Subject: Jason -- Under Pressure

Jason sat at the Comm station gazing out at the black as Destiny broke atmo. “By all the gods that is beauty in all its glory,” Jason thought to himself as the last vestiges of the Atmo flames vanished from Destiny and she broke into the black. As she did the midnight black velvet back drop glistening with shining stars and glowing planets that was the verse was revealed.

Suddenly, the sensors light up and Tess flicked the switches to put the proximity detector up on a side screen. There was an alliance cruiser coming up from behind, matching speed.

“Tess, what have you got on them?” Jason asked in a cool if clipped manner, “I cleared us through port control…so there shouldn’t be a problem,” Turning to catch the Captain’s eye, Jason spoke up again, “A suggestion Cap, I think we should just stick to the flight plan as long as we don’t give them a reason to stop us we should be fine,” Jason paused to take a breath, “Though, I think we should hit our scheduled burn as soon as it comes time. No reason to wait around on the chwen nien mohn to think up an excuse to stop us. Of course, it might not hurt to have Destiny setup for a full burn JIC,” Just as he finished speaking the doc stuck her head into the room.

“She sure is a looker for an older woman,” Jason thought as the Doc stuck her head into the room, “Sure does make it easier to lose at cards, when you’re losing to the ladies on this crew.”

"Umm Guys....I think I found something that you need to see. Might want to call Grace as well, we'll need her," Doc Young announced.

“D’un Yi Shia doc,” Jason said standing, “The cap, and Tess are a bit occupied at the moment, but I can come give you a hand,” as he made this statement he looked to Jon for approval after all it is his boat, “Besides, if we need more help we can always grab Ken on our way,” As he finished Jason waited on Jon’s decision before proceeding.

Subject: To Burn or not burn that is the question...

I doubt that it's necessary to run just yet. Jason got clearance from the appropriate parties before we left port and the last we 'heard' the feds weren't interested in us. That said...I don't think that laying in our course and setting out as per our 'flight plan' with out lolly gagging would be a bad idea and maybe we should have Destiny setup for full burn on demand JIC (Just in Case)

Another thought,

Jason would probably be the best choice to head off the bridge and go with the Doc..that way all the working personnel on the boat are where they need to be...If I need help I can always holler at Ken.

So....I ended up getting lightly inspired and so had to post. I hope that it wasn't premature. If needed I can always go back and edit. Just let me know.

Merci,

Al,

Just for my own edification, Jason will be 'reading' those that he has interaction with that aren't ship's crew...I just want to make sure that we get off this rock without further complications.

Crew,

Hey guys, I thought that I share this one....so you know how Jason got Norm to increase our payment for covering the taxes and tariff's on the wine...turns out they were already covered...BONUS!!

Subject: Jason -- The face is headed for space!

“After dark…more like after midnight!” Jason mentally groused about Norm’s delivery time, “Then again, this job does get us off this gorram rock and back into the black.”

"So! We are good? Oh yeah! Paperwork right! Got to be paperwork! Where would we be without the forms and papers to give to duty officials. Don't lose those right! You need to show the officials on Osiris right? right? Oh yeah, and the payment." He pulls out a leather bag and hands it to the Captain. Inside are 12 bars of platinum all stamped with 250 credits and with official authentication.

Jason’s smile never slips as he speaks with Norman about the final details of the delivery, “Thanks for makin sure all the paper work got here before we left Norm, I’ll take care of that.” Jason takes the bundle of forms and tucks it into the inside pocket of his jacket.

After counting the money Jon grabbed Norms hand and shook it firmly. “Been good doing business with ya, your wine will be the hit of the party. Well we better be getting secured, times a wastin’.”

"Okay! I'm outta here. Got grapes to grow right!. Remember, 9 days hence though right? So no stops right!" Norm says as you close the hatch and make ready to head out into the Black.

“All secure here… ready to break atmo whenever you're ready Captain.” Ken’s voice crackled over the intercom.

Jon turned to Jason,” Call the Port and get us our clearances to break atmo.”

“I’m already on it Captain,” Jason replied and headed to the bridge comm station to make the appropriate calls. “We, should be clear to break atmo within the next few minutes.”

