Subject: Sen's Return

It was some time later that Sen returned to the campsite. In the time between then the stranger had murmured but not woken. Erihsehc kept the fire burning and was in deep thought. He kept looking at the face of the stranger hopelessly trying to remember where he had seen the face. He was desperately in need of a clean and his clothing had seen better days. Still there was something about him. Erihsehc had checked to see if he any items on him that could give any identity. The only real piece of importance was a necklace that had all the grandeur of a man that was once looked upon as a leader or as nobility. Still until he woke he would remain a mystery.

Sen’s return was welcome. The news however was a bit of what he expected and a bit of a surprise. Expected because it confirm that Zenb was expecting his arrival and surprised that it was not only him but they knew of the stranger. The mystery just deepened. The news that Sen had killed Cire was to unexpected. However it proved that she was loyal and dependable. This was not her fight though Arturo did mention they shared the same path. This often puzzled him by what he meant as apart from Arturo no one else had seen his; he now referred to as a friend. Still she did not need to stay but having her there was comforting.

"Sen," Erihsehc whispered "I agree we need to take caution. However I believe Arturo is on our side so if he did see you then I believe he will keep it to himself at least until his brother is released. I appreciate your help so far but will understand if you leave, this is not your fight and I would not want to put you in danger."

Erihsehc stood and checked on the stranger on the floor who was still unconscious. He thought for a moment it was a question he wanted to ask Sen earlier but between the right opportunity and feeling it too impersonal he never got round to it. However with what just happened and if she decided to carry on for the short term he needed to know.

"Sen, I need to ask you something. I respect that you prefer to remain invisible but if you do decide to continue I need to understand what you are. I have never come across someone like you and it has been sometime since I have been able to count upon someone?"

Erihsehc waited for a reply as he looked down on the mysterious stranger.

Subject: An Entagled Warning

Cire was taken by surprise of the materialization of the spider web. Yes he knew spiders existed in these parts of the forest but they tended to stay well hidden in the denser parts of forest and rarely weaved by the track. This though was different for the web was everywhere and his horse soon got caught up in it easily. Cire too was struggling to cut through the web that was stronger and thicker than any web he had encounter before. It did not take long for both man and horse to be firmly entangled and unable to react.

“Do you have anything you would like to say?”

The web was one surprise but the voice coming out of the air now painted a different scenario, one he had been warned about. He could not fight this but he also knew that he would not be allowed to continue. He had failed his mission but it was not the end. His life was expendable he knew that for it was the life he chose. However his boss would find out about Brastion for that was just a matter of time and when he did no amount of web would stop him in his tracks.

“Your foolish if you think you can stop the inevitable.” He laughed

“Its just a matter of time and then...” pausing his laugh getting louder and sinister
“...you will die.”

Subject: In Need of Aid

Erihsehc watched as the stranger stumbled and then collapsed into the campsite.

“Put your dagger away Cire, this man needs help.” Erihsehc could see the face of the stranger more clearly, a face that was familiar but right now could not point to where he had seen this man previously. Even stranger was that Cire seemed to have the same expression towards the stranger and was standoffish towards him. Erihsehc instinct knew that he was no danger to him and therefore prepared to aid in any way he could.

Erihsehc went to the side of the stranger. Exhaustion had overpowered this weakened man so using the little aid he had went about to make him more comfortable. He could only wait for the strange to regain consciousness.

”There is a town just north of here. I will go and seek aid.” Cire gathered his belongings and left. Rather hurriedly.

“Sen, I am sure this stranger brings no harm towards us. I recognise him...but cannot recall where. I need you to follow Cire, I do not trust him, he gave the impression of recognising the stranger as well.” Knowing Sen would be close but unsure where he looked into the air.

“And Sen, be careful.”

Erihsehc stoked up the fire to generate warmth for the lifeless body and would wait until he regained consciousness.

Cire was travelling at speed towards Nyadesdew before taking a side road into a dense forest. Despite the darkness his haste did not lessen if anything increased. He knew where he was going. Yes he was taking a risk not staying with Erihsehc but the news he had would be of more importance to his employer. The man who stumbled into the campsite was being hunted and like Erihsehc did not realise their importance. The description was too close for it not to be the man he had been seeking and now after all these years the last two were in the grasp of his employer who could now complete his work. He was sure he would be rewarded for this and if all went well he could still meet up with the group with aid and carry on his pretence. But first he needed to get the news to its destination. We have him he thought, we have “Brastion” he say gleefully.

