We are looking for new, fresh, material for the world of Audalis. This is your chance to contribute to the community setting and join in a little friendly competition as well.

Introducing:

Legends of Audalis

Have you ever overheard a story that has been passed down from bard to bard for generations? Maybe it's about the creepy noise down by the dock. Perhaps a rumor about some legendary item with world-saving powers? The ancient ruins of a civilization lost centuries ago? Or what about the ramblings of that insane monk that lives on the hill? Could any of that be true?

Do you know of any bedtime stories parents might tell children to keep them in line, or explain the magical things going on around them? Do nightmares really come true if say, a certain event were to happen at a certain time?

These are the makings of a good legend, and a good legend is what we need. And we need your help to write it. I am therefore introducing the Legends of Audalis contest.

The Purpose:

To further flesh out Audalis and have some fun at the same time.

The Rules:

- Submissions should be sent to Admiral via Private Message. The Contest will run May 3rd, 2011 - June 1st, 2011. If you have any questions feel free to post them here or send me a PM.

- You MUST be registered at the Red Dragon Inn to enter. It's free and fast. No excuses here.

- Entries must fit into the Audalis setting. The world is huge and much of it is not yet fleshed out, so this shouldn't be too much to deal with. There is a lot of blank space on the map, so you might even create an entirely new place. Make it your own.

- You must have a source of the legend. Where would one hear it? Is it the ramblings of a hermit or a bedtime story told since before anyone can remember? Is it local to one area or widespread? Is it only known among gypsies? Traders? Mages? How dangerous is this knowledge? Is it even true or just a fabrication? Is it an urban legend? You don't have to be painstakingly specific, but remember these legends will ultimately be used by a DM in his or her game, so the more boring aspects should be presented as well. The players don't need to know every minute detail about the legend, but the DMs and contest judges do.

- The Entry may be about a person, place, thing, or anything else, but it must have a hint of mystery. The weekend market in Bayris would not make a good legend. Something that supposedly happened at the market a long time ago or an item that supposedly keeps returning to the market every 100 years, on the other hand, would make a great entry!

It can be past, present, or futuristic (forewarning, etc.) in nature. True or Fake. As mundane as stepping on a crack to break your mama's back, or as epic as The One Ring.

It can funny! While Joke entries are indeed welcome, serious entries should be funny within the context of the world. Funny entries could include cursed items, old gypsy bands, or potentially anything involving Cidals or Brathunspar. The legend of the Khordal stand up comedian just wouldn't be taken seriously. It might still get a laugh and possibly a gag gift prize, but don't expect to take first place with it.

- Entries must be submitted by June 1st (tentative) Entires will be judged by a panel of three judges. They will be judged anonymously, and the judges won't know who submitted which entry until it's over.

- All entries are subject to the ToS

- Fun is Mandatory

I already mentioned in chat I would be participating I wasn't aware I needed to do something specific to join? So umm this is me. Officially joining said contest! Rejoicing is as always optional

You're fine. We launch live May 1st, so you guys got plenty of time. Once we figure out how we're going to handle entries, then we'll have more details on how to "enter."

I'll be setting up a custom entry form for the contest. It would be great if folks would not only enter, but also post it other places that it is okay to do such (facebook, twitter, etc).

I do not have a twitter account I believe the entire affair to be a vile blight on the world!

I will however mention it to some of my friends at the next friends of the Library meeting. There are several there it might appeal too as a lighter writing distraction.

Speaking of lighter writing Mr.Webmaster, did you recieve the article I sent you ok?

And will SOMEONE tell me please how to indent a paragraph on here! It is driving me insane!

Am I allowed to enter the contest? Being a publisher, I'm not sure if that disqualifies me or not.

I don't see why it wouldn't, unless you know something I don't.

Since we don't have a business agreement, there is no conflict of interest that I see (which is why publishers are often prohibited from entering). Feel free to enter!

I hope to be able to join it, I have my motivation back, so now just gotta dig up through this mushyness of mine and think up an incredible Legend. I will write it so well that you will believe it real even here!

We didn't quite make the May 1st deadline, folks - I lost power for several days due to the tornadoes here in Alabama. I hope to have an actual entry form up by tomorrow.
