It's hasty but it will do.
Nel d’Deneith: The very name is a contradiction, seeing as Nel roughly translates to ‘Not’ or ‘No’ in many tongues. Perhaps though, the name fits the Blademark and Defender well considering the young Deneithian had to fight for many years even to be recognized as a member of her lineage, her birthright.
Nel d’Deneith you see, is the bastard daughter of a rather impious d’Deneithian noble, (feel free to insert a name DM it may hold some importance down the road) and a tavern wench whose pretty face and aspirations to leave the lower wards of Sharn made her easy pray for the likes of a man with more money than morals. Needless to say, some nine month’s later Nelisara was born into the world. Marissa, Nel’s mother tried in vain to contact the father of her child, but to no avail, as the powerful noble denied any and all claims of the worthless whore, and made light of the infants name telling her she was ‘No’ d’Deneith. Heartbroken and unable to support a newborn, Marissa eventually gave Nel up to an orphanage eager to give new life to those who would otherwise be left without. Unbeknownst to Marissa, the orphanage was a front to a local crime syndicate, (possibly give me a name here?) who raised the children to become the future generations of their guild’s ranks.
Nel grew up showing impressive skills at the thievery trade, growing each cycle more and more into an established rogue, not to mention a beautiful young woman. Nel learned to work her natural gifts into her work, and soon became a subtle master of manipulation as well as other forms of deception. Nel particularly found an interest –no—a pleasure in the study of poisons along the way. She compared the ability to inflict extensive pain or crippling conditions upon one’s victims similar to the lingering feelings of emptiness and abandonment having never known her true parents…
That would all change.
Having been tasked with collecting debts owed from a local tavern, Nel walked the shadows up to the building and strolled through the front door; just another passer-by down on their luck as far as anyone was concerned. Entering the establishment, Nel was happy that the place was empty save for a portly man behind the bar and a single woman in about her mid-thirties wiping down tables.
Nel strolled up to the man behind the bar and in a seductive but deathly serious tone told him:“Seems you’ve not had any incidents lately, and it’s that time again to ensure it stays that way.”
Porter, the barkeep knew instantly why she was here, but the lack of incidents hadn’t been from the guild’s ‘protection’ but rather a drop in business.
“I..I can’t pay this month, we’ve barely covered our stock, the people haven’t been coming in as often lately, seems “
Nel meant business, that’s why the guild had sent her. In a smooth motion he drew a fine dagger from a sheath at her side and plunged it into the bar-top between Porter’s pointer finger and thumb.
“That’s too bad, I can see business isn’t going to improve anytime soon either..”
“M..miss I’ve barely enough to support me wife an kids, surely you understand.”
Nel merely scoffed and laughed. “Can’t say that I can, my own whore of a mother tossed me aside, and my father, who knows which bumbling fool that could be.“
At that remark, the tavern wench, aged but still beautiful for her age approached, and almost stuttered the word “Nelisara?” Spinning faster than one would imagine, Nel brought her dagger up to the woman’s throat, her stare cold. “Who are you that you know my name?” The woman barely able to contain herself, let herself practically fall around Nel, crushing her in a hug mindless of the thin blade which drew a thin line across her cheek as it glanced her. “Nel, thank the god’s you’ve been returned to me. I’m your mother.”
~~~~Fast Forward~~~
Marissa had told Nel everything that had transpired and while Nel couldn’ty let her disappointment in her mother subside so easily, she could understand why what had happened had happened. Knowing her father was of the high Dragonmarked however only drove her to meet with him in person, to let him lay eyes upon his child, to lay eyes on what he had abandoned some 17 years ago.
~~~~Fast Forward~~~ (insert noblesname)’s bedchamber
She had stalked and crept, waited and hidden, and here she lay within his chamber, while he prepared for bed, oblivious that she stood only feet from him, hidden in a shroud of shadows cast from the night sky and abundance of elegant draperies. As the noble stepped forward, she met him in the middle of his bedchamber, and pushed him atop his bed.
“Look at me father, look at the woman you left and hoped would die as a child.”
The man could only look on in shock.
“Look at me, Nelisara d’Deneith. You can deny me no more”
“Impossible.. you, you can’t be here!”
“If I’m not here, then I cannot do this.” Nel stepped forward and smacked her Father hard across the face, her delicate hands leaving a red impression upon the man’s terrified visage.
“I now know who I am, and so shall the world, you can deny me no longer. I am reborn, and I am d’Deneith!” As she proclaimed her bloodline to the world, her forearm began to burn and swell, as the least mark of the sentinel appeared upon her flesh.
Nel grimaced then smiled. The god’s had accepted her.
Her father passed out.
~~~~Fast Forward~~~~
Nelisara the very next day approached house d’Denieth with proof of her birthright, and her hopes of joining their ranks, a mixture of learning more about her lineage as to piss her old man of f. She didn’t however completely cut ties with the guild that had fostered her. She owed them much, and over the years she rose in notoriety amongst the Blademarks and Defenders while keeping open the lines of communication with her ‘family’ of the past. Nel had found the good life, merging the respect of house d’Deneith with the black market resources of the guild. In exchange for a overlook here, or a transport their while on ‘official’ business, Nel had managed to walk the line and profit from it.
Then the war came
~~~~Fast Forward~~~
House d’Deneith had dispatched many Defenders to the war, and along the way many parties were lost, broken and forged anew. Along the way Nel had met a handful of other mercenaries, and since their ‘larger goal’ was the same, had remained, and befriended them. Another family she had found, one forged in battle and one she cared deeply for. For the remainder of the War they had fought together, forming their own special group, and for two years afterwards they traveled still. Now they find themselves returning to familiar places (wherever the game starts at) and Nel wonders what the future has in store.

things to say...
Philosopher, you are more than welcome to join. So that I can at least start the game while you are gone for the weekend, a general idea about the character would certainly help (like race and class).
As for you Kaelyn, I have to say that those stats of yours aren't really believable. If I had actually been watching you making those rolls, I could allow them. And even if you had actually rolled them, which I'm going to trust that you did, I still couldn't allow those stats. They are just way overpowering. But I am not completely without heart. I will allow it if, and only if, you lower one of your stats by 2. I can't have an entire campaign rest on a single character with super stats. Sorry.
Also, I have to disapprove to the Background. Backgrounds never came up in any discussion and if it would have I could have told you then that I would not approve it. You have to ditch the Background. Again, sorry.
As for a criminal organization, I suggest the Boromar Clan, the largest criminal organization in Sharn. The Boromar Clan has several captains of the City Watch in their pockets, so getting away with crime is easier. Being a member also gives you several advantages which often appear as discounts on goods and other stuff. The disadvantage is that the criminal organization known as Daask becomes your enemy. Daask is pretty much the only organization who are threat to Boromar's omnipotence in the underworld.
The clan is ruled by the Halfling family Boromar and the majority of its members are Halflings, although anyone of any race can become a member.
Nel's father is Drogyn Escolith d'Deneith, more commonly known as Drogyn d'Deneith. He might appear to the characters, although unlikely due to Nel, or his name might appear in the Sharn Inquisitive.