Subject: One Last Adventure

Quite frankly I did not like the position I was in. I could flee, I still had contacts and other than my dogs really did not having anything of meaning here. However would the Vizier hunt us down and for how long? I had lived that life thinking it was over and though the twins could probably get away being younger, I would find it very difficult. Plus as soon as we left we would be followed. The other option was to go and have one last adventure. I came over all nostalgic.

“Well I have no plans on fleeing so I guess I am in. So if you will excuse me I have matters to attend to before the banquet. It would be wise if you both showed.”

I left the twins to debate between themselves but not before I tried my hand to the old ways so imagine Farooq surprise when he notices his brothers dagger where my takings were. It will teach him to mess with Javed Shah Sahar.

Subject: A Second Stranger

The fire was dying down leaving only the few remaining embers to give out a small glow of light. Sen had informed Erihsehc that she did not recognise the stranger and even Cire who had been aroused by the late-night appearance of the stranger looked distrustful.

Although the darkness hid the features of the man Erihsehc could see the man had his hand clasped to his sword and ready to strike, which prompted Cire to reach for his dagger.

“Wait, we are only travellers resting for the night after a long journey. I am Erihsehc and this is Cire, we seek no trouble with you good sir. Please state who you are and your business?”

Erihsehc waited for a response while keeping an eye on Cire. Sen was right in not trusting his campfire companion and the sudden arrival of the stranger might hinder whatever plans Cire had for him. Erihsehc unable to communicate with Sen, was sure she would be in place should anything untoward happen and therefore he made the decision not to reach for his own weapon.

Cire got down from his horse tied it up and sat down near the fire rubbing his hands in the process. Erihsehc through the flames of the fire could see him more clearly and noticed the scar on the side of his cheek. It did not go unnoticed.

"I got this little beauty while fightin’ in the Borliean War. Orc caught me off guard. I guess it could be worse, still livin’ aren’t I. Nasty campaign, how we lost I’ll never know." Erihsehc watched as Cire’s eyes looked blankly into the fire. On his travels Erihsehc had heard others talk about the war and the brutality that came with it. He could only imagine the horrors that Cire might have seen.

"So, you headin’ to the sea port of Nyadesdew? I hear that there is plenty of work and money to be made there. I hopin’ to set myself up there make somethin’ of me life instead of travellin’ all the time."

“I am heading that way.” Erihsehc kept his answer short and sweet, his tone reflecting a man of little conversation.

"Well how about that drink?" Cire smiled, opened up the bottle and offered it to Erihsehc.

"Thank you but I have already had ale and..."

"Say no more my good friend, don’t like to cross the grape with the grain myself. A toast then; a new tomorrow and may it bring good fortune for us both." Erihsehc did not say anything but did share in the toast. For a while they both just sat in silence while taking comfort from the warmth of the fire.

"Right it’s been a long day and got a busy day tomorrow so thank you again for the share of the fire. Goodnight friend." Erihsehc nodded and watched as Cire settled down.

He decided to stay lying against the tree so that he could keep an eye on Cire but the tiredness soon caught up with him and once again he drifted off to sleep.

"Ah you are coming around, that’s good. That was a nasty blow you took. Guess you must have a tough old head. Ariel’s gone off to get some water the others have split off in to two groups to pursue the bandits."

The body lying on the floor could not remember what had happened but looking up was a vision of sheer beauty and kindness, “Jade?”

“You remember me then.” She smiled “Just you rest the others will soon be back and I am sure Brastion will have a few choice comments. Why he and Vilerune can not get on for the sake of the group, the two of them test my patience at times.”

“Where am I?”

The voice became distant and vision blurred. Suddenly loud chatter could be heard.

“What do you mean Brastion’s gone?”

“Gone, one minute he was charging down a bandit the next...gone”

A noise suddenly woke Erihsehc. Cire was still sleeping but then the sound came again. It sounded like that of a snapping twig. “Sen” he said softly, “Is that you?”

Subject: Fat Man a Great Thief....Bah!

There I was stood and for all I knew about to meet my death and all I could focus on was the monkey brains. I recalled the time I sat with the Caliph of Zaveh and it only added to my hunger. With my hand rubbing my belly it was three words spoken by Vizier that soon caught my attention, "...Javed Shah Sahar."

