Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears.

I have made my first post to the game. A short one to start, more once I feel more comfortable in Mercury's boots.

Do we all know each other by name yet? I wasn't too sure from reading the previous posts.

My assumption is...

... that Caise knows Dime's name (aka Kol Nuro) as they've been travelling companions for most of the trip to Taanab. He also knows Damanil's last name (Shadoran), since the treacherous bothan used it when all hell broke loose on the transport. As for the rest (Mercury, Ziv, Lana, etc) he may have heard the names used but hasn't really associated them with anyone in the party, yet(GMs discretion, of course)... hence the "well done, pilot" muttering from Caise... if he'd have know Merc's name, he'd have used it

BTW... great starting posts from both of our new players! Let's hope this adventure picks up and keeps running.

More thoughts on the above...

Mercury, Ziv, and Lana may be at least "familiar" with one another as they were all crew members on the same transport. Ziv and Lana definitely know one another and I would presume that they know Mercury at least in passing.

As usual...

...Eol is correct on all counts. Dime and Caise know one another from the voyage. Ziv and Mercury are crewmates on a ship with a fairly small compliment (six or eight, tops), so they also know one another to at least some degree. This voyage has not been terribly long, so the crew may have a little passing knowledge of the two passengers ("Hey, have you seen the blind guy?"), but that's probably about it.

Damanil is unknown, but his last name (Shadoran) is known to all due to the bothan's treachery.

Character listing

Since William Walkingcorpse (zombie_shakespeare) has asked about the existing characters in the game, I thought I'd take up a bit of space in the Q&A and see if I couldn't compile them all in a sequential series of posts for ease of reference.

In the party right now are the following characters:
  • Caise Jhorap – a miralukan Jedi Guardian sent to Taanab to meet with a collegue of his Master’s – played by Eol Fefalas
  • Damanil Shadoran – a human Bounty Hunter, posing as a TDF soldier, on the trail of a mark – played by Raven
  • Dime – a twilek Noble traveling incognito as a musician named Kol Nuro; is actually on an “undercover mission” to Taanab – played by Admiral
  • Mercury Saran – a young, human Fringer, until recently part of the flight crew of the Duro transport vessel Kul Kura – played by zombie_shakespeare
  • Ziv Aland – a human Scoundrel, until recently working as a mechanic/techie aboard the Kul Kura – played by YeOlde
  • Lana – a human Tech Specialist (?), until recently a lead Engineer aboard the Kul Kura – NPC

I'll give each character their own entry (alphabetically) following this one. I was only able to find actual stats for 3 of them, though, so if anyone has info for their characters that they'd like to add in, etc, let me know and I'll edit the posts as necessary. (Or if you mod/admin types want to add in the info if you've got it, I won't be offended, either)

Caise Jhorap

played by Eol Fefalas SPECIES: Miraluka
HOMEWORLD: Alpheridies
GENDER: Male
AGE: 19
HEIGHT: 6’1”
WEIGHT:170 lbs
HAIR: Silvery-white
EYES: None (technically has featureless, vestigial white orbs, typically covered by a scarf)

DESCRIPTION: Caise is a slightly taller than average, sleekly muscled miralukan male. As far as outward appearance is concerned, it wouldn’t be difficult to mistake him for a human of the same age save for the wide, silvery-blue sash that is almost always bound securely over his dead, white eyes. Otherwise, Caise looks pretty much as one would expect, sporting the short-cropped hair style and accompanying braid traditional to human padawans of the Jedi Order. As of the start of this adventure, Caise is still not entirely comfortable in social/diplomatic situations and, as a result, is fairly soft-spoken and may appear to be very introverted, brooding, and aloof.

History: Caise Jhorap has spent nearly his entire life with the Jedi Order. That is not to say that he does not have a family or even that he doesn’t remember them – in fact, he meditates on them quite frequently. Had it not been for them allowing an old Jedi Master named Vantariel to take him to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when he was but three years old, Caise would not have the life he does now, after all. In the sixteen years since leaving his homeworld of Alpheridies has immersed himself completely in the teachings of the Jedi Order and is convinced, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that this is the path he was meant to walk. It was a rare thing for young Caise to struggle with the teachings of the Masters who instructed him or with any of the volumes of text he had been required to absorb, though he did often take a great deal of time contemplating what might have been considered a minor lesson and seemed very deliberate and methodical during training. Those times when he did falter, however, seemed not to bother him to a great degree; if anything, his missteps only bolstered his dedication and determination. His fervent dedication to his studies and training served him well during his years among the Jedi younglings, he learned his lessons thoroughly and quickly and his progress from year to year was glaringly obvious.

