Topic: Thoughts on a new world I'm working on.
Subject: This is a good start!

I like a lot of this! However, I think that eliminating all electric power may be a little too extreme- perhaps just an end to the Internet, since the radiation is interfering with the various electromagnetic waves needed for internet connectivity?

Also, you'd do good to remember that guns in general don't really need electricity to work, so soldiers wouldn't necessarily be "forced" into hand-to-hand combat, unless if the bullets somehow can't penetrate what a melee weapon could.

Next, our plane of existence is more than just Earth, it's our entire universe. Why is magic happening here? Is it just happening here? If not, then okay, but the why for just Earth would need to be explained.

Lastly, if the D&D-logic-based theory is true, then that means that the unhostile races would have access to the biggest database for how to defeat these hostile creatures and what their fighting tactics are- the Monster Manual (or some other thing that would accomplish the same purpose).

Due to the integration of fantasy literature into scientific text/theory, then we would be a lot more prepared for such an event if needed. Remember, for those diseases, that there are tons of compounds in the antarctic/arctic regions that house tiny samples of just about every disease in case they pop up again. If they do, then we'd use those, and we still do know about a lot of the "old ways" to cure diseases that actually worked- for example, there are tons of wacky treatments from the civil war era that were surprisingly effective and still are accepted to this day that involved things as bizarre as wrapping bacon around your throat.

About the internet/electricity thing, it could still technically cause a lot of the military equipment to fritz up when near it, even though it could work elsewhere (if it doesn't need internet). You see, I don't see anything here that explains how or why electric-powered appliances worldwide just stop working when the sources are the magic wells that are said to do such when technology is near them. I don't understand that.

Otherwise, this is really interesting! I like it!

Subject: Integrating Improvised Weapons into DnD

In Complete Warrior, it talks of damage being determined by the object's weight, and sharp objects, such as broken pipe bottles, deal damage equal to twice its weight.

It also speaks of being able to gain an AC bonus from using objects such as a table, bla bla bla.

Well, it doesn't really answer the question of Weapon Finesse. Obviously, I was considering the prerequisite for an improvised weapon to have weapon finesse as an option be of equal to or less weight than the heaviest finessable weapon for your size category that you're proficient with- which is probably the light mace, unless if the DM accepts letting you base the weight of off your size category's weight for the spiked chain.

Also, i think there should be some feats for using Improvised Weapons.

WEAPON PROFICIENCY (IMPROVISED WEAPONS): Your constant use of random objects for combat has made you proficient with them.

Prerequisites- INT 13, any other weapon proficiency

Benefit: Choose a category of Improvised Weapons: Furniture, Utensils, or Tools. You are considered proficient when fighting with improvised weapons of your selected category, and therefore don't take the -4 penalty to attack rolls.

Topic: Characters and Their creation
Subject: CHARACTER ARTTTT

I gotta say, I would definitely be willing to pay 25 dollars to get my characters immortalized. Although, anything higher would feel like it's kind of pushing it.

For example, the most memorable character I've ever had was this half-orc in one of my friend's campaigns, and he made the terrible mistake of letting me mismatch class abilities, and he took off alignment restrictions for characters- although, you still had to have a reason why your character would go down such a path and all that.

Basically, I ended up with a half-orc monk with rage abilities that could shoot magic laser beams out of his body, and he was extremely awkward in social conversations. It was really fun to play as him. Like, for characters like that, I would be willing to pay more than $25, probably up to 40, but that's only if I see the painting beforehand and go "YES THAT'S HIM" and fall in love with it.

I've actually never played the Star Wars game, but I understand the Vitality/Wound health system. I could go and use google to learn how to play if need be.

Are you looking to play or to be a DM?

I am rather new, so I can't really say welcome back.

Anyways, glad you're back though! I'm actually in the middle of planning a campaign right now, but we have 6 PC's already.

I guess I could have one more, make it seven, but my players are getting a tad antsy.....

You could definitely be added in later though. With the story I have, it won't be that difficult.

Well, it'll be complicated, but that just makes it more fun though, doesn't it?

It's not good enough. In my opinion, at least. You know, because my goal is for an 1860's repertoire, not a 1492 one.

Subject: 3 years seems to be a bit much

I know nothing about traveler, but it seems like there should be a cap somewhere. Or at least be able to increase in another skill while you're in your 3 years of training.

Like, spend the first few weeks of those years increasing something, and then once you get that to, say, 20, you can't increase it at the same time anymore, so you go for another skill to increase, and so on. Maybe.

