Topic: Aust's Journey - A Side Adventure
Subject: Saddle up

I thank you Ameiko. We will head out immediately - and borrow two of your stronger horses.

Aust, I'll meet you at the gate to the South road, just outside the walls. I will have to get these animals used to Sly being around and gather some fresh berries, it shouldn't take but a few hours. In that time, you can ensure we have adequate food from the market - and perhaps a few healing potions.

Farlanh takes his leave of the Inn's owner and heads out to the stables. He prepares the horses for quick travel, and instructs Sly in how to behave around the horses not to scare them.

Ameiko, What direction was the wagon coming from? Did the patrol state where they found the burnt wagon? I'd like to head out and search for them. Perhaps we will have better luck than the patrol - Aust is a fair tracker.

Aust - go pull together some equipment. I'm low on rations and water. Horses would be good too. I'll put together some goodberries for us and perhaps the siblings.

"Madam Mayor, unfortunately they were not with us. I will be happy to deliver this gift to Rauno when we next see him. Aust and I are anxious to find the siblings and discuss our run-in with the goblins. I take it you have no idea where they are? If not, we will check with the gate guards to see if they have gone somewhere."

First, we check the Rusty Dragon Inn. If no sign, we ask the gate guards at all the gates if they've seen Rauno and Esmerelda pass in the last day or so.

"Good Mayor, we have run into a contingent of the bugbear Bruthazmus's goblin army on the road north. We were camping out, but lit too large of a campfire I guess. We heard them coming and were able to avoid detection. When they left, they mentioned they were heading to Mosswood. This is disturbing, as I believe they may be heading to discuss alliances as your ranger friend had mentioned before. Had there been more of us, we could have defeated them, but alas, 3 vs 3 dozen was not good odds. My cousin and I ran straight here after our encounter. You should post warnings that the North Road may not be safe for small bands of travelers."

"Let it be so. Sarlana, may Gozreh be with you in your travel to the Mierani. Please send a message to Sandpoint if you can that you made it safely."

"Aust, let's go. As much as I enjoy a good race, I don't think we should rush back. We need to hurry, but carefully."

Once the goblins are gone, we make our way back to the campsite, and attempt to locate Sarlana. I make my way to the spot where she disguised the cart.

"Well, since we're alive, shall we move on north?"

"Aust, this is a good sign. If these goblins nearest us have not seen us, the others will not likely see Sarlana either. We can simply wait here until they give up on finding us. And, if they do find her, we can attack and distract them long enough to escape."

I look at my cousin and count off 8 goblins, 1 hobgoblin. If noticed, we will see what happens. We continue hiding as best we can.

Subject: Sarlana

Quietly, I whisper to my cousin:
"Aust, I would never leave a comrade behind. Capable as she may be, I would not leave her here to chance. She has been my teacher and close friend for nearly a year now. I say we wait this out in this location. If we are discovered, we will try to quickly and quietly dispatch the small scouts before they can raise an alarm. Then we wait for the rest of the host to leave. If Sarlana is discovered, I will try to slow the movement or stop the main host so we can take on only those that escape. Then, we could rush to Sarlana's aid, then run. Otherwise, I fear we're dead. I hate these horrid creatures and would gladly destroy them to prevent whatever destruction they would reign on Nature, but the sheer numbers make me nervous."

Subject: Need to notify Sandpoint

Knowing that the numbers are too many, Farlanh backs away from the campsite, back toward the road, leaving as little trail as possible. If the ground is soft, I obscure my tracks with branches and leaves. (No trackless step yet). (Hide and move silent(s?)

I say in elven to my companion: "Sly, keep behind me, with an eye towards these goblins. Do not attack them unless you're seen."

Remembering a time when Aust and I would play in the woods as young(er) elves, I imitate the bird call of the Flanton, known only in the Mierani forest, indicating my position. I repeat every few minutes, hoping Aust and Sarlana will find me (as I know I won't find them). I hope that the goblins do not understand the bird call for what it truly is.

Quickly load the cart. Mention to Aust and Sarlanna that I am heading off in the opposite direction, taking out my bow. I motion for Sarlana to leave the cart and take shelter in the trees near me.

"Ha! Why am I not surprised, Aust? Ambushing poor passers-by" I say with a smile on my face. "We were actually looking for you - I heard you were headed north, and thought we could travel the the Mierani forest together. I am bound to travel with Sarlana, and as long as we're both going the same direction, I thought we could travel together. What do you say?" I continue towards my cousin, and move to embrace him.

"Where exactly were you going, anyway? After all the excitement in Sandpoint we've had, I imagine I'll be going back. It's nice to feel needed."

Sense Motive = 14 (8+6)
Listen = 7 (1+6) unfortunately I probably don't recognize the voice at this distance, but I don't he is with others.

Bandit, show yourself! It appears to me that YOU are the one who is outnumbered. Even so, we will let you be. We have no quarrel with you. If you decide to harass us, you will regret that decision.

I lead the two of us forward, keeping a wary eye on the figure in the woods.

Farlanh turns casually to Sarlana and mentions the figure he noted up the road. "Do not be alarmed, but I see someone waiting off the road ahead. They look to be waiting in ambush. I only see one, but there may be more. Be prepared for a fight." Farlanh draws his quarterstaff and begins using it like a walking stick. While walking, he imbues it with the power of his faith. Sarlana shifts the weight of her pack to make casting easier, should it be necessary.

The pair continues down the path, wary of the figure hiding in the forest.

Subject: Aust! Wait for me!

Having heard that Aust is heading out of town, he does his best to run down his cousin and comrade in arms.

I am fully equipped for travel, having restocked rations and prepared goodberries for the journey. I am bringing Sarlana with me, to escort her north back to the Mierani. It would be nice not having to travel with just the two of us again.

Sarlana is happy with this year's sales at the festival. The furs went for a fair price, and after the uprising of the goblins, her healing herbs and components fetched a more than fair price on the market.
