Subject: Well - have to close this shop up!

I was using this forum as a neutral way to entice new players to the PBeM, but I can no longer muse strategies here because it appears that some of my rival players have somehow found me yakking.

So, as the Corsairs STAY NEUTRAL, I will close this thread up.

I will try to keep matters less tactical if I continue to use this thread. It will merely be updates on the battles.

I love it when our bridges are collapsing in this great nation of ours, an estimated $200bn (per MSNBC) is needed to make them safe - and Condileeza Rice just signs over $80m to Palestine to help them get their act together.

I love it when these high profile celebrities, like George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Angela Jolie et. al., make a big fuss about going over to Africa to adopt poor children and ignoring all the starving poor orphans in their own country.

I love it when we are losing people every day to a war no one wanted and were hoodwinked into getting into and all the reports on the news focuses merely on Paris Hilton's jail time and Whoopi Goldberg becoming the new "moderator" for "the View".

Subject: Plans to go Dark?

Some initial tactical musings with the Sauronic team has given the Corsairs greater options in going EVIL.

The Cloud Lord, Ji Indur of the Nazgul, has promised to use his agents to kill any southland incursions of enemy commanders who march on the Corsairs of Umbar. Good.

The Witch-King of Angmar has written he would love to see the fine ships of the Corsairs making raids up and down the Cardolani coast in Eriador.

The Fire King has thrown his armies at Minas Ithil and will keep us abreast of the results there.

The Dragon Lord of Dol Guldur has also sent a message to the Havens of Umbar with entreaties of friendliness for the Corsairs to go Dark.

Please see the first post for the URL for the general game forum thread.

Subject: What the Nazgul Says ...

It is a belated update on the Sauronic forces from Adunaphel, the Quiet Avenger. It appears that for the most part the Dark Servants are confident that they are beginning the change the early fortunes of the war, especially in Eriador. The Witch-King of Angmar has stymied the Cardolani forces altogether and his constituent, the Dragon Lord of Dol Guldur have been holding their own against (what they claim) is a confused Free Nation offensive.

The hard-charging Eothraim have been checked north of Mordor, but the carnage that is Minas Ithil is yet being waged. In this meat-grinder of armies, it is difficult who has the upper hand; both sides are boastful. All accounts state that it is imperative that the Dark Servants capture Minas Ithil in the first stages of the game, or they will be lost. It will be interesting to see who holds the advantage in Ithilien.

Subject: Corsairs Have Submitted Their Turn

So now, my sea lords are at work consolidating the fleet and the 1st Army. A Faltur and Sarazor make armor and weapons; Tyreath tries once again to create a camp out in the desert wastes.

As the Corsairs make ready for Turn 3, heralds from both Southern Gondor and the Noldor Elves show up in the Havens of Umbar. They say that the war is a tough one in the north, and the fact that the primary Cardolan armies have been ousted by the Witch King of Angmar in Eriador. It is curious, they state, that the agents of the Dark Lord have not yet attempted assassinations and thefts across the land; no doubt they are making a strong company and will wreak havoc soon. They implore us to make haste in declaring for the side of the Free and the Good!

The Witch King's messengers indirectly offer the Corsairs friendship and all they can do to provide us those necessary considerations to have us on the side of Sauron.

My Lords Angamaite and Teldumeir remind the enthusiastic Noldor messengers that a bold early declaration from the Corsairs will doom us. No doubt they are worried; but they must see to it that they can at least stand on equal footing with the Nazgul in the interim.

Subject: New Book - New Chapter

While my book, Dark Water, is out being reviewed, I have my second book waiting in the wings to be submitted late next month or early September. It's somewhat a "Harry Potter" meets "Da Vinci Code". Yeah. Below is the first chapter and any help on it will be greatly appreciated.

