Subject: Okay.

Sheva's downstairs (finally).

To save a lot of re-iterative posting problems, I can just assume you have apprised Sheva of recent events, losses, etc. (what's covered so far in the posts -- up until Aelistae's brief leave of the table. Sheva will be there for that, and for the revelation Aelistae unloads on the party when she returns.

That way we could move on to more data exchanging a little more quickly (?)

Would that be okay with everyone?

I'll work on the next post, but won't post it until I have a majority yea or nay on my suggestion. I don't wanna step on toes, here ...

Subject: The sleeper has awakened ...

Sheva awoke in the morning. At least she thought it was morning. The sun was in her eyes and everyone else in the room was gone. (Probably let me sleep as a courtesy) , she thought, smiling. (One mark to the good for them, but I have questions. And I don't know how much time I will have to ask them..)

She roused herself and began the morning ritual of pulling out her spellbooks and preparing the day's spells. Once that was done, she used two Mending spells to repair her linen underblouse and leather shirt. That finished, and after checking the quality of the mends, she donned the blouse and shirt, re-packed her books in her backpack. She then checked to make sure her precious Bag was intact and undamaged from her previous night's encounter.

While Sheva was mending the shirts, Kitsaa traveled her arms and shoulders, his footpads feeling like teeny-tiny suction cups on Sheva's bare skin as he moved. He politely gave up his inspection of the preveiously-damaged area of her torso while she donned the blouse and shirt again, then quickly resumed his traditional travel-spot, clinging to her chest with his head in the hollow of Sheva's neck. At a casual glance, he would look like an embroidered pattern on the shirt -- until he moved.

Grabbing her gear, she had a thought. Now would be a good time to have a dagger handy for a backup weapon. She set her backpack down long enough to pull out the belt and sheathed dagger, then donned all, picked up her finely-carved staff, and headed downstairs.

It didn't take Sheva long to locate her newfound friends Aelistae and Linnix, but she stopped briefly when she noticed the sheer number of people with them. Their table was downright crowded with others, including a couple of male figures. (So much for an all-female group. And the number? Not so much moe or different than that of her former companions.) She briefly wondered how they were faring, but they were on hiatus, on holiday, resting from a wearying quest completed only recently. As she herself was supposed to be "resting". At her mentor's home. (Ah, well. Evidently, such was not meant to be. I am here and now. Let's see what the fates have in store for me. For us?) She strode slowly toward the table, making herself even more obvious by her slow movemnent than her flaming-red, tightly-curled locks already made her.

Once at the table she stood quietly until noticed and addressed, then spoke with a cheerful note to her voice and a mischievous gleam in her eye,"Greetings all! What trouble are we getting into today? For those of you I have not met, and there appears to be quite a number of you whom I haven't met until now, I am Sheva. Arcsheva Redmane. And this fine animal .. ", Sheva stroked Kitsaa from head to tail, quickly and lightly once, "... is Kitsaa." She pronounces the name as "KEET-sah". She grabs a nearby chair, pulls it over to the table, and joins them.

[OOC: After introductions, hand-clasps, nods and smiles all around, she awaits updates as to her current place and circumstances. Will post again accordingly ... hopefully quickly ...]

Subject: Only a few minutes? Holy --- !

“But what of the Cardinal, I know he was in here, I could sense his aura, that foul reeking stench of evil that has haunted my senses ever since I took up the hunt to bring him down. That girl’s own words verify it, Where is he, I do not sense him any longer. Speak up, tell me what you know.”

“We…we don’t know anything,” she lied, “The man helped to free us and then disappeared before the fighting was over.”

Sheva had been about to open her own mouth and mention a gate and a man stepping through it. It was, in truth all she knew for certain, other than the fact that he had helped them. But at the dark woman's -- Aelistae's -- response to the breast-plated woman's demands, she smiled slowly and merely looked down at her slashed blouses and plucked at them in silence. But quite a few words and snatches of phrases were noteworthy enough for her to remember and ask about later: Cardinal and evil and hunt him down? Demonic accomplices? Slavers? Bounty Hunter's Guild? Tessa? And her new companions were all female. The only male she saw helping them had stepped out when it was all over.

