Subject: This time it wasn't DHarem's Fault!

“Karrain?” DHarem said as the mage turned and left without a word and headed back into the guard house looking a might upset. The Seeker looked at Thomas and sighed, he weighed his options for a moment and then hauled Thomas over to a street vendors stall.

“HEY!” the vendor said as he sat the unconscious Thomas down behind the vendors shop out of sight, “you can’t put him here.”

The Seeker sat the large sack down next to Thomas and turning to the Vendor he dug into his tunic and dragged out an Electrum and tossed it to the vendor.

“Watch him for a few moments,” he said as he turned to head back, “If you do I will see you get more for your troubles. Don’t let anything happen to him or his belongings”

Rounding the corner, the Seeker gripped his staff tightly in one hand, he had thought this was resolved but here they were again. Things might have to end badly with this Guard Captain, he would pray to Lord Verona later for guidance. Right now he feared the Mage might need his assistance; he seems as adept at getting into trouble as DHarem. He smiled slightly as he thought of how Varis would laugh at the thought of another troublemaker in the group, well maybe he wouldn’t laugh, cry would be more his reaction.

(Ok sorry for my confusion earlier. I thought Karrain hadn’t left with DHarem and Thomas and just went to confront the Captain. I reread everything and saw it was I that was confused. Hopefully I have gotten things back on track. I stopped here in my posting as I don’t think DHarem would have had time to do all that and still get back into the guard house before the action started. )

Hmm.. I just went back and read the posts again and well I could have left my original post and went from there instead of changing it.

I will have to recreate that post again as best I can and then post again. Sorry I am confused it seems

Sorry Clockwork, the confusion is all my fault. Need more sleep I guess.

DHarem didn't leave Thomas behind but took him out the front. I assumed, incorrectly it seems, that Karrain went with them but I guess not.

Considering that DHarem wouldn't have left Karrain to face the Captain alone, I may have to change my post.

If Karrain is indeed going to face off against the Captain then my post will be altered.

DHarem saw only Karrain standing in the guard room surveying the injured and unconscious guards. He stepped in hauling Thomas along with him and shrugged at Karrain’s words.

“The Captain was a bit stubborn at times,” he said in a matter of fact tone, “I was obliged to free Thomas into my custody. Now help me with him and…”

He paused hearing heavy footsteps coming from the door where the Captain had left; he was no doubt returning and would not be happy with what he saw here. Turning he headed to another passage which lead towards the front of the guardhouse, he hoped.

“Come we must find another way,” he told Karrain as they helped Thomas
Hauling Thomas between them they entered a passage headed towards the front of the building; it was currently empty. The passage had a dooway to the left and right and a closed door straight ahead. Moving towards the door at the end, they passed the other doorways and saw a barracks to the left and a locker room to the right. Inside the locker room a lone guard was getting dressed and looked up at the trio with surprise.

Leaving Thomas with Karrain for a moment, the Seeker stepped into the Locker room and addressed the guard. It was best to seem one was where they were supposed to be rather than try and sneak about.

“Good day sir,” he said with a friendly smile, “my friend here has been released from custody, totally innocent it seems, but his gear is missing. Might you know where it was taken?”

The confused guard only pointed at a set of lockers near the door; DHarem thanked him and stepped over to the lockers. Opening one he found it contained a large sack; inside it he found his armor and weapons. Lifting out the sack he looked around for a second and walked over to another locker; one that was marked as ‘22’. Taking the keys out of his tunic, he slipped them inside the locker, shut it and then walked out thanking the guard once more.

Helping Karrain with Thomas they continued up to the closed door; opening it they found the main entrance. Stepping in they helped Thomas and continued towards the front door as if they were only going about their business. At a table to the side sat four guardsmen who looked up as confused as the other guard had been.

“The Captain has released my friend here, seems he was innocent as we all thought, so if you will excuse us.” DHarem said as they continued quickly through the room and out the door. Turning he made for the first street and turned the corner and stopped for a moment.

“We must get to the Councillors,” he told Karrain, “An-Jantar will side with us and help clear up this whole mess. Come.”

Subject: First Post

Kenneth McCormick, or Ken as he liked to be called, had been aboard Destiny for about a year now. When he first came aboard, hired as a extra gun, he was a bit of a loner. He still is a loner for the most part; he tends to do things that can be solitary; working out with the weights, martial arts, and guns are some of favorite past times.