Suspended – shadow in light – in a shower of glass. Pain, yes, but not enough to matter, and though the headlong crash through the bottom window dazed him, the sorcerer never thought that tonight he might actually die.
Gasping, he looked around. The sorcerer cast his hands outward, a shiver of blackness rippling the air like a miniature tsunami. A breath … two … gasp in – gasp out … he was ready. Silence – he thought, snapping his head at the dull burnish glow of the lamps along the walk through the park.
Chimes? Jingling … jingling … jingling …
Philip Dark – some people in his circle liked to call him Philip Darkness – bit into the back of his hand, his teeth breaking the skin. Blood painted his lips. He snapped his hand away, staring at the palm.
… lines of perfect blue …
Time may have stopped, and he cocked his head back, wiping his lips with the back of his sleeve. With eyes darting, he ran. He ran as the streaks of park lights blurred past him.
Chimes. Faint – far away.
He suddenly saw the streetlights ahead die – one by one – in the rain. The first one to go winked out at the far corner, its neighbor following suit, and the third…
… closer …
He fumbled in his pocket at took out his bone bag. In a tangle of sorcerers, one must be prepared.
Another streetlight winked out, crashing the avenue into blackness.

Somewhere in the heart of the city, the rain fell on him. The gloom of the early evening shed somber horror and the leafless oaks in the park, haunted.
Getting darker – yes – dark, absolutely dark: darkness for Dark. Philip shuddered, a means of chill that was by no means Fahrenheit, but a sudden drawing of cold from unseen windows. The avenues stretched on into the night, deserted – a strange scene for such an early hour in New Orleans. It was as if a spell had coated the streets and shut away even the most determined. He stopped in his tracks, terrified. The glowing electric lamps were reminiscent of their gaslight ancestors, and they bestowed eerie halos of gold and white radiance as they lined the avenues, yet not enough to dispel the shadows that crept along the sidewalks and the side of the buildings. The sorcerer stuffed his hands in his coat pockets and stared, his eyes narrow slits and his feet apart.
The bone bag bit into his palm, but he felt no pain. Philip cast a look back at the park, catching sight of a swirling cloud of fireflies – it seemed – above the bare bones of the trees. Mesmerized, he stared – mouth agape, eyes wide …
… closer …
He whirled around as headlights crashed across the avenue, blinding him in the rain. He slammed hard against the side of a post, but was oblivious to the impact as he hurtled across the street; the car swerved to miss him, horn blaring.
The passing headlights of traffic couldn’t dispel the darkness of the streets as he ran by. Steam rose from manhole covers – misty angels – spreading wings in the cold air of night.
It moved in the balance of light and shadow … a blur the sorcerer saw in spasms. That’d been the nature of his death hex; someone had sent a demon to rip him up. Rip him. Up. Yet Philip had a few tricks, and he ran across streams and broken, gushing water pipes. The demon, confounded, moved barely out of perception with him.
Philip staggered into the alley leading to his apartment behind the old Brienne Library, then leaned against the grimy brick wall, his hands to his face. He would send the last secret to Artemis – his younger brother – but doubted it would be of use.
Darkness.
The night.
He cast a look back at the following gloom, but the sight was obscure … and for that moment he recalled a greenish mist from the Tablet, and the name …
Trismegistus
Yet – whom could he trust? Artemis – no! No. His brother was far away … far and far away …
Chimes. Faint – beyond the air and the shadows … closing on him.
Philip strained to listen: the traffic on the boulevard – far down the alley. He gave a quick glance at the back door of the old library and then took the wooden stair up to his apartment. He tore open the door at the landing, casting sound like daggers into the night, slamming his weight against it once he was inside.
There was only a moment of quick action: preparations of a spell. A deadly spell. The sorcerer took his bone bag and crossed it over the threshold of the door, and then focused his will on the portal. A second later and a faint gold illuminated the door and passed away.
All at once now – still. No chimes, no buzzing, no clicking. The darkness was left outside.
Philip nervously twisted the deadbolt closed, reaching into his pocket to pull out a pinch of yellow powder. With a breath, he cast the powder on the door – the outline of the portal glowed briefly orange and blue.
That would grant him some time.
He surveyed the chaos of his living room; broken furniture, papers and books littered the floor. A naked skull – misshapen because it was not human, or animal for that matter – glared at him with sightless black orbs from its perch above the old clock.
Tick … tick … tick …
He threw candle wax down on the carpet, simultaneously casting down a splash of tap water. He closed his eyes, rumbling a cascade of syllables.
Tick … tick … tick …
Philip grabbed his phone base and began mumbling, holding the fingers of his free hand splayed outward. He flipped open the tape lid and checked the cassette. It was old – analog – but it would work. Quickly he thumbed the dialer and switched the tape on. A cold feminine greeting rolled when Artemis’ line picked up. Then the tape failed.
The second hand on the clock stopped moving.
A waft of cold ruffled his hair. Heart pounding, the sorcerer grabbed a heavy, wax-encrusted candlestick from the floor. There was hardly any light, but within the shadows in the kitchen, something moved. Philip entered, fumbling with a free hand for the light switch.
The room jumped out stark and lonely. The small window over the sink was open, cold air blowing the curtains. Relieved, Philip went over and shut the window.
A buzzing from behind made him whirl around, just as the lights went out. The candlestick rocketed from his grip and crashed into the wall, spraying sparks. Flames shot from the sorcerer’s hands and the entire world was swallowed in orange and red.
Then darkness in all but silence. It was over.

