Subject: introductions

I'd like to repeat my request for character introductions over on the Q&A discussion. Thanks.

Topic: Realms of Twilight Demo
Subject: Shenek, Female Gnome Burglar

Shenek had entered without saying anything and had immediately slumped into a chair. Now her eyes took in every feature of the box in Lauran's hands. Her own hands were as usual withdrawn into her sleeves. Now, unseen, her fingers twitched. There was thiefly lore that claimed that one could learn to trace a magical ward as if it were a knot, and therefor undo it. A preposterous idea, to be sure, but how could she know it wouldn't work unless she had an opportunity to try? She broke out of that trian of thought as the box was put away, checked yet again to make sure there was a visual path between her and the door, and began to consider the situation.

A large square of white apeared in her mind. She placed small objects on it-- pyramid, walls, soldiers. A dark patch stretched out towards the east, representing the Wastelands. A green arrow blinked over the carved wooden block that was a perfect copy of Lauren's house, including portions of the roof not visible from the ground. A red arrow blinked over the word "Bevaris" at the far edge.

Problem: get from here to there. No, get the object in their trust from here to there, that was the empire's priority. Obstacles? Dark misty shapes hovered above the Wastelands. Grinning, jointed wooden dolls crouched in hollows, their daggers dripping. Shenek frowned and the dolls shrank-- right, not regular humans, but those pesky mini humans, sometimes called hobbits or halflings. Except these so called "darklings" weren't just sly and tricksy, they were reported to be a deadly threat that daunted even the mighty illurian military. Normally that would amuse her, she had little love for the empire that had taken several years of her life merely for giving some spoiled fat cats an excuse to buy more shiney geegaws. But she also worked for that empire, so just now the darklings were in her way.

So, think of it as crossing a really big yard. With a hostile gang already in place and some seriously scary guard dogs.

She blinked. The model retreated as she focused on the room around her. She stood up and addressed the others without preamble.

"A wagon would only slow us down and increase the chance of detection. We need to evade as much as possible and we need to be able to keep moving even if we have to fight. If we are forced to stop to fight we risk being surrounded. But to plan a route we need to take advantage of the terrain. How much do we know about it?"

Then just as abruptly she sat down again. Then seeing the bottle that Lauren was holding she accepted a glass of wine with a grunt that might have been a thank you.

Subject: Shenek, Female Gnome Burglar

Physically, Shenek is gaunt and somewhat weather beaten.

Emotionally, she seems to exude a miasma of quiet bitterness. She's often withdrawn and can sit motionless for hours, huddled tight as if trying to withdraw inside herself. She sleeps on a simple cot wedged into a corner, with the words "Never trust a gnome, especially if you are one" scrawled in agnry letters on the nearby wall. And she does show a strange antipathy towards others of her own species. Although her skillset pegs her as a rogue with a specialty in burglary, she scorns such terms. "I am a thief", she declares, "no need to make it sound prettier". She seems obsessed with the idea of captivity and escape. She's always on the lookout for any expert at such things. How do you open a magically warded lock? she asks of them. How can you counter spells of binding or control? Although cynical about stories of super thieves who could defeat any magical challenge thorugh sheer willpower and subtle skill, she studies them anyway.

In groups, even with her comrades, she is tacturn and seldom smiles. The only thing that seems to get her excited is the prospect of a job, especially the planning part.

Subject: character roll call, please

Can we get a quick round of intros? Since our characters already know each other, we should say what everyone would have eventually figured out, in addition to what our characters openly let on about themselves. Also, when posting a move, i think it would help if everyone identified their character each time. I'm probably not theonly one who can't always remember.

Thanks.

Only thing i didn't get was the gray wisp coming from Aranion's mouth. Is that just to show that he is getting cold or is he also losing some intangible, as often happens when unfriendly undeads grap you?

I have resubmitted it. The image is 43x64. I have entitled it "Weary Veteran". It's a middle aged fighter leaning against a wall.

I'm not asking for special treatment, i just wanted to know how it works.

But if my avatar gets rejected, i'd like to know it and i'd like to know why.

Thing is, i really don't like to use a public image for an avatar. And the image i normally use is specific to me (a dr pepper logo with dice for the 10, 2 and 4) so i don't want to submit it where other people might end up using it.

So as a compromise, i'm offering an old character drawing, suitably cropped and reduced. It suits me, but i wouldn't care all that much if someone else were to use it.

So until it gets accepted, i don't have an avatar. And if it's rejected, i'd appreciate knowing asap, so i can try to come up with something else.

How long does it take to get a notice of whether or not a new avatar has been accepted?

Topic: The Guard
Subject: caravan guards and sellswords?

You mean the people that usually get slaughtered by the adventurers in pursuit of their quest? Or who get slaughtered by someone else before the game starts so that their horrible and mysterious deaths can be the plot hook to get the adventure started?

Sure, i'll take a stab at it.