But in that time aboard Ken has come to know the crew; and them to know him somewhat. He still maintains a solitary nature and seldom talks about his past. But the one thing the crew has learned about Ken is that they can count on him in a fight; with guns, fists or just about anything he has shown himself to be quite handy to have around the ship.

He can be a bit rough and even crude at times; he maintains a colorful vocabulary at times and often can say embarrassing things in public without regard for where he is or who is present.

This was ever present when the Companion Priscilla came aboard to talk to the Captain; Ken made his lustful attraction present when she was leaving after having made a deal for transport.

“Hey Honey,” he said as he stood in the cargo bay when she was walking past to leave to prepare for the trip, “I gotta huge ship ya can ride on.” He chuckled as she ignored his quip and continued on off the ship.

Days later, after Ken had taken his turn to fix the days meal, Priscilla had taken ill and Brian had quipped about how they shouldn’t have let Ken cook again.

“Hey what can I say? She didn’t like my ‘special sauce’.” Ken grinned slightly and shrugged. Though inside he was worried about the woman, she was very hot and he would hate to see such wonderful female flesh wasted.

What Ken really didn’t like was being stuck on Greenleaf and the loss of their well paying job of ferrying the Whore. He wasn’t very good with money, he spent it on Companions, guns, and often gambled it away and he could have used his share of the fee on that job. Now here they sat, no job prospects, little money, and he was board.

Ken sat in the Cantina Bar, drinking a couple of local beers, smoking cigarettes, with the rest of the crew and shook his head as he took another drink.

“Ta Ma Duh, this is some horrible swill,” he said and made a face at the only drinks they could afford, “it tastes like I washed my underwear in this stuff last week.”

Looking up, Ken spotted the man in a white smock enter the bar and look around; when the man headed directly towards them he attracted the Captain’s attention.

“Hey Boss,” he said and nodded towards the man when Jon looked his way, “seems someone is interested in us.”

Quietly Ken’s right hand moved to hang at his side; he didn’t touch the PeaceKeeper pistol slung there but he could have it in use in short order if needed. He looked past the man to see if anyone else was with him and then scanned the room to see if anyone else was paying them any ‘extra’ attention.

When the man spoke and inquired about their ship; he only smirked slightly as he took in the appearance of the man. A light weight for sure; this man was no threat though people that could work for him might be.

"It might be," he said to the man's questions, "but speed can be expensive."

He might have spoken out of turn; it being the Captain's place to make deals, but it was something that Ken did, speaking without thinking sometimes.

DHarem nodded to the guards and then smiled slightly at the mention of a drink; once those two were safely out of the way he turned to the one he still held and shook his head, “You could learn from your friends.. but I doubt you will.” He let go of his collar and then struck him lightly at the base of the skull, a blow designed to render him unconscious and with a side effect of sometimes causing temporary memory loss. If lucky the guard wouldn’t remember what happened and would probably think that he was knocked out just like the others around him.

As the guard hit the floor he reached down and lifted the ring of keys the guard had tossed to him; he turned and looked at the door leading back into the guard post. No doubt the cells were back there; he walked over and grabbed his staff and then headed back to the cells to find Thomas.

Opening the first door he looked through first before proceeding. If he seen cells and no more guards, he would proceed to the cells and peer inside looking for Thomas; if no guards were evident he would call out for Thomas.

If he found Thomas he would unlock the cell and go to him; if he was conscious and able to walk then DHarem thought he might as well remove the innocent man from the unreasonable clutches of a Guard Captain.

If Thomas was unconscious and injured still; he would slip his sack from his shoulder and remove a healing potion and administer it. Once Thomas was able to move, then he would help him to leave this place.

Yes he thought that removing a man in custody was technically illegal; but it was obvious the man would not receive a fair trial here. He would present his case to the Councillors themselves and let them be the judge(s); besides the Councillor that hired them would surely stick up for them.

Helping Thomas leave the cells he took him back towards the main entrance; he paused at the door before entering to check on the state of the guards he had left there.

(Pausing here to see if Karrain comes in to assist; it would be a very comedic moment to see him standing in the front room with all the incapacitated guards on the floor. )

Subject: It continues

DHarem took no pleasure in taking down the first 3 guardsmen; he regretted his own actions and in his not seeing the stubbornness of the Guard Captain. He would remedy that later but for now he had to survive this encounter.

