What is your favorite weapon for a fantasy game

This is a throwback from my days of AD&D when non-profeciency penalties were kind of steep, and for some reason I kept losing my weapons...

But my weapon of choice always was a club.

The reason for that is because dang near anything can be used as a club. A broken chair, a branch off a tree, hell I even used my own severed arm as a club one time. Any character worth their salt could find one if need be.

And the damage wasn't horrible either.

What is your favorite weapon?

For whatever reason

I always wanted to use a stump knife. Im not sure if that was the real name, but it was the punching dagger you could fasten on to stump if your hand got severed. The DM would never let me start with only one hand so I basically just shoved my hand in everything.

"I REACH INTO THE DRAGON'S MOUTH AND TICKLE HIS TONGUE"
"I HATE YOU SO MUCH"

well..

It depends usually on what type of character I'm playing, but whenever possible I use some kind of sword, usually a rapier for rogues for the crit range, and a bastard sword for fighter types, the option to use it either one handed or two handed makes it a favorite weapon for me, and I collect katanas anyway, so I have a soft spot for them.

Either way, one cannot argue with the importance of the trusty backup dagger that just about every character I play keeps somewhere on them.

The sound of Keys?

Kyle leaned back and his hand fell to the handle of his mace, ‘Not much unlike the club of old but more modern, civilized you could say.’ Kyle looked over his shoulder…

In a room light only by a small desk lamp and the glow of a monitor, the sound of keys being tapped could be heard through the house, well except in the kitchen where the hum of a dishwasher filled the air, ‘Asking what weapon is a favorite would be asking me to argue with every character I have ever played.

Nothing says shut up and listen the way a double headed battle axe berried deep into a solid oak dinner table.

But then a thief I once played would whisper sweet nothing into your ear as he brought his dagger to rest deep into your back.

Then there was the all well rounded woodsmen and woodland folk I have played, “A fine bow would be to our liking,” Would be their vote in this.

The sound of keys stop…

Kyle looks back at all those gathered at the Inn this evening, 'I still say the mace.'

Weapons?

What are those?

Ohh... that's right that's what all of you non-magic weilders use...

Pathetic.

My husband played a minotaur who had a cannon ball with returning on it, that was fun.

tsk tsk Mer

Even a spellcaster has to have something to fall back on Mer, even if it is just some dinky dagger or a staff, after all, spellcasting and melee just don't mix too well, and you can't always count on the meatshield to stop everything from reaching you.

That is what...

teleport was invented for.

Yeah... I'm known for my passive aggressive characters.

I did play a male bard who carried a quarterstaff around. Never hit anything with it but it was a great prop, especially for him. He was... special

Fair enough

Teleport is probably useful for avoiding melee, personally I lean toward casters with a little more survivability in melee though, like my personal favorite the Warmage, usually with a single level of Fighter to reflect some martial training during his Warmage training, instant proficiency in martial weapons is just an added perk when compared to the RP value..

I'm with Meri

If you're a mage or druid, you don't need a weapon (not in 3.5E, at least). You are a god.

Favorite Weapon

If the DM allowed a Katana and Wakasashi, after that Longsword and Short sword (two weapons) or Bastard sword

On a recent TV show we have here that pits different types of weapons against each other, the Katana outdid the Longsword in an attack on plate armor. Both did about the same damage with a chop, but Katana beat the Longsword in piercing.

Lately...

...my favorite (or, at least, most often used) weapon has been the banhammer!

Hmm

I'm a bit partial to longbow, having used one in reality

The 'elven curved blade' is a weapon that has been on my mind lately, and I also remember it being one of the first blades I found intriguing, courtesy of seeing Ginafae's character with one in the first game I joined here

In the end, my absolute favourite fantasy weapon though - claws