Or just say "increasing in a skill can't take any longer than half a year" or something. Unless if this is a computer based game and not "tabletop-RPG-but-online" like other stuff here.

Topic: Integrating Firearms in D&D
Subject: Integrating Firearms in D&D

Now I'm trying to figure out rules for how firearms would work in a dungeons and dragons scenario. By firearms, I'm talking civil war/1860's grade of technology at most.

Also, if there are any sites that have already done this, I would be a very happy DM if you directed me to them.

Here's what I have so far:

1.) Powder and bullet ammunition types work differently in some places, but for these rules, they are the same:

1a.) Guns deal a lot of damage- they actually deal the same amount of damage on critical hits, but the difference between a critical hit with a gun than with another weapon is that the shot didn't have to penetrate through the armor to deal damage. Adamantine armors are bullet proof, but on critical hits firearms can deal damage and the Damage Reduction from adamantine armors does not apply.

1b.) On a normal hit, for a gun to deal damage, it must deal more damage than the hardness of the armor worn. Essentially, the hardness of the armor becomes temporary hit points for the wearer (natural armor grants hardness equal to 2+natural AC bonus). If the damage dealt to the wearer is at least double that of the armor's hardness, then the armor is considered chipped in that area, and attackers of your target can use a sunder attempt on the armor's chip to improve critical hit chances. Natural armor being chipped, however, instead results in 2d6 extra damage. If the damage dealt is over triple than that of the armor's hardness, then the target needs to make a Fort save (10+ damage dealt) or be knocked prone on his or her back.

1c.) On a critical hit, the firearm is considered to have dealt touch damage, and therefore the damage is not reduced by the armor's hardness. If a character applies Improved Critical to a firearm, then critical hits are considered to hit vital areas, and deal double damage.

1d.) Ammunition and firearms are very expensive.

1e.) Using a gun without being proficient in it does not incur the same type of penalty that one would normally encounter. Instead, proficiency with a gun determines if you know what to do to reload it properly, clean it, and so on.

1f.) (Variant rule for realism) It is possible for your gun to jam, misfire, hangfire, or encur a squib fire. A jam means that the ammunition has been reloaded improperly, and requires the time needed to reload to fix the problem. A misfire means that the firearm has not fired even though the trigger has been pressed and ammunition is properly loaded. A creature proficient with firearms could fix the problem in 10+1d6 seconds, but being improficient only takes 6 seconds. The reason for this is because someone proficient with this weapon knows to watch out for hangfires- that, instead of a malfunction that makes it not fire, the gun is actually just going to make a delayed shot. If the percentage rolled by the DM (see 1g) is a hangfire, then the percentage number is the same number of seconds that will be between the trigger pull and the firing of the shot. ((This rule just got so complicated I just stopped here.))

1g.) DMs roll a d100 (called a circumstance roll) to determine percentages of failure. For example, rolling a 1-10 results in a hangfire of 1-10 seconds, and a roll of 11-16 results in a misfire that takes a number of rounds equal to the roll result minus 10. These can be negated through various new feats.

1h.) Anyone being shot with a firearm must succeed on a Reflex save (10+natural attack roll result) else be considered flat-footed.

2.) Powder guns all deal the same amount of maximum damage. For example, the handgun (powder) deals 1d12 damage, and the musket deals 3d4 damage that has the scatter quality.

3.) Guns that use bullets work differently. Their damage is determined by the bullet's shell size, and therefore the model of the gun only determines range and accuracy (their gauges, however, must be the appropriate size for the ammunition you are using). However, since smaller shells are more accurate, you end up rolling more dice on the smaller shells than you do for the bigger shells, even though the maximum amount of damage you can do on the smaller shells still is smaller than the big shells. Here are some example damages:

Pistol ammunition: 3d2, 2d4

Rifle ammunition: 2d8, 1d20

Shotgun ammunition: 3d6, 2d10

Scatter: If a firearm deals damage in a cone, it must do attack rolls separately for each enemy in the area.

Feats:

FIREARM EXPERTISE: Your experience with firearms has given you knowledge to prepare for the worst mishaps with your trusty barrels. (requires Combat Expertise)

Benefit: Upon taking this feat, choose a mishap of your choice: Squib fire, Misfire, or Jam. Whenever the circumstance roll for mishaps lands in range of your chosen mishap, make an intelligence check (DC 10). If successful, you have avoided the mishap.

Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take it, you choose a different type of mishap for it to apply to.