His dedication to his studies, however beneficial to his skills and knowledge, was not without certain drawbacks, though. Caise was often so engrossed in his studies that he rarely thought to socialize with anyone aside from those who were present during his lessons or those who might have played a part in them, thus, self-deprived of any sort of personal interaction outside of the teachings of the Jedi, his manner became what some might consider brooding, painfully direct, and, somewhat aloof. It was his lack of charisma, in fact, that nearly kept the Council from allowing Master Trask to take Caise as his Padawan. They questioned his ability to play the role of diplomat or mediator and feared that his demeanor would possibly be counter-productive to any missions of that nature. After a great deal of reassurance and justification on Trask’s part – and promises that “the boy has learned everything else; he can learn… will learn to be diplomatic, as well” – Caise Jhorap was finally allowed to be taken as Trask’s padawan and complete his training as a Jedi.

Damanil Shadoran

played by Raven
(needs updating, only have what's listed here, atm)
SPECIES: Human
HOMEWORLD: Coruscant
GENDER: Male
AGE: 32
HEIGHT: 1.82 meters
WEIGHT: HAIR: Red
EYES: Green

DESCRIPTION:
Slim built and wiry muscled. Years of training and fighting have left their marks on the body, making it tough and scarred. Most of his long red hair hangs loose from the back of his head, but in order to keep it away his strikingly green eyes, the rest of the hair is tied on two ponytails, one on each side of the head. At first glance Damanil melts into the crowd; there's nothing to him that really draws attention with the exception of his scarlet hair. But a closer look may reveal a quick-thinking mind behind his attentive eyes and the readiness to act in a blink of an eye.

    History:
Damanil Shadoran was the first born of Coruscantian military family. His father, a second generation Senate guard wished his son to follow the noble profession. From a boy, Damanil received the best of physical training available. All parts of his tutoring were selected with the entrance examination in mind. But all did not go as planned, as the boy at 16 developed a rebellious mind and failed the exams on purpose. The father, maddened by the boy's arrogant behaviour, drove Damanil away from home. Forced to take up whatever jobs available, he managed to gather enough to survive, but nothing more. Due to the strict law enforcement, he had to move lower and lower in the Coruscantian society and urban structure. Down on the levels where sunlight is never seen, the young man picked up jobs of another kind: putting to use the special skills he had learned growing up. Acting as a bodyguard, a thug, a bouncer and a debt collector, Damanil found he was good in hurting and even killing people. But born with an intelligence and will beyond that of those around him, he wanted more of life. Sealing his fate as a runaway, he stole a big pile of credits from a local crime boss, a former employer of his.

The money took him far away, all the way to the Hutt Space and the Y'toub system. His skills quickly earned him a steady job as a bodyguard of a young rising member of the Besadii clan, Dergon the Hutt. But he soon found the work boring. The pay was good, but there was not enough excitement. During the time he worked for the Hutts, Damanil learned of another profession. There were men like him, running away from someone, men who someone wanted to catch or kill. After being on the run for such a long time, hunting others for bounty was something he knew he would be good at. Joining the Bounty Hunters Guild took time, but it was not as hard as Damanil thought it would be. While working as a bodyguard, he had acquired a contact who was able to help him to get accepted to the guild. Being new and unknown, Damanil at first only received jobs that were relatively easy and badly paid.

Pulling off numerous assignments in a short period of time, he was noticed by a powerful trader who gave him his first big job. The merchant, though Shadoran wasn't aware of the fact at the time, was heading a large criminal organization. Not that it would have mattered to the young man, even if he had known. To him credits were just that, money, no matter who the paying custormer was. He'd never had any illusions about Dergon either. But unlike most crime bosses operating in the sector, the one whose attention Damanil caught with his performance, was not a Hutt, but a human instead.