Hustling to the bridge Jason heard Jon’s voice over the ships intercom, “Ok folks make ready…… Tess as soon as Jason gets clearance put your loving touch to the helm and dance our lady out of here. ….Grace, TLC them engines, we gotta beat this deadline, could mean some good references from this bigwig if we help him WOW his guests ……Doc, keep up on Pricilla’s condition, I hate leaving her…Out!

“Huh! Who’d have thought that Jon would have a soft spot for a passenger?” Jason thought as he walked onto the bridge and sat at the comm station. He powered it up and set it to the standard port authority channel and went about politely requesting clearance for Destiny to break atmo and leave the planet.

“It’s about time we got off this rock and back to work,” Jason thought with a slight smile, “Besides, with the Baron’s party I should be able to find us one or two more contacts and perhaps another job after this one…it sure would be nice to have regular work.”

Jason watch with an amused smile as Grace walked away to look in on her precious engines. The girl may be a might twitchy but she’s a Jing Chai mech He shrugged and headed for the bridge. I’ll go make that wave real fast and then send a short burst to Tess and the Cap to let them know if the job’s on the level…Then maybe we can get off this rock…on the bright side at least I didn’t get the impression that Chwen Joo Nien Mohn ‘captain’ and his crew were here for us…I wonder what or who they are here for…none of my business… As Jason reached the bridge he sat down and powered up the communications system and sent the outbound wave to Osiris.

((OOC: Jason will make the call send/take the heads-up to Tess and Jon.))

Hey everybody,

Just thought that I'd drop in and say...WOOOHOOOO!!! Summer semester is officially over and I am actually going to get to be around a bit more. I'll try to get another post up in the next day or two. Sounds as though we've got a couple of new players and I for one am excited that we're going to continue.

MMV,

Crap....I really was hoping to use the most secure console on the boat for that call...I don't think that we want the Fed's to know that we hooked-up with a cargo outbound from this rock....so, Jason will just have to see if he can get Grace to send the wave herself...that way it can't be tracked and is done below radar...

Subject: Jason - Let's get to work and get off this rock!

As Jason walked away from the cantina, he contemplated the best way to ask the question to the contact on the other end of the deal. Walking with only partial attention to his surroundings he snapped back into focus as the ‘Captain’ of the ASREV the group was approaching spoke up with a question.

“Excuse me? Are you part of the crew to the ship there - Destiny? I’d like to speak to the Captain?” The lady marshal flashed a flirty smirk and a smile at Jason who responded in kind and added a wink. The other marshal remaining merely nodded politely and looked around as if he expected to be attacked at any moment. Jason was about to respond when Ken spoke up.

“Yeah….” Ken said straightening himself as he looked over the Marshalls “that is our ship… the Captain is inside… come on I’ll show ya.” As Ken led the marshals into the local bar Jason turned and continued on his way back to Destiny. As he entered the ship with grace he spoke up for the first time since leaving the bar.

“Grace, I know that you have things that you’re going to be checking on at your source box…while you’re at it would be so kind as to look into Norm Sellers involvement with the Tong and check into this ASREV’s timely arrival to sniff around at our heels? Off the ‘record’ so to speak of course,” Jason waited patiently for an answer from Grace, "Oh and would you mind if I made that quick call to Osiris to make sure the deal is solid?" While he waited he turned and looked at Brian and nodded toward the galley letting Brian know he would meet him there in a minute to discuss the ship’s upcoming trip to Osiris.

((OOC: Jason will hopefully get a positive response from Grace and then will proceed to the galley for the conversation w/Brian.))

Subject: Vicente - Burning Down the House

The path cleared and the bar lifted, the doors were thrown open to the cool clean night air, Vicente watched silently as Atharam started hustling people out of inn. The woman had already found her way out via the window and the man with the wolf had also removed himself from the inn. His eyes widened as he watched Henrik carry the body of their summoner from the burning building.

Shrugging mentally, Vicente turned to the hallway of the burning building to see if the man that had gone that way had returned from his foray and heard the sound of horse walking out of the inn. Seeing no sign of him, Vicente prepared himself to follow the hall and retrieve the man who had scouted for him. Just as he was ready to proceed down the hall, Atharam and the man with the lantern went to recover the one who had gone down the hall. Knowing that there was nothing more he could do from within the building, Vicente stepped out into the open. The cool clean night air washing over his body was a relief after standing in the heat of the burning building. He turned to look back at the conflagration and all emotion left his face. The fire’s light danced in his eyes as tears leaked unnoticed from them. He stood silently watching as the fire spread trapped within a memory.

