Brian was thinking of grabbing the shotgun and killing Alaster before he got to the zombies. Strictly out of mercy of course.

"I'm Emily, and I'm kinda the group doctor. If you get hurt, just tell me, and I should be able to patch you up," Her voice was strained, and Emily's eyes dark with mistrust, "And... If you hurt any of the others, I swear, you're gonna regret it. Now's not the time to get all buddy-buddy, so don't plan on it with me. Murph might trust you, but I sure as hell don't, and I won't."

Brian laughed ruefully out loud at Emily statement, “Really! Civilization is gone to hell in a handbasket, creatures are stalking us and you want to make me the enemy? That’s the best you got? You all need to get your priorities straight. I came here to help you in case you missed it. Does the armour bother you? Because it has kept me alive and if mankind manages to put aside their petty misgivings, paranoia and gathers together as a whole again, this armour will become all the fashion rage for the next 20 years!”

“Let’s fall in and get our a$$es movin’, people." Tom called out and Brian fell in at the rear to defend the back.

This is bad, he thought to himself, Very bad. as he watched behind him. The chain mail protected him well but it also slowed him down. When two of them came around the corner, Brian felt confident that he could take them out but the cries told a story of many more coming.

“We need a defensible area Tom! The wounded need to rest!” Brian yelled out. Actually we need to dump the wounded as bait and run but you aren’t ready for that decision yet are you?

“My people need some quiet,” said the man who intercepted the hatchet and brought order to this group. He had slugged the man who threatened him (well deserved too) and then talked calm to the crazy woman with the dead child. Poor dude Brian thought, Saddled with a bunch of lunatics in a crazy world . He (Tom. Brian was sure he heard Tom) continued to speak, “If you know some place we can do that, lead on…” he gestured towards the retreating woman, “If not, we’re headin’ for the harbor and you’re welcome to come along…”

"Harbour eh?. Excellent idea, at least it worked for Athens. I'm a stranger here so I'll take your lead - I don't know my way aboot so just point the way eh. The name's Brian by the way. Thanks for the offer Tom."

The short man said watching the woman wandering off. He wanted to warn this Tom about the danger of forming attachments right now and how he would probably have to leave the injured and loony toonies behind, but something in his eyes made Brian hold his tongue. Time enough later, for Brian had found some survivors and that was a good thing.

Subject: hello

Yes I have joined this game with a SCA nut who happened to be caught in the zombie hell after attending a Seige Re-enactment. He received a head injury and was trapped in the hospital for a number of days while the zombies ran rampant.

For the record I haven't hurt anyone except killed a zombie. Brian is wearing chain mail, a spainish style helm, motorcycle boots he reinforced with metal greaves himself and carries a large kite shield and a arming sword. Yes, he is not very tall. Picture Paul Giamatti in chain mail.

Background: Dr. Brian Bollard (Doctorate in both Medieval Literature and Medieval Studies) is SCA’s (Society of Creative Anachronism) Principle Instructor/Curriculum Developer and has been teaching sword and shield based martial arts semi-professionally for 10 years and has been involved in the study and practice of Medieval martial arts for 20 years. He has traveled both within Canada, the United States and in Europe providing instruction in armizare according to his interpretation of Fiore dei Liberi's "Flos Duellatorum" and "Fior di Bataglia". He also researched and studied the sword & buckler plays as depicted in his published works and introduced this fighting style as part of the SCA curriculum in 2000.

“You… you killed my boy! You killed Joshua! You killed Joshua! How dare you!? You’ll pay I’ll make you pay!” she screamed.

Brian looked at the woman who he had just rescue wildly swing a hatchet at him while holding the dead ...thing. Not that he should have expected gratitude in these times. Surely some crazed mothers burned to death holding the bodies of their young killed during the black plague in 1348. There were so many parallels one could draw actually if one thought about the two period... But back to matter at hands. He hoisted his shield up to protect himself from any wild (and extremely lucky blows ... I mean if you attack with a hatchet you hold the shaft at the bottom and do short swings and fast blows) hits. Time for a reality check - really.