The two fools looked at me with quizzical expressions and why would they not. Javed Shah Sahar was a great thief, no the greatest thief, one of myths and legends. However if anyone was going to believe I was the one and same then they are as gullible as the customers I swindle everyday. The sad truth was I was the one and the same but to look at me now, old, fat and bad tempered. But that was a long time ago in a different life and one that brought with it painful memories. I was not about to confirm such diabolic claim and open old wounds, not when I could plea and hopefully get out myself of this mess.

Farooq spoke using the word ‘we’ as if I had already committed to this suicide mission.

"Please, I have only heard rumours of Javed Shah Sahar, you can not possible believe that I am one so great. I am but a humble flea market merchant and not the man you seek for this mission. I only ask that I am allowed to return and as a loyal servant to you and Dagrah, none that I have heard will leave my lips." I bowed slightly not raising my eyes to the vizier until he spoke. It pained me to grovel especially in front of the foolish twins but rather that then being sent on a senseless treasure hunt.

Subject: A Man Named Cire

Cire and Tlek had been following Erihsehc as instructed by Nasur. Soon though one would have to go on ahead and inform of there impending arrival while the other would need to make contact and so ensuring that Erihsehc stayed on track and kept out of harms way. The master would be extremely unhappy should anything go a miss and as both of them wanted to carry on living and get pleasure from the rewards for a successful mission it was enough for both of them to take this seriously.

Coming to a crossroads Cire nods to Tlek and he knew that it was time for the two to go their separate ways. Without saying a word Tlek geed his horse on and took off down a different route. He would not need to pass Erihsehc and it would ensure that he arrived ahead of them so that plans could be put into place. Cire looked ahead. He drew out his short sword and as he was not intending to fight he threw it to the side of the road, but just in case he kept hold of his dagger and a few of his shooting stars.

Just a short distance up the road Erihsehc had being travelling steadily and made good progress since leaving Kint. However it was time to rest and camp down for the night. Finding a suitable spot he had half hoped Sen would have returned with news on his pursuers. Still he also knew that if any danger was imminent then she would give some warning.

He let his horse graze on the grass for a while as he made camp. With the sun going down and a slight breeze on his face he lay resting against a tree and ate some of the food Belnox had provided. He even allowed himself the luxury of some ale and the sensation of being a free man. His eyes closed as the tiredness overcame him however not knowing how long he had been out he senses were awakened by the sound of a horse. He looked up to find a well dressed man bearing an overfriendly smile.

"Greetings friend, I am Cire a traveller. I wish you well and ask if I may share your camp fire. I bring some fine wine as my good intention?"

Erihsehc considered carefully as this was most likely one of his pursuers. The night air was getting chilly and not having heard from Sen, Erihsehc nodded to allow Cire to take a place by the fire.

Subject: Being Tracked

The journey towards Nyadesdew would not be as treacherous as that getting to the Von Vliess estate. There would no muggers trail to deal with as the area they were visiting was well managed by the powerful landowners. The area was ripe which made great farming land and that in turn concealed the under handed dealing that the rich and powerful liked to play out in their sinister lives. It was also an area of the world that was mainly human populated. Yes you would still get traders, visitors from other races but none would settle in the area or indeed were allowed to settle in the area. This would make it easy to blend in, he was just another human trying to make his way and nobody else would take a second glance, not like when he was in Raongreddinn when he had the elite guard to watch out for.

It was mid afternoon and Erihsehc was casually riding trying to figure what he would do when he got to Zenb’s estate. It was then he felt a presence by his side. He should have known it would be Sen but for a briefest of moments a name came in to head, one that he had not heard in a long time; 'Jade’. It was strange as the name was so familiar but no face or remembrance of the person came with it.

Then came the softest and sweetest of voices that spoke into his ear and his thoughts once again turned to Sen. It was eerie that two names came to mind and with either no face to match them. Sen gave caution that he was being followed by two strangers. He did not doubt Sen so he needed to get more information about the two strangers and what better way than having an invisible companion to see what the two were up to.

"Sen," he spoke softly as if in to his horse’s ear "If you can hear me I need to know more about the men that are following. Are they carrying any weapons? Have they spoken about why they are following me?" Erihsehc left it that that, he did not want to exploit his new companion but any information would at least be to his advantage in the long term. He would need to rest soon, well his horse anyway but until he heard from Sen again he would carrying on travelling.

I walked behind the twins as the brainless guards ushered us in to the heart of the palace. Part of me was still praying that we would not actually face the Vizier himself and that this was too insignificant of his time. That hope soon faded when I spotted the Viziers loyal guards. This was not the first time I had been in front of a Vizier, well no this particular Vizier. The first time was in another lifetime, one long ago when I was young and foolish. I guess a bit like the two fools in front of me. Still I survived that particular day which changed my life to the one I had up to today.

