Subject: Soooo... is it just me and Zeph know

Just wondering if theirs anyone else still in this game cause I really like it nad where it's going but, it would be nice if we had more players.

On a seperate note I was wondering if we could bump the posting to a twice a week scheduale (and yes I know I havn't posted yet, I just tend to post last minute, I'll definetly get my post in tommorow). I do have enough time to check here almost every day so I could probably post twice a week too.

I don't want to get to hung up on my detective character idea, but as you said it would be good to have an inside contact with the police. I had an idea but threw it out when I saw that most of the police where bad or corupt. My idea is that my detective character would get alot of his cases from the SI (special investigations) branch of the police as they probably have the most encounters with the creatures in the darkness, and I'm one of the most knowledgable people in the area that knows about that stuff.

Just an idea I thought of, though I still don't know if it will work. One other thing though, I really don't like the fact that we're sticking to the morality system for exrocising ghosts. It's not that I have any want to create a character with a low morality score, it's just because it doesn't make sense to me, and I really don't like rules that don't make sense. If we could houserule some other restriction that would be fine, but I'd just like it if it made more sense. If you still want to keep it though I understand and will respect your decision.

Seeing his second attack deflected and the increasing number of kobolds around the already wounded Sintan, Darkon moves togo into position that will let Sintan move back, and let Zeph help Darkon attack the kobolds and let them protect each other from being flanked.

He attacks two kobolds and sees the wounded merchant about to be finished off by the two kobolds down the hill.

Darkon shouts "protect the merchant, me and Zeph will hold off the kobolds here".

OOC(Atk bonus as before, and i'm wondering if Levanna gets to choose the position of the summoned monster at the end of the summoning, so she could summon it down bye where the merchant is.)

Subject: More questions

You said that we were getting the credit for cleaning up the streets. Does that mean that the public knows who we are, or do they know that they're is a mysterious orginization that has been doing what the cops havn't been.

Also the vampire that we faced (at least I'm assuming it's a vampire) did we already know he was a vampire or did we just randomly have a stake around to attack him with, and then set him on fire.

And I want to know if we can get the other people that are part of the Neighborhood watch can pay their merits towards the safehouse, caches, secrecy, any contacts in the city, allies, etc, etc.

Assuming that they can't pay their merits toward the safehouse, I can put 4 towards it and take the other two I would have put into it into will now go into the reasources merit to pay for gear that we need at the safehouse. If Mr.Conquest can put in 4 as well we can make a fairly good safehouse with 3 caches, 3 dots in secrecy, and 2 for size. The caches would probably contain all variaties of gear from armour that ranges from medival to riot gear, to blessed weapons and explosizes for dealing with the supernatural resistances, to stakeout gear and a high power rifle plus scope to deal with tricky enemies that try to hide.

My final question is why do people need morality 8 or better to exrocise ghosts? The forces you use against the ghost are neither good nor evil, just your will versus it's. So I don't get why you would need any morality score to exrocise ghosts, especially since ghosts themselves aren't inherintly evil.

Thank you for patiently answering all my questions, cause i'm new to this game so theres probably alot more questions i'm going to ask.

Also this probably won't change anything but my character has maxed out proffesion as a detective, and has the Holistic sense merit and three dots in the occult. So even though he only has a presence score of two, he is probably somewhat known in the town as a supernatural detective around town.

Subject: Another Question

Mr.Conquest I have my character idea mostly ready but I want to know about some of the details we'll need to work collabrotivly on.

First and foremost is the safehouse. I read a pdf of Hunter: The vigil (I'll try to get an actual book soon), and it stressed alot of importance on the supplies a Hunter has to draw upon. Seeing as I have most of my merits already down and still have 5-6 spare merits to spend I was thinking of putting that down towards the safehouse. I wanted to know how much you would put foreward for the safehouse (if you have any spare merits) so we can decide how many points we can put in what. I was thinking of having a 3-4 dots in security, hopefully 5 dots in the cache so we have a lot of gear and reasources to draw upon (and one part of that gear would be an armoured truck that can hold all are gear quickly and easily in case the safehouse is compromised, if the Skari-dono allows) and 2-3 dots in size as we probably aren't going to need a huge base of opperations. The variables for the numbers represent how much you contribute to the safehouse though they can be changed further. When some other players at the inn join and they help with the safehouse as well we could have some of the dots bumped up 1 or two and a second, less secure, less fancy "spare safehouse is made in case of destruction, or compromise of the first safehouse. These are just ideas I'm throwing out there, if you have anything better, please tell me.

The other part of my question to you is our backstories, and how we would have meet. I have an idea and you can tell me if you like it. I'm unsure what your character's backstory is, but maybe this addition will fit smoothly. My character, who is a detective was on the trail of a case that he belived to involve the paranormal. He was getting close to the end and then he found you when you first were fighting the darkness. In you he saw that glimmer of the Vigil. He went to your aid and helped you take down the creature(s) of the darkness that you were facing (for this part to make it still sound like a tough and dangerous first fight with the creatures from dark you can either double the number of enemies or if it's one guy, just give him alot of mooks for me to fight). After that and seeing how well you handeld yourself (plus that glimmer of the Vigil) my guy invites your character to help him protect the neighbor hood and either gives him directions to the safehouse if you don't have many merits to spare or if you do contribute alot that can represent an upgrade in safehouse size and/or the safehouse cache.