Subject: A Message from the Haradwaith

For those of you who are reading this and liked the movie, "Return of the King", the Haradwaith were the guys with the big elephants. Of course, my nation is the one with those wicked ships who got plastered by Aragorn and the Dead Army. The Easterlings were those guys that Frodo and Sam ran into at the Gates of Morannon in "The Two Towers".

The Harad messenger has told me he will be recruiting more in the north, and I'm certain that this will eventually lead us into war with each other. I'm hoping he'll declare first, meaning, declaring for the "Good" or the "Evil" sides. If he goes "Evil", that will be good because I'm leaning that way. If he goes "Good" and I still want to go "Evil", I'll spend most the game fighting him.

Another neutral neighbor, the Easterlings, have reportedly had a skirmish with one of the Nazguls - the Long Rider. If the Easterlings become sore and declare to go "Good", this may cause trouble on the eastern front if I go "Evil" later on.

Dark Water has been at RLR Associates now for 4 weeks. Yes, Big Al, this is the same novel you were reading some months ago. I hope to hear something good in the next few weeks.

I have a second novel in the wings right now, awaiting submission in August or September, depending upon the success of Dark Water. Funny, but some readers found the main character a little abrasive.

I am currently redrafting a novel about crime and the Chinese Underworld. It's first draft was completed back in 1994; you can understand how long I've been sleeping with that one! Explicit, violent, one agent termed me as "the Quentin Tarantino of Literature" in reference to that book.

My latest short story hasn't gotten anywhere. Damn - and I like that one! I can sell genre fiction, but when I put together something literary and "mainstream", there are no takers!

The battle for middle earth has commenced in earnest. From the west it seems the Northmen are to bear the brunt of an assault by the DogLord and Long Rider..they have combined forces at the NM capital but are opposed by strong men and their dwarven allies. This will be a bloody encounter indeed.

Also, in Rhun the Easterlings have been involved in a skirmish w/ the LR but no details have been released from their emissaries to ours...this we are watching closely.

The CloudLord and Blind Sorcerer are also making due haste to the eastern side of Middle Earth, indeed the Northmen will need more support if he is to remain in Rhun...

In Mirkwood, the Dragon Lord has moved 4 armies of differing size into the Woodmen's Realm...they will be countered by men, elves, and dwarves...mirkwood will remain in the free people's fold...

the foul Witch King of Angmar has stopped the incursion of the Cardolani but more troops poor into his borders and Arthedain cannot be far behind...

No other details are available at this time...

Subject: Results are in for Turn 2

The Corsairs have had some mixed success with failures this turn, but everything is somewhat all right, though due to some order sequencing troubles (movement *after* pertinent orders rather than *before*).

Captain Adumir is successful putting his forces on maneuvers and moving them to the Havens of Umbar.

My Lord Angamaite had similar orders and was successful.

Lady Eadur had trouble getting sequencing right and was unable to accomplish an important task of removing an unnecessary structure.

My Lord Faltur was successful in finding a new agent named Sarazor to join our ranks! He is of remarkable ability. My Lord Faltur also transferred some steel to the capitol.

Our resident mage, Meriot, was successful in researching a very important spell and increasing his overall magical prowess.

