I'm down for shackling Grugg back into the game.
As kaeroku said, we could always help with the tidbits of rolling a character.

Subject: Update

I hereby announce that I have been dumb.
I used Padre's sheet as base, but forgot to check the extra tabs and such. Here is the corrected and updated sheet:

I robbed Padre's XLS and even some info. This is basically it; later today I'll add some missing detail and properly finish that portrait.

Subject: dat sheet

My "sheet" is just plain text, but I think I'll steal Padre's xls for myself. I'll post her after I finish drawing a portrait.

By the way, Padre, did you make your homeworld up, or does it exist in some book?
Also, I see you have some skills (such as Pilot) at rank 1, but no specialization. I think the most you can have of a general specialized skill is 0, which gives you a general idea of how to pilot any kind of spacefaring ship. To increase it past that to 1 and beyond, you'd have to specify what kind of ship you trained for (small craft, spacecraft or capital ships), and then have both Pilot 0 and, say, Pilot (small craft) 1.

Anagathics basically make you dependant... gotta spend thousands of credits every month to keep the aging halted, otherwise you suffer aging effects immediately. Dangerous stuff.

I'm going for a clean aging. Overall medicine probably has everyone well past the century mark anyway, and my character isn't too old by any means.

Is that so? Still a long way to go then.
Gotta take care with that aging, depending on the overall goal you have at character creation, you can start with quite an old one.

Let's see what big Al has in stock for us, but simply put, I'm rocking a pilot. Going to draw a few sketches of her now, if anybody wants I can try to doodle yours too. Not doing much anyway!

As with learning new systems, I think Traveller is quite interesting. A simple d6 base, some solid rules, and the supplements offer a wide array of extra careers and rules to drink from. The only matter tingling my number-crunching senses is the lack of structured character development (such as gaining levels in D&D), short of some lengthy skill training and, of course, buying gear, augmentations, etc.

Then again, that might just not be the point of it. My biggest issue right now is tidying up the backstory, and choosing a noteworthy "secret" so I can be blackmailed. Heh.

It's shaping up to be quite promising indeed!
Don't think there's much harm done in bumping things just a bit.

Subject: Rolling and rolling

Character development in Traveller is surely crazy, but it ended up far more tight than I expected, with minimal 'fudging' to get my first career going (missed a roll by 1).

I guess it is -potentially- crazy.

One thing I'm curious about, though, is how character development is handled. There are some minimal rules for gaining skill in-game, and that's all I could find. Besides getting rich and the like.

Subject: Extra material

I suppose that sounds good! I'm not really a fan of min-maxing characters in any sort of roleplaying game, I was just afraid of deviating too much from my original concept. No problems in ending up wildly different, I just want to at least get some desired careers!

That said, are we allowed to use the extra books Padre linked, such as Mercenary, Scout, etc?

Al, you asked interested people to create characters on their own, but a great deal of that is random rolling - getting random skills, randomly getting injured and almost wasting career terms, etc.

How should we handle that?

Hey peeps, I'd have interest in playing this, if there's room.

Not at all very familiar with the system; I read through the rules a two weeks ago, and I'm downloading Alacrity's quick start right now.

I also like the idea of playing a pilot. That and the mechanic appealed to me, but there're giddy people here already.

'tis a shame indeed, but sometimes our lives trump over petty games, doesn't it?

Best of luck to everyone involved.

Greetings!

I have recently found this forum, and as such I'd politely ask you to disregard the blatantly low number of posts on my account.

To the matter at hand, I'm interested in playing a game on the forums, but I am not terribly familiar with 2e. Last time I messed with it was a great, long time ago, so I might need some time to read through everything and pick up the pace.

That said, if you're willing to take me in, I could play a Cleric. How about that?
