Yup

Yeah, I know, I know. But having played in your games before, I don't think my character has once come out of a fight without a scratch until now. Not I that I don't appreciate it, ofc.

twitchy

I promise to beat you to within a hit point of your life in the next fight - will that make you feel better?

Note - The kobolds melted "like" wax over a fire - but they weren't actually wax. Like the senator turning to liquid in the first X-Men movie. Not sure if everyone got that - and I was tired when i wrote the description so it wasn't my best work.

Direction - if you'd like me to move along the party again this weekend, then we can do a quick vote here. West to the back or East to the side door? Or split the party and try both thus making it easier for me to beat Brandr to a hit point of his life?

What?

This is mutiny! Guards, throw them into the dungeons!

Well let's head west then. Though I'm suspecting the backdoor will be protected likewise. Doesn't hurt to check, I suppose. Then again, I've now caught the interest of the evil side of our glorious DM and may really have put Brandr in it head first and deep.

positions

Unless otherwise told or argued. I will assume that Ela, Crow and Brander are within 60-70 feet of the terrace (with Crow near the wall of the castle, Ela in the garden and Brandr on the outer edge) The rest of the party is at the far end of the garden. You may post movements to change that but in case someone wants to know where they are in my mind.

Big bad dudes eating little helpless dudes?

Well, it seems to me that we have an opportunity to prevent someone from meeting a bad end. So, I'm guessing we want to move up and stop this little feast. No?

How elevated is this terrace? Do we expect to be able to jump onto it? Can we see enough to shoot arrows? Is there a convenient spot from which to cast a sleep spell before they even know we are here?

Oh, and how big is "big?"

well ....

How elevated is this terrace? About five feet. There are stairs on the sides if you look at the map.

Do we expect to be able to jump onto it? Well you could use the stairs.

Can we see enough to shoot arrows? Sure but the sides are blocked with a white linen hung loosely which may slow or stop an arrow.

Is there a convenient spot from which to cast a sleep spell before they even know we are here? Define convenient? Do you mean a place to cast the spell and not be seen or heard? I'd have to check the range of a sleep spell first but I don't think you need to be in eye contact to effect creatures. So it is a tentative yes.

Oh, and how big is "big?" The shadows make them look somewhere between 7 to 8 feet tall. You can see the sharp edges of their armour so the are a hearty race that can carry heavy armour and still eat ... dinner.

And the fun is just beginning

Ogres anyone?

That'd be my guess from afar anyway. 4 of 'em isn't an easy task if I'm right. Now I need to see what sleep would even do against such fine folk.

Looked it up - range = 30 yards.

Spell affects 2d4 worth of hit dice. Creatures with 4d+3 HD are not affected by the spell. If they are ogres - anyone know what their hit dice are? I don't remember off hand or have the book. Of course, they might not even be ogres.

Color Spray might be more useful, but I have to get within 20 feet. But it is a very short casting time.

ogres?

I don't think they're ogres. Four of them would tear us to pieces... That's unless Alacrity was serious a few posts earlier on this thread. Gnolls or hobgoblins more likely. Also sleep spell against ogres... not very useful. I'd say much wouldn't be lost even if the sleep would fizzle, except one spell ofc.

Ogres

HD 4+1

Funny how you remember certain stats.....

Not wanting too burst any bubbles but ogres don't often wear armour. If they do they are usually ogre magi and you'd be pooched anyway.

My vote is for Lady Gaga!!

Wait this is AD&D Not the music world ok then I go with Bugbears as they stand 7+ tall and Hobgoblins only stand at 6 1/2 feet tall. Though Gnolls do also stand at 7+ tall and they do wear better armor then Bugbears hmmmm .

Ok scouting post coming up from yours truly the acrobatic thief

Ok, so, itty bitty ogre children . . . ogrelings

Gnolls and hobgoblins I can deal with. Or at least better than Ogres. Kinda like Kobolds.

Things of that nature are easier than ogres would be with a sleep spell. It also gives me 30 yards. I would assume whatever else we do, that Derry would try to sneak up to within that range so that he can start the attack with his spell. Or let arrows hit, then hit them with the spell, if archers can even get a clear line of sight.