By the heavens, she had questions, and lots of them!

Then the breast-plated woman laid her hands on Sheva, spreading a warmth and soothing throughout the fire-haired woman's body. Sheva took a deep breath and look the woman in the eyes in unabashed relief, mouthing "Thank you" in genuine, heartfelt gratitude before returning her eyes to the floor.

She fervently hoped that these women were not currently on a quest and that she would have time enough to find out where she was -- is? -- and make a few purchases. And time enough to ask a sackful of questions. As the female paladin dismissed the women to return to - whereever they were going -- new curious phrases caught Sheva's attention. Felons? Friend Kas? Jarod Black? A fire? A money pouch was tossed to the woman standing next to her, evidently some sort of reward, almost causing Sheva's head to snap up in surprise. Almost. And yet these women didn't seem to be, or know about, bounty hunting. Still keeping her head down, she atempted to remember all the "references" she had heard and the new ones she was hearing. She mouthed all of the key phrases silently to herself while chin-to-chest, setting them in memory as quickly as possible.

Thank goodness Kitsaa had learned to stay in the cowl of her cloak when strangers were near, staying out of sight and unmoving, at least for the most part. She didn't really want to break her silence by explaining the gecko. She didn't know how mages were viewed here. Another question.

Okay, so they were released. The only thing to do, for now, was to follow these women, now companions-in-combat, to where they were evidently staying. Arriving there as quickly as they did was yet another surprise for Sheva. She thought she had arrived in some lone abode or building outside a populated area. Yet all of the past few minutes -- minutes? minutes! -- had evidently happened in the middle of a town with a relatively fast-acting constabulary.

On their late-night jaunt to the inn, Sheva ran the names and words she had heard through her mind again, while gently and affectionately stroking Kitsaa, who was riding her chest, his nose at her ear. She spoke, fatigue showing in her slow deliberate phrasing, "I'm sure the innkeeper isn't at the desk at all hours. Would you have a spare bed in a room already rented? If not, I imagine the innkeeper has a room with quick access to a spare bed I could use until morning. Then the official renting transaction thing can be done. I do hope we'll have time for at least a short chat tomorrow. I have oh, so many questions, but the shock of the past few sudden and frantic minutes is setting in on me. Weary to the bones, I am, as must you all be!."

“My name is Aelistae D’Vrann. I’m sorry for dragging you into this Sheva. But whoever you are, and wherever you came from, I’m glad you fought with us.”

Sheva looked up at the wman and smiled weakly, nodding, "I could do naught else. To be honest, I felt that if I didn't chose a side, I could or would be killed by one side -- or both sides. I hope I made the correct choice. I usually do ... usually ..." She trailed off, pensive, as she watched the dark one wipe blood from her sword, sheathe it, and set it to one side.

“We’re coming out! We were abducted by slavers. And we just fought to obtain our freedom,” the dark one shouted to someone Sheva couldn't see.

Sheva plucked at the gash in her loose-fitting leather shirt and the linen blouse she wore underneath it, absent-mindedly noting the gap in both materials. "Oh. New blouse and shirt? Or needle and thread? I go through more blouses ..." She was started out of her reverie by words of yet another voice, as if speaking to her:

"I am nothing like whatever that was." , said with forceful intensity. As Sheva looked toward this new voice, the speaker, a woman actually smiled at Sheva as she asked," "My name is Linnix. Linnix Wolfette ap Bye. Do you think you can stand? Are you alright?"

