Pressing her the balls of her feet into the ground, she stood up and looked towards the forest. The wolf gave her little space continually weaving between her legs. Her eyes narrowed as she felt a cool wind press upon her back ruffling her hair ever so lightly. After the air had stilled for a few minutes, she took a step nearly tumbling forward over the wolf. "Alright, I'm naming you Root." She stared down at the wolf who looked back at her in return.

Once Zau was sure her bag was secure and nothing was lost, she turned and walked towards the other three. "I'm not leaving," she said directing her voice towards Shepherd. Despite any limitation she may have with her ability, she vowed not to let that prevent her from trying to overcome it. She briefly met Shepherd’s gaze but found herself unable to look into his deep eyes for fear of the emotions that would be revealed.

Her eyes met Marie's and she gave the girl a reassuring nod. She knew all too well how it felt not to be able to trust anyone around or things that may look harmless but were far from it. All other thoughts forgotten, she took a few steps towards the familiar scent and feel of the forest. Root wasn't far off her heels and she kept glancing back to make sure he wouldn't step on her feet. Whatever it was that Shepherd had done, she'd never seen a wolf follow so closely before. Even a pack of wolves usually dispersed rather quickly. This one didn't seem like it was about to leave. She wondered if she encouraged it to stay by naming it. Oh well, she sighed. It's not like I'll be feeding it. She turned towards the wolf, "You do know that right? I'm not going to feed you..."

Root's ears perked and he gave a short bark and circled her. Zau looked over her shoulder and saw a few other wolves following the other members of the group as well. The rest of the pack waited not too far away and also still looking as if they had no intention to leave. She wished she could read their minds for just a few moments. It also made her wonder just who they were following; or if they were following all four of them with each wolf picking a favorite.
"In any case, we should be able to find a decent place to rest, if not sleep," she agreed. "There's a river maybe two miles to the north of here and a small variety of fruits and berries." Although eating meat did not bother her, she would never kill an animal for food. Even though she just bathed the night before, soaking in the river sounded like a very appealing thought. Perhaps even letting her thoughts drown in the water too.

Each step into the forest proved to be more welcoming than the last as the town’s aura got weaker. A grimace flashed across her expression when she thought of a town, not due to the people in the town, having such a nasty aura. Most town’s that she visited she wouldn’t mind going back to for a day or to spend the night but not this one. Even after the evil was eradicated the townspeople were free from their true fear, she still didn’t want to come within the length of a small forest of it. It was incomprehensible to her how those people still stayed there and let their children play.

Zau nodded watching as Bezmir stood. "You're welcome," she said quietly. Her ears perked as the soft tune floated around her. The wolf that had settled in her lap seemed to take notice of it as well and dropped its ears back. A smile forced its way upon her lips as she watched the one wolf playing with Bezmir. It meant no harm to him with its playful antics. A confused expression replaced the smile and she blinked wondering if she had just heard right. She heard Marie repeat the word and she sat on the ground blinking.

How could anyone think of food right after such a battle? The wolf nudged her unmoving hand begging her to continue petting it. Subconsciously she resumed stroking the wolf's fur shaking her head when offered the drink. It felt to her as if her stomach had withered away and nothing remained but empty churning space. Hesitantly she looked back to Marie and Shepherd. Wishing that she could be of more help, she lowered her gaze to the ground.

Even if she did have the right leaves, roots, and plants, Zau didn't think she had enough to fully heal Shepherd's wounds. Even so, she should have worked harder on finding answers sooner. If she had, and she still had come here, and when she had met up with her new found friends, she could have prevented any of them from being hurt. She should have! Unbeknown to her, she crushed a handful of grass.

Zau twisted around when she heard running footsteps. Her feet felt frozen to the ground as she realized what Bezmir was about to do. "Bezmir! No!" Normally calm and soft, her now loud and urgent plea was muffled by the snarling and angered wolves. She winced as they cut at his clothes and tore his skin. They were focused on him so it wouldn't be impossible for her to strike maybe one or two down. Could she do it without killing them though? She chewed on her lower lip as she considered her options. This was not the time to be hesitating but she had not expected either side to attack with such rashness. Stealing a glance towards Shepherd did nothing to clearer assess her options. Even though the wolves had been tainted and overcome by an evil presence, they still had their deadly instinct. Still, she made a promise and she intended to keep it. Taking a deep breath she began to raise her hand when all of a sudden, a few of the wolves glanced past her.

At first, Zau wasn't sure if she felt worry or surprise upon seeing Marie. After seeing her take down the wolf with ease, she felt more than surprised. She took a relieved breath and turned back towards the wolves who had given their attention to things other than Bezmir. Soon they would be free and then she could finally ask the questions she had been aching to know for more than a decade. That would have to wait as the battle had not yet ended. She shook her head and her eyes closed as she felt a surge of energy originating and collecting not far from where she stood.