This is all assuming that you fought a creature of the dark as your first real exposure to the Vigil. If you didn't then we can try to come up with something else.

This system seems really cool, and I like it alot.

I'm thinking of making a detective character who uses his sword, pistol, martial arts, and willpower to take on all kinds of nasties. I'm not quite done with making my character yet, but I've got most of the details down.

I just have one question about the system, it seems like guns really aren't any better than the melee weapons when it comes to a fight(like they would be in a real fight), and it seems to me that most fights simply can't be won in one round no matter how skilled you are with a certain weapon because of how high you have to roll on the d10 just to get a single hit. I was just curious if this was normal for the rules and I wasn't misreading anything.

Forest

Darkon has his swords out as he sees his companions preparing their attacks. He sees Zeph deep in concentration casting a spell. He remembers Zeph saying that he doesn't caster, so whatever spell he's casting must be pretty important. He waits to see Zeph's plan. He then sees another wolf appear and attack the kobolds. Then all chaos breaks loose.

Darkon sees that both Sintan and the summoned wolf will get overrun by kobolds soon. The summoned one isin't going to last much longer, so I should go and help Sintan.

Darkon races toward the kobolds around Sintan and attacks two of them with his scimitars
(Atk:+5/+5, dmg 1d6+5/dmg 1d6+2. On an unrelated note I belive that summoned creatures last for 1 round/caster level, so your wolf will probably last another round)

Is it very sunny out? I was wondering because I think the kobolds have light sensitivity and would be affected by it.

Also what does each kobold look like? Are there any that look like spellcasters, is one clearly the leader, or do they all look basically the same?

I hope it was a good post, I made it kinda quickly. I just wanted to make sure that I got something done before the next post happened.

I also hope that while I did take charge again there, it was only based on the plans discussed before, and no one else had posted. So I hope the characters won't think that my character is bosing them around again, as I'd rather not get into that disagrement again.

Day 3-Week 1

Darkon turns to face the direction the sound came from. He then says to the rest "This could be our test; however the test might be to see if we fall into a trap. Let's proceed toward the area quietly and look around first. Me, Sintan, and Zeph will take the lead, while Kiirnon and Levanna take the back to cover us with spells and arrows the way we talked about before. If anyone has better ideas suggest it now, but do so quickly."

(Assuming no one says anything I approach the area using my move silently +6, hide +6 to move there sneakily, and spot +2 to look around for traps and whats going on)

Tuesday-Wednesday Week 1

Darkon Agrees with Kiirnon's plan then accepts his handshake. He is a little suprised by this, but happy. Hopefully we just got off on the wrong foot he thinks to himself. He then heads off to bed for his trance.

Luckily nothing goes with trancing this time, and Darkon feels refreshed, energized, and hopeful that today will work out better than the days before it.

He sets out into the forest, trying to learn the paths it has as soon as he can, in case the knowledge will be useful sometime in the future. While he's taking it all in he sees that it's a really amazing forest. Darkon hopes that he'll be able to spend more time here. Shaking his thoughts about what might be he focuses on the task at hand. He quickly finds Kiirnon and Zeph and meets with them.

He says "Have either of you two seen the instructor yet?"

Darkon

Tuesday-Week 1

Darkon listens to both Zeph and Kiirnon, while he stands by the door. He turns slightly to address Kiirnon first.

Darkon says "I think you have misinterpreted what I said when I was electing myself as leader. I simply meant to lead for this mission as it is a forest mission, not leader as an all-time position. I it was not my intent to be arrogant. What I said about the imps was only if they were unwilling to listen to peaceful talks, and it was never my intent to kill them like Steelight would have been more than willing to do. And I hope that we can put this topic down as I have said multiple times that I am not going to be the leader, in fact the moment you two said you didn't want a leader I immediately backed down from trying to be leader and go with your plan. I think I have quite got the idea that you do not want me to lead, so can we just work on strategies for now?"

Darkon then turns to Zeph after taking a breath of air and says "I hope you did not perceive what I said as me trying to order you, it was just a suggestion. The reason why I said you might want to use a bow is because of how well you handled yourself with one the field of death, and I was thinking that you could work in tandem with Sintan in fight with a bow to attack from far away while Sintan engages up close. And yes I know that elves are known for using bows, and while I can use a bow quite well, I can use swords even better. I thought it would be better if I would take the frontlines in battle with my scimitars. I f anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to hearing them. While I think we should turn in soon, I also think we should confirm what were going to be doing tomorrow, so we don't run into any problems."

Tuesday-Week 1

Darkon listens to Zeph talks about Steelight's attack on him and how he feels that people in power act like tyrants and let the power go to their heads.

