Thanks, Tiamat - belated it may be. I think it may just be that I'm so out of practice that I can't yet wrap my head around it again.
Will sit and cogitate.

Topic: PbP Pondering Subject: PbP Pondering
Sort of delurking after a long hiatus, and reading a couple recent blog entries got me thinking.
I've never had much luck with play-by-post games, mostly through timing and issues of my own, and so many of the games on the site are so well-established by now that it's hard to glean useful information from them.
Kinda just throwing a couple-three questions out to see what sticks:
- Timing. What's considered a fast or slow game? A post a day? Every couple days? Once a week is slow, to be certain. And related, time differential; I know it hinges on post frequency, but when something that takes five minutes to play out face to face on the table takes a week to resolve online...I don't know. Chat games are less prone to this.
- Length. This is where I boggle, sometimes, and not limited to this site. If I try to write up long blocks of prose - more than a couple paragraphs - I start to feel like I'm chewing on a thesaurus just to fill space even if I'm laying a scene out as GM; compare that to (by random example) a fullpage-description of someone just walking into a room. Any suggestions for getting past the stumbling block here?
- Freeform vice system. I'm not even sure if that's the right way to look at it - the last time I -frequented- the form, the freeform boards were full of multi-continuity pubcrawling shindigs; now it's all basically 'not a published system' games. Neither is a bad thing, mind, and I don't mean to imply such - just that the last time I posted a mingling pubcrawl kinda thread, it petered out after just a few posts. Take that with a grain of salt however, because that was literally years ago.
Maybe chat-based games would be more my speed in general, it's something I'll have to look into.
I suppose I can boil this lot down into one thing:
*How can I be a better PbP player and GM?*

Hail all and well met. Been a long time for some.
Still around, still kicking...still lurking, mostly. Not playing many games at all these days, but wanting to. Still an oldschool and odd-system grognard.
Fair winds and open roads.

Probably belated, but the Trek Tools page is working again; confirmed in Firefox 2.0.0.20 - maybe I need to have a look at those notes again...

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs Subject: Trek Tools?
Had a look through the last few pages of this thread, didn't see anything.
The link to the Star Trek Tools page leads to a version of the site frontpage without the dropdown menus, and with most images broken. Using Firefox 2.0.0.20 here.

Topic: The Red Dragon Inn Subject: Errant ventures....
And here's our cloaked fellow again, appeared from the bar and kitchen looking a skosh worse for the wear! A few extra rends in his cloak seem to be the worst of it though, and a tankard seems to be the sum of his spoils.
"...and as for the rapier that hung by his side, we flung it as far as we could in the tide - to the-'ere now, what's this?" he sputters over, breaking mid-verse, taking in the rearranged (and somewhat diminished) crowd. "Have I missed something, then? It happens rather a lot, I'm afraid..."
Heaving a shrug, he slides a chair 'cross the floor to the nearest conversant folk - Meri and DM, whether it's good luck or bad.
"D'you know if anyone's fed the thing in the icebox of late?"

Topic: The Red Dragon Inn Subject: Meta!
Elegance, eldritch, finery...nah.
Our next contestant to enter the foyer presents a scruffy, unshaven coutenance; lean frame wrapped up in a patchwork red-brown cloak over blue and brown. Kinked walking-stick is flipped to rest on his shoulder, off-key whistling trailing off as the lad cracks a lopsided grin. Muddy grey eyes sweep the room with practiced ease, while the toe of one boot prods at a floorboard.
"...'s no well-house, but 'twill do. Strange is as strange ways does, after all. Now then..."
And off to the bar he goes, trinkets and tankard clattering from his overcrammed backpack and numerous pouches, tossing jaunty bow to one lass (the Dragon Mistress, had he heard?) in passing. The ruffling of cards also catches his attention for a moment, a coins or three suddenly flipping in the air before disappearing as he makes a mental note on which shaded corner that table seems to be in - there are an unusual number of such, it seems.

A few of my characters in different games offline have had a resemblance to mine; plus, that's what "I" looked like in IC chat for the longest time. That's about the breadth of it.

Topic: Gary Gygax has passed away Subject: RIP
...well, crit.
There is an empty chair,
at the table this day.
A hallowed place where,
a friend once played.
The roll of his dice,
my ears long to hear.
Or perhaps it would suffice,
if he should suddenly appear.
With character sheet in hand,
and a bag of Cheeze-doodles to share.
All his friends would stand,
as he sat in the empty chair.
I hear his voice a-callin’,
and it ties my heart in a knot.
For he cries, “Though a comrade has fallen,
You must play for those who cannot.”
We conquered worlds on the run,
he and I in the name of fun.
And as others may come and go,
I make both both friend and foe.
But what I long for most,
is our past now long a ghost.
(c) Kenzer & Co.
Keep the dice rolling.

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs Subject: Outage?
Posting from work here, just a quick question - was there a hiccup with the site the last couple days? I kept pulling 'connection refused' error messages trying to hit either the site itself or the forum directly, from both IE and Firefox on my home system. I haven't had a chance to check from there yet today, so this may be a moot point/issue on my side....just wanted to check.

One Renfest, one Irish Festival, a whole lot of singing, and more than a little sleep missed conspire me to ponder:
What do you do with a drunken sailor, earlye in the morning?
Add a verse, claim a tankard of e-grog, whatever.

Topic: yet another movie thread... Subject: Up and coming
Saw Spiderman a while back, thought it was pretty good for a comicbook movie - I've seen far worse, after all.
Pirates 3 was convoluted. I thought it was better than the second one, but not by much. Had too much stuff going on, and then just kid of....ended. Meh, glad I caught the cheapseat matinee.
The one I'm really looking forward to is Transformers, in July. Trailers have me really psyched, just on account of gourgeous CGI giant robots...