Many spirits and different energies loomed in the air concentrating on the wolves and she felt Shepherd's presence rise close to where she was standing. It seemed all too quick that the wolves attacked him, though she watched not using her senses and not her eyes. It only seemed a few counts of a heart beat before the energy spinning around them retreated back to its original hosts. It was no more than four counts of a heart beat though much damage had been done. Silently Zau thanked the forest and all the creatures and opened her eyes to see the wolves staggering. They were confused, and not used to human contact, though they remained docile, watching her and each one of her companions. No, her friends. Bezmir sat in front of a few wolves while a few others sat in a circle off to her side.

When she looked over to see Shepherd, she realized she had taken a few steps towards the battle and was now a few paces from where she had originally stood. She heard but a mere whisper of their names as she saw Marie rush toward his side where he lay obviously weakened from the immense strain. A deep gash in his arm flowed endlessly staining the ground. Though still worrisome, the other wounds looked non-threatening. Guilt welled up inside her knowing that she should have seen the wolves coming to attack. Another whisper of her and Bezmir's name snapped her from dwelling too much on the few minute long battle. "Everything will be just fine," she said offering a small smile to her wounded friend. Despite the heavy guilt, something else weighed in her heart. Something that she would reassess after she was sure all wounds were healed.

Rushing to Bezmir's side, she shrugged her backpack off her shoulders and it landed with a thud next to his side. Plopping on her knees, she turned the bag upside down spilling its containments; a few ragged books, some pouches of leaves or herbs, a few strands of thick string, a piece of jewelry, and her dress. Moving the torn material off the wound for a better look, Zau winced seeing the extent of the damage. A few wolves held a concern look in their eyes but she ignored them and snatched a pouch from the pile of items. The pouch tour open easy enough spilling powdered leaves into her palm. She pressed her palms together over his leg and a liquid dripped rapidly onto the wound.

"I hope this doesn't hurt too terribly," she said and ripped the bottom of her dress into strips. Carefully she wrapped his thigh and tied it tightly above the wound hoping to stop the rest of the bleeding. It didn't appear to have hit any major blood vessels or nerves and for that she felt a tinge of relief. Half a dress worth of material strips had been tied around the wound to Zau's approval. Most bleeding had stopped and though there would probably be a scar, she was certain that it would heal alright. Tossing the small pouch aside, she picked up another and crushed a few leaves in her hand dripping the liquid onto the more minor wounds. It was the same liquid she had made upon first meeting the man of which she had plenty. She would need to make a point to find more of the herb that she had used on his leg though.

Figuring that it would take a few more minutes before he would even be able to try to walk, she took a breath and quickly collected her things back into her pack. One of the nearby wolves walked up to her and nuzzled her neck. Despite her smile, the weight on her heart remained demanding her attention. The wolf rest its head in her lap enjoying being scratched behind the ears and another one came to nuzzle Bezmir and then Shepherd. Zau knew it was their way of apologizing and asking for forgiveness. How could anyone resist even their pleading stares though?

"Are you able to walk?" she asked glancing at the other wounds making sure there weren't any more that needed immediate tending. A hot bath and a few drinks and tea would do them all good; for some reason, she could not bring herself to want to go back into the town. It was as if the town took on a life of its own and was daring them to come back and see what it could muster against them. Odd, she thought glancing back towards the edges of the road that entered the town.

Despite his build, Zau noticed how Shepherd's hand was light on her shoulder. At that point in time, it became clear just how deep bonds could be formed in such a short time. I will not let these men down, she thought as his hand dropped. It was odd to her how the weight of his hand still lingered on her shoulder. It had been so long since she allowed herself to be in close company, she forgot how many thoughts and feelings could be conveyed in a simple touch. She offered him a smile as light as a summer breeze shaped her lips and they entered the tall grassy field silently.

Instantly there was a slicing edge to an unmoving wind. She stopped, poised and alert. In the forest, she too could easily spot the forms racing towards them. A subtle change in the immediate air around them led her eyes to settle upon Shepherd and then back towards the approaching wolves. Some form of magic was being wielded, she was sure of it although she had not encountered a feeling quite like it. Her eyes followed his movements while he explained more about the wolves. At the mention of the man back in the ally, her brow arched and she recalled the sleeping figure whom she had thrown her coins. She paid him little attention more intent on catching up with her two companions.

