Subject: This trip is BOARing (Note to self, don't make puns at 5 AM)

[Supper]

As the old man left Sordin's face fell into his palm. Or the other way around, he couldn't tell. Perhaps he had come off a little more strongly than he intended. The impression he had left with the priest was certainly not the one he wanted. It wasn't a price he was asking for, but a reason why the old man even wanted to find the temple. He was sure that Erastil had temples enough, what was one importance of finding one more? Unless the priest was on some sort of committee for locating misplaced temples. He sighed, it was the old man's REASON he wanted, not a reward. What's done was done though, he'd have to remember to clear this up with the old man when he got his next chance.

[Party]

With the confusion with the old man still bothering him, Sordin didn't feel like joining in the festivities. He turned in shortly after Kesten.

[Boars]

Sordin comfortably leaned back against the edge of the wagon and looked at the scenery as they passed it. All of it was so unlike what he was used to in Garund.

Soon before they were about to stop to set up camp, Sordin saw the boars. Normally, he'd be prefer to leave them alone. But if they were going to be stopping soon that may not be a good idea. Judging by the look of it these boars were territorial, which would not bode well for any camp they might be setting up. With any luck, they might be able to scare them away if a shot lands near. Sordin stood up, drew his bow and aimed an arrow as close he could to the larger of the three without hitting it.

[Takahashi]

Sordin observed Takahashi as he entered the camp, but made no move to introduce himself. He wanted to get a gauge of the man's personality before he let their affiliation be known. So far he had little impression of the man, however, at the very least his politeness made it seem likely that he wouldn't be prone to spontaneous murderous outbursts, which Sordin considered to be very much to the positive.

[Supper]

Sordin was surprised, and saddened by Ortlieb's announcement. Out of the whole party, the two members that he found he could relate with the most had left. The irony of how the bitter, backstabbing doctor had grown on him did not go unnoticed to Sordin. Nonetheless, he was regretting the departure of one of the few emotionally stable members of the party. He'd grown fond of him over the brief time they'd known each other.

Soon after getting seated for his meal Sordin found two strangers seated around him. Well, not quite strangers, he'd seen them before around camp but hadn't spoke to either. He hadn't met the priest, but he had run into the mercenary on their way in and knew him by name. Kesten Garess. Sordin took some pleasure in the fact that he knew more about this man than Kesten realized. He had a habit of picking up rumors, especially about important people. The more you know about someone, the greater advantage you have over them. He laughed to himself, thinking of how many Paladins would condemn that train of thought. He cared little of that. Information can be a weapon, and you never know when you'll need an extra sword. Quietly focusing on his meal he waited for one of them to speak up.

Kesten spoke up first, he asked if they had found Varisian man among the bandits. Sodrin had not seen such a man, and told Kesten so.

“If you do find the thieving coward, bring him back alive, if you can. There’s a reward in it for you all if you bring him in either way, but if he’s alive to face his punishment, my contacts will be happier to make it more worth your while.”

Sordin nodded and said, "I doubt we'd have the time to actively seek this thief out, but if we run into him we'll certainly do our best to bring him back to you"

After another brief break, allowing Sordin to dig into his food a bit, the priest voiced his request. Sordin nodded his head as the man spoke, but couldn't help but think And how does this matter to anyone, least of all me?. When the man finished Sordin sighed and said, "I'm sorry, and I don't speak for the rest of the group when I say this, but I hardly see any reason for us to seek out this temple especially seeing how you believe it to exist solely based on, ah, rumors," Sordin paused for a second, regretting letting that mockery slip out, "Sorry. You'll have to give us more reason to seek it out, we're not going to go out of our way to fight a bear just because an old man was wondering if there was a temple in the woods. Who knows, you may have better luck with someone else, I'm not the most pious sort."

Sordin was not happy with this ambush. From what he could see from beside the tree, there was no one out in the camp. This did not bode well. With Lloyd gone with them, they should have a heavier watch than normal, and so far he hadn't seen a single one of them. He sincerely hoped that they were the ones doing the ambushing, and not the other way around. There was not much else they could do however, their best chance lay in the hope that they were better hidden than the bandits suspected to be lying out of sight.

