Subject: Not to plan.

The rooftop collapsing had not been part of DHarem plan; as the roof fell he used his superior agility to help cushion his fall. He landed, more or less, on his feet in the rubble below but he felt a pain in his left leg. He gritted his teeth and began a concentration mantra in his head to help deaden the pain as he stood there and waited for the dust to settle for a few seconds. He looked down when he could see and saw a piece of the tile sticking out of his leg. Blood was flowing but it didn’t appear to be immediately life threatening.

He looked around the rubble and found the body of the mage laying there looking far worse covered in debris. He moved over to the mage and uncovered him and saw some rather serious wounds. Immediately he began to assess his injuries; broken ribs, a severely lacerated leg, a compound fracture of his right arm. The man was badly injured and close to death; forgoing his own injuries he began to work on the mage. Shucking his sack off and placing it on the ground next to him he drew out one of the light medical kits and began to stanch the flow of blood from the more severe wounds.

He quickly put pressure bandages on the bleeding and would worry about the broken bones later. Once this was done he pulled out one of the healing potions and carefully poured a single dose between the mage’s lips. Then he reached down and removed the tile splinter in his own leg and slapped a bandage on it and tied it off as the blood began to flow greater. He downed a dose of his healing potion himself to stop the bleeding.

This done he sat back and sighed; not the way the plan was suppose to go, no not at all.

“IN HERE!” He yelled out hoping someone outside would hear him and make their way to the two. The mage should be stable now but he still needed further attention and the Seeker needed some rest.

Subject: Earthquake Mode

DHarem wasn’t surprised by his miss; such things would make his pause and disrupt his concentration and make him vulnerable. He whirled to face the mage and saw a faint shimmer in the air before him. He had faced mages before and knew they could generate shields to protect them from physical attack. So he quickly decided that he couldn’t directly attack the man.

He saw a boulder appear above the man, obviously the result of one of the mages below attacking this mage, and watched as it dropped and struck a blue shimmering shields and shattered into dust. As the dust fell DHarem struck; not at the man but the roof top beneath their feet. Rising his fist high and jumping he looked as if he was going to perform an aerial strike on the mage, but instead he came down just outside the mage’s shimmering shield and struck the roof top with his fist (Stone Hands).

The blow was a powerful one; the clay tiles shattered around them in a 10’ circumference. DHarem had instantly held his breath as the cloud of dust rose up immediately all around him and the mage. The blow was powerful enough to make anyone there have a hard time maintaining their footing. The dust thrown up in the air would not only obscure a person’s sight and if inhaled would make it hard to breath.

DHarem was counting on the mage’s protective barrier NOT being beneath his feet as usually that was not the case as it would make walking for the mage extremely difficult. If his assumptions were right the barrier might work against the mage as it would fill with the powdery dust and make his life a bit more difficult. If it worked as planned, then the Seeker would be waiting for the mage to become unprotected so that he could strike and render him unconscious with a blow. If the barrier was covering the bottom then at the very least the mage should still be severely shaken by the powerful shattering of the rooftop beneath him.

Thanks I just wanted to know the orientation of the target roof to DHarem's but thanks for the extra info on a way to locate the target.

Subject: Attack Mode

DHarem had looked up to the bell tower where he saw nothing and when he looked back down he saw Karrain rushing towards the stage and waving his arms intricately before him. The Seeker was no mage but he had seen them enough to recognize the casting of some form of magic. He looked around now more on alert as there must be something here the mage saw that had escaped his notice.

He noticed the crowd go silent which helped them greatly because he heard a lone voice yelling. He looked down and saw Bon rushing forward and yelling something. He concentrated and was able to make out what he was saying. A invisible enemy on the building to his right?

Whirling to look at the building Bon had directed him he rushed at it and seeing it was only slightly taller he hit the wall at a run and easily scaled up the wall and flipped up onto the roof top. He immediately smelt something strange; herbs or incense or perhaps it was something used to cast magic. He could see a faint trace of smoke in the air and in only a couple seconds he was moving towards the origin of the source.

Bending down as me moved quickly across the roof he scooped up a couple of lose clay tiles from the roof and with one in each hand he flung them in the direction he had calculated where this invisible person might be located. He wasn’t aiming to hit someone but rather the tiles to strike the roof itself; the two tiles hit about 5 feet apart and shattered into a cloud of dust which puffed up into the air.

The dust was light and floated in the air; his intent was for the dust to give away the exact location of his target as it settled on an invisible figure. If he sees the dust take shape around anything that looks like a person; he will launch himself at it in a flying heel kick strike intended to stun and possibly cripple his opponent.

Can we get a basic description of the setting? The building Bon is pointing out, is it taller than the one that DHarem is standing on? Is it shorter? the same height?

Would like to know before I post DHarem's actions. Thanks!