Upon her first steps into the town she knew that there was something unusual going on. It hadn’t surprised her that the heavy feeling was more concentrated in areas with close contact such as the inn she had originally planned to spend the night staying at. Had she known that she would be ridding the town of the unnatural thing that plagued it though, she would have paid more attention to it to begin with. The one thing she hoped for now was that the sprite she was seeking, and the other mystic creatures that lived within the comfort of the forest, were safely hidden away from any danger. The sprite had known of the fears and dangers associated with the town and the forest but, if the three of them had stirred the “wolves” anger, then there was no telling if there would be any threat to otherwise unthreatened creatures and sprites. She would be damned if she allowed any harm to come upon any innocent souls while she had even the slightest chance to prevent it. Based upon his words, Shepherd felt the same.

"I do not know what comes but I will ask the forest and creatures for their aid," she said. "And you have my word that I will keep a close eye on Bezmir."

Zau turned as the earth lay claim to Shepherd's body in a protective embrace. To say she was surprised would be an understatement. It was true they each had their own abilities but Shepherd obviously knew the most about what they were about to face. Wondering and worrying was not going to help her in this situation so she forced the questions from her mind. Following the energy given off from where Shepherd lay with the earth, she caught a glimpse of a man at the edge of the field but paid him no more attention as she turned back to the woods. Bezmir was close, as were the wolves. She could hear his pleas and their paws pounding into the moist earth and grass. Time did not seem to be on anyone's side this night. Gritting her teeth, she closed her eyes and outstretched her hands . She took a deep cleansing breath to relax herself and a faint blue glow spread from her feet and entered into the forest spreading beyond the distant horizon.

I ask your aid, Spirits, Creatures, and Earth, in defending against black plague of evil and deceit. A whirling wind tugged her clothes and hair as the glow faded. Her eyes opened and her hands fell to her sides as she waited. Tiny speckles of light began to rise from the ground bouncing a few inches above the ground. Zau’s request had been answered and energy was manifesting from all in the forest; creatures, earth, water, trees. Anything that could lend its energy was doing so and she hoped that it would be enough to at least deter the wolves until Shepherd, perhaps with the help of Bezmir, could free the wolves and the town once and for all. She knew she wouldn’t have enough time , or the luxury, to look through her books that were tucked safely in her pack and she didn’t know if she would be able to properly conjure anything that would be of help- she hoped that she wouldn't even be forced to try. The quicker and more peaceful this ended, the faster she could tend to Bezmir’s wounds –which she could smell the blood the closer he became- and see the sprite.

Zau heard the echoing crack of wood and turned her head in a fluid motion. Neither her footsteps or her concentration had faltered as her mind comprehended the situation. Despite the obvious splinters and cuts, Bezmir had gotten up and continued running. She looked ahead without a second glance knowing that he would be fine. She had a few leaves left and they were plentiful in the forest if she didn't. He certainly was one of a kind. Just like Shepherd. It never seemed possible to meet two good men in one night let alone one place. The thought put a sly smile on her lips.

A few yards passed the town's border was the beginning of a field. There was no rush to reach the forest edge as they walked so she took the time to separate the scents whirling around the air; flowers, earth, a few stray scents of animals, and something sweet like honey. Her eyes closed though she still walked with precision. The air held a heavier feel to it and she wondered if it had to do with the thick brush ahead or if it was due to the so called wolves. Either way, the change in atmosphere was interesting enough.

Opening her eyes again, she looked over to the man at her side. He had a look of determination as if nothing else was on his mind but the task at hand. Zau, on the other hand, was enjoying the walk and not thinking too much as to why they were walking this way. To live in the future is the same as never living at all she thought. The present was what was in hand, not the past or future. After all, the future was never but a breath away.

[Sorry it's short. I'm visiting my family for a couple weeks so I won't be on that much.]

"We'll be waiting," she assured. With the last glance Bezmir gave them, Zau put her hand on her hip letting it almost slide back to her thigh. Was it an anxious feeling or curiosity that would cause him to hurry towards the forest? Either way, when he met up with them again, he would have the advantage of receiving information rather than obtaining it. There were many instances that Zau could recall where creatures, sometimes humans, had been killed simply because they rushed into a situation without any previous knowledge. She wouldn't allow that to happen though.

Even though she felt Shepherd’s gaze searching for answers to his questions, she did not falter in her stance. Based upon the words he spoke to her, there was a misunderstanding in actions. She smiled and chuckled quietly, "You don't have to ask; he's going to be our 'trump card'." She wasn't quite sure how yet, but, she was fairly sure it would work out that way. Even if it happened to be the simple act of underestimating each of what they had to offer on behalf of the "wolves". With the town so afraid, it was possible that these wolves believed they were undefeatable and arrogant.

On the other hand, if these wolves were used to fighting, they may be thrown off guard when shown peaceful intentions. It all depended on which hand they were dealt and the actions made by others. She trusted the two men and therefore would trust in their actions. With that, she turned on her heels and walked towards the forest without looking back at the town. "Hopefully this will not be the same kind of encounter as the town's people have had."

