Raif nods in agreement. He nods towards the dog Marga. "We will lend our aid. Let's get the wagons back ont their way so we can focus on the girl."

Subject: Watching...

Raif stops what he is doing, evidently everyone is watching the interplay with Allyn. He doesn't want to interrupt, but they have got to get moving. "These are questions that can wait," he says, wanting to get some attention of the broken man. "The first action we need to take is to find the girl. Finding out why won't get her back here any earlier."

He points back to the wagon. "Let's get this fixed so they can get on, then let's get after her."

Subject: Wagon Wheel...

Raif puts down his staff, heading towards the broken wagon. "If you are able to heal Marga, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I can look after him." He looks towards the remaining drovers. "Come on and lend a hand." He will bend his shoulder to the wagon, ready to aid in getting it fixed as quickly as possible so they can get the wagons moving and they can continue their search for the girl.

Subject: Bandits...(Edit)

Raif notes the symbol on the armor of the attackers, in the event he is ever to see it again. During the attack and the subsequent, as it appears, kidnapping of the daughter, he realizes they are still stuck in the middle of the road. Looking up to the moons, he gauges how much white moonlight they have left before having to camp. He turns back to the group.

"Let us camp here now. We can fix the wagon wheel while we send a force out to find the girl." He pets the slightly wounded dog next to him. "While Marga is a faithful defender of myself, I am still working on teaching how to track on a specific scent." he looks to the others of the group. "If there are some here who are expert trackers, I will travel with you." He looks to the merchant to see what his decision will be..

As Raif works his way through the brush with the deal guard, he replies back to the others. "Once we bring him back and speak to the father, I agree we need to find her. I am fairly certain he will demand it in fact."

Looking at the other hired guards here around the body, Raif jerks his head back the way they came. "Finding the girl is important, but so to will be guarding the others in the caravan. I will take his body back to the caravan. I don't think they will want to leave one of their own here. This may have been a distraction."

If no one objects, Raif will bend to lift the man over his shoulders, then with Marga at his side, will walk the body back to the waiting and unprotected caravan...

Raif sees what Heironymous is about to do and stops him, with a hand on his arm and a small shake of his head. "I am sorry my friend. He is beyond this world now. Unless your magics can pull back his spirit as well as mend his body, I would wager you might want to save your strength for other engagements." He pointed out the area. "I came from this direction, and his body was as you see know. Throat slit by a very sharp weapon, and his look told me he was surprised at that time of death. Perhaps someone able to cloak their body with darkness or invisibility? Also, there was no sign of the young girl." He looked about. "Has anyone else seen her?"

Raif looks up at the others. "He was surprised. Whatever did this came up from behind, or looked like a friend possibly." Raif carefully closed the man's eyes, as he came over to Marga. "Whoever did this is still out there."

Raif immediately runs after Marga, his staff held at the ready, easily running through the undergrowth as if it were a game trail. He quickly disappears into the forest, following the trail of the gigantic dog...

Subject: Raif (edit)

Raif walks by the wagon, sheathing his scimitar and holding his staff as he looked confused that when last he saw the wheel. He was sure that the broken wheel was taken off, but there it is, still broken but on the axle. His confusion is pushed aside at the shout from the woods. He runs between the wagons, into the woods, the bleeding massive dog beside him. As he breaks through the trees and brush without impediment, he mutters under his breath. The staff in his hands glows slightly. (OOC: Casting shillelagh on staff)

Subject: Raif responds...

While the young man is still very suspicious about the now magically fixed wagon, the missing woman is now the top priority. Since he was watching the one side of the road while fighting the bridands, that leaves the other side where she might have been taken to. He calls Marga to his side as he leaves up into the trees.

(OOC - If he hears the yelling, he will run in that direction, otherwise he will begin to search for the missing daughter.)

Subject: Raif...

Raif, slightly embarrassed at the geting caught within his own spell, works to cut himself and Marga free of the entangling vines, and after a few minutes, the spell will fade away, the roots and grasses and shrubbery returning to their previously still state. He bends to examine Marga's wound, speaking gently to the creature as he carefully removes the arrow. He cleans the cut, getting rid of any dirt or grasses in it, then looks back towards the wagon.

"Is it my imagination, or has something happened to that wagon?"

Subject: And one bites the dust... then another. Only two remain. - Raif

The young man turns, breathing heavy. There is a vicious gleam in his eye for a moment as he is covering in the spurting blood of the fallen brigand. He shakes himself, breathing heavy, then turns back towards the massive dog, working to pull him free of the vines and roots slashing about. "I've told you a thousand times about this..." he mutters under his breath as he pulls back hard on the dog, attempting to free it out of the range of the spell...

The young druid viciously slices at the brigand, hoping to dispatch him so he can turn his attention towards the remaining attackers.