Now I just stood in the Viziers of Dagrah main chamber looking at a man eating monkey brains who determined whether or not I had a life tomorrow. My belly rumbled.

It was not until the Viziers palace that I was finally released. Cursing the guards under my breath I got to my feet and began to dust myself down. The twins were a step in front of me one standing nonchalantly the other scouting the inside of the palace.

I had no plans for a swift escape as it is times like these my size is a small hindrance. I would wait for the Vizier, if indeed he came personally, and grovel if needs must. How, indeed why was I put in the same company of these two thieves beat the hell out of me.

What was even more frightening was even if I was released with nothing more than a ticking off the wife would no doubt want blood from yours truly. No doubt someone has already informed her of my current whereabouts and though she knew her place, therefore a rescue was out of the question she would be brooding and cursing my name. Indeed, I will be in for it when I get home. I could forget being feed, that will go the dogs, forget a comfortable nights sleep, it would be the floor and as for pleasure...well that been off the cards for years so no change there at least, if anything it would be more of a punishment by receiving some!

No I shall just have to come to that particular bridge when it happens. First of all I had to get out of here and standing next to these felons did not look a healthy position to be in. Pray Allah may the Vizier be merciful.

Subject: The Dragging of a Fat Man!

My mother always said I was dropped on my head at birth and ever since managed to brush off any blow that struck, as my mother would say, ‘thick head’. This was no exception.

The blow came as a bit of a surprise and as I sat trying to gain my composure, I heard comments aimed at the brothers. Justice it seems was about to prevail as the Vizier wanted to see the no good scoundrels and hopefully string them up by the neck. I could throw in my misfortune for good measure maybe get some compensation out of the situation.

This of course would be a sight to see and see I would get at first hand as it was no only the twins that were being marched to the Vizier. I too was well not so much being marched but dragged. One minute I was sitting blessing the good fortunate the next two hefty oafs grabbed each of my legs and started dragging me through the dirty and dusty streets of Dagrah.

Yes I could have wailed and yes it was damn right humiliating for a man of my stature but I was not going to argue with the issue. The guards could have be easily overcome but to double cross the Vizier would be foolish, I knew this all too well. Unlike the arrogant twins I had family to protect. So as I was being dragged I started to think why the Vizier would want me. Did I not give a good deal to his brother not so long ago surely that would put me in good graces, then again he thought he was getting a good deal, I knew differently!

On the way back to the stables Erihsehc thoughts turned to Sen. He did not known much about other races especially the unusual so was unsure what to make of his companion. Then there was the bag of gems. He would leave them for her when he got to the stables so that she could investigate however he had no idea what she would make of them. He could only concluded that she would know what the gems were for and how best make use of them.

Being deep in thought he was unaware that he was being followed by the two strangers he had seen talking to the dwarf, Nasur. At he stables the young boy attending his horse was sitting and talking to his ride. "I always talk to them, keeps them calm." The boy got up and with a final pat said his goodbyes to his horse. "Take care of him mister; you got a good one there. He might be old but he’s strong. Full of heart." The boy left.

Erihsehc reached for the bag of gems and placed them so that Sen could pick them up. For the moment he could only assume that she was nearby and heard what Belnox said. He then looked at the map supplied. Zenb has a vast estate north of the city of Nyadesdew a large trading port on the east coast. He knew the area but never been to the port city. Still he did not need to visit the city so could either travel through or travel around. It would be a two day journey. Closing the stable door he took the clothes, trousers, and shirt and changed, discarding his old clothing.

He was now ready to leave so mounting his horse he set off unaware that he was being followed and not only by his invisible companion but by two strangers.

"Now then my young fellow, Arturo informs me it is an old enemy of the family that has my dearest brother captive. Poor Bernartro, I love him dearly but he will never learn and always get himself into mischief. Still he would normally get himself out of it but if Arturo has got involved then their must be more to the situation that he is letting me know. Still I am surprised Zenb has my brother and more surprised Arturo has not dealt with this himself. Still if he believes you are more than capable of rescuing Bernartro, who I am to argue."Belnox spoke with a calm dulcet tone his eyes though seemed distant.

