(least) Favorite Character Death

In the row of Gaming Surveys about your characters:

How did you characters die?
And of course, tell us how you felt about this death. Were you happy to get rid of the character, were you angry at your DM, etc etc.

I'll start with an example myself.
I was playing a halfling druid in a 3.5 tabletop campaign. We were after a group of demon worshippers, and found their hide-out. In the midst of their evil ritual we came in and fought really hard. One of our companions already died, when my halfling was caught between several evil bad guys. Some of the others already chose to surrender, but not my druid. She would not surrender.
Normally I would have no problem surrendering to 'save' a character. But somehow I didn't feel like that was the thing for this character (not that I was bored with her or something.)
So when the halfling was almost dead, she called a flamestrike on top of herself and her attackers. I had hoped that the bad guys would die, and thus save my companions. But my halfling died, and none of the bad guys did. That really sucked. But it still felt like a glorious death

kofds

I spent an entire tabletop battle casting a lightning spell on a thing that was immune. I forgot, the DM didn't describe effects in great detail...and the whole party died as we used to much lightning. Sucky.

Jozan

If you ever wanted to know why I have my name Jozan ( I doubt it but just incase) It was from my very first DnD character, Jozan. He was a ready out of the box character that I spelled wrong, ( his real name being Josan) and that I played him up till level nine. Well I kind of got bored of wandering around in this giant pyramid we were in, and I hit a support beam. I said he went slightly crazy/mad and had his holy mace from Pelor, and hit a beam. Well that beam decided it should fall and instantly kill my character. no rolls or anything. Now the roof collapsed, buy my brothers elven fighter, Elfli, crawled out alive, with his twin golen scimitars, and then the campaign ended there. I was kind mad, no rolls, no saves, no word, just...smoosh.

Does it count if the char was barely saved? Then used in a black summoning ritual?

d20 Modern campaign, my Charismatic Hero Cieala had just entered into the forest at the edge of town, known to be infested with something wierd. So armed with her sword cane and her 'Wild Talent' of Far Hand she ventured off without her brother (played by my brother), the Strong Hero (I forget what he was doing at the time). Any way, two Mothfolk warriors suddenly attack out of the trees. Cieala whipped her sword out of her umbrella as the first swooped past her. Miss. The thing hit her and did some amount of damage. these things are not very hard, even a charismatic hero could take one on fairly easily. Now at 8 Hp, the other also gets to attack before her, and it does, guess what? maximum damage: 8

It was pretty crappy, I had never actually semi-roleplayed worth a crap before this campaign. Next morning (because we ended the game on that note) Cie's brother comes into the forest to look for me. He finds me about to be sacraficed in some mothfolk ritual. He bursts in there (the subtle art of a little brother's strong hero) and starts swinging his weapon at everything. Shortly he is not doing to well, but thankfully during all this I wake up. I use my Far Hand Wild Talent to pick up my sword, laying a little ways away on the forest floor. My first instinct is to use my telekinetically controlled sword slice the rope that I am hanging from. Bad Idea, there is a bonfire down there, so instead I slice up the bonds on my feet. Meanwhile dear brother is barely fending off his attackers. eventually I manage to swing my self enough to get a grip on the tree and escape the remainder of my bonds. In an attempt to get down I end up dropping off the tree to the forest floor. by the time I get my weapon ready, dear brother has just slain the last of the mothfolk. Next thing to happen is a black ooze..... oozes out of the fissure created by the summoning. It is a Satanic Ichor for those who need to know. it immediately possesses me and entralls my brother. We make it though eventually with the help of our NPC friend and a little thing called electricity (note that the Satanic Ichor has some sort of Damage Reduction I think).

Then there's the time I got a black dragon angry.... A big one..... but that's another story.

well

It didn't happen to me, but I was DMing

Taught my players two valuable lessons:

1) Just because the cloak radiates strong transmutation doesn't mean it's a cloak of resistance +5.

2) A lethal cloak of poison radiates strong transmutation...

Not my PC either but...

it was in my early days of GMing (I rarely play so I haven't gotten any of my PCs dead yet). I had a thing for putting the players against way too powerful opponents at the time. We had just started a new Werewolf the Apocalypse chronicle and before the very first hour had passed by one of the PCs was killed in a battle against three or four Black Spiral Dancers. I still hear the guys talk about it when describing me as a GM.

ooooohhhhhhh this one:

A friend of mine has a habit of getting himself and others in trouble because of his decisions. They are crazy because of his inventiveness, and his insecurity with the rules.
One time in a Ravenloft campaign I was DMing, he and another player were facing off against a zombie in some back alley. The other player, a fighter rogue, got injured seriously, and my friend decided to go headbutt the zombie. He got slammed unconscious and the fighter rogue died. the funny thing is: he was playing a cleric and could've easily turned the zombie with his divine powers.
The fighter rogue later came back to haunt him and the party because of that.

another time he was playing a druid of higher level, and we were facing a powerful wizard. He decided it was a good idea to use his wildshape ability.
First he shaped into a bird and hovered above the wizard. Next, he transformed into an ox to plummet into the wizard. Unfortunately he Missed, and killed himself with the impact. It was fun though

I became a hippo though. Still didn't work.

My first death

Ok. I recently, within the year, started table-top RP. I was beginning to get into this game that I helped create. So I used my Forest of Gilgamesh and gave all of my info to the DM and helped him make the map. We're going through the game, all about lvl. 15-19. As we're going we enter into a large, dream tower that is the home of one of the mortal gods. Well, while we're there one of my best friends, playing a smart-mouth elf. He smarted off to the god and eventhough my character had a medallion showing he followed Gilgamesh, the god was pissy.

