Something, must be done

Lothor stood by the door getting more nervous by the second. They were standing around chatting and casting divination type spells as if they had all of the time in the world. But out there in the unbelievable cold somewhere was likely a beholder of bizarre and extreme power, not to mention his personal nightmare, the blinking salamander from hell. Action of some sort was needed. Just standing here waiting for one doom or the other to show up on their door step felt like a terrible idea.

But he was a warrior. This wasn't his stuff. But it was his life on the line and his instincts screaming out for something. "This is it. What we are looking for. We moved in time. We all felt it. You can see the ice. We can't keep waiting. Valene, or someone, move it again, but further. That beholder is out there and I'd bet it is coming. Maybe to the other side of the dial? Further?"

Having voiced his urgency he hoped his instincts would stop screaming at him, but they didn't. Dread still filled him. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a couple of bits of food. They might rot or show some sign of age. The cold would inhibit that, of course, but maybe they'd give some sign. He quickly tossed one piece to the side of the room and the other to the other side of the hall across form the door. He then kept his watch on the hall using the mirror he had placed earlier and gripped his sword.

Where the #@*X@#!! was Allanan?

Once More......

The ice had reformed a little over the devise as if they were not there. The warm area Sirene created for them would once again fill the room and Ulthok stepped to the device as the warmth now again would effect it. Pulling a small blade he careful chipped the ice from the face as the warmer air helped loosen the ice's grip. When the face was clear he reached to the dial. "Once does not tell us enough as to whether this is the device we need to reach home." With that said he moved the dial once more only this time a full turn around the dial back to 15 / 4 position.

Ready in wait

Siréne stood with watchful eyes waiting as the others explored the question of time. Drawing upon centuries of magical study, the moved her gaze along every surface of the room commiting it to memory. If something changed she would know it.

.

Cor once more warmed the clock like device melting the ice so the others could investigate it further. "Do whatever ye are doing but be quick about it. Everyone else spread out and be watchful."

No TIME to lose.

With the majority of the party unsure of what to do, Lothor voiced his concerns.

"This is it. What we are looking for. We moved in time. We all felt it. You can see the ice. We can't keep waiting. Valene, or someone, move it again, but further. That beholder is out there and I'd bet it is coming. Maybe to the other side of the dial? Further?"

Ulthok hearing the note of urgency in the big fighters voice and taking example from Valene acted to gain some understanding of the thinly ice covered clock. Signaling to Cor to hold his magic, the Thief/Mage pulled a small blade from a pocket and carefully chipped the ice from the face, the warmer air helping to loosen the ice's grip. With the face of the clock clear he reached to the dial.

"Once does not tell us enough as to whether this is the device we need to reach home."

Seeing Aliya readying a spell of Identify, he reached out and moved the dial once more this time a full turn around the clock face back to 15 / 4 position. Almost at once the same feeling of magic surrounding the party was felt, however this time Alyia's spell was in full force. At once the female Human Fighter/Mage knew what the clock's purpose was.

As they had suspected the clock was for the speeding up of time where hours were turned into minutes. With the inner numbers designating minutes and the outer numbers, hours it was easy for her to see how time was adjusted. 15 minutes went by as if 4 hours had passed. 30 minutes became the equal as if 6 hours , 45mins the equal of 8. Finally 60 minutes becoming as if 12 hours had passed.

Turning to the rest of the party, with the magic yet surrounding all she told them her discovery.

(DM OOC: Ok short to the point post. I'm assuming that in Aletheia's next in game post she will inform you of her findings. Hope this new information about the clock helps. How you use it is of course up to you but just to be sure everyone understands the concept, only 15 minutes of normal time passes but acts as 4 hours. You the party only lose those 15 minutes but gain 4 hours for such things as relearning spells, charging items, or anything that needs a certain amount of time to do etc,
Next post next Sunday)

Some answers

Aliya satisfied with her findings from the spell she cast, turns to the group and explains what she discovered, finishing with how they could use the time as rest and recharging of spells.
"It will be a useful tool for us right now, but alas, it will not get us home", she tells them. "Let us use this to our advantage and regain some rest and spells, then continue our search."

To rest in the face of a charge

Lothor's instincts said run. Staying in this room felt like sitting at a busy intersection hoping nobody would come by. But after a couple of trials with the clock the mages thought they had it figured out. And, so far, nobody had come by the intersection. If this place gave them a chance to regain spells, the great. Especially that little 'keep me warm' one . . .

As the group prepared to 'nap' and regain spells, the big warrior assumed his usual place by the door. Could something arrive while they were in 'slow time?' Somehow, to his non-magical senses, it didn't seem likely. But he wasn't sure. So he remained vigilant. And he was certainly at the ready when they returned to the normal flow of time.