"Right then I have a map detailing Zenb’s whereabouts plus information of what you may find when you get there. Any supplies you need then please take what you need for your journey. Arturo will settle the account so help yourself. Now I just need to got in to the back as I have a package also" Belnox gave a nod of his head and left the room, leaving Erihsehc to looked around. In all honesty there was not really much he needed. He picked up some food rations and a water pouch. Then he spotted some clothing and rifling though picked out some adventurers clothes that were in much better shape than his current attire.

He put the items on the counter so that Belnox could tally up the amount and waited for his return. He looked out of the shop window and spotted two men talking to the dwarf and from the glances towards the store he could only assume that his presence was not going unnoticed.

Belnox reappeared carrying a small bag. "Now then, I have to admit that I am a little perplexed as you look like you are travelling alone yet this bag is not for you. Arturo specifically instructed that it was for the young girl that was with you. Anyway I guess there is no harm handing it over, he did say that it would aid you in you days ahead and I for one would not question my brother’s motives, so here you are." Belnox handed over the bag. "Are you sure this is all you require I am sure I can rustle up some better food. I have some fresher meat and the wife makes some tasteful biscuits. I will be just a moment and then if you have any question I will more than happen to answer them if I can." Belnox disappeared once again.

Erihsehc took a peek into the bag. He was never one for possessions but the bag was full of assorted gems. Different sizes and colours and though he was no expert he was sure there was a tidy sum of money that could be made from these. Still they were not for him. They were meant for Sen but what did Arturo know about his companion. Should he be concerned? He closed the bag and put it into his pocket.

Belnox came back carrying a bag. "Right I have put into some good meat, cheese, bread, bisciuts and even some ale for your journey. Now is there anything else you require, any questions?"

Erihsehc nodded as he collected his new belongings. "Thank you for the food and clothing."

"Then fair well and bring back my brother, I miss him." Erihsehc saw the sadness behind Belnox’s eyes and mustering a smile he nodded his departure.

Outside the two men and the dwarf watched his every move as he made his way back to the stables.

I knew those brothers would be trouble ever since they came to Dagrah. You can not trust twins there is just something unnatural about twins but still I did not think they would have had the nerve to try it on with me.

Now punishment, what punishment would best suit this rogue. I could crush his skull with my hand, no not painful enough, snap his neck, no far too quick. I know I will feed him to my dogs. Yes that sounded satisfying it would be very painful and not too quick.

The audacity of the man he was actually approaching me with his fake over friendly smile. "Aban Faheen," I finally bellowed not able to hold in my fury any longer "I am going to feed you to my dogs." Sweat was now dripping down my forehead and with my large mass making the earth quake I brandished the dagger. I could have cut him down too size there and then but for gathering crowd of onlookers. "You dare..."

The rest was a blank. All I know was that I was on the dusty ground the sun beating down on my face and when I got my focus back, peering down was the nauseating face of Aban Faheen.

The morning brought about fresh and crisp start to the day. The air smelt clean and the previous night’s rain gave way to a morning sky which was already a rich blue. Erihsehc readied his horse and as he left the stable he glanced down and with a warm feeling read the message Sen had left in the dirt.

The town Arturo wanted him to visit, Kint took just over two hours to reach. He had never visited the town previously so was apprehensive of going into the place. Strange people and places made him feel uneasy but the contact Arturo gave was reliable, well by name at least. Belnox was another of the Von Vliess clan, third eldest if he remembered right.

His establishment was not hard to find as a big Belnox Mart sign hung colourfully outside the store. Before he entered he ensured his horse was stabled the young boy seemingly very please with the payment Erihsehc handed over and reassuring him that his horse would be well cared for until he returned. As he left the boy was already brushing his horse down as it drank from a bucket of water he had provided.

Looking around it was your typical smallish town. Few inns, stores, weaponsmith, it was not too busy. The people were mainly human though he did notice a dwarf looking at him rather oddly. He just put it down to the fact he still carried his warhammer though he never saw the dwarves eyes actually look at the weapon he just seemed to look Erihsehc in the eye until he passed. The dwarf scratching his beard and mistrust in his eye, grunted and walked away.

"Oh do not mind Nasur he dislikes everyone." Erihsehc turned to were the voice came from and stood in front of him was Belnox von Vliess.

"You must be Erihsehc, Arturo said you would be passing by today. It is a pleasure to meet you; I am Belnox younger brother of Bernartro. I hope Arturo was pleasant to you I know he can be a little mysterious but he is harmless....I think! Anyway please come inside we have much to sort out before you leave." With that Belnox chortling to himself disappeared inside. Erihsehc looked around and wondered if Sen was nearby and whether she enters buildings or just stays outside. Wherever she was at least there was a pair of eyes watching his back and with that thought followed Belnox into his store.