Rising from where he had been kneeling in the ashes of his life, Vicente looked upon the still burning remnants of his home with silent tears streaming down his cheeks. Numbly he stood and watched as the last timbers of his home succumbed to the flames he had called on to avenge his family. Turning his back on the remaining fragments of his life, Vicente walked away from his home in a haze of rage and grief.

He walked for a short time before the smell of burned flesh and smoke from his clothing brought him back to himself. Stopping near a pond he stripped and dove into the clear waters hoping to cleanse himself not only of the stench but perhaps some of his grief as well. Using handfuls of sand from the bottom, he scrubbed at his skin vigorously until it almost bled. As he scrubbed, in his mind’s eye he saw the time that he and his wife had made love on the bank of this very pond, creating their child and he remembered their laughter when they taught their daughter to swim in this same pond, on a gentle summer’s day, years later. Choking back a sob, he pulled himself from the water garbed himself in his trousers and gathered the rest of his clothing.

After leaving the pond, he returned to his study. A sturdy building built entirely of stone he had found it at the edge of the wood near his house years ago while wandering the borders of his land. He had kept all his supplies for his magic, and even a few items of clothing, here instead of in the main house once the baby had arrived. A cry of despair and rage tore through him and he began tearing up his study until exhaustion over took him. Then curling himself into a ball on the floor, he felt sleep over come him even as his tears streamed unnoticed down his cheeks to the floor.

((OOC: I’d like a knowledge arcane check to see if Vicente recognized the pendant/amulet and ring the mage was wearing. As a heads-up Vicente will stand there and stare at the inn until someone or something brings him out of his flashback.))

Subject: Jason - Negotiations Concluded....

Looking around the table to see how the rest of the crew was feeling about the job, Jason noticed the Doc’s look that said, 'Osiris, WHAT!' and returned one of his own that said, 'We’ll talk on ship.' He knew from their time together that Brian had an aversion to making planet fall on Osiris.

“Doc, the game really is simple,” Jason said looking up from his cards as he took a sip from his ever present flask. As usual Tess, Ken and Jason had been sitting up late in the D-fac playing poker. Tonight however, was the first time that Doc had shown up.

“I’ll tell you what Doc. I’ll teach you to play Texas Hold’em and you can teach me how to use some of that medical gear in the infirmary,” Jason suggested. “After all you never know when you’ll need a medic. I’m not suggesting you teach me anything complicated just some basic field medicine.” The idea struck him as a good one. Looking over to Ken and Tess, Jason said, “‘Penny’ poker only, guys. Looks like it’s time to teach the Doc to play some cards.” That had been the start of an interesting, if unlikely, friendship.

As he was asking Tess and Grace about the deadline for making Osiris Jason noticed a lone Oriental man enter the bar, but just filed the information away. He was trying to make a deal while not letting Jon give it away for free.

“Besides,” He thought to himself, “that’s what Ken’s here for. If there’s trouble he’ll take care of it.”

When Grace and Tess had confirmed Destiny could indeed make the run to Osiris by the proposed deadline he turned back to Norm and started to wrap the deal.

“One moment, Mr. Sellers, I believe that we can come to a deal but there are a few things that I’d like to clear up.” Jason wore an easy smile as he drilled Sellers, “What about any taxes or tariffs on the wine? Who is responsible for those?” Jason asked hoping that the answer wouldn’t be them; it’d certainly eat into the profit on this trip. “How many tickets for the party would you provide? Finally, who do we send the wave to so we can make sure you’re being straight up?”

"Oh yeah. Good thing you asked. I would have forgot. Umm let's see that would be ...right ...right carry the ten ...right." Norm mumbled in response to Jason’s query on the tariffs. Slowly doing the math in his head.

Suddenly Jon was on his feet extending a hand and saying, “Norm, you show me the credits, let me wave Osiris, make loading this cargo quick, and you've got yourself a deal, tariffs be damned.”

