Mi-Kyeong saw the knife Dancer was going to use. Sharp, so the cut would be clean, and she guessed that was the bright side. It would, however, hurt, but at least it would get the damned things out of her arm. She braced for the coming pain, and winced as the knife did its intended job. She felt intense relief as the fingernails came out, and she figured she would be fine while the wound healed.

Hearing Dancer's instructions, Mi-Kyeong took up a position complementary to Colton's and watched the area. Nothing was happening, as far as she could see.

Mi-Kyeong was nearly deafened from all the gunfire, but once the proverbial smoke had cleared, she noticed that there were no more moving bodies, save for herself, Jackson, Colton and Dancer, the latter three of which showed no new injuries. They had made short work of their targets, while Mi-Kyeong had struggled with a mere six.

Undaunted, Mi-Kyeong plucked the bowie knife given to her from the head of it's victim, retrieved her handgun, and relocated her pipe. She spared a moment to glance up from her tasks and saw Jackson with a backpack, and was instantly relieved.

Hearing his question as he arrived, Mi-Kyeong quipped

"Only about five seconds of gunfire. Everything left is dead. Or, perhaps I should say, not moving."

Mi-Kyeong accepted the backpack from Jackson and stowed more efficiently her computer, along with all its bells and whistles, slung it over her back, and used the bowie knife to cut off the front flap, as well as the zipper. Now, she had a perfectly usable, quick-access bag she could keep extras in, and the backpack was almost as if it was made for her and held her computer perfectly, with built in padding. Short of a concussive explosion or something clawing the bag open and spilling its contents, her computer was safe.

Mi-Kyeong proceeded to sheath the knife and holster the gun, then tucked the pipe into an un-intrusive spot in her belt.

Mi-Kyeong glanced down at her leg, having felt something sticking her pants to her calf, and saw blood. Pulling her pant leg up, she was relieved to see she had only toothmarks that failed to break skin. The blood was not hers. There was still, however, the matter of the fingernails embedded in her arm.

She approached Dancer and asked, "I don't suppose we have a doctor in this group?" She showed Dancer her arm, and pointed out the protruding fingernails.

Subject: A torrent of new items...

Mi-Kyeong saw the bowie knife coming in on a predictable trajectory, and caught it by the sheath, so as to avoid it coming unsheathed and making noise. The grisly scene in the next room had to have been caused by something, and alerting it just seemed like a very bad idea.

Accepting the disk from Dancer, Mi-Kyeong spoke in a hushed tone "I can't work on this until we get to a safe place. I need sophisticated programs to compensate for the degradation on this. It's scratched to hell, but the label side is fine, so I won't need anything on the hardware end, but I need a fairly safe workplace, because it will take a while. I could use a trip to your safehouse, assuming it's still safe, once we find this person."

Mi-Kyeong hoped they would accept that, as she retrieved her pipe, cleaned it off, and relocated the gun to a more accessible position. She hooked the knife sheath and handgun holster to her belt on opposite sides, and hefted her pipe. She was better ad melee than ranged combat, anyway. Upon closer examination, Mi-Kyeong noticed three full clips in her bag, as well as one in the gun, which she chambered before she re-holstered it. She then proceeded to move the clips to more accessible locations as well, on the opposite hip from the handgun.

Walking into the next room behind Colton and Dancer, Mi-Kyeong turned to Jackson.

"Maybe you should take rear guard. Make sure nothing sneaks up behind us."

She paused for a split second before remembering the reason she had made that second call, then turned ahead and continued while she walked, addressing no one in particular.

"I could also use a backpack for my computer, as well as some padding if we can find either. It's no good to me broken, but more importantly, I work faster in Korean, and you don't have six hours to waste waiting for me to reconfigure another one, and load my programs onto it."

Mi-Kyeong was snapped back to the moment. She saw several of the bodies start to try to move. The limbless thrashed about like fish, their heads turning to try to gain purchase on the concrete floor, seeking unwary legs. The eviscerated crawled with their arms, seeking more adeptly the same. Those with no legs struggled almost comically to their knees, using their faces as a sort of third leg, and evoking images of some colorful jokes Mi-Kyeong had heard, which she finally understood at this very inopportune moment. Mi-Kyeong started laughing, but realized what was happening quickly enough to stifle it to a mere chuckle.

