Open Game Slot ~ What do YOU want to play?

Greetings, Innmates!

I’ve decided that I would like to GM a game here at the Inn. When I sat down to think about it, it seems like there are quite a few of a certain type of game, but lacking in other areas. Does this mean that players want to play the same type of games, or different ones? I was at a loss, but then Al’s ‘Floyd Hobart’ came to mind.

So the question is: what would you like to play? My worlds are pretty open ended, with the players blazing forth a path rather than the GM setting them on a trail. I really don’t feel comfortable with Star Wars (sorry, Raven!), but I could probably eek out a Star Trek campaign if there was enough interest. Here are some other suggestions to get your imagination going:

  • Old West as suggested by LoneWolf
  • High Fantasy
  • Low Fantasy
  • Audalis Adventures
  • Swashbuckling
  • Firefly setting
  • Modern (maybe even an over the top, kinda like Grugg’s awesome endeavor with City Fantastico)
  • Modern Apocalypse/Survial
  • Mutants and Masterminds
  • Vampires
  • Zombies

This list could go on, but I really want to know is what you want to play! Choices aren’t limited by what’s above; I know there are tons more settings. With enough interest in a particular area, I will go ahead and set up a campaign for it!

Star Wars? But... but...

...but I don't know that verse at all! Now, Star Trek, on the other hand, is something I watch on a regular basis! Plus I've read a few books!

Mmmm...Shadowrun...

Now that I go to type this, it sounds rather stupid... but I'm gonna say it anyway. *Cheshire's Grin*

How about a factions game? With the players being prominent and powerful members within one/them? The idea that started this was kind of a three way world war of sorts between humans, vampires, and zombies, in a world where zombies are a different type of undead and beyond the vampire's control.... Anyway, I've always been a sucker for the plot lines and politics that come out of games with warring factions like that, especially if a few of them have heavy influence... makes for interesting interaction with the NPC's.

*laughter can be heard as i fade in*

Humans are boring? Friend of mine, I understand that we seek our fantasy worlds as an escape of the familiar, for a multitude of reasons, and humans are familiar. However, humans are capable of becoming anything you want them to become. A race limited only by your own thought and imagination in creation and playing. I'll admit they don't look as impressive as the other races in the book, lacking flashy racial abilities in favor of solid mechanics bonuses, but to call them boring? If a human character is boring, it is because the player put no life into them. Or perhaps that character is holding back from you, if it is someone else's? Perhaps there are secrets kept, mysteries not revealed? If so, then by definition they are the antithesis of boring.

Or perhaps you just find them boring. Fair enough. It's your opinion.

Well said, Chess!

As fond as I am of playing elves, halflings, and other such fantastical race, I can't say that I find humans boring in the least... in fact, humans (for all the reasons that Chess listed and possibly more) have even less potential to be 'boring' than the other races...

...Besides... some of my favorite people are humans!

If you want a war

Might I suggest the Witchcraft setting? It certainly includes enough components by which to make humans very much not boring. Use of the setting allows for not only conflict between humans/vampires/zombies but also between 'natural' and 'supernatural'. There is a variety of options.

It is also modern, so allows for the hacked-off-shotgun approach if a player wanted to take that route against zombies.

Not to mention, last I checked, the core book was free. That's always a bonus (no, of course this isn't an attempt to increase the following)

Haha, true

humans are versitile, but they can't dance like a gorilla in the middle of Nunavut with a big smile on their face to "I'm a little teapot".......for 20 hours.

that setting sounds fun....BOOM!!!! there go a zombie head!

Oh.... the possibilities

I like it! Things are definitely getting rolling in the brain pan ~ it looks like it’s tending toward a modernish game.

Chess ~ I’m all about ploty-plotyness! There is one thing I’m worried about with having such large faction concepts (e.g. humans vs vamps vs zombies, and opposed to factions inside of a race, which is overall against another race [like what occurs in Vampire]). I’m afraid if we were to pull off something like that, we’d need to recruit a lot of players. Otherwise we might have four Innmates playing main characters, and a Celeste NPCing twenty consistently.

I love factions though. They are an integral portion of my tabletop games.

Reralae ~ I will check out that game system. I’m always one for exploring new things. ^_^

Takley ~ “I’m a Little Teapot” for twenty hours? Sounds like one helluva story ~ I’d love to hear it.

Eol ~ Some of my favorite people are humans too! That, and dogs; because sometimes they are just little people in a furry suit.

Hu-uuuh... post apocalyptic Shadow Run? Breaking of the World-type goodness?

I know that this would be a great chance to ask for some interesting and exotic game... but for some reason I just fancy a bog standard 3.5 D&D game.

Well... maybe not bog standard. Some home rules to mix things up would be nice

Some sort of faction based game would work in D&D right? That might be cool. You know, PCs working for a common goal that isn't fame, glory or money but because of some other cause or reason.

EDIT: Some other cause or reason that isn't "an evil wizard attacked the village" or some obvously D&D thing, more a cause or reason that is more human... if you get what I mean