Spinning an arrow between his fingers he leaned against the tree and looked over his shoulder towards the camp. There was no movement now, but he needed to be ready when they got the signal.

“F-FIRE! Fire in the camp! They’re already—augh!” The man was cut off short when four lights burst into existence around his post, throwing light all over the canopies and illuminating his platform as bright as day.

He heard a light thud as the man fell over onto the platform. He caught sight of the silhouettes of some figures bursting from the shadows. Making sure to keep in the shadows he moved to the east so that he could have an open shot. Once in position, he raised his bow, and pulled back the arrow from his hand. He aimed as best as he could towards one of the shadows and let the arrow fly.

Sordin would definitely agree with going after the bandit camp first. But before that I think we should be asking for more details specific to the layout of the camp. I think telling Oleg to kill the bandits if we do not return in a certain amount of time would be a good idea to make them more cooperative with us. Of course Sordin would suggest it only as a bluff.

Subject: Foreseeing many quarrels in the future

Sordin was staggered by Lloyd's sudden outburst, and during the shouting match going on between the two he could not get a word in until Sylvia had already left. Really? They choose now to have a row at each other?, he thought, And of all of the people to have a heated argument with, Lloyd really chose the worst person. He did not entirely disagree with Lloyd's sentiments though, if anyone were to lead the group, Ortlieb would be the best choice. Everyone had at the very least a feeling of indifference towards him. As for himself, Sording had the feeling that there were already two people who he would regularly have conflict with. Besides, he much preferred the role of an adviser. He was good at weighing weighing the benefits versus consequences, and a decision is given more weight it is decided on by someone other than the one who suggested it. If he was a leader and chose only his own suggestions it would shake their faith in his suitability.

The dirty look he received from Lloyd made him frown. He was completely capable of putting aside his sense of justice when it mattered. It was an irritating stereotype of Paladins that he had to endure wherever he went. What's good in the short term will not always be what's good in the long term, one of the first lessons he had been taught by his master. He winced, remembering the method that had been used to teach him that, brutal, yet effective.

(If Lloyd was still present)

"I think... you both spoke and read more into the other than was there." She noted, even though Sylvia and perhaps even Lloyd may have been gone already. She scratched at her cheek, "There is no leader, so there is no position to quarrel over. Sometimes someone acts first. People follow if they choose to follow. If they don't, they don't. I didn't sign a contract, and I don't intend to sign a contract of that sort. I'll do what I feel like doing. If I don't agree with something, I'll say so and suggest something else."

Sordin looked sternly at Lloyd, a hint of the frown still lingering on his face, "Aria is right, Sylvia became leader the second that you let her be. Although..." Sordin now turned to Aria, "I disagree with the lack of need for a leader. So far we have ran into many disputes, which have yet to have any significant effect only because of how we have not yet been pressed for time. If such a situation would arise, I fear that we would fall apart and lose. A bad plan is better than no plan, and we need someone who can give us that plan. For that role I would second Ortlieb, he has already shown ability to make a decision quickly," Although for the wrong reasons, sadly, making a decision to placate the group was not particularly wise, yet he is still the best option He thought to himself as he spoke.

(If Lloyd has already left he will say the same except that it will all be directed at Aria instead of Lloyd as well)

Regardless of how much I love debating strategies, I must grudgingly admit that Shades is right, we will have to fight the bandits at some point.

To help expedite the process, I'll say that if someone ends up mentioning that Ortlieb is likely able to follow the path they came by, Sordin will concede, being satisfied with knowing that they have a backup in case the interrogation fails.

As hard as he tried to keep a calm and straight face, he could not hold back the odd involuntary twitch of the eye as Sylvia misunderstood his plans and reasoning. Taking in a deep sigh in an attempt to rid his voice of signs of irritation, he responded to Sylvia. "It appears I may not have been as clear in my reasons as I should have been. It is not a conflict that I fear, it is a gamble. A gamble that, might I add, becomes much less stacked in our favor without the use of drugs or alcohol." Sordin shoots Sylvia an inquiring gaze, "May I ask why you do not hesitate to suggest killing the bandits while interrogating them with the assistance of alcohol is inexcusable? I'm sure that they would take disorientation and a loose tongue over death any day."