“Jing chai Jon, just give away our gorram credits,” Jason thought while keeping his expression neutral as Jon interrupted yet again.

"Huh!" Norm said clearly losing his train of thought. "What? Ah. Okay 3000 credits then. That will cover the tariffs, right? More than right? and any incidental right."

“Sounds like we have an agreement, Mr. Sellers,” Jason said cheerfully saluting with his glass of wine. “How Shi Sung Chung!”

"Great! This is just great! Right? right!" he says as he finished his glass of wine. He looked around one last time and suddenly dropped his voice, "Right. I'll have the casks brought over tonight after nightfall." He pulled a calling card out of his pocket and passed it over. It gives the name Baron Otello, a wave transponder number, and coordinates for landing. "His assistant's name is Binkley. Decimus Binkley. he'll tell you all you need to know." and with that Norm backed away from the table, as if ready to bolt.

“Well looks like Norm’s fear or paranoia is back. I wonder what or who is causing it this time.” Jason mused when Norm dropped his voice suddenly to tell them when the cargo would be delivered to Destiny, and give them Binkley’s name.

"Norm Sellers? Is that you?" The Oriental man at the bar asked as if surprised.

"Howard! What you doing here?" Norm replied, stopping in his tracks and wearing a nervous smile.

Jason watched the interaction between Sellers and ‘Howard’ looking to decipher the subtle clues once again. Jason didn’t get much of a feel off Howard. So, he gave the oriental man a closer look this time noticing Howard’s broad shoulders and the tattoos hidden beneath the loose white shirt.
“Looks like Howard is one wei shian dohn, those could even be Tong tats.” Jason thought and made a mental note to either check into that possibility himself or ask Grace to check into it once they were back at the ship.

"I was going to ask you the same thing Norm." Howard replied.

"Right! I'm ...right. Red-heads!" He says and points towards Grace, "Can't resist them right? But she brushes me off right? Never had the luck with the ladies like you do right?'

“Wuo Duh Tian Ah, Lao Gohn Joo Koh! Where the hell did you come up with that Tze sah ju yi for cover,” Jason thought as he winced inwardly while making a subtle hand gesture toward Tess hoping it conveyed a, ‘Please don’t let Grace flip out!’ kind of message.

"Ahh yes. Are you going back to the vineyard?"

"Huh? Oh! Right! Yeah! back to the vinyard, got work to do right and wine to make right."

"My MX is outside, I'll give you a lift."

Norm nods, "Yeah right. Sure. If you are going that way."

Howard gets up and puts his arm around Norm, "No problem for a good friend and business partner." and the two head out the door to leave you with a bottle and a half of wine and a new cargo for which to make plans.

Jason was getting ready to breathe a sigh of relief for the conclusion of negotiations and getting the hell off of this rock with the crew intact and paid when the sound of a ship coming in to land started up. He looked beyond the cantina windows to see the landing gear of the vessel and heard Grace’s comment on the ship.

"A.S.R.E.V." (Alliance short range enforcement vessel) Grace said, listening to the engine’s roar as they powered down, "I know those engines anywhere."

“Alliance or Feds,” Ken mumbled, loud enough to be heard by the table at large, though he seemed to be saying it more to himself than anyone else. He stood as he spoke appearing visibly tense. He turned from the window to the crew.

“This can’t be good.” he said in a statement that was probably very obvious to all of them, “we should get the guay out of here!”

“Well Jon, it looks like we got our deal. I’m going head back to the boat and make sure everything checks out,” Jason said after Grace made her announcement and Ken had made his comment, “Grace, Tess would you mind coming with me? I might need your help.” With that said Jason finished his glass of wine and popped the cork back in the open bottle.

“No sense in letting good wine go to waste,” He commented as he stood, gathering up the two remaining bottles from the table, and prepared to take his leave. “Bartender, what’s the damage for our drinks?”

(OOC: Jason will pay the tab and head for Destiny. Hopefully with the rest of the crew…or at least Grace cause I’m gonna need her source box for the info I’m looking for. If Grace doesn’t want Jason on her source box he will ask if she would mind checking on the possibility of Norm being in bed with the Tong or if we’re getting ready to possibly step on some toes.)