M'lord Mireadur, tasked with domestic concerns, was able to find a new emissary named Maethlin, and transported bronze stores to the capitol.

Once again our emissary, Sangahyando, failed. He was to set up a camp in the desert waste, but due to sequencing troubles and all-out failure, this camp was not established.

M'lord Teldumeir put troops in a training program and moved them to the capitol.

Lady Tyreath also suffered from sequencing troubles and was unable to establish a new camp, wasting valuabe time and expense.

Comment. Establishing the camps were of priority, and both failed dismally. The Corsairs have noted that our neighbor, the Haradwaith, has been recruiting forces in the north. The naming of the two new characters is very important, and luckily we were successful.

Subject: Umbar Completes Her Orders for Turn 2

It is a busy time for the Corsairs of Umbar. Though still neutral in the outlook towards the Evil and the Good, the Princes of the Sea must make the most of their neutrality or be swept away once they declare.

Top priority at this time is sending Tyreath and Sangahyando out into the far eastern desert at special confluxes to establish new camps. These are imperative not only for their recources and economy, but also to keep a watch on the eastern approaches. One such camp no doubt will sport a tower on the road from the north.

The Corsairs army, though meager offensively, is in training and the fleets have moved to the Havens of Umbar for consolidation. Lords Faltur and Mireadur are making the most of military preparations for the inevitable war.

The Haradwaith have moved an army south to one of their coastal townships, but at the moment is little threat. If they declare for the opposite side as the Corsairs, there will be trouble.:-/

Messengers have been sent from the 9th of the Nazgul, Adunaphel (Quiet Avenger):

"In the North the WK is already under attack by Cardolan (and will lose a town this turn) and we can see Rhudaur apparently recruiting heavily.
The Dragon Lord will be attacking Woodmen population centres this turn and will destroy 2 camps and a village, he'll lose a camp and a village himself. An FP army is approaching the Dragon Lord back-up at 3822.
In the Ithil Pass the FK and Dark Lts armies have met a lot of North Gondor armies, but will be able to destroy them.
Morannon is secure and the Dog Lord will take/destroy a NG town this turn.
The Dark Lts have intercepted Eothraim and NG armies at 3219
The Long Rider navy has met the Sinda navy."

The Corsairs of Umbar have been blessed with tidings from the Free Nations of Middle Earth, keeping we neutrals abreast of events of the Great War of 1650, Third Age.

The Noldor Elves, led by Cirdan and Elrond, have told us that the Witch King blitzed the Woodmen settlements in the Anduin Vales, and that the fearsome Dragon Lord has "come out fighting" but apparently hasn't done much damage as expected.

The Eothraim, ancestors of the Riders of Rohan, and their allies of Northern Gondor caught a large army led by Urzahil (Mouth of Sauron) of the Dark Lieutenants on the Rhovanion Plains north of Mordor.

Southern Gondor also weighs in, reporting that the great Battle of Minas Ithil found its defenders successful in keeping the Dark Servants from taking it. The Gondorians are grateful that the Nazgul, the Ice King, hadn't shown up to reinforce his brethren in the Pass of Cirith Ungol. No doubt that puts a dark note on the Dark Servants' position. From what the Corsairs of Umbar can tell, this will almost give the Gondorians free reign to raid and pillage western Mordor.

We understand that diplomatic mistakes can be made, we ourselves sent messengers in error to the Long Rider thinking that they were the

they are sent to your enemies rather than an ally or a neutral."

It appears that the Easterlings nation under Ovatha II sends a general message to all the nations of Middle Earth:

"Greetings from our peoples. We will respect your borders if you respect our borders. We are strong, don't anger us! Tros Hesneth and Ovatha II."

Hmm, well, my Lord Mireadur feels that the message is boastful, but not belligerent. That's a good thing for now.

Results
There were some troubles doing domestic removals of prominent population center structures.

Main agenda was to increase our income and base economics; this was done admirably. The Corsairs of Umbar are now in the black due to increasing our tax base and retiring unnecessary forces! Yay!

The mage, Meriot, failed to research the spell he was after, however, he did increase his overall magic ability.

A new emissary has been hired to assist us! And not only that, she has an exceptional ability.