Mi-Kyeong decided to steer clear of the less able corpses, and watched carefully for those crawling with their arms. Some of them had apparently been working out shortly before dying, as they seemed to be alarmingly fast, bounding forward with the practiced muscles of a weightlifter. Sticking her pipe in her belt, Mi-Kyeong drew the pistol given to her by Dancer, and remembered her practice session.

The current situation seemed to be like a macabre graduation of sorts to the next stage of Mi-Kyeong's learning to shoot. She took aim at the closest one to her. It couldn't have been more than one or two meters. She squeezed off a round, which hit just enough of its head to drop it, but not the square-on result for which she had hoped. She aimed at the next closest, which she realized had gotten about a meter from Colton's leg. She had to fire quickly, as its arm was reaching, about to gain purchase on his trousers, distracting him from his current objective.

Mi-Kyeong loosed another round, this time into the thing's arm, deflecting it away, and giving her a few seconds to concentrate on its head. She squeezed another round into it, hitting it this time just below the crown of its head, and the cap of its skull came off, along with a substantial portion of its brain. Its head looked almost like a grisly ice cream bowl.

"S*#$!" Mi-Kyeong shouted. While she was trying to save Colton's leg, her own had been grabbed, and she had to move quickly before the thing's teeth hit a major artery. Mi-Kyeong timed the pull of her leg to coincide with the bastard's mouth, and it caught only pants.

Mi-Kyeong took the opportunity to drop to one knee, and crushed the bastard's head. Now, she realized, she was in trouble. One without arms had gotten to her while she was distracted with the previous two. It fell on top of her, and she had to get it off quickly. She had, however, no time to holster the gun, and switch weapons, as two more which seemed more or less intact were also headed for her.

Mi-Kyeong took a mental note of where she put the gun down, and took a firm grip on the bastard's crown and chin before spinning its head around to lean its chin on its spine.

Throwing off the body, Mi-Kyeong kipped to a crouch and drew the bowie knife, the pipe having slid out of her belt during her fall to the ground. She intercepted the first of the intact corpses, hitting it squarely in the chin with a powerful round kick, snapping its neck, but opened herself to the one behind it with her recovery.

The one still coming for her lunged for her throat. Mi-Kyeong stepped back on one foot and allowed one hand to find purchase on her arm. She proceeded to pull that arm toward her, until she was within reach of the head, and drove the bowie knife through the soft flesh at the base of its jaw. The corpse dropped like a sack, but Mi-Kyeong felt a searing pain in her arm as the bastard went down; it had dug three of its nails into her arm as the knife entered its brain, causing every muscle in its body to clench, which served to bring the reaction about.

Mi-Kyeong had never been in that kind of agony before, and let loose a scream of pain. Looking at her forearm, she noticed that two of the nails had embedded deeply, and were ripped from the corpse's fingers at the nail bed, and stuck out less than a centimeter. She would need disinfectant and a bandage before long, or it would fester badly.

This had not been Mi-Kyeong's best day.

Subject: Target Practice

Mi-Kyeong hefted the gun in her right hand. The weight was less than she thought, on first glance, but still oddly reassuring. She took care to heed Dancer's instructions regarding the gap in the slide, and holding it two-handed.

She took aim, and closed her left eye, lined up the shot, and a flash came to her mind of the dream from which she had just awoken. She saw Ji-Soo with the bastard biting her carotid, and Mi-Kyeong's blood ran cold. She aimed as carefully as she could and squeezed off a shot at its forehead, but with her left eye closed, the shot instead buried in the wall to the left of its head.

Wondering what she did wrong, she tried with both eyes open, took aim once more, this time at its chest, trying for a bigger target, a higher margin of error. She hit it in the ribcage about three inches from the heart. Not a kill shot, but improvement over hitting the wall.

She popped the clip out to check it. It still had a fair amount of ammo, with one in the chamber. She decided inwardly that she would exhaust the clip, then quit once she ran out. No need to waste more on one that was clearly not getting up any time soon.

She aimed again for the forehead, noting that she shot better with both eyes open. This time the thing's head exploded, and sprayed the wall with brain matter and bone fragments, giving her an almost sadistic feeling of glee. She proceeded to empty the rest of her clip into vital points she had been shown while learning Taekwondo. She hit the sternum several times, as well as the shoulders and knees before the clip ran out.