Her hair whipped at the air in front her face as she walked. The sand beneath her feet whirled in circles settling over her footprints concealing them from first glances. There was an air about her, not of authority, but of someone who had a purpose and would not give in until that purpose was fulfilled.

Subject: A rare helping hand

A silent exchange drifted between the three of them like a circling wind. Shepherd's thoughts were hidden by the few words he spoke and the calm expression he wore. On the other hand, subtle changes in the air around a person revealed a lot of what went unsaid. Shepherd admired Bezmir, that much was obvious. Zau mused on the idea that perhaps Shepherd saw a younger version of himself though she couldn't be sure on that one. He was also hesitant on company; mentally she had to laugh because she knew that Bezmir was not one to give up so easily. To Bezmir, having to travel alone would be like depriving a baby of mother's milk. Being alone for most of her life, it would be just as easy to slip back into enjoying the company of nature.

Zau abruptly ended her musings and whipped around to see the man running through the streets. As the moments passed, it felt as though the blood of the town was slowly draining leaving nothing but an empty shell. Her eyes narrowed slipping towards Shepherd. He wanted them to warn the town? Her gaze once again swept the streets. Somehow she didn't feel that was necessary even if she would have considered it. A few strands of hair fell loose as she shook her head; she would have considered it with one look into the two men's eyes. It was one man's duty and another's home. Most of all, it was two men she had taken a liking to. Before she could reach an ultimate decision, Bezmir had carried out the request with an exceptional result.

Instantly, she was drawn to the weaponry that Bezmir revealed. Simple yet effective - against humans. Something told her that these "wolves" were not of mortal nature although the flesh was still just that: if one could get close enough. The small blade concerned her only slightly because any man holding a weapon ran the risk of being overly confident. It was especially dangerous when one didn’t know exactly what they were up against. Just as she was about to voice her opinion, a question was asked that took her by slight surprise.

A frown tugged her lips downward when asked if she could fight. Instinctively her hands tightened the straps on her bag. Tattered and worn as it was, the bag wouldn’t break. If she lost it, well, that was just not something she would allow to happen. Her brow arched when Shepherd offered the alternative method to battle before her own answer could escape her lips. The curious sparkle returned to her eye as she looked to Shepherd. They had that philosophy on battle in common which was a rare thing to find. He met her gaze silently asking what she would do before asking the same of Bezmir. Zau took a soft step and turned towards the watchman and Bezmir, "Go." It was a quiet command but it held the weight of experience and wisdom. "We will meet later," she assured.

Turning back to Shepherd she gave a curt nod. "I shall go with you to the forest as that is my intent anyway." Was the sprite aware of these wolves too or did they simple coincide with neither getting in the way of the other? As she pondered the thought, her eyes gazed downward and it was then she remembered her outfit. “Maybe I should change quickly. This dress is only meant for towns,” she said as she slipped into an empty alley. She reached into her bag and pulled out her skirt and shirt and slipped into them before sliding the dress off from underneath. A mere half a minute had passed and she tucked the dress back into her bag as she emerged back into the light.

Zau was trying to keep off the topic of fighting. She was physically strong simply from her travels although what should be her strongest point was her weakest. It was not something she revealed to many though she would if the need arose. She was hoping that within the next few days, it would something she no longer had to concern herself with.

Subject: The simplest gift; a greatest treasure

It was said that a person's eyes revealed most about the soul. For Shepherd, conversation had stirred a few fragmented thoughts of the past, if not a memory long buried. Bittersweet times that had long since passed and Zau and Bezmir were a simple reminder. He also seemed to understand her past and the path she chose for the future. After she had asked her question, a battle of words seemed to be taking place as for which ones to use within his mind. Her curiosity increased as she listened to his answer. Very simple yet held the world. His words held a weight of kindness; the type that held so much power from being withheld for so long.

So then who was the man standing before her? She decided not to press anymore questions but let their stories unfold as needed. If it were meant to be known, it would be in time. "A permanent resident of the town no," She lightly shook her head. "I have only been here since a few hours before sundown and was planning to leave a few hours before dusk. The world is my home with no one place particularly visited more than another." She had always traveled along the most current path.

Each town she came across was new to her and held some form of disappointment when she found no one who could help her with her questions. She picked up a few treasures here and there in the towns which was mostly why she would visit them. Subconsciously she brought a hand to hold the strap of her bag. Among her traveling, mountains and plains were no obstacle but they held less things of interest; she loved the forest best.