Seems that my first turn has met with some mixed success and failures. Luckily, as a neutral, there are no pressing concerns and no enemies at the gate!

Diplomacy
No indication from the Easterlings, which is a bad thing. The player here may not have internet access/no email, or must rely on snail mail. Either way, there is no word.:-/

A messenger from the Noldor was intercepted, bearing tidings for the Dunlendhings. Although there was no critical information, the Corsairs felt it was best to notify to the elves that they must be careful dispatching their messages to the wrong nation. As we all well know, the Corsairs did that!

Subject: Diplomacies - the Meat for a Neutral Nation

As a neutral nation in this game, I receive a ton of email and messages from both the Free Nations of Middle Earth and the Dark Servants of Sauron. Since this is a 2-week game, there is a pause between actions. These are the times when the forums at www.mepbm.com and emails are lit up with talk.

From the Messenger of South Gondor:

"The only thing that can ruin the Corsairs day is an aggressive and well played Harad declaring differently, but you've got a fair few turns yet before that will happen.

Talking of Harad he tells me the DS were quiet initially but are now being more friendly. The Free team, particularly the Noldor (!) never seem to stop chatting. Its certainly good not to have to play in a vacuum though and have people to bounce ideas off.

Hope we can convince you to ditch the black sails and skull and crossbones. Pirates are so passe' these days!"

It has been now a few days since entertaining the messengers from those nations bearing tidings. Lord Faltur, wary over the mistake of sending to the wrong nation himself, plans to deal with his subordinates.

However, new messengers arrive belated, and they come at the same time from opposing nations: Southern Gondor, the fell Dragon Lord, and the Quiet Avenger. Heated words are spoken between those factions, and steel would shine if it weren't for the vigilance of the House Guard.

The message from Southern Gondor echoes those of her allies, and they are cordial, if somewhat subdued.

The Dragon Lord, Khamul, senses that the Corsairs of Umbar, though neutral, may be friendly to the agents of Sauron. They hope much, but Prince Teldumeir keeps his cards close to the vest.

And lastly, the words of a humble Quiet Avenger are respectful, promising "not to do anything foolish" to ignite the ire of Umbar. Yet, Prince Teldumeir is kind and tells the messenger of Adunaphel that there are no restrictions to her fleets; they may hide in the Bay of Umbar from the Gondorians if need be.

The bad news comes quickly from the court. Prince Teldumeir and Lord Faltur are speaking over a long table of roasted fowl and succulent fruits from the lands of Ardor. With them are their wives, Andwen and Ommanda.

The doors burst open and suddenly Dulmir, the Chief Advisor comes hastening in. "My Lords!" He shouts, obviously in distress.

"What is it, dollard, to come crashing into our dinner as so?" Prince Teldumeir wants to know, but his voice remains even and soft under his anger.

"The messengers sent to the Easterlings got the wrong names, sire! They thought that "Uvatha" was the Lord of the Easterlings. He *is* not!"

Teldumeir and Faltur look at each other quizzically. Then, the Prince of the Havens gives this look to the advisor. "So tell me, Dulmir, who then is the Lord of the Easterlings?"

Dulmir squeaks, "Ovatha, my lords. Ovatha II."

"And so, the messengers took our tidings to Uvatha? I see the difference: 'U' and an 'O'."

"Yes, my lord!"

"Who is Uvatha?"

Dulmir, with his eyes wide, his voice quivering, says, "The Long Rider, my lords. One of the Agents of Sauron."

Teldumeir stands up, throws his rag on the table. "What? Our message has gone to the Long Rider?"

"Yes my lord," squeaks the advisor.

The Prince sinks in his large chair, burying his face in his hands. Not even the entreaties of his wife, Andwen, can placate his embarrassment.

No doubt this will prove to be a long game...

Subject: Nations

Playable Nations
Arlindon. A Sidhe (Elven) Kingdom in the south, although there is a heavy influx population of mannish races (especially in the port capitol of Aeglarmar). Their king is Aegnor Nalthallion. They have no great standing armed forces and must rely on some very outstanding characters.