Subject: It's over? Hardly I think!

DHarem raised an eyebrow when the contest was over; it seemed that Councillor An'Jantar should have been more worried about his fellow councillor's abilities than anyone attacking him at the event. His performance here in front of his constituents was more of an ‘assassination’ than if he had been killed outright.

The Seeker turned his attention to the area still wary of anything that might threaten the proceedings. He looked up at the bell tower even as a possible spot someone might shoot from if they were so inclined to be punished by the deafening tones of the bells. He would keep up his surveillance until the Councillor was secure and having left the area.

He wondered at this contest; the Councillor seemed to either be a good spot by giving points away to his opponent or he was determined to lose for some reason. What that could be he had no clue; for now he would keep his eye out for danger. He scanned the area looking for Councillor An'Jantar and his compatriots wondering if someone might use the contest as a distraction to maybe strike at another target, perhaps even Councillor An'Jantar himself.

(Editted to correct a misunderstanding on my part)

Yeah Thomas is ripe for getting rid of here. He probably fall on this bottles of MageMead and blow himself up.

Just a thought but if you have a character soon then could bring it in at this point, maybe a concerned citizen who helps foil a plot against the Councillor.

Just a thought. A good way to get in the good graces of the team and the leadership here. Plus we need a female character in this group. It's a sausage fest here!

DHarem was poised lightly atop the low roof of the nearby building when a bottle came sailing up into the air near him; he reached out without hesitation and snatched it from the air and looked at it. It wasn’t an explosive that he could tell and looking down he saw it seemed to originate near the area where Varis and Karrain were standing. He looked at the markings on the bottle and saw it was a healing potion. He tucked it away for now with the intent of giving it back to Varis as he had acquired several while at the Monastery earlier today.

Resting lightly on the balls of his feet ready to move in any direction if need be; the Seeker observed the crowd and the stage for anything suspicious. His ears listened and he couldn’t help but hear parts of the duel of knowledge as it began. He raised an eyebrow when he heard the mention of ‘Defenders’, he had read something back in the Great Library once while he was a studying acolyte and recalled the word but the information there had been sketchy at best.

While he took in all he heard from the contest, his eyes scanned the area not neglecting the rooftops and even the one upon which he stood. He noticed where his companions had set up shop and at one point he gave Varis the signal that all was clear at the moment. He continued to stay alert knowing that it probably wouldn’t remain so for long.

DHarem nodded to his companions as they joined him noting that they seemed ready for anything. He listened intently as Bon laid out the settings of the plaza and the best positions for attackers and where they might station themselves.

“Good job, Bon,” he said in agreement, “I agree that at least one of us should be on that low roofed building behind the stage. I will take that if there are no objections?”

He looked at Varis and if there were no objections from him, he would nod and making sure all his things were secure he started towards that building but he was brought up short by the arrival of Thomas with five bottles in his hands. Looking at them more closely he recognizes them and glances at Varis with a raised eyebrow.

“You might want to handle this Varis,” he said to the leader as he moved on off to his vantage point.

Moving through the gathering crowd he scanned them looking for anyone that seemed nervous or out of place. He reached the corner of the low building behind the Councillor’s side of the stage. He moved to the spot where this building joined another one and that one stuck out a couple of feet creating a wedge shaped corner. Tucking his staff on his back beneath his sack hanging there; he took one last glance around as he moved up to the corner and without even halting he rushed at the corner.

He leaped up putting first one foot on the wall of the one building and then the other foot on the other wall a little higher (ala Jackie Chan) and in few short seconds he had bounded up the building and stood on the roof overlooking the stage.

He didn’t stand right on the edge where he would be obvious there but a little bit back but where he could see the crowd below and the roof top on which he stood. Here he had a great vantage point and if need be he could leap off the roof and onto the stage even if the need arose. He hoped that this was all just a precaution but he also wondered about this RRR group. They sounded up to no good and he knew that with their luck they would be dealing with them at some time in the future.

“Very well,“ DHarem said and nodded to Karrain and set down his glass and rose from the table, “let us be off, we can look about the city for abit and then I need to stop at my Monastery and pick up some supplies.”

As Varis’s song stopped te Seeker gestured to him indicating that their new companion would be accompanying him. He picked up his sack and slipped the long thick drawstring/sash over his shoulder and neck and then picked up his staff. He carried it more out of habit than any need for it.

Once Karrain was ready then he lead the way out of the Tavern an onto the streets of Tithuana. He took the mage around the city on a long route to his Monastery which was his ultimate destination. He wondered what the mage would think of the changes that had happened in the time he had been away. He was sure there were many of them.

As they walked through one busy square which was filled with shops and people at this time of day; he suddenly turned and reached out and grabbed a wayward arm. He hauled a young boy of no more than 10 out before them; the boy struggled and complained.