She turned a little sharper than intended towards Bezmir when he mentioned a wolf. Narrow featured softened as Bezmir reminded her of a small child exploring the world with its mother for the first time. Unsure and yet so eager. A bond of true companionship had formed between the two men even if one had not been fully aware. A soft laugh faded from her lips as quickly as it had been heard. Bezmir and Shepherd each had a path that intertwined at this very moment allowing each to explore old feelings of friendship. The idea that perhaps they could all travel together, even for a time, was not one that she would allow to become a conscious thought. Hope led to disappointment but it didn't mean that the feelings weren't still there.

"What is this proverbial wolf of which you speak?" She asked bringing herself from her thoughts.

The excited tones in his voice made her wonder how long the townspeople had been bothered by the thought of the wolf. Being around animals on a daily basis, Zau couldn't quite understand why a wolf would roam even close to a town. They stayed in packs only hunting in order to stay alive in the cycle of nature and fighting only to protect themselves. Surely the townspeople did not travel the forest disrupting the balance. It would have been more than easy for her to pick up the presence of humans based on certain tracks they left. Her eyes traveled to the opposite side of the town where the forest began again. Was it from there that the wolves and humans were crossing each others' boundaries? Still, it was not her place to interfere with bonds shared by nature, even if they were disrupting balance.

An amused smile tugged her lips at Bezmir's display of attempted formalities. It was easy to experience his explained talents as she felt comfortable among the men. "Good evening," she replied with a small nod towards each. "And you're welcome." Even among Sheperd's more quiet approach to company, there was still a welcoming air about him.

Zau tilted her head in the slightest gesture of interest towards Bezmir though her eyes revealed more of just how intent she was listening. It amazed her how observant he was in just a short amount of time. Her eyes slid to Shepherd at the mention of his name and then back to Bezmir. She had never really considered the relationship she had with nature special; it was merely what she grew up with. As for her other "talent", she looked up and said, "Though I may have a certain gift, it is not much practiced." Normally she would not give any detail about her gift let alone show her power to any human.

"The moon is still high," she said looking towards the sky. "What's a little time with good men before dusk?" Though her gaze lowered, she was still looking off into the distance. "Judging by your bags, you were not planning to stay here for much longer. Where is it you were planning to go?" For as far as she could see, there was no open plains to travel to the next town. Noticing he didn't have much traveling gear with him, it would be unwise to travel the forest unless one had years of experience.

Her attention was turned to Shepherd when she spoke again, "You are traveling without a true destination, but with a purpose. What is it you are looking to find?" The curiosity behind her eyes gave them a faint blue glow. Sheperd seemed more knowledgeable when it came to traveling through unknown land. Perhaps it was the years of wisdom that was evident with his words and actions. She couldn't help the thought that perhaps their paths were somehow connected. Even if it were only this brief meeting, each would walk away with more than they could have expected.

For now, the present was a comfortable place for thoughts and words. With a future meeting scheduled with the sprite, there was no need to rush time the time that would still drift at its own pace.

From a formal meeting of two unacquainted men to a cheery and entertaining atmosphere. It was quite the scene that was played out before her. Two men both outcast from the town for one reason or another finding an easy friendship between each other. The very edges of her lips curled into a smile when the bard nearly fell over backwards. He didn't seem drunk; just enjoying being alive. Once again the other man's expression didn't change aside from a smile but his eyes lit up brighter than the moon settled in a black sky. It quickly became apparent to her that he had been among many crowds but without a true companion for a long time. His age was not reflected by his looks though there was vast knowledge behind the mask he wore.

There was a genuine connection as their energies were intertwined creating a unique feel. Unlike the mood of the inn, there was joy and innocence. A child's view of the world looking from the eyes of men. An untainted vision of what mattered most had always been from the child's perspective. No amount of money or goods could replace a laugh that ripped through the body from the heart of the soul.

Knives were drawn by the bard and her thoughts were once again on the two men. Zau listened to his story and found it amazing how something so simple as music could turn someone's whole life around. She wondered if the bard had always been searching for a place in which people truly appreciated his gifts. Perhaps the man, Sheperd was what he said his name was, had also been searching for something he had long lost; unlike herself. Zau had been for something she never had.

The bard juggled the knives amusingly until he slipped and a few drops of blood were absorbed into the ground. She knew they were curious about her and although it would add to their interest, she pulled out a few leaves from her bag and walked up to the bard. Zau took his bloody hand and turned it so it was on a slight angle that was just enough to let the blood drip.

The leaves easily crumpled in her fist and a thin stream of juice dripped onto the wound. Zau let the withered leaves fall from and then turned her hand palm up. A small amount of bandages appeared and she wrapped them tightly around his hand. A small stain of red appeared but the bleeding stopped at that. A small step back out of the shadows caused the moonlight to brightly reflect from her aqua eyes giving them a mysterious shimmer. White light diluted the color of her hair making it more platinum than blond. She held her hands in front of her and looked each man in the eye.