Sheva looked upward and smiled in return, "Stand? Yes, but I may need a little help." She grunted and hissed again as the pain of movement, even with aid, reminded her that she was not up to extended or strenuous efforts -- yet. Once standing, she moved toward her backpack and staff, slowly and stiffly. "I'll just gather my things as best I can while you check on your friends." But by this time the woman who had helped her stand was already doing just that. She then growled with renewed pain and dizziness as she instinctively bent at the waist to pick up her backpack. Reaching her staff, she bent at the knees, keeping her upper torso rigid and stiffly upright. She picked up only one end of the finely carved quarterstaff, using just her fingers. In this fashion, she then dragged the staff with her until she stood next to the dark elf warrior, where she dropped the staff and waited as well ...

Subject: Sheva

Sounds. Dim light from behind closed eyelids. Smells of blood and gore. A deep breath, with gratitude for the ability to do so. And from that effort there was PAIN !! The deep breath was cut short by the grunt the pain elicited from Sheva's gasping mouth. Biting her lower lip until the wave of pain subsided somewhat, and without opening her eyes -- yet -- she cried weakly, "Aaaah, Kitsaa! Where are you, my friend? We're not done with each other. No, not yet."

And other voices registered now:
"... and we need you. ...I need you ...”
"... drop your weapons, we have you surrounded! ..."
“... careful captain, there is an evil aura most foul in there ..."
" we will keep a watchful eye on you.”

With effort, Sheva opened her eyes to see a dark figure above her, kneeling over her, but not looking at her. The female dark elf with the bright hair was looking beyond her, at something else ... Sheva turned her own head in time to see a male figure step through a dark-rimmed portal of some kind to what seemed to be a place of fearsome waste and dread. His face seemed to show -- resignation? pleading?. Sheva wasn't sure. But she remembered a fleeting glimpse of him wreathed in dark fire and fighting like a dervish, or a berserker, with deadly accuracy and seeming to revel in the combat.

She was brought back to herself by the arrival of Kitsaa. Having skirted what pools of blood and entrails he could, and raising his body to clear what he could not avoid, he finally came to his companion and walked around her head before settling across her neck under her chin. He briefly nosed the wound on her chest and, deeming the smell of it distasteful, rested his head on her shoulder. This brief attention to her wound by her companion brought the burning sensation of the wound to the forefront of Sheva's attention for a moment or two. Beyond the mere pain of a blade-wound, healing or not, there was a burning sensation she knew to be acidic in nature, but not astrngent. A wicked weapon indeed was that which the sword-wielder used!

Her brief self-appraisal over, and feeling the soothing contact of her familiar at her neck, Sheva tried weakly to lever or prop herself up into a sitting position, at least. That would help determine if she would need help to stand. Her face contorted at the increase in pain caused by the effort and she hissed Time was not now for the questions she wanted to ask. Her arrival here, although inopportune for her, may hopefully have aided the others in some small way. She looked at the woman kneeling over her and quietly said, "I know where I wanted to be, and that is not here. But I am here, not knowing where here is. Because of that, I have neither the knowledge nor the ability to get where I was headed. I defer to your knowledge of our situation and location and will do as you ask and as I am able. I have questions. Oh! I have questions! As do you, I would think. But now is not the time for them, eh?"

She glanced at her feet. Almost as an after-thought, and without looking up, she said in an almost-whisper, " I'm Sheva. Arcsheva Redmane."

But it's one of her flaws. And this (being knocked unconcious) seems to happen every time she tries to bum-rush-surprise an opposing caster. She has done this only three times (four now), and she only does this when she is nearly out of spells or is at a loss initiative-wise and hurting. She tries to keep a Shocking Grasp in reserve for just such an eventuality.

For her, it's a knee-jerk reaction to flagging energies and feeling at a disadvantage. The first time she did it, she lost her first familiar, and a level she had just attained.

Its an "instinctive foolhardiness" (hi Int, avg Wis) as posted. One of these times, it just HAS to work -- just once! :-/

As she began her mad dash toward the faceless mage, Sheva began intoning the sormula for a Shocking Grasp to unleash on that spellcaster. Too late she realized that her headlong rush would take her far too close to the man wielding the big sword. Trepidation turned to horrror as she realized that she was about to take a blow that may have been meant for another. Even with all her skill, agility, and mobility, that which had helped to keep her alive until now, she knew she could not dodge this wicked, bloody blade. She would not have the opportunity to bring anything -- anything at all -- to bear to deflect that deadly weapon from its path.