It surprised him that the Hutts would tolerate powerfull being of another race on their territory. Probably the fat, sluggish creatures were using the human to further their own needs just as much as he was using them. Whatever the reason, it didn't bother him for too long. Marck Tomar wanted to catch a man and had chosen Damanil for the assignment. The redhead felt proud and happy to receive a proper job that would pay him very well.

Damanil followed his would-be-captive all the way to the Corporate Sector, but met a wall of security he could not penetrate. After a few tries to catch his target unguarded, some corporate operatives came after him instead and Damanil barely managed to escape. The target put someone on his tail and Shadoran was forced to flee to and hide on a remote world for quite some time.

In the end the other hunter gave up and disappeared, probably going after a better paying job, and Damanil was able to start living again. During the time of his absence someone else had taken up his last mission and Damanil was left without any credits. To make things worse, due to his failure to complete the assignment and more importantly, failure to pay the yearly membership of the Bounty Hunter Guild, his license was terminated.

For the last four years he has lead a quiet life, picking only smaller jobs keeping him alive and away from the eyes of anyone who might wish to find him. All the lying low has made the previously energetic Hunter somewhat effete and careless.

But now after half a decade of running, his previous employers seem to have forgotten a certain Damanil Shadoran and no one appears to be hunting him anymore. For the first time in what seems like a lifetime to him, the Corellian managed to find an assignment, which would pay relatively well. Tracing the target all the way to a remote mining colony on Telos, Damanil was starting to feel the thrill of the Hunt and life again. He intended to use the pay from the mission to get back into the Guild again. But once again Lady Luck seemed to have abandoned him and the target got away.

Background: Jarl Saran was a Speederbike Racer as a teen. He was actually quite good at it too. He won the Junior Nationals twice and placed in the top three within the Corellian Championships before he was 19. At the age of 20, he made it to first place in the Championship and was looking forward to heading off-world to compete on the planetary levels.

But Jarl's father became quite ill just before the games and Jarl was put into a difficult situation. His family needed a breadwinner to keep going. The prize money for the championship would do that, but it wasn't guaranteed. A friend of the family was offering a well placed position working in the ship building yards which was a guaranteed income, with benefits. Jarl felt a strong sense of responsibility so he took the job, thinking he'd go back to racing in a year. Unfortunately his father died within a month and he was left to support his family.

That was thirty years ago, and Jarl went on to marry and have three sons (Starn 23, Nato 20 and Mercury 18 ) and a daughter ( Biel 10). He makes a good income in a managerial role now at the ship yards and has Starn working there as well. Nato chose a different path, taking an administrative role within the Corellian Government (a junior clerk in the Ministry of Communications). Jarl had high hopes that with Mercury coming of age, he'd take on a job within the shipyards as well.

Mercury loves his family very much. He is especially close to his sister whom he played with as a child. They'd have play duels throughout the household, Mercury being the valorous Jedi and Biel being the evil villain. To this day they affectionately call each other "Jedi Scum" and "Vile Villain".

But Mercury was different than his brothers in that he had a wild rebellious streak in him and a need for independence. His mind was sharp as he picked up new skills and technology well. He enjoyed sports and events that tested the reflexes as well as skills. But when it came to work, he really wasn't into the whole honest day work for an honest day's pay. He liked to hang out with his friends and … well hang out.

In fact, it was one day that Mercury was attempting to avoid doing his chores that he made a discovery. In the very back of an old storage shed far from the homestead, he found a speederbike - an old racing speederbike that was covered in a tarp. It must have been there for ages.

His father never spoke to his boys about his racing days, so Mercury didn't realize the significance of the find. With the self-centeredness of youth (I found it – it's mine) he began to work on the bike until it was operational and then he started riding it. The thrill of the speed and riding took hold of Mercury from the first moments that he rode the speederbike.

He kept it a secret from his family for awhile, mostly because he wanted to avoid chores and work so he could ride and hang out with his friends. Besides – the speederbike was something fun and his dad would never go for anything fun.

Jarl reached an end to his patience with his youngest son when he skipped out on helping Nato move out of the home to his own place in the capital. That shirking of responsibility was more than the man could bear so he went looking for his wayward son. After some questioning and some checking, Jarl discovered that these friends of Mercury were into racing each other at an abandoning parts storage facility on the edge of town. Once Jarl heard about Mercury having a bike – he started to realize what must have happened. His son had fallen in with the wrong crowd and need his help. Jarl headed directly to the Parts Facility.