"My name is Zau." Soft spoken words yet they held the world to her.

Subject: An interesting show

Whether the bartender was drying a freshly washed glass or someone was taking a swig of ale, there had not been a movement that had gone unnoticed. She wasn't concerned, just watchful. Curious even. She finished her meal quietly and drank the last mouthful of her glass. The bartender wasted no time in clearing her spot leaving a little less of a barrier between them. Zau nodded at the bartender in nothing more than acknowledgment, though her gaze was directed over her shoulder at the few lingering eyes. Most looked away with either a sheepish look or as if their attention was directed elsewhere. One or two winked but she narrowed her eyes and turned away. Somewhat of an opposite reaction was given to a broad man sitting alone. It was apparent he was not from around this area based on the variety of grimaces. She noticed he was one of the few who had not had a look of lust.

Something was different about him though she merely accessed his aura before directing her attention straight ahead again. She was about to hop off the chair and go back to her room for a few hours sleep when another man entered the inn. Out of the corner of her eye, she noted that he was either a beggar or a bard. Curiosity returned and she she continued to watch the man pull out an instrument. The local crowd paid no mind beside the initial glance as the man started to play. It seemed that she and the man she had noticed before were the only ones listening though one could not tell by the expression on his face or body language. Zau could only guess based on the small changes in his aura as the other man started to play. A bard, she confirmed to herself. And a very good one at that. He didn't look to have a high status and yet each note seemed to emphasize the emotion behind each word. The song painted a beautiful set of pictures displayed for only the worthiest soul to view.

The last note faded and the atmosphere was broken as the man stood up and started towards the bar. He attracted looks from each set of eyes as he simply threw down a handful of coins in a generous gesture towards the bard. His expression remained masked though his eyes reflected much more than a simple emotion. Zau noticed a look of pure glee replaced the solemn expression the bard wore when he had first arrived. Confused expressions and gossip was shared among tables while the man walked out of the inn leaving no indication he would return. After a moment of internal debating, the bard followed; Zau's gaze followed as well. Lively chatter filled the small room and more drinks were ordered. While the bartender was busy filling mugs and men were absorbed in their conversation, Zau bent down and scooped up her bag that appeared beneath the chair unbeknown to anyone else.

For some reason, she felt no inclination to stay at the inn; it was as though the balance had been tipped.
A few looks and invitations were sent her way as she walked towards the door but she ignored them leaving her key on the desk. She swung her bag over her shoulder and was greeted by a burst of fresh air. The two men were not far off; though they were in the opposite direction she had been intending on going. The moon shone brightly in the early night so she had time before dusk. Her steps were light making little noise while she walked towards the closest exit of the town. A person, she couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman, slept in the shelter of an ally entrance. Without much thought, Zau reached into her pocket and tossed the coins into the person's hand and continued walking.

It was times like these that she wished she knew a little more about her intuition; how she was drawn to different people. Perhaps the girl from earlier would be able to answer some of her questions. If that girl had been the same forest sprite from her childhood, then it was more than likely she could have a few answers. On the other hand, the chance that she was one and the same seemed unlikely. It didn't matter. She had nothing to loose by talking to the men and nothing to loose by seeing the girl. Zau shook her head before her thoughts could wander to things that had been lost and things that she needed to find. At this current moment, her attention was on the two men. After that, she would find the girl. That was as far into the future as she cared to see.

Zau blinked at the song comment. This girl couldn't have been the sprite from that long ago. Could she? It was almost fifteen years ago since she had heard that particular song. On the other hand, she had had some odd re acquaintances throughout her travels. She mentally sighed and decided to not dwell on the question too much.

"I hadn't eaten yet because I came to see you first," She admitted. "The inn isn't too far from here so it's not a big concern." Zau glanced at the coins in her hands and then at the girl. She was about to decline when the girl stood up leaving her with a bemused expression. She honestly didn't need the coins either since she rarely had any use for them unless she stumbled upon a village or town. Even then she usually could get away with using her looks to gain a meal, sometimes a room. Surely there was someone in this town who could use the coins more than either of them; she would look before she left the town.

"Before dusk," Zau told the girl as she stood up taking a quick look at the windows. "Until then," She said giving a small wave.

She put the coins in a breast pocket and replayed their conversation as she walked. It made her realize just how much she lacked in sensing others abilities; something that should have came easy by now. A soft sigh slipped from her lips as she reentered the inn. She took a seat at the far end of the bar and ordered a plate and a glass of water. Her next meal would be of nature and whatever she could find.