"I apologize, that isn't pertinent. Anyways, I was not suggesting that we be idle and do nothing, but rather deal with them on our own terms, at a time of our choosing. If we attack them at their hideout they will have little reason to come after Oleg and Svetlana, they won't necessarily even know of their involvement. Once we deal with them we are free to return the goods to the fort."

"But my main issue is with the interrogation. What do we do should that fail? While I am not fond of drugging the bandits to get information from them, I will not take torture lying down. I might as well warn you beforehand that if I see any attempt at torture I will do my best to intervene. And as Sylvia has mentioned her distaste for drugging them it seems that our tools for interrogation are limited to asking them really nicely and threats. Not exactly what I'd consider the most reliable methods."

"Can we agree upon this? I'm afraid that I'm not going to change my opinion simply because you request it. As political or bureaucratic as it may become I will not agree with you until you invalidate my opinion, and as that has not yet happened I fear that we will remain in disagreement for at least a little bit longer."

Sordin turned to Aria, "If we do end up choosing to attack them at the fort I do agree that locking them inside would be a good idea. How quickly can the doors of the fort be closed though? It might be helpful to find that out beforehand so we can plan accordingly. My point still stands with the interrogation however, I don't think it would be wise to put all of our hopes into it's success."

It seems altogether too much of a gamble, that's counting on:
1. We can successfully restrain one of them
2. They'll give out information once they're interrogated

If we either end up killing them, run of them runs away, or someone we capture doesn't talk it puts the fort in a very bad position.

EDIT: And it looks like Sibelius pretty much covered everything I wanted to say. Haha yes, Sordin might have slight issue with torturing the bandits.

Subject: Too risky

"Considering the numbers that Oleg described I'd say they could prepare for a retaliation in... a couple hours maybe? Remember that they originally only sent 12 people, considering how their numbers dwindled afterwards I'm guessing they only sent that many because they did not know whether or not the fort was guarded, either that or as a show of force to intimidate it's occupants. Regardless I can't imagine them sending more than that to retake it, if they have more that is, so they should be able to depart very soon after they realize their last group failed. Not that I think they will though."

"However, I do agree with you that it would be best to track them down to their base and take care of them there. However, what if the people we capture do not talk? We have no lead on where they are and they are able to attack on their own terms. I don't think we can afford to remain in this fort for however long they decide to wait to attack. If I were them I would wait some time before launching the second attack, waiting until the fort is completely unguarded. They would likely assume that we are temporary guards considering our lack of intervention prior to this."

"Personally, I think that our best option is to," Sordin hesitated a bit, looking at Oleg as he said it,"let them take what they want this time and track them back to their base. They've been getting away with this without a hitch so far, if we do not show ourselves they have no reason to suspect being followed."

Sordin laughed a bit darkly, "But it all depends on whether they'll want to get a message across to us or to you," directing this at Oleg. "It's your call, you know these bandits better than we do. I might be making some outlandish assumptions here, but I have experience with bandits back home and I don't want to leave much to chance."

Sordin listened to Oleg with his arms crossed, and wearing a persistent frown on his face. Once the man finished Sordin gave a few seconds of thought before he spoke. "Excuse me... Oleg was it?" He looked around briefly, to make sure he'd gotten the name right. Seeing no interruption he continued. "I am nothing but sympathetic to your plight, and I do indeed agree that measures should be taken to help solve it, and I'm more that willing to assist with that. It's just... I fear assisting in the way that you wish us to will only serve to worsen your problems."

"You say that the troop coming tomorrow morning is only a fraction of the original size? Will taking out these four bandits and the archer, if it's even that many, halt the attacks on your fort? The impression I'm getting is that they've got a fair bit more than that in reserve. Wiping out the group tomorrow may save you in supplies, but I fear it'll have a much greater negative effect once we leave. As Ortlieb said" Sordin gestures to the half-orc, "They'll be coming hear not expecting a fight. If we take these out, next time they come armed and angry. Do you have any contingency planned for when that happens? This might be worth losing some furs over if it means you keep your lives."