“HEY!” the boy tried to pull away but was unable to get away from the Seekers powerful grip.

“You should no attempt to pick the pocket of a Seeker,” he said and reached with his other hand and withdrew a pouch from the boy’s hand. He let go of the boy once he retrieved his pouch and then opening it he withdrew a electrum piece and tossed it to the boy who deftly plucked it from the air.

“Now get and pay attention into which pockets you reach,” he said with a smile as the boy grinned and then darted off through the crowd.

DHarem turned to Karrain and shrugged, “Guess some things never change eh?”

He continued his tour of Tithuana and they would stop wherever the mage required or requested. Eventually they arrived at the Monastery where the Seeker introduced his companion to the acolytes and gave a brief explanation of his history. He left the mage there while he went to draw his supplies; Karrain was surrounded by many other Seekers and acolytes who bombarded him with questions.

After awhile, nearing the second strike, he returned and rescued the mage from the inquisition and led him away towards the square where they were to met the others for their assignment.

“I hope they didn’t pester you too much,” he said to Karrain after they left the Monastery, “it isn’t every day you encounter someone from several thousand years ago.”

Subject: Damages? What Damages?

DHarem raised an eyebrow and gave a slight smile at the obvious joke from Karrain about his drink. It was good to see the man had a sense of humor especially after being imprisoned for so long. He listened as Varis finished informing Karrain of their mission and what he could do until the time they had to gather at the Square. DHarem was thinking of what he needed to do as he finished his second drink and pondered. He was so lost in thought for a moment that he almost missed the look that Varis directed at him as he talked of ‘Damages’.

The Seeker blinked and then raised a brow and started to respond that the so called ‘Damages’ comment and state that the young man who had retreated to the Kitchen already was fine and that he would suffer no lasting effects from his nerve strike which paralyzed him for a few minutes but his comments were lost as the Singer started to tune up his harp.

DHarem decided to remain silent and let his friend get away with that minor slight after all he could recall a few other ‘minor’ incidents that he had perhaps gone overboard in handling some situations; just maybe a little overboard but just a very little.

He listened with Karrain to Varis’s song and nodded at the wonderful singing, as usual. As the song was winding down, he finished the last sip of his wine and turned to the mage and asked with is voice low so as not to disturb the song, “So you wish to accompany me or do you wish to explore on your own?”

DHarem ignored the looks from a couple of the patrons at the bar as he returned to the table and set the mug of mead down before Karrain.

“There you go,” he said and sat himself down, “that was pretty painless.”

The Seeker started to take a sip of his wine and caught the glance of Varis as he looked past to the bar where the owner was reviving the kitchen boy and helping him to his feet; DHarem only shrugged as he lifted his glass to his lips.

“Well painless for most,” he muttered then sipped the wine and gave it his approval with a smacking of his lips.

DHarem walked over to the bar to inquire about getting the drinks and saw that the barkeep was not there at the moment, instead a young man from the kitchen was there putting away glasses which had been washed and brought out still dripping with water.

“Excuse me young sir,” The Seeker asked, “could I get another Deckian wine and one of your best meads there? “ Pointing towards what he wanted and could clearly see. The young man turned and glanced at him then went back to doing his chore.

“Sorry, you will have to wait till the owner returns.”

DHarem frowned and sighed getting a little perturbed, “I have been waiting for several minutes already and no one has attended to me. So could I please get my drink now?”

The young man ignored him and went about putting away the glasses; DHarem raised an eyebrow and picking up his glass stepped behind the bar and went to get his own drinks.

The young man turned and saw him and approached him, “I’m sorry sir, you cant come back here and do that.”

“I agree, I shouldn’t have to do it,” DHarem said as he looked for the bottle of Deckian wine, “but you leave me little recourse.”

“Sir,” The young man reached out to grab DHarem’s sleeve, “You MUST go back….”

The words were cut off as the young man felt something strike him softly in the right upper chest and suddenly he collapsed to the floor and lay there drooling temporarily paralyzed with a nerve strike. The Seeker looked like he had not even turned from his task as he found the wine and exclaimed, “Ah!”

After pouring another glass of the wine he poured a tankard of some Mead that he found that smelled good to him and left a couple electrum pieces on the counter as he stepped over the still drooling kitchen boy laying on the floor. He passed the Barkeep/owner as he left the bar and offered him a smile and a shrug.

“You really should teach your help to show proper respect to your patrons,” He said as he went back to the table and set down the mead before their new team member.

DHarem chuckled at the mention of lost coin; and glanced around where Bon and Thomas were finishing up collecting what they could without accosting the patrons.

“Have no fear of the coins,” he said with a smirk, “they are the least important. I would welcome your knowledge but such decisions are not mind alone to make.”

