor is unconscious, blinded, ribs broken, scalped, toothless, dribbling spit out of his mouth and seizing. Oh he also peed his pants,..

Being a quick healer, he wiped away the spittle and shrugged at his damp pants

Temporarily blinded by the burst of magic in the room, Lothor held his grip on his great sword and prepared to assume his usual role of defending the spell casters. As his eyes cleared and he got a better look at the statues he looked at his trusty sword and whispered to it, "Once more into battle. Do your best maul impression this time."

He didn't think slashing would be overly effective on stone, so he would be simply trying to bash as hard as he could. Certainly hill giant strength and a huge hunk of magical metal ought to do something to a statue. As they approached he hoped his friends had something in their bag of tricks, because he really didn't. He hoped freeing the spirits had been worth it. Their reaction made it seem so. Sometimes one got to be a part of good things in this line of work.

As the statues approached he smiled, did freeing spirits qualify as meddling in the past?

Soften Thing Up A Bit.........

Peri:
The voices and their pain subsided as the party prayed. Then a flash flared and the brightness made it difficult to see. That was when Peri heard the sound of the stone statues moving behind then. It had always been easy to cast her spells even in the dark. Setting little surprises on the unwary worked well in the dark. She knew that the statues had been released and were now advancing on the party. The things were hard and would be difficult for Ulthok and the other to defeat so maybe they needed to not be so hard. With that the little Faerie Dragon turned toward the sounds of the moving statues and cast a spell to soften up the statues. She could cast it from five feet in front of her and spread it nearly wall to wall and forty feet through the room. "Those are too hard to cut so that should soften them all, mud is softer than rock." she breathed.
(OOC, Peri cast Transmute Rock to Mud.)

Oh, no they didn't . . .

Aliya's heart is happy for the souls that were released, but as the last echoes of their warning dissipate, she hears stone grind against stone and slowly turns towards the interior of the room. Her eyes widen as she realizes all of the statues are moving, and moving towards her and the party. Moving quickly now, she stands and faces these new foes.
"You. Shall. Not!"
And she casts Stone to Flesh (ooc - I dont know if one casting will cover them all, but if need be she will cast it more to turn them all)
After casting her spell(s), she will draw her vorpal sword and ready her action, holding her sword high, ready to swing at the first to reach her.

Rayne aided the party in gathering the bones as quickly as possible. With how hostile these voices were becoming, time was of the essence. Who knew if these voices were actually capable of carrying out the threats. Though, no attack occurred from the spirits, and the bones were moved into position.

Cor quickly consecrated the ground, and the spirits were freed. Rayne muttered a quick prayer to Corellon for their safe passage to the afterlife, away from this place. Though there seemed to be some sort of relief sensation, another one was there as well: to beware. Rayne eyed the room. So far they had encountered nothing. Would this draw the attention of the cyclops?

Raynes thoughts were cut off by a brilliant flash, blinding her for a moment. She fell to a knee, only seeing white. Was this the end of her archery capabilities? As she regained some of her senses, she heard the statues begin to lumber towards them. Standing up as quickly as she could, she aimed her bow to the best of her ability and fired at the enemies.

Stoneskin

Magic light flared in a blinding blast. She could hear rumbling movement and as vision began to return, the silhouettes of many statues lumbering toward them. Battle was coming.

With a scream the witch summoned arcane and sent it spinning into her own skin, hardening it to stone. They would find no soft prey in her.

((OOC: Casts Stoneskin on herself))

Unable to see, Cor cast Sanctuary on himself. Hopefully his sight would return soon and he could determine his next move.

Brillent.........

Ulthok had been with Cor for a long time now, he'd learned to pay attention to Cor ideas and blessing the bones had just sounded right. He even offered a prayer to what little help it may be.

The Knight's Cleric had guided the party well, the bone glowed blue as the tortured souls were freed. But as there presences faded a blinding brilliant flash filled the room. The strength of the magic exposed from Aliya's detect spell not filled there eyes. As they tried to recover the sound of stone crunching on the floor as some things moved toward them. The statues had to have come to life.

As Ulthok turn to face the coming sound he heard Pier,"Those are too hard to cut so that should soften them all, mud is softer than rock." So smiling to himself he drew his sword of lighting quickness , "Well maybe mud will be a bit easier on my sword than stone."