Subject: It Begins... Raif

The wound on Marga pains Raif as if he himself feels it, but the stalwart hound simply snaps at the arrow before turning back to face the brigands. With the two trapped, Raif will attack, drawing a scimitar from his side, slashing visciously at the trapped attacker. Marga, trained to attack along with Raif, will attack the same brigand.

(ooc: attacks with scimitar, d20+5 attack, 1d6+2 dm,
Marga attack: d20+3 attack, 1d6+3 bite damage)

The young man turns to the forest with a snarl that matches the hound's. He calls out loudly in a tongue that sounds ancient and guttural, suddenly, the plants, brush, and seemingly the roots themselves come to life, wrapping around and among the incoming attackers.

(ooc: Casting Entangle. Just realized the dynamic of the scene. Where should we post ooc explanations for things like this? This thread or Q/A?)

Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins
Subject: Raif...

Raif nodded in response the elven huntress's words. He had deep respect for the elves and how they helped him. While he knew that all of the peoples of the world ran the gamut from selfless to selfish, he always took the time to listen closely to what the elves spoke of. Their long lives sometimes gave them valuable insight that he knew he may need to someday draw upon on this soul searching journey of his.

"No, I haven't," he stated in response to Heironymus's question. He gave a small smile, the burn on the left side of his cheek and neck keeping the action stilted and stiff. "But I look forward to learing what I can of it."

Raif watches as the elven woman gracefully mounts her steed, the huge brute of a dog watching the horse come closer with intense curiousity. The dappled black and brown fur shivers as the dog gives a heroic sneeze and shakes his body, bits of leaves and dew flying off. He turns his head suddenly, leaping off into the nearby brush. A small bird explodes from its hiding place as the massive animal watches it launch skyward with an almost forlorn look on its face, then it continues its eager exploration of the area.

The young man turns back towards the other guard. "I'm going to move towards the head of the group here. I don't want to tell you your business, but if I were of a mind to make a snatch at some ripe plunder, now would be the time to do it. If you can set a watch here, I'll take the other end." He walks towards the front of the small caravan, the large dog stopping its exploration and loping quickly to catch up. Raif pauses for a moment to call back over his shoulder. "And it was nice meeting you Heironymus."

I think several of us have played in past campaigns where long distance travel (and carrying copious amounts of gear) were eased by having a horse. That and the saddlebag used to the poor man's bag of holding if the DM wasn't paying attention....

The next person to speak is a young man in finely tailored clothing. The dark black and green tunic and breeches are finished off with a pair of polished boots. The man has angular and handsome features, his black hair cropped short and his eyes a brilliant green, and his aquiline nose along with his half-lidded eyes lend a slight air of arrogance to his demeanor.

He bows his head slightly, his thumbs hooked over the wide scabbard belt around his waist. "And I am Uriel. swordsman and a practioner of Pact magic." His voice has a gravelly edge to it, almost like a road weary story-teller, with an enchanting cadence to it. The voice belies his age, as if it doesn't quite belong. "If you need a face for this group, someone to negotiate on your behalf," he looks over the other members of this fledgling group with a raised eyebrow before turning his head back to the man before the throne, "then I'm your man."

Subject: Raif Trilorn

One of the men hired to guard the wagons can be seen along the sides of the road, among the brambles and fallen logs deep drifts of fallen leaves. He walks with an easy grace among the detritus, his way seemingly unimpaired by the undergrowth as he keeps along side the caravan. His cloak is tied in a bundle along his pack, his bare arms under the old-looking leathery armor lean with muscle.

His hair hangs long and unevenly cut along his shoulders, and on occasion as he moves, it stirs, revealing an older puckered burn scar that covers his neck and continues down into his rough spun shirt and up past where can easily be seen. The young man already has a weathered appearance, his skin a deep tan from years spent outdoors, and the hand gripping the heavy staff he uses as a walking stick is thick with callouses.

Trotting beside him in a immense dog. It neck and shoulders easily come up above the man's waist. Its coat is matted along the belly and legs from the dew and dirt, and it run/walks with an easy lope. The dog's snout is almost perpetually digging among the branches and undergrowth excitedly searching out scents. Ever so often, as the man chews on a bit of jerky, he will toss a small bit, which the animal snaps up in midair with a practiced ease.

At the sound of the break, the man stops. He looks outward among the trees and brush for a few moments before walking towards the fallen wagon.

Seeing some of the other hired guardsmen, he gives a quiet nod as he pulls from his waterskin. He seems to think about something for a moment before tossing it in a friendly manner to one of the other guardsmen. "I'm Raif." He turns his eyes back to the woods, scanning again while the drivers heave at the wagon. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to know who I may have to trust to watch my back out here..."