As the blade bit into her chest, cutting long and cutting deep, she grunted loudly, again through teeth clenched in preparation for the blow. So intense was the pain and the burning that she passed out amost immediately, no time even for self-reprisal. Her knees buckled to deposit her in a heavy, ungainly heap on the floor of the cage. There shone a final glimmer of relief on her face as she fell, an expression unnoticed by the rest. Before blackness claimed her, a bright spark of relief that her dear Kitsaa was not riding in his usual place on her chest, under her chin. He would have been severed also by the crushing blow, yet another needless death attributable to her instictive foolhardiness ...

I'll post, as planned, and with the info given me, but i'm a little confused:

Kaelyn, your post reads, in part:

Quote: ... Sheva directed all her attention in motion on the Auctioneer ...

I take that to mean that you show me rushing the Camims***e, the one with the fachion (?). M previous post stated, in part:

Quote: Sheva immediately matched motion to voice for her next incantation, almost as a reflex, as she began running toward the faceless mage.

[Cast Shocking Grasp while rushing toward No-Face, to palm him in the chest (or grab a defensive arm) and light him up ... ]

Indicating the mage was my target. I understand that I would (may?) pass the auctioneer en route to the mage but, for the record, the Calims***e was not who I was rushing ...

Or did I misunderstand? I re-read it more than once ...

... the "--- well, unusual for her, anyway." reference was too subtle, because it is not how she usually does things. Sometimes people do knee-jerk actions based on impulse and, in retrospect, cuss at themselves later. Maybe if I explain that she is wrapped up in the moment, still working surprised herself and the character isn't thinking about the familiar (contact or not), having sent him to safety.

Kaelyn, maybe I should have mentioned in her character that she had just recently lost a familiar (tiny viper) to a sorcerer's hawk fmiliar ...

This character has melee experience, yes, and intelligence, yes, but what has made her interesting to play in the TT games she has been in is that "oops! I could have done better ..." conversations with herself (and others) after-the-fact. And she has dealt more than onde with the feeling of surprise from the familiar at not letting him "in on the fun". She doesn't do this every time she is in melee, but I like the reactions I get when I sometimes don't do the "standard fare", run-of-the-mill, What-everyone-else-does actions every time.

Orrrrr maybe I could have waited to do that until they got to know her better (?)

but with her current spell list (purposely leaving out the defensive spells for what was supposed to be a friendly visit) she is limited to her offensive spells as prepared. She is usually capable of standing back and delivering ranged touch spells, but she has lost too many hp for that now. Before she collapses, she intends to make an accounting for herself.

... and I'm counting on the Dodge/Mobility feat(s) to help me, since I can select at least one attack to dodge ...

To a certain extent, I purposely put her at a disadvantage for the challenge of starting with a mage that was only semi-prepared. And there is a method to my (seeming) madness ... but I can't give away all my secrets yet ...

Subject: Acid Shock (Sheva)

Her attention now focused on the caster with no facial features, Sheva's furrowed brow and intent visage were the only indication that she was expending any effort at all, even the effort of will. Almost gladly, she let the sphere of flame dissipate when the man with the greatsword found out he could out-maneuver it with speed. That would have allowed her next spell to flow that much more smoothly for it's use on the mage with the featureless face.

But it didn't happen that way.