Carthum. The last holding of the Maedran (Dwarvish), Carthum has just begun a policy to become more influential diplomatically and financially, discarding their isolationist behavior. They are somewhat remote, but their emissaries have been far-ranging. They have some resources, but are lacking in sufficient financial growth. Tough armies when they can recruit, but they have no cavalry and of course, no navy.

Chey. This is a nation of Eastroun (human) inhabiting the far eastern Dorbadic Wastes. They are excellent with cavalry, but they are suffering from low resources and are becoming unstable financially. They are in a light border war with Narwondor, to the north.

Coranth. One of the nations of the Ardorean Valdecli, in the far south, this kingdom is made up of Carhanadons (human). They have just conquered the Dorbadic city-state of Treste and may be precipitating full scale war against the Coa’Andil Dorbadi. They are tethered to the other seven Dominions, and have a hard time doing anything by themselves without first talking to the others. Great navies and a good army.

Dardans, Nor Erelion. This is a group of Dardan (human) clans in eastern Endaur, led by Clanhaft Targir, son of Formar. They are somewhat fragmented and hard to unite under one banner, and they suffer financial woes. Great raiders, however and they aren’t very well-liked …

Hyr Dalvasor. A mannish kingdom, led by King Imlach II. They are trying to gain power and a strong economic position in Endaur, under the shadow of Urland. They are average in most things, but are growing rapidly. They have two major port cities: Harne and Camlan.

Ibanvaal. A remnant of a once-great northern pendragon, Ibanvaal has found itself in a wearisome 7-year long war with its neighbor, Menglana. Menglana is becoming stronger, and it looks like the Ibanvaals will need to consider their options. They are financially strapped and must, like most northern nations, rely on Viking and raiding. A swift navy and some hearty warriors, they are few in number.

Nor Glantron. This was once the upper half of the Great Kingdom of Glantron ere its fall to the Black Princes over 240 years ago. Since liberated, this carillion (human) nation has become a Republic, sundering itself from its neighbor, Syr Glantron, a monarchy. The Nor Glantroni have excellent cavalry and great warriors, but they are on the doorstep of the Black King and are facing many foes …

Osgerith. A republic of “free” folk, this mannish nation struggles with some internal unrest and growing corruption. There are some internal factions threatening to overthrow the High Council. However, once these things are settled, Osgerith could become the dominant force in Thondaur.

Syr Glantron. The last remnant of the fallen Kingdom of Glantron, this nation is in the southlands and on the doorstep of the Black King. They face powerful foes on their eastern flank, but they have an outstanding navy and a formidable army, although they, like many, are suffering from lack of funds.

Sarlond. This major city-state along the western coast of Dorbad has a strong, economically-strong base. They are the seat of the lucrative Southern Trade Alliance. The Dorbadic nation, however, is sundered from other city-states and faces strong foes in the desert and from the Ardorean Valdecli.

The Sidhe Nations (Union of Aegnor). The Sidhe High Queen, Avaanyr of Caras Chanadon, has announced Braenthae of Ossendindhros to be her heir. What this means is that Lady Avaanyr may step down soon from the overlordship of all the Sidhe Nations. This means also that the Crown of Mithril will go to Ossedindhros. This is the first time ever that a Callanendor ruler has named a Nargenndon as a successor. there have been some disgruntled murmurings from other sidhe rulers, especially King Aegnor of Arlindon - Queen Braenthae's uncle.

Meanwhile, Allariand and Caras Chanadon are following a policy of isolation concerning matters non-sidhe. Their hidden cities of Avanthond and Caras Chanadon make this policy extremely viable.

Arlindon is in a precarious balance; it is ruled by a sidhe king and a sidhe senate, yet their main port city of Aeglarmar is becoming largely dominated by a majority of human races such as Engrimm and Dorbadi.

Ossedindhros is following a strict "passive diplomatic" stance with outside races. Although technically Western Alliance friendly, they choose to mediate over Endaurean disputes rather than commit overwhelmingly to any side.

The Western Alliance. This military alliance, chiefly made up of Urland, Hyr Dalvasor and Zharak, are having tense issues over the tribute garnered from Syr Erelion. Relations are at an all-time low and may go lower. The muldrimm of Zharak are pursuing a policy of passive diplomacy in regards to this, but doe to their involvement in the Alliance, will need to consider what side they choose to be on.