She looked over her shoulder at the few men chatting and others who were simply indulging in their food. Based on the look on a few of their faces, they found this place a little too close; she found it to be claustrophobic as well. Despite the lack of personal space, she sat and ate what was placed in front of her trying to ignore the lustful, and occasional curious, look shot her way. She even noticed the bartender sneaking a look at her every so often even though she was sure he didn't like those not from the town much. She kept her gaze down and focused on trying to figure out what she was eating. She guessed steak, some green vegetables, and potatoes.

She shifted in her chair trying to move closer to the wall as she took a sip of her water. It tasted of minerals and left a slightly metallic aftertaste. It wasn't a welcome difference from the usual fresh spring water she drank out in the forests but it quenched her thirst just the same. A passing thought wondered if there was any entertainment after dark here. Despite the shadow of fatigue she felt, Zau had no intentions of attempting to sleep. Not yet anyway.

Zau nodded encouragingly noting how mature the girl seemed for her age. "What a pretty name," She complimented. "Just like you. I can't imagine how people could just walk by."

Which was true because she was very different from an ordinary child. Her hair, her intelligence, her sparkling eyes; a rarity indeed. Is that why people ignored her? Because she was different? Or was it because she was seemingly alone? Being alone, as far as humans logic, usually translated into being different in some aspect. Perhaps people ceased to acknowledge her due to quick judgments and irrational deductions. In any case, it wasn't Zau's nature to judge without a basis to do so. Even then she usually was around someone or something for a good amount of time before she formed a personal opinion.

"Hm," She said while adjusting to sit on the ground. "The reason I am here is because I had just came from a long trip through the forest. I was walking through the town and at first I saw you simply sitting here but as I neared, I heard your song. After that I decided to come back." She didn't add the fact that there was something about her that she was drawn to.

Zau laughed quietly thinking about how Marie reminded her of herself. Of course she wouldn't say this aloud; she never fully admitted to her past. "You know your song reminded me of a forest sprite's that I used to listen to many years ago." She took a small breath while letting a few memories float in the back of her mind before turning her attention back to the girl. "She had a very pretty voice just like you."

"Do you live here?" She asked motioning to the small house. Based on the stains from her worn clothes, Zau guessed that she had no real place to call home. Perhaps it was just that few people offered her shelter from time to time when it got cold. Not everyone could have a heart of stone in this town.

[Thanks. ^^ I look forward to a good RP here. ]

Her steps were small and lacked a specific direction as she walked through the town. So far she had not seen anything that remotely resembled an inn. The town was not nearly as large as it had appeared to her so in theory, she should have seen one by now. Nonetheless, every town had to have an inn for travelers or there would be very little trades to keep the town alive. A few men that stenched of ale laughed and bounced around the entrance to a bar and she held her bag tight to her chest as moved to avoid them. Few people paid any mind to the men so she figured they were far from having any harmful intentions. She noted where the bar was in case she could not find a place to rest for the night; at least there would be a meal to eat there.

Keeping one arm around her bag, the other hung loosely at her side. Although she had nothing that would be considered valuable to a thief, she was still wary of the people and cautious when it came to her belongings. Up ahead, she saw a girl sitting on the side of the road. As she neared, the little bowl full of coins reflected the light catching her attention. Why would a little girl be alone in a town? Shouldn't children be with their parents or playing with friends? It was none of her concern though so after briefly taking in the girls appearance, she tossed a coin into the bowl and continued through the town. The whisper of her song just barely reached her ears and it somehow reminded her of a forest sprite's song. Of course she had to admit that she hadn't seen a sprite in years.

The crowds of people began to look more like little clusters gathered around a common interest; usually indicating the edge of the town was soon approaching. She breathed a silent breath of relief when she saw a small sign swinging about four hundred paces ahead that read Blind Bard Tavern. It looked to be as old as the town but at least it was dry and up kept. She walked in and took in her surroundings; a bar, a few tables with various people, and a desk. The lady behind the desk looked up and nodded as she placed her bag on the counter. She pulled out a few coins from the bottom of the bag and exchanged them for a room key. The lady informed her that meals were served three times a day and it was thankfully included in the room price. Drinks were extra. She collected her bag and walked up the steps taking a second glance at the people enjoying food and beer.

Inside the room was a small table, a bed, and a washroom. The warm water quickly filled the tub with just enough room for her to fully submerge her body. Taking the soap from the small stand, she washed her hair and body instantly feeling refreshed. As she wrapped the thin towel around her and started to wash her clothes, the splotches of dirt reminded her of the little girl that she had seen earlier. She wrung her clothes and hung them to dry. Her only other outfit was a simple sundress that she slipped into and tied in the back. Her hair hung in damp loose ringlets as she bounced down the stairs leaving her belongings in the room. Her stomach protested to not having a bite to eat before entering the town once again but her mind was focusing on other matters.