After her little practice session, Mi-Kyeong's arms throbbed, and she decided it would be best to hit the head all the time. Otherwise, this would take its toll on her arms, and she couldn't afford to be caught out of ammo and exhausted again.

Mi-Kyeong decided to try sleeping again, this time conjuring to her mind images of home, and the good times, hoping to avoid reliving Ji-Soo's death. She had seen it twice, which was twice too many, as far as she was concerned. She already had to explain this to Ji-Soo's family, and didn't think they would even believe her.

"I'm sorry, but zombies ate your daughter, and she might be one now?" It sounded like something out of a bad horror movie. Anyway, images of home came flooding back, and Mi-Kyeong drifted off again. This time, no nightmares.

Mi-Kyeong was somewhat relieved. She had half-expeted these men to judge her as helpless by her exhausted hysteria. It seemed that this wasn't the case. They didn't have a problem letting her stand on her own, and that was a good sign. She decided to let the apparent face for the group know just where her skills lie, however.

"I don't mean to sound like a-How do you put it? Slang was never my strong suit-donkey, either, but I need you to teach me how to handle that effectively. Civilians in South Korea are not allowed to own guns, let alone shoot them."

Their Korean pronunciation could use a bit of work, too, so, the least she could do was help out there. She was careful not to sound condescending. At least this man had tried to pronounce her name right, unlike the constant stream of foreign tourists she had found on vacation in Japan, mangling horribly their language.

"It's Mi-Kyeong. " She emphasized the vowel "yeo". In her experience, it was a common foreigner's problem. She didn't fault Dancer for it. Most non-Koreans could not readily tell the difference between the vowels "ya," "yeo," and "yo". She demonstrated the subtle inflection differences until she saw a gleam of comprehension in Dancer's eyes, and was delighted the man was such a quick study.

Maybe she could teach him the use of a tunneler, in case they had to run a team hack. Anyways, better that she preemptively smooth any potentially ruffled feathers now.

"Don't worry. I'm not offended, but if we're going to work together, you might as well know how to say my name."

Mi-Kyeong took a brief moment to compose herself before she responded. "Thanks for the assist. You saved my ass back there. I thought I was going to die."

Festivals. Kozakura has so many, but all are a spectacle to behold. This particular festival takes place at the Sun Temple, not far from Ito-Jo, the ghost castle. Ito-Jo was the site of a great battle between the an army comprised of the Sohei of Nanbu Akinari, A Sun Temple Shugenja, and the Samurai of Ito Saburo, a Dishonorable usurper whose past was shady, to say the least.

The announcement of a celebration comes as far south as Masakado, and a caravan is showing signs of being organized to travel to the Sun Temple.

The monk heading the caravan begins asking discreetly around, looking for people to protect the peasants in the caravan.

Subject: Dream time!

Mi-Kyeong was back on the airplane. She had just removed her laptop from the overhead compartment, and gone toward the exit door. She went through the airport taxi, and heard screams issuing through the doorway once it opened. Ji-Soo was behind her. Ji-Soo spoke to Mi-Kyeong in Korean.

"What's going on, Mi-Kyeong?"

"I don't know. Stay here while I go look."

Mi-Kyeong opened the door again, and saw airport personnel being born down under the torrent of cannibal-like people. She had little time to react, and shut the door. Mi-Kyeong ran back down the taxi toward Ji-Soo.

"Ji-Soo, we have to find a different way out! They're eating them!"

"What?! What are you talking about?"

"The flight attendants, everyone! They're being eaten! We have to get back on the plane and get the pilot to take off!"

The two ran to the exit door, but found it closed. Mi-Kyeong tried the door and found it locked. Ji-Soo began to panic.

"Mi-Kyeong, where can we go?!"

"The runway access door!"

The pair ran to the access door, and opened it. Mi-Kyeong saw only a few people out here, so it looked safe. She beckoned Ji-Soo down to meet her, and Ji-Soo followed unquestioningly. Mi-Kyeong saw a warehouse in the distance, roughly a two-hour walk.

"Ji-Soo, let's get to that building. We might find a place to hide."

Ji-Soo followed wordlessly, as if her voice were stricken from her. Mi-Kyeong reflected for a few minutes on their past.