Then thinking it might be wise to be unseen while he still couldn't see he sent a bit of will into his ring and disappeared.

I Need new players! You all are getting too smart :(

The party blinded for the moment, the voices gone from their minds, but the sound of moving stone filling their ears, knew another battle was before them. As they slowly regained their sight the first of the party to act was also the smallest.

"Those are too hard to cut so that should soften them all, mud is softer than rock." The tiny faerie dragon spoke. Then just as quick she cast her spell of Transmute Stone to Mud covering all ten of the stone statues at once. As she watched the spell do nothing she worried she and her friend Ulthok were in big trouble. However suddenly, as if breaking through a wall, the spell began to work and within less then a second the statues were turned to mud, a large volume of mud. Still semi-blinded the party found themselves alive, unhurt, yet covered in mud from head to toe.

(( DM OOC: Ok that went quick. Good job in this room everyone as the real threat was the Tormented Souls. Nice catch on the nature of the stone statues Ody.

Ok you all got your spells off before the mud hit so I'll remove them from your lists. Aliya's spell of Stone to Flesh came out in the initiative roll after Peri's spell had already started the statues to mud, so had no effect.
Sirene is stone skinned, Cor is protected by a Sanctuary spell, and Ulthok is invisible but very visibly covered in mud as are Lothor, Rayne and Roan. Have fun getting clean lol))

Well, that worked

'Well, that was easier than expected' Lothor thought as he relaxed his grip on his sword and stared around at the mud.

"I think mages should come with a cleaning crew. Ash. Mud. All sorts of stuff." He stared around at the mud that had been stone. "Well, actually, you have been pretty good at cleaning up the dust around here. But before you clean up this mess, give me a moment. I want to look around a bit. Mud is liquidy. If we missed anything and there is anything beneath this room the mud might just tell the story. If it is leaking down anywhere, that is news. I'm going to move slowly around the room and examine this mess. Of course, when I'm done a little cleanup might be nice," he added with a smile. "Someone might want to check out the ceilings and cages again, just in case anything changed now that they aren't holding spirits. Just a thought from your local meat shield."

So saying he began to move down the room. He was focused on the floor and the lower part of the walls that intersected the mud, moving cautiously so as not to disturb the mud before he had inspected it. Were there any signs of liquid slipping through the walls or floor anywhere that might indicate a passage? Even depressions within the mud might indicate something underneath.

When he finished he moved back to the group. "If we can clean this place up it might be nice to look at what was under those mud buddies."

(If the mud gets cleaned up he will search the floor again, paying special attention to the areas under the former statues.)

Am I The maid?

Ulthok smiled as Peri's spell turned the statues to mud, but as the statues transformed the mud splashed over the party. The party stood covered it the remains. Lothor then moved to recheck the room.

"Ok, once you're done come back here and gather with us and I'll try to clear this mud off of us.

(O.O.C., Ulthok will use the cantrip "Clean" to remove the mud from the party members.)

Ick!

The magic that disabled the statues sent a wave of mud to cover them all. Despite the coolness, it stank. They would need to clean the room and themselves before they could search anything.

Waving her wrist, Siréne sent her own fey magic to join Ulthok's in clean their companions and the room of every inch of mud. She shot the halfling a smile and laughed at their mundane use of magic.

Gotta love the mud :)

For the party, almost completely covered in mud, they could not complain for once things had gone their way. Having avoided the bigger threat they had easily taken care of the smaller one.

Lothor did a quick search of the statue's bases and the room once more, finding nothing of any interest but a single silver and wood pipe. The make of the pipe clearly for the smoking of tabacco or some other such substance. Returning to the rest he waited on any cleaning magic to be cast.

Ulthok having gathered the rest and along with Sirene proceeded to try and clean off all the mud from himself and the rest of the party. Though primarily successful with the cleaning cantrips there were still area's on everyone's body that the mud continued to cling, slowly drying. Only a through washing of clothes and bodies would get rid of it all.

With the party as clean as they were going to get they moved into the hallway and back to the center room reaching it almost at once after only a 5 minute walk and a turn in the hallway. Once again back in the room the doors were as they had been since the parties entrance into the tower.

((DM OOC: Ok you are back in the central room once more. As always talk and decide on your next move. Next post Next Sunday))