Urland is facing troubles in the north too, in trying to keep it's northern holdings against the Seldenbaal Pendragon. Urland, a carillion kingdom, is the dominant force in Endaur and quite possibly the most powerful singular nation in Aetalanta. Losing influence in southern Endaur, they no longer gain tribute from the Dardan Tribes of Syr Erelion.

Hyr Dalvasor is strengthening it's position along the coasts and in Dunlendh. King Imlach II has begun to pressure in annexing Syr Erelion to his realm; this is causing the major rift in the Western Alliance.

The Coa'Andil Dorbadi. Sarlond and Ganarth T'Abuur have launched themselves into a fierce debate for war against the Ardorean Valdecli in the liberation of Treste. This will no doubt lead to full-scale war in the next few months. Coranth, one of the Ardorean dominions, conquered the Dorbadic city-state of Treste this past summer in a bid to force the Dorbadrimm to allow them access to the lucrative Southern Trade Alliance. The Dorbadi are trying desperately to gain support from other members of the STA.

The Black Watch. Crown Princess Idryll II Flendhmar of Syr Glantron is stepping up the diplomatic pressure to incorporate the Republic of Nor Glantron under her rule. This may also lead to war.

Thondaurean Affairs. Osgerith is dealing with the influx of Dardan/Engrimm refugees from the destroyed Kingdom of Brynthor. Carthum, the largest surviving nation of maedran, has thrown off their isolationist policy and are now pursuing rigorously for stronger diplomatic influence in Thondaur. Also, the Republic of Dor Rhunnen is gaining some added clout, but are facing increasing raids from the myriad Haruunic Tribes closeby. In the far north of Thondaur, the dardan nation of the Nanceldui have remained stagnant and aloof of most other affairs in this region.

Auroreallis. The "Northmen Kingdoms" have had their share of hardships. Chiefest of these is the 7-year war between the Pendragondom of Ibanvaal and Menglana. The Seldenbaal Pendragon, encompassing the nations of Seldenbaal, Balisheim and Gilben have been chafing under the tribute sent to Urland - their conquerors. Only Gilben has had a reprieve from this.

The Ardorean Valdecli. Made up of seven "dominions", Coranth, Gaurmir, Elorna, Mispir, Sar Imdan, Sar Morthan, and Vanarthrond, they have been lobbying unsuccessfully for entry into the southern Trade Alliance. As stated above, Coranth has taken the bold step of conquering the Dorbadic city-state of Treste to force a full scale war or forcible entry into the STA.

Holdings of the Black King of Thangarthond. The Dark One has been silent now for nigh on 4 decades. Not even his Mord Wraiths have been seen abroad.

The Wraith King of Nargarmyr. This evil nation has been all-but defunct for the last 200 years. Again, it appears, that the Black Princes have withdrawn entirely from the face of the earth ...

Subject: After the Harad Messenger Leaves ...

Lord Faltur, weary of the last week's preparations, sits resigned on the high throne in Prince Teldumeir's stead. He can see the red-orange sunset beyond the high pinnacles of the far sea towers.

He considers his message and what is the best action in the long run:

To join the Free Nations of Middle Earth, they will have to focus on destroying Adunaphel, the Quiet Avenger, immediately. If the Haradwaith go Dark in this matter, Umbar will need to sink their navy quickly and blow the bridge on the River Harnen. This will effectively cut the Harad nation in two, and mastery of the seas is the most important qualification for the Corsairs.

If Umbar is to join the agents of Sauron, the Dark Servants, then the prime factor would be to build up the fleet and launch coastal attacks as far north as Cardolan, with an emphasis on capturing Dol Amroth first. If the Haradwaith go Light in this matter, the same principle applies as above.

Now, what of the Easterlings? They too are a threat, one way or another. If they remain silent ... perhaps a joint venture with the Haradwaith to destroy the Easterling's southern holdings is imminent.

Faltur smiles; yet these matters are not up to him, but of the decision of the Princes of the Sea: Angamaite and Teldumeir. They are the ones who will decide this, in time...