Ji-Soo had aspirations of becoming a doctor. She had gone to Harvard for her Ph.D. Mi-Kyeong was an aspiring teacher, but majored in computer science, so she went to MIT. Even though they stayed in different areas of Cambridge, they still stayed in touch intermittently.

They had gone to Boston to catch their plane home, and had even gone so far as to arrange their travel plans to put themselves on the same one.

Mi-Kyeong was snapped back to reality by the sight of Russian soldiers firing AK-47s into a crowd. The sound was nearly deafening. She turned to Ji-Soo, only to see her crouched into herself covering her ears. Mi-Kyeong picked her up into a standing position, and urged her on. They continued to the fence, hoping that they would not be stopped, or worse, mistaken for these cannibals.

They came to a line of corpses and both started to vomit. Mi-Kyeong was able to come under control in time to see an impossible sight. The corpses were starting to rise. Ji-Soo was startled from her revulsion by Mi-Kyeong's scream of disbelief.

The corpses started toward the pair of them, reaching out for their throats and issuing low moans. Ji-Soo stood in shock until Mi-Kyeong startled her to the very real situation unfolding before them.

"Run! These are the ones who were eating everyone!"

"What?"

"RUN! NOW!"

They ran for a section of fence looking to have been torn through by the weight of hundreds of bodies. There appeared to be no one there, so they darted for it.

They were nearly there when Ji-Soo tripped. She had been grabbed by a corpse which had narrowly missed Mi-Kyeong. Ji-Soo was completely caught unawares by it, and the corpse bit her left carotid artery. Ji-Soo collapsed, bleeding profusely from her throat and issuing a gurgling scream of mixed pain and terror. She struggled only briefly, and the life faded from her eyes.

Mi-Kyeong charged for the lone corpse, and kicked it in the temple. The corpse crumpled, and she began to try to revive Ji-Soo. Tears were streaming down her face, and Mi-Kyeong's composure was gone.

"Ji-Soo? Come on, we have to run! We have to get home! No! Ji-Soo!!"

She was snapped to harsh reality by her last vestiges of discipline instilled in her through Taekwondo, and bitterly continued on, but not before removing Ji-Soo's necklace and pocketing it in her laptop bag. She would have to tell Ji-Soo's family, and they needed something to remember her by. Mi-Kyeong had bought the necklace, and its twin, which she wore, as a gift of congratulations for their exchange. The corpse came back and began to eat her best friend.

With no warning, she sat up with a scream, and, seeing the expressions of the men around her, realized she had actually spoken all of her dialogue from that nightmare in her sleep.

Subject: Close calls

Mi-Kyeong was silently cursing herself for letting these bastards surround her. Her fatigue would test her here.

She swatted at one of them. It stood back! Did these things retain some rudimentary intelligence? Never mind that now, she had to survive. She could speculate later.

The one behind her lunged for her shoulders. Luckily, these things were slow and clumsy. She shifted to one side, and bent her lead knee, putting her into a sidelong lean. She felt the bastard crash into her hip, as expected.

She fought her revulsion as she looped her free arm around its waist, pivoted on her lead foot, and pushed up with her hips, and the zombie was flipped over. With no time to get comfortable in her position, the zombie standing next to her lunged also.

Having switched her pipe to her other hand to throw the one behind her, and the dodging zombie having regained its footing, she was forced into another diving sidelong roll, which she executed with somewhat less of her usual vigor. She was tired, and it showed in her movements.

Mi-Kyeong tried to come up into her defensive crouch, but a spot of blood betrayed her footing, and she stumbled backward, swinging wildly in front of her to fend off the bastards as they came for her.

The thrown zombie was getting up again. Mi-Kyeong was not faring well. That wild swing knocked her onto her back.

She had to roll sideways to avoid the one that tried to fall on her. That move betrayed her as the first zombie lunged at her as well. These things did seem to retain some form of intelligence. Mi-Kyeong held her pipe jagged-edge out, aiming for the thing's throat.

Damn it, if they were going to eat her, they were going to choke! The pipe punched cleanly through its throat, knocking it to the side, but the pipe got stuck. She had to abandon the pipe in order to get up.

Mi-Kyeong rolled sideways onto her stomach, and rose to her knees. The third zombie came for her before she got ready to rise completely, and so she didn't try. Instead, she got into a ready position while on her knees. The bastard made a mistake lunging with its hands. Mi-Kyeong twisted and took hold of its arms, and pulled sharply with her left hand on the lead arm, while holding her right extended, to throw it off balance.