Purposely walking down the main street, she was surprised to find she was glad the little girl was still there. This time as she walked the streets, there were a few people who had tried to sell her trinkets and such from their shops and stands but she politely declined. Once she was under the shade where the girl sat quietly, she knelt down on the ground and smiled. "Hi," She said softly. "I'm Zau. What's your name?"

She wasn't quite sure why she had decided to come back or what she expected of the child but, she was usually drawn to things for a reason. Perhaps that was one part of her abilities that wasn't flawed. Or maybe it was just her female intuition. Either way, her curiosity had gotten the better of her once again.

[Anyone can post at any time. ]

Dense brush littered the only visible trail through the humid forest. Droplets of mist gathered before sliding off leaves and petals. There were no animals scurrying around, no insects to be seen, and no end to the seemingly endless rows of trees and bushes. A rich smell of soil and greenery enveloped the air and stirred mildly as an occasional breeze blew quietly. Above the thick woven branches that created a canopy, the sun's light shone through a few open holes in the branches and dimly illuminated streaks in the midst. Every few feet, a family of vines would begin suffocating the trunk of a tree, depriving it of the nutrition it needed to live. Red and green leaves that sprouted from the vines fluttered silently as if to give a simple wave.

A silent sigh escaped the pale lips of a woman who walked silently along the trail. One could guess her to be no more than twenty two although nineteen at the youngest. Her golden blond hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail full of newly forming curls and wild strands from the mist. Her aqua eyes were bright though her expression held a shadow of fatigue. She wore a black cotton halter top that was tattered at the edges and thin from wear. A plain gray skirt hung from her hips ending mid thigh. Although it was thicker than the shirt, there were a few obvious pulls in the material and a few small tears. Black leather moccasins made her steps mostly silent unless a small stick snapped under her weight. The leather left a three inch fold above her ankles giving the feel they were something a jester might wear if they had a curled toe. Her grip tightened around the straps of her cloth backpack as a flimsy vine tangled around her foot almost as if it didn't want her to go farther. She kicked off the vine and continued down the narrowing path.

A few hundred feet away, a patch of green speckled with red caught her attention. She quickened her pace although upon closer inspection, the berries turned out to be of a poisonous variety. With her back turned from the bush, she adjusted her bag giving a glimpse of the strip raw skin underneath the straps. A distant thought in her mind registered that the cool mist gave a slight feeling of relief. The muscles in her stomach tightened as she became more aware of her surroundings hoping to find a quick snack. For a long stretch of time, the only colors visible besides the greens and browns of the plants and trees were a few patches of red leaves and the seldom white flowery weed. A thin stream of spring water trickled across the trail pooling in tiny puddles created by sticks and leaves. Not wanting to wander from the trail, she knelt down and sipped the cold water until her stomach was full; even if it only gave the illusion of subsiding hunger. The after taste of earth and leaves only added to the illusion in her mind as she stood up and took a deep breath.

Her body started to feel weary although her mind was alert. Ignoring the idea to sit and rest, her feet moved mechanically as though lulled by the soft moss that started growing in much thicker patches due to the nearby stream or river. The sunlight peaked and then started to fade giving an estimate time of early afternoon. Sometime later the forest started to once again brighten capturing her curiosity. Her eyes darted to and fro each direction and each step she took resulted in the forest thinning. She broke into a relaxed run hoping to find a break in the trees. What she found had her even more excited; in the distance was a patch of green meadow spotted with reds, blues, and yellows. Beyond that, she could just barley make out the fuzzy outline of the top of a small village. The air was lighter just a few steps out of the forest and she decided to finally take a rest. She dropped her book bag to the ground and stretched her back and arms. Her shoulders were blotchy and red from the straps and she took the time to enjoy the freedom from the weight. She pulled open the flap of the bag as she sat down and fished between the books that she carried for anything else that had monetary value for use in the town.

During her short rest, she dug out a battered necklace that had been picked up a few days prior. It should at least have enough value for a meal and a night at a cheap inn. The walk to the town seemed longer than the hike through the forest and the sweet scents of bakeries and restaurants was the first thing that her senses focused on. The streets were lively with trades and entertainers with their hats pooling for donations. Merchants with wagons walked up and down the sides advertising their products and services. Shops of all kinds had handmade wooden signs above their doors from shoe makers to blacksmiths. Few people traveled by horses around the town and the crowds opened to make a path for the horse to go by and then reunited in one fluid movement. Those who paid any attention to the newly arrived woman did not do so for long as they saw no nobility to her. She entered a small pawn shop and traded the necklace for a small sum as she expected and set off to find a cheap place to eat.