Meanwhile, Mercury was started to realize that he was in a bad situation. His friends had started out nice enough and he enjoyed being with them. They raced speederbikes, hung out and worked on the machines. Then they started stealing parts to enhance their machines, which didn't sit well with Mercury. Then they started challenging other kids to race against their enhanced bikes for ownership – so they could strip the speeders' parts and sell them. It was then he realized that he needed to get out and go home.

Had he been able to do so, he'd probably have met his father at the gates and the whole incident would have gone over smoothly. But the authorities had been watching the parts theft ring for a long time and chose that night to make the arrest. They came into the depot on mass and arrested all the kids just as Jarl was arriving. He tried to speak to people in charge but they wouldn't listen, telling Jarl to go to the station to make arrangements. Mercury saw his father talking to the authorities and assumed that his father had turned in him and his friends.

It took awhile to sort out but Mercury was released to his father with a mark on his record. The authorities had been more interested in the people in charge of the racket and Jarl had some pull with the community. Mercury came home and became more sullen and withdrawn. Jarl sold the bike and swore that Mercury would never ride one again. Mercury had big fights with his father, each accusing the other of many things and eventually he moved out of his father's home and moved in with his brother Starn. Biel took the move poorly, crying a lot and generally upset that her favourite brother was now gone.

Starn took his baby brother in, but insisted that he had to work in order to earn his keep. He got Mercury a job at the shipyard so he'd be able to keep an eye on him. Mercury worked as a loader in the junkyards and got to meet a number of people at the yards, including pilots. He found himself interested in their stories. He found an old flight simulator in the junkyard and rebuilt it to teach himself piloting skills.

One day, Mercury was asked to deliver some parts to a shipping yard. He was told to give them to a Captain Thom Dulo of the Kul Kura. He wandered around looking at all the ships until he found the Corellian CR90 Corvette. Mercury saw the hatch door was open, so he entered. A ship's hand told him to put the parts in the hold and wandered off. Mercury did so, but when he did, he accidentally knocked the bar that was bracing the door open. Only when the door was closed did he realize why it was braced open – the handle on the other side was broken and the door was locked from without.

It was two days after the ship launched that a crew member found him there. By then, the ship had already jumped to hyperspeed and was long away from Corellia. At first, he was considered a stowaway but the Captain believed his story. He offered Mercury a position on the ship for awhile, a chance to see the universe so to speak. He would let Mercury send his family a message and then he'd drop Mercury off back on Corellia when he was next heading there. He was open and honest that it would be a year at least.

Captain Thom became a friend to Mercury and a mentor. The young man enjoyed life in space, and learning new skills. A year passed and the chance of going to Corellia was put off for two years. Mercury kept in contact with his family, sending regular messages to his brothers and sisters. He did send messages to his father, but his father never replied. Feeling that his father has abandoned him, Mercury has decided he is no hurry to get home again.

In actuality, Jarl feels he failed Mercury as a father and wishes his son would come home. He can't find a way to say what he wants to say in a holo-message or a transmission, so he keeps on hoping he will have a chance to see his son again.

    HISTORY
Ziv Aland was born under the twin moons of Contruum, with a hydrospanner in his hand. His father was a shipwright on one of the orbital shipyards, making decent credits but absent from the home for the most part.

Throughout his teenage years, Ziv apprenticed under a Mon Calamari mechanic named Akou. Akou was highly skilled and ran a brisk business, catering mostly to clients with “rush jobs” and “special orders”. Naïve, Ziv remained clueless to his boss’ shadier dealings, which suited the squid just fine. Akou liked the boy’s creativity when it came to dealing with technical problems.

Around Ziv’s nineteenth birthday, Akou approached the young lad with an opportunity to travel the stars with one of their long time clients, Thom Dulo, Captain of the Kul Kura, a passenger transport. Ziv was familiar with the ship, with its captain, and even more so with the engine room chief, Lana. The two of them had often argued the fine points of the latest technologies. To be honest, Ziv had a minor crush on the woman.

Ziv has been working in the engine room of the Kul Kura for just over one standard year. His has a good relationship with Lana, though the two continue to argue. He is unaware of the ship’s shadier business transactions.