He whirled towards the three remaining and saw how the two moved to around the desk to the sides; he raised an eyebrow as the one drew a sword and then hurled the desk at him. Instead of moving away from the flying desk he moved towards it; two quick steps and then he went to his knees sliding. He slid under the desk bending backwards till his back hit his heels; the desk went over his head just barely.

He came sliding upon the sword wielding guard who looked surprised to see him; he slide by the clumsy swing of the guard and came to his feet behind the guard. He whirled and grabbed the guard’s sword are and applied an arm lock on his sword arm causing great pain. It was enough pain that he should have dropped the sword; he held the arm bar in place. He grabbed the man’s collar with the other hand holding him in a ‘come-along’ hold.

He held the man before him between himself and the remaining guards and without a smile or smirk of any kind he said, “Gentlemen, need we continue this or can you walk away with a little dignity?”

A sigh would have escaped his lips if he hadn’t been sucking in a breath in preparation for the coming battle. As the guards rushed all at once he mentally shook his head; typical warrior fashion to attack mindlessly. They would only get in each other’s way as it was impossible for 6 people to safely attack one person.

As they moved so did the Seeker; his right hand grabbed the staff where it lay atop the desk and flung it ahead of him across the desk towards the faces of two of the guards rushing from that direction. His left hand set down on the desk top and he lifted up and jumped over the desk, his right foot kicked backwards as he did so sending the chair behind him flying at one of the guards attacking from behind.

Landing on the other side of the desk, using it as a shield to the guards behind him knowing they would have to go around the desk to attack him. He struck out at the guards at whom he had flung the staff counting on either having stuck them in the face or at the very least making them flinch and have to deflect the staff. He didn’t aim to hurt them, instead he struck out with nerve strikes to immobilize the two of them aiming at a point that would numb their legs.

DHarem raised an eyebrow at the tack that the Guard Captain was taking; open assault upon a citizen. He watched at the Captain left, leaving his guards to attack him, and the men starting to circle him.

He moved slowly over to the desk and stepped behind it; his movements slow and deliberate. He laid his staff across the desk and stood as if he was going to sit in the chair but he did not sit.

“Gentlemen,” he said turning his head slowly to keep all of the guards in his peripheral vision, “I am sorry about what happened, but you did assault me first. Further assault will only result in further harm, which I would like to avoid for all of us.”

“I advise you,” he said still turning his head slowly to look at each of them, “not to go down this path.”

He didn’t sound afraid, his voice was slightly pitiful that it had come to these events. He appeared at ease yet he was ready for any way this encounter was going.

Subject: Agressive Negotiations

DHarem sighed at the stubbornness of the Guard Captain; he regretted what was about to happen.

“So I am not under arrest?” He asked as the guards closed in, it was a rhetorical question as he had ordered them to take him outside which clearly stated that he was not being arrested.

As the guards grabbed his arms and started to haul he let himself be lead for a step or two, then he dipped his body pulling them forward and slightly off balance. His arms whirled like windmills and came around and locked the two guards arms at the elbow; straightening up he leaned back and this put pressure on the locked elbows causing the two guards to stiffen and to rise up on their toes to keep from dislocating their arms at the elbows. With them helpless he whirled in a circle and flung them around and releasing them they flung into a far corner to crash atop one another.

DHarem turned to gaze at the Guard Captain and sighed again, “You of all people should know Captain, it is against the law to touch a Seeker unless he is being placed under arrest for some offense. Since you were not arresting me, I am authorized under Tithuanan law to defend myself.”

“Now,” he said as he straightened his clothes and stared at the Captain, “I will make a attempt to defuse this situation which has gotten out of control and formally ‘request’ to see the prisoner to ascertain his health and condition. As his potential council I have that right under the law.”

He glanced at the two guards as they struggled to untangle themselves and rise to their feet, “I’m sorry!”

He turned his attention back to the Guard Captain his gaze now imploring rather than demanding, “I beg of you Captain, don’t let this get more difficult than it has already.”

“Appearances?” DHarem replied incredulously, “your proof is appearances?” He laughed at the Captain and smiled at him, “A court is it?”

He walked over to the Captain where he was pacing and stood in front of him again preventing the man from walking, “Sir, if that is all you have for proof then I will destroy you in court.”

He smiled for a moment and then asked, “I would like to see my friend now. He was injured in his fall off of the building. I want to make sure that he is being cared for and will make it to court.”