What Erihsehc did not see was Nasur watching his every move before speaking to two very suspicious looking characters and pointing towards Belnox’s store.

The moonlight from the weapon faded as it moved down towards the dirt. With a smooth graceful movement the tip of the blade began to etch into the dirt. From where he stood Erihsehc could not make out what was being written so he waited for it to finish. When it did he witnessed the slow and peaceful disappearance of the weapon.

He put away his dagger and moved over towards the writing. With the moonlight shining down he read the words that had been so elegantly scored. He allowed himself a smile and for the first time in a long while he did not feel so much alone anymore. Sen he thought, she must be the one Arturo was on about by the window, his so called accomplice. It now made sense that he did not see anything when he looked out but how did Von Vliess know?

He looked out from the entrance of the stable and then glanced the night sky. She was there somewhere and it made him feel more at ease. She was the one who saved his from the hound and it would not surprise him if she had a hand in stopping his horse from running during his fight earlier in the day and now....well he did not want to think about the event after the nightmare instead he just knelt down and with his finger he wrote his name in the dirt followed by a thank you.

Whatever her reasons for staying hidden were he accepted as in time maybe they would meet and he would see the person who was looking over him. Until then he still had a quest to do. His horse was still resting and being too early to set off he settled down but this time he was not afraid to sleep. With the word Sen in his mind he drifted off once again. The morning will bring about a new day and fresh importance to solve his tormented and problematic life.

As Vanadia puts it most Euro countries has good beer, let me add that most Euro countries have fantastic beer (Central Europe), great vodka (Northern European), delightful wine (Southern Europe), so wherever you end up the drink will just be great.

Now with you gone for a while time to catch you up on posts...only 5000+ behind, it’s achievable!!!

Have a top trip

With a vacant look upon his face, Erihsehc allowed his dagger to tease the veins in his right wrist. He did this often and many a time he scratched the flesh deeper than anticipated but never enough to cause serious harm. Still the thought was there and as long as the nightmares continued the closer he would come to ending it. It would not be tonight though.

A light dazzled his eyes and it brought him out of his daze. Putting his hand to cover the intensity of the glare he thought he heard something but did not quite catch it. It was not the moon that shone in his eyes but something far more unnatural. He got to his feet and waited for his eyes to adjust.

"Who’s there?" he called, holding his dagger though he felt this was not an attack. As he waited for a reply he was surprised to see in mid air a weapon, silver which he had witnessed the previous night after his battle with the hound. Coincidence no, for the first time he felt...no he knew he was being followed!

The day had gone well too well.

The morning had seen once particular buyer, foreign looking fair skinned and far too thin the very type I loathed and loved to swindle take an interest in one of my Persian rugs. It was an ugly looking thing that had surely been put together by a colour-blind one-handed imbecile. Quite how I ended up with such a monstrosity was hard to remember but a heavy drinking session would have certainly played its part. This foreigner had however taken a fancy to the rug and being able to read such gullible but wealthy people I was not only able to sell the rug but at three times its worth. After that I allowed myself a smug smile, I knew it would be a good day.

If only everyday was like today then I could feast like a sultan but often or not us merchants were at the mercy of thieves. Now I was very careful when it came to money and although I was a generous size that put many a thief taking from me, I was still a merchant and still a target. My lucrative day though had interfered with my concentration, as I never ever left my money unattended and it was to my horror when I discovered my profitable days takings had gone.

Now I would be lying if I were the type of man you could control his rage and this particular episode was more due to my stupidity than being robbed. A fellow merchant and competitor who had picked up on my misfortune had a smug grin on his face that I was about to pummel had I not noticed the dagger. The dinar dropped, I knew the owner of the dagger and was it a coincidence that the day my takings are taken a dagger is left behind by a thief I knew well.

Yes the day had gone well too well and looking around the market I spotted the thief I wanted and surprise, surprise his brother also. I spat out the excess flem that had built up during my anger, adjusted my mid drift bulk and not taking my eye of the pair made my way thinking only how best to punish the poor sap.

"ARIEL...EAMONN..." the dwarf stands alone in the dark tunnel his eyesight only taking in the few flickers of light. It was the screams that made him freeze to the spot. His companions vanished and no understanding to what had just happened. Trembling he just stands there as water begins to run from his eyes. Still the screams come piercing the damp air and laughter, sinister laughter bouncing of the tunnel walls. Water starts to rise and soon his boots are covered and still the dwarf does not move, then suddenly...

