Topic: D&D 4.0 Discussion
Subject: one more rant.

I admit I downloaded the books, skimmed through the PHB and promptly deleted the heretical bits from my computer, and this is coming from a gamer that grew up on 3rd and 3.5, what I know of 2nd edition is limited to the little I've heard and Icewind Dale, the computer game.

Removal of half of the alignments, abilities divided by per day, per encounter, at will... revamp of the races and the bonuses you get for being a race, classes, and then there's the part I hate the most.

I play World of Warcraft, love it, have a friend that played Guildwars, both of us saw similarities of both games and 4th edition. DnD has always been it's own game, and any console or computer game using DnD rules have the DnD logo on it, now it feels... like an MMO knock-off.

I'm going to stay away from 4th ed. and I'm actually looking around to see if I can get my hands on 2nd edition and the popular 1st edition and see what they're like.

WotC are trying to streamline the game, make it more narrow and specific to make it easier to play, but in my opinion it's the sheer flexibility of the older versions that made DnD so great, yeah some of the rules were vague and there were a lot of loopholes, but that made the game more fun, especially when you have a good DM that can make a good house rule on the spot.

-----------------------------------------------------------
For any who might remember me, yes I'm back, kinda, don't expect me to try to get back into any games soon, but you'll see me around in the forums.

Lana blinked as Jeena fell, her mind coming to a conclusion just as the poor girl hit the ground, but before she could say or do anything, a concussive blast knocked her flat. She shook her head as she struggled to her feet, trying to clear out the ringing, cursing loudly as blaster fire soon surrounded them.

Lana was already on her way over to the two when Caise yelled gave the order to get them to safety, she looked down at the poor girl, caught up in something not even Lana fully understood yet, completely innocent and yet is now dying, if not dead. That's enough to piss anyone off.

Lana looked up at Jaal, "You heard the Jedi! If she has any chance of surviving, both of you need to find some cover! Now!"

(If Jaal complies, she'll help him to get to cover then find some of her own to shoot at those responsible, if not, then she'll pick up Jeena and give Jaal a swift kick to get him moving, Lana's not feeling very patient right now.)

(I know it's not much, but at least it's a post, I really need to catch up in all my games.)

Adysine cleaned off her blades and sheathed them, Groar just seems to have been full of himself, even with his "help" the Blades took them all down without taking serious injuries, bad injuries, yes, but not serious.

Nel gave out orders as she started checking Groar for valuables, telling the others to do the same, Adysine scratched her head, seeing the glimmer in her eyes again, knowing that whatever she's thinking, they'll find out in due time. Adysine turned and started checking the other corpses, starting with the first orc she felled, as she did so, she glanced at Mongiere, making sure he was alright.

Reya jumped when the fight started, one of the people who yet to introduce herself leapt up, looking almost ready to attack Vyarp after the little kobold introduced himself. Reya sat back and watched as the room broke into chaos, fortunately though, there were others on Vyarp's side and started to convince the others to back down.

Reya, who had stayed back in case of injury, moved to gently put a hand on Vyarp, stopping him from moving closer to Arback.

"You have proven you meant no harm when you revealed your race to us, no need to provoke Arback any further."

Reya then looked up to the others, especially Arback and the woman who had started this, "I'm sorry to hear that Vyarp's kind has caused you grief in the past, but to throw the crimes of his race onto him just because he's near makes you no better, please everyone, sit down. While we're not here to like each other, we are here to get along to complete our mission together."

Adysine didn't find anyone, maybe this was one of the times the enemy was all hot air after all.

Adysine glanced at her comrades, Draven just got hit by Groar, but didn't seem hurt to bad, Nel was uninjured, Disq was nowhere to be seen, but his music could be heard, and Mongerie had taken a bad hit from his foe. Adysine rushed to his aid, moving to attack the orc from behind.

