Heroes of the Past

Let me spin you a tale,
As big and as round as your mind.
About that fabled one,
The hero of Dragon kind.

The first and the oldest,
As the tale is unfurled.
Was that old Nordic snake,
That encircled the world.

Twice round the earth,
His body did spin.
And against e'en old Thor,
A wrestling match he did win.

His jaw shut on his own tail,
Away he himself eats.
Always growing, ever feeding,
His mouth never reaching his feets.

The first and the last,
The only of his kind.
It's for his solitary life,
He's the hero of Dragon kind.
