Hear me out on this.....

So I was lurking on the site, debating whether or not to sign in, and reading old threads. and an idea come to me. an insanely awesome, totally unrealistic, and certainly unoriginal idea. why doesn't anyone run a game in the dragon chat?

i know how much work it takes to DM a game, and that no1 has the time. but it seems to me like a great way to pull the site back together again, as we seem to be drifting away even when real life doesnt have us in a metaphorical full nelson. if we could make it a regular thing (a dreamer's dream's dream), it would certainly help our problem of newbies not sticking around as much.

So yeah... i kno this isn't gonna happen.... but does anybody have any thoughts?

Well...

... it had occured to me to run small games in the Dragonchat.

I'd happily do so. It'd only be one-off little adventures, nothing particularly complicated, and very roleplay-based rather than rule-based.

I suppose I could even make it a weekly thing.

Anyone like the idea?

EDIT: When I say "little adventures" I MEAN little adventures ^^

The Way I see It

It'd take a fair bit of coordination, but my interest is perked.

...Just gotta figure out the time differences.

Edit: Based upon the time stamp, I am three hours behind the Inn.

love the idea! I've been trying to do that when ever I can! Thanks for thinking about the idea!

Well...

... if we had a little note somewhere, or a thread with schedules for that sort of game, anyone could turn up

I shall start to work on some ideas for games, and see what I can get ^^

(edit: I'm two hours ahead of the Inn.)

Well I lurk most evenings but never really know when I'll get on or for how long I'll stay. I guess I'll just lurk some more and watch what you kids do with this.

*sigh...*

If only I weren't at a loss for ideas I'd think would work. Maybe I should think a little more outside the box and go see what people on this site like and not just what I like/in a way copied. Adn though it's not sticking to the topic, does anyone know where Malek04 went, I really miss him! : (

.

I've been involved with dragon chat based games before, and the problems that you run into with them are:

A) Timing, since many people on this site live in many different spots all over the world

B) Organization, since it is live and coming up with adventures and having the same problems as a live group with derailings and what not with chats and ooc stuff.

C) Dedication, as it is hard to get someone to come on at the same time every week with things popping up all the time, and it is much harder to deal with a missing PC in this thatn pbp.

Iunno, those are some things that came to my mind when dealing with this, but i see combining forum based gaming with chat gaming can work out as long as everyone honestly has the time and will to do it all.

*shrugs*

i know. Its totally unrealistic, but i just wanted to discuss it..... if it could be worked out, i think it would be a large step forward for the Inn.... I'd run it myself, but aside from being a horrible DM (i've tried), with my current job training (26 hours a day) i cant commit to it myself yet... just wanted to knock it around

well you got me thinking now....oh boy!

heres what im gonna try.....create a thread inviting people to join a small adventure on a given day (a day in which I have quite a bit of time). and run whoever shows up. it would be rules based but loose and trusting hack n slash type stuff.

When i was a WOTC member they used to have chat rooms specifically dedicated to "pickup gaming". It would be better here cause you don't have to type in the dice bot commands or when you wanna let a pc in on something you don't want the others to know.

what I want to know is , on average, on what day are the most people here?

from what i've seen....

more people are here tue and wed, but they nvr have much time on those days

EDIT: what got me thinking originally is that things like this must be why the DC has a die roller... couldnt just be for character creation, too many other ways to do it. Also, would be interesting to see the swords room open

Great idea.

I think this is a great idea. And I think it would be quite doable. I think the Chat program is reliable enough now to make it happen.

Two ways to go about it:

1) Gather a group of players/DM who are willing to commit to meeting regularly for a specific length of time (i.e. Mondays, 8 PM - 11 PM EST). This would run almost like a table top group.

2) I'm not sure how to run it, but the idea of a "pick-up" game of DnD is a really neat one too. For this type of game, I would imagine the DM would still have to commit to being online at a regularly scheduled time (which you would advertise, likely weekly to remind the community). The DM would also be required to create a number of "ready-to-go" PCs, which players could just jump into. You could keep the PCs together on a separate thread which players could refer to. I'm not sure about the type of game you could run, but checking out WotC's site might be really helpful in this regard.

One thing that will be required is to lay out some ground rules regarding exceptable play on the Chat. The rules should contain (at a bare minimum) sections containing dice rolling, IC and OOC posting, language and "flaming", etc. These rules could also be kept in the same thread as the character sheets.