Adysine ducked down beneath the orc's falchion, the big weapon moving the orc off balance and making him an easy target. She took full advantage of the opening, slashing him across his chest with one of her swords and burying the blade of the other into his gut, the orc falling when she pulls the sword out, his blood pooling underneath him.

Adysine stood back up and looked around, Draven already dropped his foe and was moving to help Nel, who had skillfully dodged Groar's attack, enraging the orc even more. Mongiere missed with his attack, but only just, as easy as the other two were, he should be able to take out the last orc easy enough, which made Adysine worry. Either Groar's much tougher than he looks, or...

Adysine stands her ground for a moment longer, eyes scanning the place for anyone else that might pose a threat, ready to move if she couldn't find anyone.

(Forfeiting initiative, Adysine will look around for anyone else that seems to be on Groar's side, if by the end of the round she doesn't see anyone, she'll move to help Mongiere)

Subject: Well

I'm torn, for I have had a bunch of characters, but two I particularly liked (that I can think of at the moment).

1st one, Himo Tharivol, A human fighter, blind all his life, so he had blindsense (Mind you I played this guy in late elementary/early Junior High), wielded a greatsword and was one hell of a fighter. He faced off against a troll at too low a level, troll took a tree, whacked him, sending him flying, and he just got back up and felled the beast. Another fight was against the ant-like Ankheg (or whatever it's called), due to his blindsense he was able to tell where the insect was even when underground (had to be within 5-10 feet for him to know though). The insect burrowed up and clamped his helm with its pincers, lifting him off the ground, Himo simple ran it through with his greatsword and that was that.
Note that this guy rolled 18+ all the time on dice that never rolled 5+ on any other character (Replaced them as soon as I could)

I'll tell you guys about my second later, I got other posts to finish.

Being the DM of a group of how many female gamers? nice!

Sounds like a lot of fun and the way I normally DM, which involves me thinking of a general goal (Small kingdom under attack having to defend themselves with the PC's help until help comes, only to find out the help wasn't for them while the Shadowbane Inquisitor worked solo to find a very sick, twisted murderer.) And imagine the rest, how it's going to be done, what's happening now and how to counter/react to that. In other words, think of the setting, what's the general goal (whether or not it's known to the PC's) and come up with the rest when needed.

Continuing on with the discussion though, as I mentioned before, I was DMing a group that consisted of a Stonechild... ranger I believe, a human Necromancer/Spellsword a human Shadowbane Inquisitor, and... something else, I can't remember for the life of me right now. They came to a small kingdom that was preparing for a desperate war against a much larger kingdom and needed help, the PC's decided to assist when Whitefire (the inquisitor) found out that a series of gruesome murders were happening and the local guard was completely stumped. So the group split everyone went out and fought while Whitefire stayed and investigated the crimes (with some help of a NPC Shadowbane Stalker)

To make a long story short, the battle was to last until the allied kingdom Baron came to help, but instead Baron came to help the hostile army. What was the best part was my annoying switches between groups ("You guys hear the commander shout, "Retreat! Baron's turned and is fighting against us! Fall back to the castle!" and everyone starts retreating, now to Whitefire, you-" "Oh goddammit Greg!") ("Alright Whitefire, you sneak into the murderer's house and suddenly the door slams shut, you sprung a trap!. Now to the guys in the field" "Oh Goddammit!")

Needless to say, it was a blast, and the PC's all survived, the murderer was put to justice and the kingdom won, but only just.

Adysine was just starting to stand up and leaver herself when a dark-clad figure leapt up and shouted at Nel, "NEL! Your days are told, human filth, for I am Groar, the unkillable, and I will have your head in the name of the Daask! Comrades! To arms! Leave no human alive!"

Adysine continued to rise, drawing her dual shortswords and turning to face the orcs as Nel issued her commands, in which Adysine replied with a smirk, "You can have that one, he looks like he's a terrible dance partner, I'm gonna go try my luck with those three over there, one of them surely knows how to dance."