Success! She took its balance. She twisted forward, and pulled the bastard against her back, flipping it onto its back. She didn't even pause to do anything else. She threw herself to the side, and came up into a stance, ready to kick.

Mi-Kyeong looked to both sides, to make sure she would not find any more surprises, and saw walls on both sides. She was in a corner.

This is it, she thought. I should have waited in my closet.
Tears began to stream down her face as she braced herself for her final stand.

Then, a deafening gunshot. Then, a knife flew past her face to land in another. Mi-Kyeong turned to see a gun flying toward her. Five seconds too late, she thought.

She turned back and had gotten her knee in place for a head kick, hoping to knock the zombie's head off, and heard another shot. Flinging herself backward to the floor, Mi-Kyeong held her laptop bag to her chest, cradling it against the impact. She had to roll sideways again to avoid the one coming for her with the knife sticking out of it.

She saw her pipe in the throat of the one that hat taken the gunshot, and grabbed with no hesitation. It was lodged firmly. She stood up, placed her foot on its back, and pulled up with close to the last vestiges of her strength. The bastard's head came free with the pipe. Disgusting.

Mi-Kyeong swept her pipe at the level of the head of the one still standing. Knife-blade was getting up, and the uninjured zombie crumpled with a bullet in its head. She couldn't stop her swing, and it connected as if the thing's head was a tee-ball. She swung too hard, and took the top off of its head, spraying gore for yards.

Mi-Kyeong didn't wait for Knife-blade to finish getting up. He had attacked her on her knees, and she returned the favor with a downward swing that splattered its cranium.

She then registered the sound of the sliding gun hitting the corner, and was grateful it hadn't gone off. She picked up the gun, and put it into an ironically-sized pocket in her laptop bag, usually designed for a spare battery.

A somewhat squat, stocky white man approached Mi-Kyeong. He was walking with purpose, straight for her. He had a look of concern on his face, avoiding what gore he could.

Turning to Mi-Kyeong, he spoke, but with the ringing in her ears, she didn't hear him very clearly. It didn't matter. He was the first human being Mi-Kyeong had come into contact with since she had lost Ji-Soo.

Mi-Kyeong broke down. The stress had caught her fully. She threw her arms around this stranger, sobbing violently and jabbering unintelligibly in Korean. Mi-Kyeong could no longer stand; her exhaustion claimed her, and she fell to her knees, using the last of her strength to cradle her computer to her head as she fell sideways and passed out.

She was now at the mercy of these strangers. She could do no more until she rested. Through her haze, she belatedly recognized one voice as she lost consciousness. It was from the phone call. Maybe she would be safe, now.

Subject: No shopping until I get out, I guess...

"Damn!" Mi-Kyeong switched her search. Instead of finding out what the men there were doing, she looked for the cameras looking into the room outside. No good. She would need BrownNose.

They were, for some reason, more secure than the department store's cameras, but why? They still read as civilian. What was going on here? Legitimate questions, all, but for another time.

Gathering her laptop into its bag, Mi-Kyeong spotted a rusty pipe in the wall which looked weak in a few places.

"This is better than nothing. At least I won't put my fist into a corpse with this." She set the laptop bag down, and took a low stance with the pipe in hand, and paused.

This would be the point of no return. These things, if they were out there, would hear this. She would be forced to fight. She took a few breaths to prepare, then, an epiphany. She could take a quiet peek outside before she pulled out the section of pipe.

Taking what seemed like an eternity unlocking the door, for fear of noise too soon, Mi-Kyeong cracked the door, and braced for what she would see.

There appeared to be nothing out of sorts. This was her first break in a long time. She shut the door again, but took a different stance this time. Standing with her back to the door, Mi-Kyeong gripped the pipe just below the strained area, and pulled with every ounce of strength she could muster. It came free at the top with the unmistakable screech of protesting metal. The bottom bent to a low angle, but didn't give way, yet. Great. More noise. Pulling sharply up again, the pipe came free, and she had a section that she guessed was about a meter long. She hefted it in her hand, and it was reassuring with the weight of steel.

Now, she was ready to leave, and had little choice in the matter. It was time to be rescued on her terms.