"Please know that I do wish to help you, I just want to ensure what I am doing is actually 'help'."

Topic: Kingmaker Campaign
Subject: 2nd post on 3rd page, sorry!

Having finished helping out the driver some time ago, Sordin waited outside patiently listening the conversation inside. His reasons for this were two-fold. He wanted time to sort out his opinion on the matters before he chose to interject, and secondly, eavesdropping was a bad habit he had picked up from his master. On the plus side however, it gave him more time to analyze the people he was with.

More than once he had to stifle a laugh while listening to Lloyd. He was a very particular, self righteous person, one who expected his demands to be met regardless. As amusing as it was to listen to him now, Sordin acknowledged that he might cause a fair bit of trouble later on. Plans on how to deal with this should be made sooner than later. He doubted that he himself would have much influence on Lloyd, perhaps one of the female members would have more of a pull on him? Not likely, Sordin thought, his rudeness extended to Sylvia equally. Aria then perhaps? Still rather unlikely, this angle seemed too much to hope for.

Sylvia seemed somewhat childish, she was very outspoken and would rarely reflect before she would say something. At the very least she was easy to read, her position should be obvious in most cases and it seemed unlikely for her to resort to any subterfuge.

Junn and Ortlieb seemed like they would work very well for the team. Both were respectful to the other members, and seemed to put more care in their words. Sordin was glad that he had little to worry about from them. Aria however... Sordin could not tell much from the little he'd heard from her.

Sordin shook his head, that was enough analyzing for now. Given the little information he had he was bound to make incorrect assumptions, and that could lead him into troublesome situations. Deciding that he had waited long enough he decided to return to the table when he heard something that caught his attention.

“It might not be much, but we can’t thank you enough for helping us out with the bastards. Oleg’s been sending every trapper going to the city with requests, but things were starting to get worrisome until word of your coming arrived. Isn’t that right dear?”

Wait. Helping out with those bastards? He hadn't heard anything of this. He waited to hear more.

“They’ll be here tomorrow morning, the second of every month. Now I don’t know much about fighting, but I want those thieving craven whore’s sons to remember what fear is. You think you can do that?”

That's... new. Had anyone else been informed of this? The pause immediately following Oleg confirmed his suspicious. No, they had definitely not. This unsettled him, while he had no issue with helping Oleg and his wife, there was a certain amount of worry regarding why this information had been withheld from them. Could Oleg be trying to lie to them , making it sound like this had been part of our original mission? It's too soon to jump to conclusions, but that possibility lay burning in the back of Sordin's mind. He would help regardless, but he did not like the idea of this man trying to manipulate them into it.

Following that and his companions confusion there were murmurs of passwords. Really? Passwords? Their group was easily small enough to be able to recognize each other without one. It's not like they had just met each other either. Sordin relaxed his shoulders and sighed, he had been gone long enough, it was long past the time he should have returned.

He smiled sheepishly as he walked in, "Sorry about that, feeding the horses a fair bit longer than I had expected. Nearly got my hand bitten off in the process too. What's this talk I hear about bandits?" He felt his power quivering as he said this, Sordin hated this limitation of Paladins, hopefully this was mundane enough to have no effect. Regardless, he should refrain from such white lies for the rest of the day, especially considering they may have to fight tomorrow.

As Sordin vaults over the side of the wagon his long, grey (well on it's way to becoming prematurely white) hair falls in front of his eyes as he does so. He casually pushes it to the side and takes a now unobstructed look at the outpost. Even though he had been abroad for quite some time, he had yet to get used to the simplicity of most of the world outside of Rahadoum. The vibrant colors, fine dress and warped architecture of Azir were so very different from what he was seeing now. Of course the simplicity in itself had it's own virtues, he found it altogether more relaxing.

He approaches the wagon driver, "The trip here was much appreciated, would you like some assistance stabling the horses? That is if you are planning to stay the night of course."