The air in front of Adysine seemed to shimmer for a heartbeat, only noticeable to those paying close attention, before returning to normal. "Mongiere, there's four orcs besides Groar, who's (gives near exact location), the other three are, (gives locations for all three)" Adysine quickly said before moving towards the three orcs.

(activating aberrant dragonmark, moving to the three orcs and attacking if possible, in position to back away if need be)

It's been a week since Reya parted with Arn, the man who adopted her after the death of her parents and raised her on the road, and she was starting to wonder about what to do when she walked into the trade city of Sankirst. She trudged through the busy town streets to look for a place where she can rest and came across The Blazing Heretic Inn and Tavern, Nice name was her thought as she stepped in, listening to the sounds coming from inside, it was a busy place and most likely full, but she decided to try her luck here before moving on to the next inn. She was surprised, to say the least, to see the mass of people in the Blazing Heretic, never before had she seen so many people of so many different races and classes, from the cutthroat warrior to some that looks like they'd rather be in a library. She walked a few steps in, and notices a rather lengthy line on one side.

Curious, Reya walked up to a dwarf, a race she's grown much respect for in her travels, and started speaking to him, "Excuse me master dwarf, can I have a moment of your time?"

The dwarf turned and eyed her up and down, looking, as dwarves always do, suspicious of this stranger, he replied in heavily accented common "Wot ye want lass?". Another dwarf beside him looked at Reya and said quietly to the first dwarf in their native tongue. "Watch out fer this one lad, she seems mighty suspicious ta me, wearin' armour but no blade."

Reya nods politely at the line "I'm sorry to bother you, but can you tell me what all those people over there are waiting for?"

"Ya mean ya dinnae know? Bloody 'ell lass, where'd ya been? 'Ere, take a look a' this." The first dwarf grumbled and pulls a notice out of his pocket and handed it to her, Reya thanked him and started reading it, the second dwarf continuing to talk to the first,

"Look at her, no meat on her bloody bones, she's a pretty one I'd grant ya that, but she's so damn young, a little tyke playing at being a grown up. She should go back home an' grow up a wee bit first, wanderin around like that, without even a weapon! She'd better watch out before someone tries to find their way into her pants"

Reya looked up at the desk, then back down to the notice, if this is right, than that means she can travel with a group again, a group that might be needing her healing talents, and someone to try to talk people out of fighting, the rewards are just too great to be given without bloodshed. She handed the notice back, thanking the first dwarf in their rough tongue before talking to the second one. "Thank you for this information master dwarf, may your beard always be full, and your concern is noted good sir, I'll try to keep away from those who think I'm pretty, lest they try to do as you suggest." Reya turned and moved to the back of the line as the first dwarf roars with laughter at his surprised friend.

The line moved slowly, many were sent up the stairs as many more are sent away, angrily stomping or sadly shuffling outside. When it finally became Reya's turn the woman glanced at her, then down at the papers "Next"

Reya stood in place, not moving until the woman looks up at her again, taking a closer look at her dusty, travel worn gear, the woman sighed "Alright miss, tell me how you think you can help us."

Reya nods, taking in a small breath before talking "I know I look young, but I've spent eight years traveling around, I've probably seen more places and things than most in this room have, I know how to take care of a wound even without my healing magics, and I'm proficient in several languages, and still learning more."

The woman leaned back in her seat, staring at this motionless Reya, weighing her words, trying to find exaggeration or lies in the girls words. "This isn't going to be a game girl, there will be things that will try to kill you out there, this is serious, you know that right?"

Reya nodded, followed by the woman "Very well, up the stairs, someone will direct you from there"

Reya smiled softly and thanked her, going up the stairs, she was led to a room with several other people sitting around a table who glanced at her as she took a seat. Everyone then waited quietly, the tension in the room obvious, Reya shifted in her seat, jumping a little as another man walked in, introducing himself as Arlaun, handing out papers and instructions before leaving.

