Reposting: The Bracelet Revisited

So yeah, the Facebook AFD joke got me hard, and I pulled this down. Here it is again, if anyone cares to look.

~~~~~~~~~~~
A man sits in the corner, apart from his fellows.
His eyes stare into the past, as he idly plays with the Bracelet.
An offer to drink. He smiles, and shakes his head, giving his thanks.
Then stares into the past once more.
The Bracelet. It was his home. His life. His entire world.
With misty eyes, he peers still into the past.
Why? What had he done to deserve the Bracelet?
What crime was committed to warrant such punishment?
A gift that would both save him and damn him?
Thoughts of painless days, vanished from the present,
Always looked for, never found.
And time passed.
A man sits in the corner, apart from his fellows.
His eyes stare into the past, as he idly plays with the Bracelet.
An offer to drink. He smiles, and shakes his head, giving his thanks.
Then stares into the past once more.
The Bracelet. It was his mind. His heart. His soul.
With regretful eyes, he peers still into the past.
Why? what had he done to deeserve the Bracelet?
What deed had he performed to have earned such a reward?
A gift that would torment, but heal him?
Thoughts of sorrowful days, vanished from the present,
Never looked for, always found.
And time passed.
A man looks at his life with fresh eyes.
He peers into the past,
But his gaze is no longer transfixed,
And he can finally turn his eyes forward.
Happiness
Sadness
Sorrow
Joy
The man looked down at the Bracelet....
......and smiled.