He turned to look at Varis who at the mention of Business perked up and recovered himself. DHarem smiled when Varis welcomed the Mage into their group and vaguely mentioned the risks involved. The Seeker smiled and added once Varis was finished.

“But then Life is risk,” he said with a shrug, “and after such a long time locked away in your eternal prison I would think you eager for some excitement.” He smiled at the last and raised a questioning brow.

“Now as to our mission,” He glanced at Varis, “I will let our leader fill you in on that. Whilst I see what is taking so long at the bar.”

Taking his empty glass he rises and heads to the bar where he tries to get his long lost refill and one of the best meads they have for their new companion.

DHarem listened intently to the tale given by Karrain and nodded at certain parts that seemed to spark some bit of knowledge that he recalled from his studies. He looked forward to talking with this man in detail to learn more about the history, but for now they still had a mission to attend to shortly.

“A fascinating tale Karrain,” he said giving him a faint smile, “I believe you and I would love to hear more about your history and the knowledge of your time. For now we have things to attend to and an important mission for which we must prepare.”

He glanced at Varis to see if he has recovered from his surprise at the situation, and to see what he is willing to share with this recent stranger. Matters dealing with the group he leaves to Varis as he is the leader and such decisions are his to make.

He looked to Bon and Thomas to see if they had managed to gather most of their coins from the Tavern floor; he was sure they didn’t recover them all as he saw several of the tavern patrons helping themselves to the coins that had been blasted at them.

He gestured to get the bartenders attention and waved his glass, "Another wine and a mead for our new friend here." Gesturing to Karrain he smiled and nodded his head silently hoping that he would be able to learn more about this mysterious person.

DHarem raised an eyebrow at the man’s words; a sign that his companions knew indicated surprise. The Seeker traveled far and wide to gather knowledge and brought it back to the library, during his acolyte stage he spend years cataloging a lot of the works obtained and stored at the Great Library; he had a amazing mind and retained a lot of the things he read. He knew of the Royal Tithuanaian Academy of Magic and had heard of a Sacrelarch Mage before; though he didn’t know who Kaelis was he began to piece together what the newcomer was saying.

“Well Karrain Unzual,” DHarem said in a even measured tone, “I am DHarem, Seeker of the Great Library, and you are in Tithuana, but there is no longer a Royal Academy of Magic. Actually there hasn’t been a Royal family of Tithuana is almost a millennia.”

He paused a moment to let that sink in as he turned to Bon and Thomas and gestured to them to perhaps pick up the scattered coins before it started a riot in the small tavern. Turning back to the newcomer he smiled faintly.

“I fear you have been imprisoned for far longer than you imagine,” DHarem finished as he studied the Mage before him. He eyed the man as if he were a walking piece of knowledge which in a sense he was actually; just think of the information on the man he could relate to them. He glanced at Varis and once again raised his eyebrow in question.

DHarem nodded at Varis’s plan and his thoughts on what they should do before the time of the Duel. He thought of going to the Great Library here in Tithuana and check in. He could pick up his supplies and allotment for the month. They might need anything he could get for the coming mission.

“Yes I will find out any information I can about our latest encounters,” he said and rose to his feet. He picked up his staff and his sack; slinging the sacks long drawstring over his head and shoulders to hang behind him.

He paused when Varis brought out coins and proffered them on the table for all to see. He was about to protest the easy way in which he threw such a large quantity of coins out on the table in public. It was a sure way to invite trouble from those ’unsavory’ types. But something happened that stalled his words…

A sudden detonation in their midst caused him to stagger back but he maintained his feet. He saw a strange figure appear among them. One moment there was no one there and the next was a strangely dressed man appeared spouting strange words about the Royal Tithuanian Academy which hasn’t existed for a very long time.

DHarem stepped forward, being fast to recover, and spoke to the figure that seemed to step out of ancient times.

“Who are you stranger?” he asked in an even tone as he studied everything about the newcomers appearance.

DHarem took the proffered stick with a smile and nodded to the young man; he glanced at it and with a faint chuckle tucked it into his pouch then looked up again towards the bar thinking ‘Where is that refill?’

But as he left the group a man stolled over from another table, arriving before Varis, and leaning on their table. Slurring, he began, "I havs a proposushun for ya..."

The Seeker crinkled his nose at the smell emanating from the man and raised an eyebrow wondering just what this man had to proposition. He had a feeling that some trouble was coming; just an itch at the back of his neck that seemed to grow whenever something unpleasant was going to happen.

He glanced at Varis then back to the man; ok this one was his apparently, why did he seem to get the difficult ones.

“How may we help you?” DHarem asked with a faint smile yet he set the ‘still’ empty glass down on the table and rested his hands palm down on the surface; a position that Varis would recognized as one of instant combat readiness from the Seeker.