Sheva watched with forboding as the pair of magical darts that No-face was able to unleash first streaked in her direction and struck her -- not with the force of weight, but with the force of jangling energy. PAIN! She pulled back her lips, clenched her teeth, and almost -- almost -- screamed through them. As many times as she had been hit with the eldritch bolts, Sheva never seemed to be able to prepare herself in time for the muscle-jolting shock of their impact, so swift were they. She couldn't dodge them. They never missed. The disruption to her nervous system was immediate, disrupting coordination and thought, and nearly caused her to falter and lose the spell she had intended to cast. Later, she would have time to wonder where the luck came from that allowed her to finish what she started. It was enough, for now, that she was able to complete the casting and send her own caustic, burning, seething missile at the other caster, the mage with no face. She allowed herself a brief, ever-so-brief, smile when it struck.

She had not expected to encounter an opposing force when all she intended to do was visit her mentor, so she hadn't prepared any defensive spells. His magical missiles had caught her off-guard, so she would show him the folly of his arrogance. Later, she would chastise herself for her own arrogance. For now, at the very least, she hoped she could suprise him with a highly unusual tactic -- well, unusual for her, anyway ... Knowing that the caster would have to deal with her caustic bolt for a few more seconds yet, Sheva immediately matched motion to voice for her next incantation, almost as a reflex, as she began running toward the faceless mage.

[Cast Shocking Grasp while rushing toward No-Face, to palm him in the chest (or grab a defensive arm) and light him up ... ]

[hp change noted]

Sheva watched in apprehension as the "conductor" of this chaos took the time to quaff something from a tube and quickly leave the cage area. He then appeared to lock the exit. She shifted her focus to put the Shere outside the cage with him and grinned briefly as the flaming orb made contact with him, eliciting a vocal reaction and a scowl. She then clamped down on her concentration as she saw flames erupt from his growling lips and jet toward her.

She took a quick step sideways (5') and leaned as much as possible, in attempt to avoid as much damage as she could. But she was still singed by the flames as they washed over her left side. Sheva was relieved to realize that, although struck and aching from the burns caused by the jet of flame, she was not incapacitated. She would tend to those burns later.

[Concentration check?]

[If check is successful or not needed]
Keeping her eyes on the breather of fire, she pushed the fiery globe against him yet again, hoping to set his clothing ablaze.

[If check is UNsuccessful]
Growling herself as she lost control and concentration, she pulled out of her component pouch an adder's stomach, stuffed with powdered rhubarb leaf and tied, then skewered it with a small dart she also brought forth from the pouch. Then she heard the sounds of music and a haunting melodic chant as they began to reach her. She turned her head to glance briefly at this new source, who seemed to be using a method she recognized from past association. But Sheva narrowed her eyes as she tiurned to face her intended target, the faceless one that seemed to be a caster as well. No-Face and the Music-Man seemed to be focusing on the pair of women nearest Sheva, both of whom were putting up a brave and effective fight. Sheva began the incantation to create an arrow of acid to direct at No-Face. Ever-willing to test her mettle spell-for-spell, she continued her incantation, rolling the small dart skewering the herp packet between her palms, and made to aim at the caster ...

[Melf's Acid Arrow for two rounds of contact]

[Regardless of Concentration Check]

Even through that concentration and the din surrounding her, Sheva heard a voice that seemed to be raised in supplication or prayer from one of the two women near her, a voice that contained a lilting quality. Still, she tried to maintain her concentration to keep her attacks effective and distract what ever opponent she chose, or keep that opponent concentrating on her. She knew, on some level, that she herself was toast if she was attacked, but would not yet take the time to cast a defensive spell. She had come in with the advantage of surprise and intended to use that advantage to its fullest extent.

I'm really looking forward to this game, the depth of the characters is amazing. On the CD point thing, I have a few questions:

1. Can you earn enough CD points to be resurrected? {covers her head and ducks flying objects]

2. One CD point per person per session/round of posts? As in: I can only give one CD point and have to decide who deserves it most, (or not give it at all), right? Ohhhhh, decisions, decisions!

3. Can the DM get CD points? I have seen some worthy posts from Kaelyn. They definitely help make the game.

{{Edit}} Disregard #3. Hummph! If the DM don't see fit to allow hisself pernts, then he don' get none. I be givven 'em to summun else. So there, you ... you ... you DM, you!