She ventured out, and saw nothing unusual, until she had walked about thirty meters. She saw what looked like a lone German Shepherd, eating. She thought nothing of it, until she had gotten a better angle. It was eating a corpse, and was missing the skin along the left side of its face. One eye was milked over, and its tongue was bitten halfway off.

Her arm went slack, and the pipe hit the floor with a loud, reverberating clang, that echoed throughout the warehouse.

The dog perked up. The ghastly visage looked right at her, as the half tongue licked the side of its mouth. It sniffed for a second, then began to lunge at her from ten meters.

Mi-Kyeong barely had time to react. It was good that she was a black belt candidate before she left home. Her reflexes gave her a very slight edge. She dropped into a sideways crouch to present a smaller target, then backhanded the dog with the pipe, knocking it about a meter to the side, but not killing it.

The dog landed on its front paws, and used the momentum of the pipe strike to twist as it landed, giving it a chance to lunge again.

Mi-Kyeong twisted as well, to face the dog, but was a second slower, and was forced to dive sidelong to avoid the dog's teeth. Extending her free arm in an arc and tucking into her abdomen as she dove, she created similar momentum to the dog's earlier maneuver, came up into her crouch, and backhanded the dog with the pipe again. This time she heard the crack of bone, as the dog's bottom jaw flew free with the weight of her weapon, and the neck followed suit. The dog dropped, and began to twitch, but otherwise remained motionless.

Mi-Kyeong decided to make sure the dog was permanently dead. She walked over to the body, and stomped its skull. The resulting splash of gore made her retch, desperately fighting the urge to dry-heave.

She failed miserably. Dry-heaving violently, she finally managed to fight through the excruciating pain to recompose herself, and surveyed the rest of her surroundings. Nothing else seemed out of sorts, until the corpse gave a moan and started to rise.

At least it would be slower than the dog, she thought. As it rose, Mi-Kyeong charged, and brought the pipe down across its head, and got a perverse feeling of satisfaction as the angle knocked the bastard's head clean from his shoulders. Seeing a nearby door, she continued toward it, hoping her rescue was near. Composing herself, she opened the door.

Mi-Kyeong cursed under her breath. "I should have told them to wait until I got the cameras."

She was speaking to herself again. When did she pick up this habit? Must be a nerves, she thought to herself as she continued, "I'll lock the door, and give them another call. I'll tell them to announce themselves when they get here, so I don't panic when they knock."

The door wouldn't hold forever, but it might buy her some time, if she was quiet. A thought came to her, which she spoke under her breath, "Wait a second! This is Russia. They should have cameras on every corner-Hell, every store! I'll just trace that cell location, find the cameras there, get them on, and find out how long they're going to take."

She switched desktops, silently praising whoever hat built the Linux user interface, and tracked the cell-phone.

"A department store? What the hell are they doing? Wait...that makes this easy. Civilian cameras, no real security, piece of cake. I may not even need Brown-Nose."

She searched for a backdoor, and had it within seconds. Who said Russia was bad? Weak network security for the most part, it certainly made her work a lot easier.

Getting the cameras on, she made the volume barely audible, so as not to alert anyone (or anything) on the other side of the door. What she saw was a horrifying sight, but not one she was utterly unprepared for. She'd seen these things eat her best friend, Ji-Soo.

She still owed these bastards for that, she thought bitterly, tears of anger beginning to well up at the bottom of her vision. She wiped them clear, and focused on the screen.

Hoping their concentration was good, she risked another phone call. She needed weapons. A long, heat-treated oak dowel would work, if they could find one, preferably inch-and-a-half in diameter, if they could get it. A good hunting knife was also on the agenda, and maybe a steady gun; she couldn't fight close up all the time.

Luck seemed to be with her; the phone began to ring.

"Rescue? In the middle of Moscow? What was I thinking?" Mi-Kyeong thought to herself.
"No. Now seems the perfect time to clear my mind, and focus on the task at hand." It was the first, simplest lesson taught in Taekwondo.

She found an even more secluded corner of the already secluded closet she was in, and put on the black screen saver with the stars, which, she thought in retrospect, was rather ironic, considering what she was doing. She proceeded then to sit cross-legged with her wrists on her knees, hands dangling limply, and thinking to herself "At least I didn't learn this from a Tai-Chi master. I might give myself away with that ridiculous humming."