We had to fight, and just because he was a god, we were no match for him. And when he attacked I ran. But when I ran out the door of the tower I was attacked by Gilgamesh and killed by a scythe.

I was the onl one to die too.

This is why you never run from a fight. Ever. You will be killed by a guy with a scythe...yep.

Sad thing

The bad part about it. My character was a multiclass ranger/cleric. And his god was Gilgamesh. Guess it was punishment for running. Or for crapping himself.

Death Of Julian

Well I just found a fun charater to play. His name was Julian Tealeaf I made a bio for him and everything. He was a lvl 4 rouge and lvl 3 Assassin. Well i was traveling with a bunch of evil charaters and one a orc eye of grumsh of them hated elfs. He curb stomped them all the time (). But after raiding this ruin we had to stop to resupply the town that we happen to stop at was a large eleven city. So when elfs made fun of my Orc friend and so he curb stomped him this brought on the rape. I was Desinigated it sucked.

Just happened earlier today actually...

Well, it happened in my friends long running campaign. He DM's for my brother and I, and my brother plays a 13th lvl Barbarian Warforged. We both started the campaign at level one, and my first character was a lvl 1 Shifter Rogue. Well as we got stronger, he was a Chaotic evil assasin/rogue, and we were crossing this bridge down in some big caverns( by the way, we play in eberron) and a halfling jumped out in front of us in the middle of the bridge yelling " I've got a riddle for you! You need to answer it before you cross!" And my character was majorely pissed off by a previous encounter, so he stabbed him with a dagger. Now the dagger My character had was a cursed weapon, with every succesful hit forcing the enemy to roll a DC 14 fortitude save, and if fail, all thier organs melted into an acidy goo. same happened with Natural 20's. now if it went over 100 feet away, the hand i wield it in melted away in same goo. Now i stabbed him, and he failed, then rolled over the edge dieying. we crossed the bridge, very satisfied at this, and then met the halflings friend. A hill Giant. he said, " You kill friend, you die now!" we battled, and my brother, being CN, decided to stay out of the battle, because it wasnt his problem. So me and the giant squared off, and i was about to die, when this troll came out stopping it, and permited us to pass. Then, me being CE, passed behind the giant and snuck attacked him, with 6d6 or 7d6, i forget. I failed all three attacks. Then i was presumed to be picked up by the giant, chewed, and stuffed in his pants. I lost a leg, arm, fingers, chunks of flesh, and many other things. I was spat out onto the ground, and then the tribe of barbarians we had saved earlier, healed my bleeding wounds, and then he stayed with them for the remainder of his life. That character was Ivellios.

Then, I made a Character named Grumber Ubada. He ended up being a 12th lvl fighter. After Fighting in a series of wars for Breland, Grumbar and Dorn ( my bros character) were being given the Medal of Valor, and campaign stripes for helping win the final battle and many others, when Grumbar( who is a hobgoblin) was approached by a hidden figure, and spoke to him in goblin. He was a hob goblin too. his name was sith, and he said the time was now. The time to over throw the ruling government of Darguun ( the goblin nation) was needed to happen. Grumbar was the rightful heir to the throne, but the current ruler slaughtered his family and took the throne for himself. So Grumbar was given 10k gold to raise a mercenary army, and start a war with Darguun. He raised many mercs, and then recieved help from Breland, Carnithi, A major orc tribe, and elven pirates. But after having his total merc army destroyed in a major battle, he and dorn, with 250 soldiers were holding off a keep when Breland arrived with the main army, and broke the seige/battle. Then they marched to the capital, and over threw it. ( aldo Darguun was a province of Breland before it was taken by lesh, the Darguunian leader. so they want it) and so Grumbar was then given a choice. Rule Darguun and bring peace to the nation, or keep on adventuring. he ( being I) chose to rule, and so his adventuring ended right there. This was one of the best characters I made. He had three attacks, +20, +15, +10. He had a +2 vorpal Longsword, and did 1d8+10 per attack with a critical range of 17-20. he kicked butt with his sword. He once vorpaled off the head of a mountain troll. and then my brothers fiery great axe finished it. Easily one of my favorite characters.

Then, I made a new character. A 13th level Sorcerer. he is a half elf, and I made him earlier eoday. Dorn and him ( I forgot his name >.<) met in a guild that hunted epic monsters. They were teamed together to take ona Kraken that was harassing many fishing ships, and they were fighting it, when the kraken tiped the ship and was swallowing many peopel. so we needed to make a DC 15 reflex save. easy for lvl 13. I needed a 5 or higher. Rolled a 2. I was then grappled and being chewed on. Dorn kept slashing him with his giant fiery great axe, and I kept firing lightening bolts with the feat maximize spell down his throat, which meant I did 78 damage automatically, if i could beat his spell resistance, which I could do easily being lvl 13. ( we werent sure on how to do spell resistance, so we said +1 on versus his spell resistance per caster level ) Then the kraken, with 3 of those empowered lighting bolts, and many axe hits at it, then it finally killed me. I had 36 health left, and it rolled a double, and got max damage. it did 39. I was dead. Dorn finished it off with his next attack coupled with my previous Chain lightning spell, and he stabbed it with the before mentioned dagger, and rolled a 20, instantaneously turning it to goo. He went out, grabbed my body, and went back to the guild and got me ressurected. I died, but then came back. One of the most annoying ones ever. I am damned to have my revenge on the next monsters. Which we jsut got a quest to take out the last of the Lycanthropes up north. The silver flame need help, and need ours.

Also, we call this campaign, " The Dorn Saga" and compare it to Star wars. our Dm had told us the comparisons, but i forgot. and its called dorn saga, because he has been the one constant that is the same through out the game.