It all seemed to happen as a blur, the "Demon dog" rushing in and attacking the man, Ben charging forwards to attack, and the wolf attempting to devour him. Fear was building up inside of me, in the condition that Ben was in it was unlikely that he would be able to endure another assault. It wasn't very powerful, but there's a spell that I've been tinkering with that might be able to delay it for several seconds. My gaze shifts to the dying man beside me. I have no time to weigh my options I have to decide quickly.

Looking helplessly at the man's wounds I look for anything I recognize. The jugular doesn't seem to be damaged but what looks like an artery appears to dangerously close to the wounds. I look along it for any damage, but with all of the blood it's difficult to tell. I rip off part of my sleeve and look towards the nearest villager.

"Keep this pressed against the back of his neck" I turn my attention to the next closest villager, "Find a doctor or cleric who'd be able to tend to him."

As soon as the villager has him safely I turn around and run towards the Demon dog, struggling to remember the incantation.

The two hour trek to Thomas' estate is short and peril-less. The group follows along the main road until they turned on to a path in a lightly forested area. From there it was only a short walk to his estate.

As Thomas' house approaches you feel a cool breeze rush towards you. The sound of waves crashing into the shore slowly grows in volume. Finally as the trees begin to thin out you can see Thomas' estate. It is moderately large and rather tall but otherwise surprisingly uninteresting. From the distance you are from the estate you cannot see any goblins. In fact there are no smashed windows, broken or damaged doors or any signs of forced entry. Through one of the windows in the front of the building you see a warm flickering glow.

56 books? Thats quite impressive, and here I was proud with my twelve...

I find it amusing wondering why roleplaying games are so unpopular. Is it so much worse than people who spend all of their time obsessing over sports? At least roleplaying games involve creativity and imagination, although in general society imagination doesn't seem to register as a good quality.

Personally though I've never had trouble telling people I play D&D. Sure they'll bug me about it, but I have just as many things to use against them in rebutall. In my experiences if I don't make a deal about it then no one really cares what I do. However I've always wanted someone to make fun of me for it so that I could laugh at them.

“That’ll be one silver please.” The barman nods at the serving wench. “If you’ll have a seat it’ll be out in only a moment.” Upon a quick inspection of the room the only seat left was one by a hooded figure, a cleric as obvious from her holy symbol, and a Halfling.

Bravish raised his eyebrow puzzled for a few moments. So the man wasn't going to feed him for free? It had been quite some time since he had last visited a tavern. "A silver what?" He began to ask when it came back to him. 'Civilized' people traded goods for small chunks of metal, and if he remembered correctly they often were very particular about the color of the metal as well. While working in the mines several months back a dwarf had insisted on giving him metal pieces in exchange for his labor. Despite having insisted that he had no need for a dwarve's scrap metal, the dwarf had gotten so worked up that he ended up accepting it anyways.

He fished through his pockets feeling around for the silver the barkeep asked for. He felt something hard and smooth and drew it from his pocket. To his dismay it was gold coin. He looked nervously towards the barkeep, hoping that he'd accept it.

As he approached the empty seat, meal in hand, he avoided looking at either the cleric or halfling. Eye contact is one of the leading causes of conversation. He wanted a nice, quiet meal and after all of the work he had went through to obtain it he wasn't going to let someone ruin it. He sat down, and prepared to bite into his meal.

“Help! The dead have arisen! The town is under attack!“ A man burst into the tavern as Bravish received his meal. Kirregan immediately turned from his conversation and sprinted out the doors followed by two others.

Bravish paused, emotionlessly for several seconds before his head drooped down pathetically. He gazed upon the delicious pork chop lying on his plate. His fork had only been planted halfway into it, and how softly it had entered, acutely displaying the tenderness of the meat. He let go of his fork and slowly stood up, those who could see his face saw an expression of pure loathing. He turned his gaze upwards directing his discontent at the gods themselves.

"IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR ONE SIMPLE MEAL!!!"

He slung his shield on to his back and drew his quarterstaff as he ran out through the door muttering curses that were much to innappropriate for a tavern setting.