HANGFIRE ABUSE: Your uncanny preparation for misfires has enabled you to use hangfires to your advantage.

Requires- Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Firearm Expertise (misfire)

Benefit: If you have succeeded to avoid a misfire, you may choose (before any other action is made) to make it a hangfire that fires in 1d10 seconds instead. If you do, make a REF save (DC 10+seconds). You may fire the hangfire at the designated time with an attack roll penalty equal to the DC subtracted by your reflex save.

HANGING FEINT: You have realized how tricky on opponents your hangfires can truly be.

Requires- Hangfire Abuse

Benefit: If you succeed on a saving throw to avoid a misfire and then turn it into a hangfire, you may make a Feint attempt to make your opponent(s) flat-footed.

HEADSHOT: Boom, headshot.

Requires- Improved Sunder, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Combat Expertise, Weapon Focus (firearm you're proficient with)

Benefit: You may make a sunder attempt to shoot the target's head with the firearm you have chosen in the Weapon Focus prerequisite. If the sunder attempt succeeds, you are considered to have created a threat- Roll for a confirm, but only add the creature's natural armor bonus, if any, to the confirmation roll. If you succeed on the confirmation, you have dealt a critical hit, and 1d4 of the visible facial features facing you become broken and unusable.

This is all still in progress. Any suggestions? How am I doing so far?

I should have known Wizards hadn't owned it forever! I was thinking TSR stood for some acronym about railroading players at the early stages of your campaigns.

See, my opinion on that is that you should be able to railroad players at the beginning of your campaigns, not necessarily at level 1 campaigns.

Yup, I see him in there!

I gotta admit, I can't really believe how fast this is coming together. I mean, we have a solid party of 6 PC's, with two arcane spellcasters, a healer/buffer, a stealthy ranged character, and two stealthy melee characters. I mean, that's pretty solid, especially since our savage warrior has pretty good hit points to tank a little if our scouts get detected.

I'll PM you again about your character's equipment.

First, we need to become friends. You go to your contacts & friends on the UCP, and then you type legendarylegend in the Add contact section thing.

Then, I accept it, and I invite you to join "Relistan Campaign". You accept that invitation, and then, next to your character sheet in your sheet index, you click "Add to Game".

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs
Subject: A Forum to post Variant Rules

I think we should follow the example of Unearthed Arcana (the concept of having a separate place for variant rules) by having a forum specifically dedicated to posting variant rules, classes, and the like. Perhaps someone's own re-haul of all the rules of their favorite tabletop RPG altogether?

While the DM's corner is useful, I think it would be cool if we had a forum specifically for house rules we use in most games and share them with the site. Or perhaps an option to contribute to the DM's Corner. That would be most swell.

If not in the DM's Corner, then I think it would be best located in the Creativity Forum, either just changing the description of Personal Creations or a new sub-forum altogether.

If these are not practical due to the submit-a-file forum, then I would like to suggest creating the submit-a-file forum so that it actually exists.

No, seriously, there's a link in the vault and everything for sharing "homebrew" or spell variant rules or character sheets and such, called "submit a file", but when you click on it, you get "You have wandered from the path..."

I apologize if this has already been suggested/created and I never noticed, including if such an addition to the site has already been tried before and was taken down due to a lack of use. I just really didn't want to read all 26 pages in search of my suggestion, and I have done a bit of a job to find a forum or subforum where it's clear that it would be the place to post variant rules (such as an 8-stat system or something, or a system involving 6 types of saving throws, or maybe simply just a new class?).

Your premise is great. You've obviously put a lot of time into it!

Although, I do think your overall writing style could use some work. I think your introduction would be better if done a bit.....slower. It seems as if you have taken a bit of Oscar Wilde's writing style, and used it to explain facts about your world as this scene takes place in the background.

It's honestly a little confusing. The root of the problem is your narration vs your characterization in the intro. I honestly haven't read the whole thing though, it got kinda difficult and I just quit XD.

All you really need to do is to have the characters' interactions with each other here reveal the world building instead of narrative clauses. For example, when you mentioned the silver-blue robes indicate nobility, you could say,

"He gestured to the wine cabinets with an outstretched arm, taking the opportunity to show off the silver-blue robes attached to it and worn on the rest of his body. He wanted this soldier to know he was dealing with nobility, not some foot-soldier ruffian."

This not only describes nobility wearing fancy blue-silver robes, but it also puts in some characterization for the nobleman.

I know you'll write a great story. You've obviously got a lot, and a message to convey, which is always good! Keep up the good work man!