DHarem raised an eyebrow but maintained his demeanor, “Are you calling me a liar? I take great offense at that. My friend is innocent unless you can provide evidence to prove otherwise. I demand you provide evidence now or take me to my friend whom you shall release immediately.”

He took a step forward and came nose to nose with the guard, even though the Captain was a bit taller and stocker than the Seeker.

“You are on the verge of making me angry Captain,” he said in an even tone that only the Captain could hear, “and by Lord Verona, you don’t want to make me angry. You risk the wrath of my Lord; whom you really don’t want to anger.”

DHarem raised and eyebrow at the Councillor for War; he turned to Bon and Karrain, “Tell me everything that happened starting at the time of the attack.”

(Assuming they tell him everything that he did not witness)

“Thomas wasn’t trying to kill the Councillor,” he said after a few thoughtful moments, “he was a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

He began to pace as he gave his summation of what happened to his companions and the Councillor for War who was still standing there.

“While I battled the Mage on the roof, Thomas must have been coming up behind us; I thought I heard a rattling of armor. He must have came up as the Mage and I crashed through the roof; the tiles of the roof were of a … inferior makeup more so than I thought.” The last said with another note of embarrassment for some reason.

“There was a fiery explosion above us as we crashed down into the building,” he continued as he paced, “our falling actually probably saved our lives. I suspect that the Councillor for Magic was the one casting the spells at the Mage whilst I engaged him. I surmise that he cast a fire spell of some sort and that poor Thomas was struck by the blast and it flung him off of the roof to fall upon the Councillor of Magic.”

“It is the only logical explanation,” he said stopping his pacing to stand before the Councillor for War, “I must find the Captain of the Guard and explain the situation. He will see my reasoning… or provide his evidence to the contrary.”

He turned again to his companions, “Find Varis and check on him and the Councillor of Magic; I will find Thomas.”

Turning he left the square headed to the nearest guard station, there he would inquire about the location of his companion and the Guard Captain. He would continue his inquires until he found the Guard Captain; he would introduce himself as a Seeker of the Great Library and explain the results of his summation.

“So you see Captain,” he said as he finished, “this is the only logical explanation as Thomas was part of our group and we were hired by Councillor An-jantar as he suspected someone intended to harm Councillor An’Inglefar during the Contest. “

Looking the Captain square in the eyes he squared up his shoulders and said, “So Captain, unless you can provide proof to refute my expert analysis of the events that transpired, I recommend that you release my friend.”

He stood there as if daring the Guard Captain to attempt to match wits with a bonified Seeker; a follower of the Great Verona, Lord of Wisdom and Knowledge.

DHarem ignored the councilor (Not sure which one is talking to him), and turned to look at Bon with a incredulous look.

“What? Is Varis alright? Why Is Thomas being held?” He said and then appeared thoughtful for a moment before continuing, “I attacked the mage and we fell through the roof into the building which was burning. The mage however escaped, he vanished using magic.” He sounded embarrassed a little at admitting the man escaped him.

He turned to the Councillor (please let me know which one this is, I’m not sure), “Why is our friend being held? Is he hurt? If so I hope he is receiving treatment for his injuries.” DHarem has a tendency to sound a bit commanding at times and this time is no exception. His tone could sound disrespectful when his concern for his companions is concerned.

Subject: A little introduction - Ken McCormick

Ken is the newest member of the Destiny having joined the crew only about 1 year ago; in that time he has proven that he can be a capable ‘Public Relations’ man. Being strong and quite handy with guns of all sorts; he has helped the Destiny get through a few tight spots in his short time aboard.

While he seems friendly enough to the other crew members he can often be crude and a bit of a loner. He spends a lot of free time working out and has a healthy streak about him which contradicts his bad habit of smoking cigarettes. His constant exercising has given him a very trim athletic figure with only 3% body fat and a very ‘ripped’ physique.

His size and demeanor often assist him in his job as “PR” man; simple threats and an intimidating manner can often accomplish his desires without the need for guns and violence. However, when intimidating doesn’t do the job, he is not beyond using pain and even death to get the job done.

One issue that springs up between him and some members of the crew has been the Independents; he doesn’t like to discuss it but it is known by the crew that he doesn’t care for the Independents almost as much as the Alliance. The crew knows that he grew up on Hera and that his family were killed in the battle of Serenity Valley; he blames both sides for their deaths but luckily he appears to hate the Alliance more than any one else.