"Listen up lady. That thing stopped being a boy ten days ago. It is now a disease ridden monster and if you haven't noticed - it us versus them!" He shouted in his best sensei addressing a new recruit voice. "Now grow up! They're playing for keeps out here missie!" Brian looked over and saw other people exiting the store. He has heard the gunfire after he had left the hospital where he had been trapped for the last fortnight. The monsters didn't use guns, but survivors did. People would have to gather, move out of urban centres and into defensible positions so other could come and civilization could be rebuild. History just went medieval on their collective asses.

"This way! Come on!" Brian shouted out, "Yes I am wearing armour and Yes this is a sword! Long story! Can you help here because I rather not hurt this lady."

Ziv stared at the commlink in Merc’s hand, “Well look at that! Man I must say that Jedi is amazing!” Ziv clapped Merc on the shoulder, “I guess you were right. No plan is the best plan.”

“Right.” Mercury responded distantly, “I knew he’d be fine. He had to be fine. Everything is gonna be fine. Fine?”

He keyed the comm. button again, “Mercury rising standing by. Give us a location or beacon or something.”

Jaal fixes Ziv with a stare. "Somebody that can help? Maybe so. Hmmm..."

Lana interrupts. "Listen, boys, I know you all are just itching to play hero, to shoot up the TDF base and swoop out with your friends in tow, but have you thought about what you'd do then? We gotta get off this rock sometime, and if you go cracking open a TDF holding cell, you better have a ride lined up."

Jaal looks at Lana, then back at Ziv and Mercury. "Maybe she has a point?"

Mercury adjusted his steering and pushed the engines to top speed. “Yeah! Great point! Why don’t you guys get on that while I drive us back and rescue our friends! I mean, how tough can they be?”

It suddenly hit Mercury that in all the confusion and pointless discussion of plans that he still had his commlink. At first Mercury pondered if he could rig the thing as an explosive device to serve as a diversion. He dismissed that idea and moved on to setting up audio feedback to incapacitate the soldiers. After he realized he had no idea how to do that it occurred to him to actually use the device.

“Yo! Blind guy.” Mercury called into the commlink. The TDF could be listening so he decided he better use a code or something, “This is Mercury rising. We’re coming in hot and ... all your calls are going to be early. Can you give me a … a … whereabouts of the …um …lost …um …red …um …soldierboy ... yeah. Come in please!”

Ziv hangs on again as Mercury jams on the brakes, “Easy Merc, We will have to come up with a plan but we shouldn’t do it out here in the middle of nowhere.”

“Plan?” Mercury asks surprised, “We don’t have time for plans. We’ll make it up as we go. I mean, how tough can they be?”

“I think we should find a safe place to hold up and discuss our next step,” Ziv said looking at the remainder of their shrinking group.

Mercury shifted the speeder back into gear, “Okay, someone give me directions or an idea please!” he says loudly, “Cause people could be dying here while we hide out and make plans” he adds dramatically. “We need a diversion, and then we grab our guys and go. What do we got that explodes? Could jury rig the fuel tanks...”

Mercury turns his head for a moment when Jaal smashed the comm. "Okay! What in the name of Hoth is going on?"

Jaal snaps. "Jeena is dead, what do you think is going on?"

Mercury didn't reply but looked quickly behind him and in the rear view to make sure they weren't being followed. He was about to draw his blaster and ask again, more nicely when farmer-boy recovered his emotions, 'I'm sorry. My father hates the Jedi order. He blames them for our mom's death so many years ago. I think…no, I know he done something. I think he tipped off an anti-jedi group about your jedi friend. I bet he thought Jenna and me; we'd be long gone before shooting started. I'm sorry but your friends are in serious trouble."

Mercury slams on the brakes and swerved the speeder into a controlled spin. "What! What is going on here? Is this the universe against me day? Myrock on a stick!" Mercury turns to look at Ziv and Lans in the back, "Okay people? What are we doing? I'm thinking rescue time."