Use you Time Wisely.....

Ulthok listened as the power of the time piece was revealed.

"Yes, just we have used the spell Nap in the past we should use this thing to quickly regain our spells." Pulling out his spell book. "Reset the the devise stand guard as we reset our magic strength."

So the party prepared.

(I will post in Q&A any changes of spells for Ulthok or Peri.)

Hoping to see more player posts this week

With the majority of the party agreed to use the Time Clock as it was intended to regain spells, Ulthok once more turned the clock. With Cor no longer having a spell of Nap ready, the Halfling Thief/Mage set it at the 8 and 45 mark giving the mages their needed eight hours of rest at the cost of only 45 minutes. Within that time frame the mages and cleric's of the party gathered their spells by study and prayer. With the magic of the clock finished and most of the room yet frozen more, the clock again included, the party was ready to stay or move forward.

((DM OOC: Ok short post once again to get you up to date on spells, food, healing and the such. If your going to cast any long lasting spells on yourselves please let me know in game posts. Ok that's this weeks post and as of Friday Trilogy will be officially 13 years old.))

Continue..........

The odd time piece did its magic and compressed the fleeting seconds. They then used that time to advantage as the magic users studied or prayed to regain or supplement their current array of spells. With proper protections against the cold back in place the party now had more time under those spells protection.

When that was done. "We need to press on now." The Halfling mage once again led the party out of the room and down the hall carefully checking walls floor and ceiling for traps and dangers.

Each member needed to be mindful of what they knew of Cyclopes and Beholders. Magic attacks on a Beholder could be nullified by its our magic and the tentacles each could send death in their own magic forms. Perhaps they may find more rooms with more items that could assist them. As Ulthok moved causiously he seemed to feel that is adventure had been going on for the longest time. What had been only a few years together seemed like at least thirteen.

(Happy 13th anniversary of "The Trilogy War" game.)

At long last

As the group "napped" and renewed spells, Lothor got twitchier and twitchier. Staying in one place in this tower didn't feel right. And now that they were sure that this clock was not enough to get them to their own time, he really wanted to move on. So when he finally heard Ulthok speak up and prepare to lead the squad from the room, he was relieved.

He picked up his mirror he had set in the hall for visibility, gripped his sword, and prepared to move out. As the group moved back into the hall and continued the adventure he almost missed the little room. It had, after all, kept them safe for some hours. He grinned to himself, nowhere was the right place to be when one believed themselves to be hunted by a beholder.

He pondered what he knew about the creatures as he walked. The problem was, none of the descriptions he had ever heard matched this beast or the incredible cold it seemed to have brought.

Rested and ready

Aliya studied her spellbook and then got some much needed sleep for about four hours, feeling so much better afterwards. She checks and cleans her armor and weapons as best she can, preparing for whatever may be in their future. Once done, she will take up a position of guard by the door to await moving on, ready to follow the others into the next area.

Prepared and Onward

Siréne used the gift of time well, restoring spells and allowing a few magical items to regain some of their spent magic. There were surely more deadly trials before them - she would be ready. As the magical time came to an end, Siréne called upon the magic of the Goddess to once again surround them with life-giving warmth. She whispered a prayer of thanks for the primeval magic that kept the abyssal cold at bay.

The others had put the time to good use, and were now packing up gear and making ready to move on. Still there was a weight of reluctance in the air, as if each was loathe to give up this island of respite. And yet, if they did not journey forth soon then death would surely claim them as it had those who had come before them. It was time.

Ulthok piped in leading the group down the hall, "We need to press on now."

To this Siréne nodded. It was time. Still, there was one task left to do. If hers was to keep her companions in a bubble of heat, then she must ensure her own survival. Her death would mean all their deaths.

And so the witch summoned fey magic once again. Speaking a word of power she drew strength from the rocks and stones that surrounding her, pulling the earth's power into her flesh. In but a heartbeat the act was done and she took a step forward in the direction Ulthok had begun to lead them.

((OOC: Casts Control Temp and Stoneskin))

.

Cor thought about the time wheel and the beholders. Perhaps the room might be a good base from which to fight. If they could defend the door with spells and rest they could gain more spells with which to fight. That is if they wanted to fight the beholders. Perhaps it would be better to avoid them. Cor rested and prayed to restore spells then recast the protection spells and rested again.

"Shall we continue our journey?"

Roan nods his heard toward Cor in agreement with progressing on. "Is there anything in this room we may need to take with us?" Looking around to make sure nothing was missed. After looking Roan preps to stand guard for the others while they prepare to move.
