Sorry, Gboy... I've been trying to carve out some time to post but I've had demands at home (sick baby for starters)... oh look... she's fussing again...
Don't get me wrong... I love her.... I just hate ear infections!
Will try to post tomorrow. Would love to hear a reply from the rest of the gang regarding the ideas above, though.

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: So...
what's up here, people?
I have failed to update yet... I see everyone else has too.
Is this the "hard" part of PbP RPGs? Normally, around the table the players would look at one another and someone would say, "So... how are we going to play this?" And then we'd come up with a plan.
Would it be better for one of us to be considered the "leader" of the group to make executive decisions about what we're doing when we're not in the middle of an encounter in order to help speed things along?
I'm not really looking for the above role, but I will take it if it means keeping the game going.
Is there another way? Just post our intentions/ideas here on the Q/A Board for discussion?
Here's my ideas for getting in:
1) You three pretend your sailors of some ship (we listen in to find out a name of one) and my character plays the part of your wench. We find a bar/inn in town and bunker down, review what we know about the various targets and make a plan.
2) We all pretend to be mercenaries looking for work in Greyhawk. Continue with the second half of #1.
3) We approach the gate separately, with different reasons for coming into Greyhawk. (Mercenary, Sailor, Candlestick Maker, etc) And then continue with the second part of #1.
How would you boys like to approach the gates?
Gboy, I will post tomorrow night regardless.

I've got a crazy week a head of me. I likely won't post before Monday night, but assume that Jinnie is fine with the arrangement. I'll try to post something up between Monday and Saturday.

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: One last question
I am still not sure of the significance of Volke. Who is he?
Also, let me state that in regards to the Greyhawk campaign world, I am completely clueless. I have never played within the setting.
Thanks, gboy! Hope you feel better soon!

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: I've posted up a bit
I thought about asking the "which order" question too, but I imagined Volke saying something like "whatever you think would be best... you're the professional!" You could try and see what happens... any hints from the DM are always appreciated, right?
Anyway, I posted a few questions up:
Where and how will we be inserted into the city?
What's the time frame we're working with?
What proof does he require?
And how and how much are we getting paid?
Any other questions we should ask?

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Subject: Quick questions...
Jinnie reviewed the list of names found on the scroll. Quite the ensemble, she thought though her face remained placid.
She looked briefly around at her new "family" as they also examined their list of marks, see if they gave away any of their thoughts or feelings.
When all had seen the list and none of the men spoke up, Jinnie turned to Volke. "I have a few questions. How and where in the city is Shensing inserting us? How much time do we have to complete the list? What proof will satisfy you that we've made the kills?"
She paused for a moment before adding with a smile, "And, of course, you haven't said how and how much you will be compensating us for completing this project."

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: Checking in
Hey! Crazy week here at work. Just thought I'd check in as I'm hoping to post up tonight.
Gboy, are we to expect a PM from you regarding "special knowledge" we have regarding Greyhawk and "the list"? Or should we post with what you have provided for us?
Unless someone else has done so already (haven't checked the game thread yet), I imagine my post to be more of a follow up (like, "So... what's the compensation package look like?") rather than a move forward kind of post.
Anyway, let me know if I should wait for the PM before I post.

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: Posting and Questions and Skill Checks
1) Nice update
2) Who is Volke? Does Jinnie know him or know about him? If yes, what does she know?
3) Can someone else post first? It wouldn't be Jinnie's style to pipe up first (unless it was a solo mission) and ask questions about compensation and such.
4) Gboy, do you handle all the dice rolls? Can I get a Knowledge [Local] check on the names on the sheet PMed to me?
Thanks

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Subject: First to post
Greyhawk
It had been almost a year since Jinnie had left her hometown. Her last job there had been a set-up meant to take out her partner... her mentor. The bastards had succeeded, and Jinnie, feeling as though none of their safehouses were safe anymore, fled into the night.
The last eleven months had been full enough. Jinnie had taken on a new persona – an half-elven woman named Miriel with some skill with the blade – and hired herself out as a mercenary for a couple of months, gaining Miriel some contacts and some cred. Soon, she was back at it, working the shadows. She had just finished an information gathering, “kill-and-switch” stint when the man with letter had come to her.
That was about a fortnight ago.
And now, here she was, standing in the presence of Volke, gathering around with others like herself. She looked into the faces of the other two men currently present, trying to read all she could without giving away anything. In her mind, she was laughing at the awkward silence their host had caused. What shall we say? “Hi, my name is Jinnie and I like to kill people.”?!?
Jinnie was still using her “Miriel” persona. As such, she was dressed with black leather knee-high boots, tight brown leather breeches, a dark red chemise over her mithral shirt over a white undershirt, and a velvety soft red-brown hooded cloak trimmed with fox fur. At her side she carried a rapier and slung over her shoulder was her travelling pack. She stood roughly five and a half feet tall, slender and graceful. Her blue eyes were lively, peeking out from behind wisps of silvery-blond bangs, with the rest of her hair kept up in a loose bun. Though not exceptional beautiful, most would consider her “easy on the eyes.”
“People call me Miriel,” Jinnie began. “Information gathering and infiltration are what I do best.”

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: One more question...
Is it possible for my character to be excused from choosing one of the prestige classes listed in the recruitment?
If so, then the options I'm looking at are:
Changeling Beguiler 8
Changeling Rogue 2 / Beguiler 6
or Changeling Beguiler 5 / Mindbender 1 / Beguiler +2
Let me know.

Topic: Assassin Campaign (redux) Q&A Subject: Where I'm at...
Sorry Gboy (and company),
I know I keep saying that I'm going to get something in and I haven't yet... sorry for breaking my promises. I hope you can count on me better in the future.
I am still very interested in this game. I've scrapped the Half-Ogre idea, though, as it just wasn't coming for me.
I am currently trying to decide which path to take. I have two thoughts:
1) A beguiler. Currently, I am toying with a Changeling Beguiler 6 / Mindbender 1 / Assassin 1 with Persona Immersion, Quick Change, and Mindsight as his feats. However, this will make a character who's not really great a killing people. He can infiltrate places, and pretend to be other people, and gather information like nobody's business... but his base BAB is +3, and most of his spells are not direct damage. Gboy, would a character like this fit into the game, or would he just get in the way?
2) A more "typical" assassin. One of the following options...
-- Either Rogue 4 / Swashbuckler 3 / Assassin 1
-- Or Rogue 2 / Fighter 2 / Swashbuckler 1 / Assassin 2 / with Master Thrower 1 or Dervish 1 to finish the build.
Both builds here would be two-weapon finesse fighters, with the Master Thrower build more of a mix between melee and ranged attacks.
Option #2 makes all the characters in the party pretty similar in their abilities (i.e. similar BAB and skills), but at least the character should be able to hold his own.
Thoughts? (specifically, Gboy)
Also, another question: will the party have known each other from previous work together? Are we an already existing team? Or are we more like independent "contractors" which the NPC is looking to hire?
Thanks!

I'll take on any role. Are the soldier-types all supposed to be male? (I sort of got that sense from the recruitment) If so, I'd be interested in the female role you mentioned. If not, I have a strong female captain character in mind, though I could play a private too. Whatever... I'm interested in playing. Let me know which role you'd prefer. Thanks!