"NOOOOOO..." Erihsehc screams and wakes from his nightmare. His body is covered in sweat and in his mind the remnants of the last image of his nightmare that of a hand coming out of the darkness of the tunnel.

It was not the worse nightmare Erihsehc had had and though it had been a few nights with out having one he should have half expected it coming tonight. Still is was never pleasant and trying to understand the meaning was bewildering. The one thing this nightmare had in common with all the others was that it felt real, so very real as if this was the dream and the nightmare the reality.

The perspiring body of Erihsehc sits alone in the dark. Playing with his dagger part of him wants to end this once and for all. Every nightmare brings him closer, as every nightmare a part of him gives up.

The atmosphere in the room was very tense, well to Erihsehc anyway. The figure just stood there, motionless, soundless and slightly intimidating.

"Ah, it seems your friend has decided to wait outside. No matter my business is with you though you both share the same path." The figure moved forwards into the light caste by the moon. It revealed a middle-aged gentleman with a steely look in his eyes who by his dark attire was very affluent. He stood in front of Erihsehc, a walking cane by his side and lying at the foot of the bed not noticed before a panther, black, large and eyes of deepest yellow glaring right at him.

"Do not mind Lebreknit, she will not attack as long as you stay calm and listen to what I have to say. Now please make yourself comfortable and I shall begin." He pointed towards a chair to which Erihsehc moved over to and sat.

"My name is Arturo Von Vliess and no before you interrupt I am not the Von Vliess you are seeking. That would be my older brother Bernartro whom this home belongs to and whom is missing. My brother is dear too me as are my other five brothers and we look out for each other which is why I am in need of someone to track down the person who has my brother and to bring him back to me. I know you are looking for him but I can reassure you my friend he has no answers to your quest, he is a simple jewellery trader who stupidly got involved with....well issues not of his affair, lets say."

"What do you know of my quest and if Bernartro can not help me then why should I help you?"

"Fair point, fair point. What I can say Erihsehc is that I have information that can help with that tormented mind of yours. Though Lennier may have some information that can help you I know the name you are seeking and I also can help you seek VileRune, Ariel, Eamonn and the others. Plus you and your friend will be rewarded with the usual gold and jewels whatever really takes your fancy. My brother has quite a collection that I am sure he will no doubt lavish you with upon his freedom. Now do we have agreement, Bernartro’s safe return for a name?"

Erihsehc was left shocked with what he heard, how did he know about his mind, the names he mentioned he has never spoke to anyone before about. Rage was building up but he knew threatening his man would be futile. There was power in this man a lot of power. "What can you tell me about your brother’s disappearance?"

"Good I am glad. I am not sure what the beggar told you in the alleyway but my brother got caught up in some work Lennier Greycloud was working on. This work by accident created something far greater than it intended to be. I shall not bore you with the details but the information got out to a man by the name of Zenb, an opponent of mine. I can give you information any wares you may need and names of people who may be able to help you on your way."

The gentleman then carried on explaining the details. When he was done he put on his hat and with his panther walking his side started to leave. "Wait, you mentioned an accomplice?" Erihsehc questioned

"Why the girl at the window, is she not with you?" With that he turned and left.

Erihsehc looked out the window but sore nothing just the darkness. He stayed in the room for a while thinking about his encounter. It was time to rest for the night so he made his way out to stable his horse. In the morning he would need to visit a town ten miles from the house where he could gather supplies for his quest. In the stable he sat with his horse deciding to stay the night there than Arturo suggestion of the house. As he started to drift into unconsciousness his mind wandered not about the quest but the mysterious girl Arturo spoke of.

Oh go on then...I rarely venture out of Free Form or post much but I do like the sound of Subway.

I doubt you will have trouble recruiting whatever story you decide but I do love a good post-apocalyptic story and even if I do not join it is one I would follow and read with interest.

The weather had turned for the worse as darkened clouds gathered above followed by pelting rain. Erihsehc was use to the elements but found shelter at an inn in a nearby village. The locals were friendly enough and even though it was getting late once he had a brief rest and gathered his thoughts after an eventful and stressful day he moved on. On his way out he asked the stable boy he knew the location of the home of Von Vliess. The boy looked at him with a vague expression on his face ”Just follow the road east of here, you will not miss it.”