Reya studied the roll of paper handed to her, noticing the map as the man, wearing a bandana, leaned forward and introduced himself as Basque, followed by two more, a dwarf named Arback and a woman named Celene, Reya nodded in greeting, smiling as she said "I'm Reya Crystalis, wandering healer."

Reya's voice had a unique accent, best described as no accent at all, making it all the stranger.

Full the moon and midnight sky
Through the dark they ride
Warriors of forever will sacrifice the night

One for all and all for one
The future time has come
Faces filled with torment
Your heart beats like a drum

Never will you look back again
You'll fight on 'til the end
Together we will live on
Forever more...

In this land we have defended from all things dark and cruel
Now we are defenseless in a land where dragons rule

In this land we have defended from all things dark and cruel
Now we are defenseless in a land where dragons rule

Flash of steel in the mid-day sun
The battle has begun
Blood spills all around us but still we carry on

No mercy we will show to them
The white flag shall be raised
We'll fight for our freedom
Ride towards this evil place

We all stand until the end allegiance to this game

In this land we've defended from all things dark and cruel
Now we're defenseless in a land where dragons rule

In this land we've defended from all things dark and cruel
Now we're defenseless in a land where dragons rule

Sun set in the western sky
The battle's almost done
The victory will be glorious
Our enemies are gone

We all stand until the end allegiance to this game

Adysine spent most of the day out enjoying the rain. While she enjoyed the relative peace that the end of the war has brought, she's been feeling a little restless, the extra time given to her by her ring of sustenance didn't help any either.

She went straight to the Lone Tower Tavern after getting the summons, soaked through from hours of walking and standing in the rain and saw a few of the others there already ||Good, I don't have to do any talking then|| was the first thought to her mind as she walked over to the others and took a seat beside Nel, greeting her while nodding at the others.

She took a quick note on who was here, Disq, who was eying an elven maid between drinks, decent in a fight but better in a condition that required a more gentle approach, when you could take his mind off of women long enough. Draven, who Adysine still doesn't trust fully, but has proven himself an ally time and again, and certainly someone Adysine didn't want to fight against, as strange and unbelievable as some of the rumors were about him, she wouldn't be surprised if any if not all turn out to be true. Adysine was surprised to see Mongiere there, mainly because of his blindness in such a perilous city, but after seeing how perceptive the man could be in combat, it makes a little sense. Most importantly, her friend Nel was there, basically the only person she could truly call friend, the two have gone through a lot together, on and off the battlefield and for that Adysine was thankful.

Adysine was watching the brawl in the middle of the tavern, on edge in case someone decided to bring it their way when Landiir entered, followed by a warforged. He walked over to them and greeted everyone, Adysine nodded in greeting, letting him know she was listening to him as she continued to watch the brawl, staring one way while listening to something from the other direction is a habit of Adysine's that most find annoying. She continued to watch as he introduced Edge and started the conversation, one sentence he said though, made her turn, completely focused on the discussion at hand.

β€œit was Maurd. Our own Maurd Dalaan is dead. Murdered on his way from the embassy.”

Adysine knew and respected Maurd, he knew very little of fighting, but he had a way with people Adysine never dreamed of even coming close to, he deserved better than to be killed, especially the way Landiir described it. The discussion was interrupted by a drunken elf walking up and asking them if they wanted to join him and his friends, but changed his mind after seeing the gray eyed glare he got from Adysine.

Adysine shifted in her seat, snorting in annoyance as Disq blew Landiir off and went after the elven waitress. ||Ah well, I can't expect anything else from him, he's a good man, despite his excessive love of women, I do hope his head hurts horribly in the morning though|| She then returned her attention to the topic at hand, her body language letting everyone know she's in, Maurd's murder needs to be avenged, she'll do whatever she can to help

(*sigh* got ready to start typing and hit writer's block, oh well, I'd like to think I did a decent enough job)