"Okay, time to be serious."
"In."
"Out."
"In."
"Out."

After about twenty minutes, her mind was empty, but for the task of survival-and getting home...and hoping her benefactors got here quickly...and...the fact that she was getting nowhere with meditating...

"Who am I fooling, here? I'm not going to clear my mind this easily, like I had a bad dream. This is real, and it won't stop until I actually do something about it."

Taking out a small notepad and a pen, she jotted down every detail about her back door into the network, then stuffed the sheet into a compartment in her bra, which she had used at school for hiding those types of things.

"Now. Time to open my eyes."

She searched for the physical security systems tied into the network. That was odd; there were cameras jury-rigged into the system. They worked, but that wasn't the point. The point was, their model suggested Cold War era technology. These should have been in a museum.

She was thought-vomiting again, she realized. Back to the current task. Preparing to backdoor into the program that controlled them, she noticed a red flag. They did have some security around things, after all. The cameras were going to be tricky.

No matter, she held a degree from MIT in this field. This was, as one of her favorite American movies had put it, her "Kung-fu," and her Kung-fu was strong.

She laughed inwardly at that thought, then loaded her tunneler bot. Its graphic looked ludicrous. It looked like a mole with a caver's hat on its head and a jackhammer in its hand. Ludicrous, but it got the job done in half an hour, as opposed to the estimated four hours it would take to sneak in around the firewalls, never mind the days a brute force attack would take, and the detection involved.

Once into the cameras, she paused to observe.

After giving her location to the team inside, she finished the conversation, hoping her boldness would continue to pay off.

"You can save your flattery. I will hack the cameras because it will help you get to me alive. When you get here alive, and move me to a secure location-and by secure, I mean free of the infestation-then we can make introductions. As for being a godsend, I think that I will be having words with whoever landed me in this hellhole, should I ever meet them. Where I want to be sent is back home to Seoul, and the sooner you get here, the better my chances would seem to be. I apologize for my rudeness, but I am agitated. I'm sure you understand."

Hearing the voice on the phone, Mi-Kyeong breathed a sigh of relief.

Thinking carefully about what to say for what seemed like an eternity, she finally spoke.

"I know you're not Russian. I can tell you now that piggybacking your signal over the Russian military net is no easy feat, and detecting it once it is accomplished is even more difficult. Based on the fact that I did both, as well as the fact that you're the only one of us on a phone, I can tell you it will be worth your while to meet up with me. I am not interested in your money, nor in job. I want to be home in Seoul, and I know you can make that happen."

Her plea spoken, she waited breathlessly for the reply.

OOC: Ammended to eliminate continuity errors(the reference to her name when, in the next post, she calls for a delay in introductions).

I have a few questions regarding profile editing. On many users' profiles, I see a section for games played in, games GMed, and on many peoples' posts, I see custom descriptions (ex. Jozan1 is listed as RDI Fixture +1). I was wondering how you do that? Is there a required number of posts before you can change anything? Do you need to ask a mod to do it for me? Do they do it on their own as they see fit to? I would like to know, and, if possible, do some of those things.

Subject: Did I hear someone ask for a hacker?

"How?" she asked herself aloud. When she was boarding the return plane from Boston to South Korea, Park Mi-Kyeong never suspected an innocent layover in Moscow could be anything but innocent. How was she, a twenty-four-year-old Korean woman, to know about the horrors she would encounter here? She was just finishing off her exchange year at MIT and going home to graduate.

"O.K. Time to stop feeling sorry for myself. Inward thinking won't change the situation. I have to get somewhere safe. Now."

With that, Mi-Kyeong flipped open her laptop, and began to search for an operational network. The search almost seemed a lost cause, until she found a military network still operating. "Strange. Wouldn't the Russians be cutting off communications to avoid exposing this?"

She decided to test the theory, and pinged for the IP address of the network mainframe. The IP address told her everything. The IP address was american, and the signal was piggybacked onto the equipment. Someone was listening.

If they could piggyback a signal, so could she. She ran her signal through the pipe, and found an anomaly. There was a building without functioning cameras. Either they were broken, or someone didn't want anyone to see what was inside. Either this showed intelligence at work, or the place was destroyed.

"Phones, maybe?" She searched for a phone.
"Finally, I get a break." she ran a phone patch. Her heart racing, she began to hear the phone ring from her end.