Jaal pipes up, "The plantation ain't poor. I can likely lay my hands on some decent credits."

"Great," Mercury drawled sarcastically, "I could use a Thangarian Mark 4 right now."

It wasn’t the first time that Mercury was in a fire fight, and it wasn’t gonna be his last. He quickly brought Jeena to cover with the help of Luna. They need somewhere to keep her safe. Mercury spies a garage door and opens it. There before them is the welcome sight of Jaal's ancient SoroSuub 45.

‘Sweet.” Mercury exclaims. As gently as possible, he and Lana pull the still form of Jeena up into the speeder and usher Jaal inside, and momentarily, Mercury finds himself at the controls.

“Hold on tight to her!” The young man calls out as he powers up the engines, “This ain’t gonna be a smooth ride!”

He pulled out the speeder as fast as he dared, pulling it into a sharp swerve to present the best cover for him and his friends.

“Let’s get out of here!” Mercury cries out.

“Come on, our taxi is here” Ziv shouts out as he gets on.

Everyone is making the dash to the speeder, when mercury Sees that Caise appears to be going the wrong way.

“HEY! WE’RE LEAVING!” Ziv shouts out at the Jedi in confusion.

Mercury shakes his head and mutters, “Son of a Bantha! Goon squad is coming! You blind laserbrain!” With disgust, Mercury slams the speeder throttle, with intentions of riding close and fast to the Jedi so someone (anyone!) can reach out and grab the fool before he gets blasted.

"Dammit!" he mutters, "Not losing another!"

OOC: Mercury does not want to leave a man behind, but he won’t risk killing himself and everyone else to do it. I’m not sure if everyone will make it to the speeder, but Mercury will want to get Damanil to help him grab Caise and run. If not, then he get everyone to safety and go back for the jedi.

"Well kiddo. It really ain't any of your business, but since I'm in a good mood, I'll let you in on a secret.”

Mercury leaned in to listen to the tale that the soldier was telling him. He couldn’t grasp it all though. Something about not being a soldier and yet being a soldier and a slew of different commanders. Basically, Damanil was working his own agenda now that things had gone Bantha legs up.

"So if you don't mind, I'll enjoy your company for a little longer?" the Mercenary asked with a congenial pat on his shoulder.

“Sure. I guess. Just don’t see what’s in it for you, that’s all.”

He wandered along the market with Damanil for a while, hoping to find a replacement for his lost sidearm on the ship. Wasn’t too likely here so he wasn’t too disappointed.

Then the Jedi appeared again and gathered up the group. There was some talk about what they were going to do next that Mercury half listened to until Caise said, “We’ll need to make arrangements for transport there, of course and, when we arrive, Mercury, if you could look into finding an out-bound ship for us…”

"Huh?" Mercury said profoundly, "Oh yeah! Sure. I can do that."

Then suddenly Jeena was down on the ground bleeding from the chest, and a chunk of polyblock explodes into shrapnel mere inches to the side of Damanil. Mercury’s instincts took over and he immediately dove for the closest thing that would serve as cover then drew out his blaster.

“Get them out of here,” Caise cried.

Lana called out, "You heard the Jedi! If she has any chance of surviving, both of you need to find some cover! Now!"

Mercury looked at Jeena but saw his sister there in her place. Keeping low, Mercury makes a mad dash towards them.

OOC: Mercury will attempt to grab the wounded Girl and drag/carry her to a place of safety.

Mercury was bored. One market was much like another. Normally he would be eager to explore and enjoy himself, but the sudden upheaval of his life had taken his enthusiasm.

He followed his companions for awhile, listening to the banter of the engineers aback and forth. He admired a few machines that passed by when the soldier from the ship was always staying with them.

Normally, Mercury liked to keep clear of official types, but he was more curious than cautious at this point. "Hey?” he asked Damanil, “Soldier-boy? Shouldn’t you be off reporting to your unit? Or some command post? Why you still here?”

OOC: Not offense to Raven, it just struck me that someone should ask why he is still here.