After he finishes Darkon says "Yes some people in positions of power have been corrupted by it. However you can't just look at the parts of history you want to look at and not the rest. There are plenty of leaders who didn't go power crazy and led there people peacefully. And as I tried saying before, anyone who led us wouldn't really get any power, because we can't force anyone to do what we want and the leader is only the organizer for tactics and some decisions."

Darkon stopped for a moment to take in some air before continuing, and put away a dish he's finished with and pick up the last one in his stack.

"You guys seem very adamant about not having a leader however, so let's try it your way. As for strategies How about I take frontline melee with Sintan and Zeph cover the back with a bow. Kiirnon you can work with me and Sintan and flank the enemies to attack them with your rouge skills (Sneak attack). And you said that you can cast some spells right Zeph? If you can, I think the best spells you could prepare would be healing spells, in case one of us gets injured."

Darkon finishes the last dish in his stack and begins to head toward the door. He says "If you guys have any other tactic ideas you should say them now, if not then we should all try to get some rest for tomorrow."

(Darkon is going out of the kitchen unless someone else has something to say)

Darkon

Tuesday-Week 1

Darkon listened first to Zeph talk about why they didn't need a leader, and then Kiirnon get mad at him and call him arrogant just because I'm an elf. Darkon let out a sigh and began to try to better deliver his message to the group.

"Zeph I recognize that Sintan would be very good at tracking, however that only applies to scent of smell. If it rains then the trail would be lost to her. I hope you didn't misunderstand my message about leadership. I don't think the leader is any more important than anyone else on the team and that working together is the whole point of the leader, to help bring the team together. I get the feeling that you don't like to be ordered around, and that wouldn't be the job of the leader. A leader’s job is more of the facilitator who is open to new ideas and suggestions, not a boss who orders you around."

Darkon pauses for a moment to take in some air, and put away the dish he finished cleaning and pick up a new one. Then he begins talking once more.

"As for why I helped you it was because Steelight was wrong in ordering the imps around and wrong in attacking you. You where doing the right deed by helping the imps and so I decided I should help you."

Darkon then turn slightly to look at Kirnon in his revealed heritage. Half drow. Big deal. He then speaks to Kiirnon.

"There our soooo many thing's wrong with what you said right there. First off why do you call me arrogant just because I am an elf? You say you put your trust into our hands, and it seems you want acceptance for your race. However acceptance is a two way street, if you want to be accepted you should accept others. I do not care one way or another about you race, however I would like it if you would not judge me with premade misconceptions that don't apply to me. What you said about Steelight being a good leader is ridiculous. He tried to ATTACK one of his teammates just because he disagreed, that is not a good leadership quality. And what you said about not being able to lead from the front lines, how does that make any sense? There have been a lot of leaders who have charged with the frontlines into battle, and led exceptionally well. What I said about a leader was directed at you as well, a leader is supposed to organize and make decisions that help better the team. A leader is supposed to create teamwork. Also have you heard of any system of government that did not have a leader, or any great adventuring team that didn't have a leader? No because most things in life that require teamwork do require a leader."

Darkon pauses to let what he's said sink in before continuing.

"I think that for some reason you guys just heard leader and sort of tuned out the rest of what I said. I said that we do need to work out teamwork, strategies and the like. You two seem really opposed to having a leader though, so if you wish we'll work on strategies and not have a leader. My name is Darkon; I am a ranger that wields two scimitars. I can track, sneak, hunt, forage, and travel through woodland areas with ease. I am good at melee fighting, though I can do fine with a bow as well."

Tusday-Week 1

The moment Professor O'Leary leaves Darkon begins to tell the group what he's been mulling over while doing the dishes, though he doesn’t stop cleaning. He says "I think we should elect a leader right away and follow what they say, so we can avoid the problems we ran into last time. I would like to elect myself for that role if simply for the fact that I've spent most of my life living in the forest and I am well versed in hunting, foraging, tracking, stealth, woodland knowledge, and other skills that would help us in just about any manner of exercise we will be given.”

Darkon pauses for a moment to take a deep breath before continuing. "That said however, considering how when I took the lead before it led to us having to clean these bowls of gruel." He pauses for a moment to look at the grime encrusted bowl he's currently cleaning before talking again "If anyone feels that I am not suited to lead or feels they can do it better, then they simple have to say so and I’ll step down.”

“Still no matter who is leader we should work out details like strategies, marching formation, second-in-command in case the leader is incapacitated, dead or otherwise unavailable, and other details so we don't run into any problems."

He then moves over to the giagantic purple die (If it is 400 lbs or less than Darkon lifts it over his head and carries it back to where it came from, if it's 800 lbs or less he just carries it off the ground to back where it came from, if it's 2000 lbs or less he pushes and pulls it back, if it's more than that he just struggle at pulling and calls for aid from the others). As Darkon heads off to start his punishment he realizes that he was pretty lucky to get away with just having to do the dishes because he entered that fight as well, even though he didn't really do anything. Anyways he thinks to himself it's not like i'm completly getting off the hook as he thinks of all the gruel encrusted bowls to clean.