The rain had since ceased and the clouds were starting to break up giving way to brief glimpses of the moon. Travelling at a relaxed pace the stable boy was right; the home of Von Vliess would have been hard to miss. It was quiet grand for these parts and very much deserted. It was not a sight Erihsehc had envisaged half expecting a brightly lit up colourful abode instead he got an overgrown dark and miserable looking dwelling. It seemed nobody was home but as he had come all this way and no other leads for his quest he decided to take a look around. As he sauntered down the path leading up to the home he looked at it in more detail. It was a two floor building, a large entrance was in the middle and the front was symmetrical and he estimated at least twenty or so rooms on each floor. Tying up his horse and gathering his weapons he moved towards the entrance.

The front door was already ajar. Slowly Erihsehc pushed it open. He allowed his eyes to adjust to the darkness before moving in. Standing in the entrance he noticed a wide staircase directly in front of him and four doors leading of the room. Two on the left of which one was open and two on the right. The stairs themselves led directly up with no turns. A large stained glass window dominated the second floor and offered some light to the room when the moon shone in. He stepped in into the silence pausing while he chose which route to take. It was then he heard a noise. It came from above so taking hold of his warhammer he moved towards the foot of the staircase listening. Nothing came. He was sure if came from a room on the left side of the staircase and though visibility was poor he ascended keeping his ears tuned for any further sound.

At the top he could make out the wonderful stain glass window in its glory which pictured a knight slaying a red dragon. From what he could make out the corridor was straight down with doors on the left though he could not make out any on the right. Moving quietly he came to the first door he took hold the handle he was about to open when he heard what sounded like footsteps coming from the next room. Abandoning the door he moved to the next room pressed his ear to the door and listened. Nothing came. He slowly turned the handle and opened the door. He caught site of his reflection in a mirror on the wall and used it to see the rest of the room. He could not see any movement but upon entering standing by a large bed was a dark figure. He could not make it out nor did it move, it just stood there looking at him.

”I have been waiting for you Erihsehc, though I thought you would come alone. No matter we shall await your accomplice before we deal with the matters in hand”

“What accomplice, I came alone, who are you?”

The dark figure reassuringly spoke ”All in good time, all in good time”.

The two of them just stood there Erihsehc unsure what to do or what was going on. Accomplice he thought what accomplice?

The burly man made his plunge towards Erihsehc his dagger narrowly missing his torso. Straight away Erihsehc was on the defensive as the man franticly cut through the air from side to side one swipe slicing through Erihsehc arm clothing though missing the flesh.

Erihsehc was waiting for the right moment, he only needed one strike and it would be over as his years of training the one weapon his skills was finally tuned with was the dagger and no matter how big his opponent might be Erihsehc was always confident in winning a duel with his weapon of choice.

He could tell his opponent was getting agitated due to the lack on contact and fight from Erihsehc. Not taking his eye of the man his assault was starting to weaken as the combination of the sun on his back and his hot-headed start would soon become his downfall. It was never a pleasant moment to take a life but at times in the world in order to survive you had to simple as that. Using his mind’s eye to visualise his move he focused and struck. His dagger punctured and twisted straight through the burly man’s throat and the desired effect was instantaneous. Blood showered Erihsehc as he stepped back to witness the shocked expression of the burly man gurgling as he collapsed to the floor. What life was in the man soon ebbed away and all that was left was just another corpse lying in a pool on their own blood. Bending down to pull out the dagger Erihsehc heard noises coming from the woods. Not being wise to hang around he quickly grabbing his warhammer and turned to his horse. The ordeal had not scared the horse away as it calmly grazed on the side of the road. Hastily mounting his horse he gave a firm kick and the horse responded by a sudden swift of speed. Now at a gallop it was enough as glancing around he saw four figures come scurrying out of the forest. They did not follow but shouts of death did. He turned to face the road and did not look back; he only hoped that the horses gallop would be reliable for a good period and away from any pursuers.

They did not stop again until they were off the trail and then he covered his tracks just in case. A stream gave time for a momentary rest, clean and refreshments for both man and horse. He sat by the tree watching his horse drink from the stream and giving a quiet thanks that it did not run during the fight. That saved him for sure and for the first time he looked not just at the horse but a four-legged travel companion. He got to his feet and started to stroke the mane, "Come on boy, we still have a way to go before we get to this Von Vliess." It was then as Erihsehc looked up he swore he saw something watching him. It was a split second vision but he was sure that something beyond the trees was looking down on him. With no time to investigate Erihsehc and his travel companion set off again and trouble-free they could be at the home of Von Vliess by nightfall.
