Topic: Memorable NPCs?
Subject: The ... Armorer

In one of my earlier Aetalanta campaigns, I had a lesser/carillion armorer living in the port city of Harne on the Dalvasian Coast.

His name was Thithmir and he was outrageously GAY. He looked at armor as fashion - not protection - and would flaunt about with the player characters consulting them on what would give them "flaire" and not mentioning how little AC the armor afforded.

Another good NPC character in Aetalanta (in Harne also) is Scarlet Jack. A fun-loving thematic spirit who takes on the guise of a red-haired boy of about 13, he is the "Prince of Thieves". Scarlet Jack is a Urigonil, a powerful spirit of nature, but he would rollick around the streets of Harne gettig the poor Player Characters in no end of trouble.

Mercury didn't consider himself to be a bad fellow. After all, he was still young and although he's stolen a couple of things here and there throughout his life (mostly power couplings and tunnelers) he's never been involved in any criminal activities - well, at least, not directly.

The young Fringer knew better than to protest (matter-of-fact he had a phobia with authority), so he just sat before the sensor console and waited for the TDF to come barging in. He gave a thought about the passengers, but he'd only seen them in passing. A twi'lek, some self-absorbed human, some other faceless types - a red-haired guy; they would fend for themselves of course and the Duros didn't seem to worry about them.

If it was true - spice smuggling - the captain and the rest of the crew would face some hefty sentences. That's what scared Mercury more: he was an innocent and he would be sent away for something he had nothing to do with.

He twirled around in the console chair just as the TDF came rigidly onto the bridge ...

Subject: Tanaab System

I found this on wookieepedia

Taanab was a planet of green meadows in the Taanab system. It was primarily used for agriculture and farming. Its populace was known for always maintaining an air of formality.

It was once a world covered in thick, inhospitable jungle, similar to Felucia. The CIS built a droid factory there, during the Clone Wars. After the Clone Wars, it was terraformed to an agricultural world to supply nearby worlds with food. The planet was especially known for its roba steak. Captain Mullinore was from the world.

The Battle of Taanab took place over its skies five months after the Battle of Yavin. In the battle, Lando Calrissian defeated attacking pirate raiders from Norulac.

Years later, Jedi Knight Jaden Korr went to Taanab to discover more about the operations going on there by the Disciples of Ragnos. Jaden battled a mutant rancor which the Disciples intended to release in a populated place so they could pillage the area during the chaos.

Subject: Mercury Falling (part II)

It appeared to Mercury that Captain Dulo was contemplating surrendering. The young Corellian scratched his head, thinking about the blaster he had in his locker and how far he might get with it if they were boarded. Suddenly there was a whirring alarm from the console and Mercury checked.

"Three more vessels," Mercury reported with a dry mouth, "one medium duty DR-400, two AT-150 fighters." Old, but serviceable. It made him want to cry - but the new ships could only be security forces.

The comm channel sparked to life. "This is Commander Albari of the Tanaab defense fleet. Both vessels, you are ordered to hold your positions!"

That will do it, Mercury hoped. Captain Dulo ordered his brother to immediately stand down, and Mercury was surprised when it appeared the stance of the pirate vessel did as well. Maybe the Tanaab Defense Force had more pull than he once believed ...

"Captain Dulo, you are hereby under arrest for illegal distribution of spice, intended distributon of spice, unlawful possession of spice, and arms smuggling. Prepare to be boarded."

Mercury scratched his head. The Duros were smuggling contraband? Oh - this was just great - great. Yet ... no ... he wouldn't believe it. There were some tubs and crates hidden in the aft hold but ... spice?

Well. Force cage time, no doubt ...

Mercury wiped his nose with his sleeve, his eyes darting on the array of instruments on the Primary Sensor Console. What first was nothing but the emptiness of the expanse of space became more claustrophobic when the EMC Display began to show the blue outline of an oncoming vessel. The outline of the blue ship rotated in a lighter blue haze that pulsed back and forth; numerical characters and indicators began to measure speed and size.

He glanced down at his terminal. "All clear, cap... wait." the young man bit off his routine report. "Captain, there's another vessel very near and closing fast!"

There was no answer from behind him at the COMM console. No surprise really, and perhaps for the best becase when Captain Dulo spoke Basic he was rather hard to understand anyway. Mercury gave the captain a look.

"Increase speed," he ordered. "Get us to the planet!"

Tebbo Huun was at the helm, and Mercury was somewhat envious; he loved pilotng when he had the chance, but it was apparent the Duros were not about to let him take over when there was trouble. Still, the feel of the drive's thrusters would be good through the main throttle, Mercury thought. It had to be pirates - who else would be attacking them out in the Tanaab system?

Mercury rubbed his nose. Being a transporter, they had little in the way of overt weaponry and could be easy prey for pirates. All considerations that the oncoming vessel was friendly dissipated when there was a shot off the Kul Kuura's port bow.

"Full power!" the transport's commanding officer odered. "Try to raise communications with Tanaab's defnese fleet." He keyed the intercom to the engine room. "Get me as much power as you can spare!" he barked.

Kola Dulo, the captain's brother, activated a distress signal, and the civilian crew hurried to obey the captain's wishes. "Captain," Kola reported, "they are asking to speak with you."

One of the viewscreens flared to life to review a nasty-looking human with a badly scarred face. "Dulo," he spoke, "Pulda the Hutt sends his regards. He is not happy to see that you did not accept his offer concerning your sideline spice business. He will, however, take your ship and your life as payment." Chcukling, the man cut the comm feed.

"A Hutt?" Shot Mercury. That's all they needed: to be either boarded and taken as slaves or be blown to spacedust. He gave a thought about the limited ship's gunnery because he didn't want to be taken without a fight. "Captain?"

It was posted onsite prior to the BIG crash, but I'll offer it here again for your use:

www.wookieepedia.com

A very good website for quick Star Wars galaxy info. The information provided can help flesh out a campaign in any era, even long before Darth Revan and after the founding of the New Jedi Order by Luke Skywalker.

Background:
Mercury Saran is a young jack-of-all-trades jock doing what he can to get around the Corellian lifestyle of hard work and drudgery of dull living. Born to a modest family of Corellian shipworkers, Mercury has just come of age to decide whether he wishes to take on an apprentice role under his father and two older brothers at the shipyards or maybe escape and find better fortunes in the galaxy at large.

However, just wishing for it to happen didn't seem to give him much direction until he was poking around a visiting Duro ship (a Corellian CR90 Corvette) at the launch pads. Unbeknownst to him, the ship was about to disembark and next thing you know - he was far away from his homeworld.

The Duros were spice smugglers under the front of legal transporters, but they were not unkind to their stowaway. Mercury worked onboard for [passage and even had a good friendship with Thom Dulo - the Duro captain.

Mercury is 16 years old and is somewhat selfish and self-absorbed; but he makes up for it in loyalty to friends and companions. One of his descendants, Simone Saran, will be a prominent Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars and the Jedi Purge.
