While Anyroth certainly did not appreciate Searo's gesture of grabbing his finger, he had no time to react. His lips began to shape a puzzled question:

- Sorry? You're sorry for ... what?

He couldn't even tell whether his words were a mere intention or they did in fact echo in the room. By the time this thought dissipated, however, Anyroth suddenly found there was no room. Somehow it had been replaced by the image in the shimmering mirror and the pleasant atmosphere of Searo's house had been replaced by a shivering cold.

The half elf realized then he tried to ask the wrong question. He should've asked what time Searo meant but the time for lament had already passed.

Solomon needed assistance, obviously under threat by the two ragged figure ... and others were joining in! He gave the northman a meaningful gaze. Although they hadn't had time to get acquainted, it seems this turn of fate made them into brothers in arms. Open battle was not the half elf's way.

Anyroth was unable to hold his lips from releasing a couple of elven swear words. The elven tongue that he learned since he was young was definitely not made for situations like these, yet he took a certain delight in making up veiled curses.

As Searo handed him the other corner of the tapestry, he pulled it off and further with one swift move. The halfling's agitation had not completely infected Anyroth, but he certainly felt compelled to move swiftly and lend a hand in Searo's actions. For one thing, he was pretty sure that Searo did not waste a evening and all that food just to get them killed now.

Anxiously at the sight of a secret door, the half-elf put his own weight to work to make the door move. In the meantime, Searo's ramblings started to make an odd kind of sense. A machine made to cancel magic, protecting the king's army from sorcery. The machine was deactivated triggering an alarm.

As they all gathered around the magical mirror, the images within were no surprise. Vasgar was under attack.

"Betrayal", Anyroth whispered. His mind could not conceive another cause for the carnage that laid before them. The undead were swarming there, so many, so vidid images that he felt a shiver running down his spine. Suddenly he felt he knew too much about the happenings of the world. Suddenly he wished he was back in the guildhall, sipping ale, oblivious of the undead army or the raging battles waged who-knows-where in this wretched world. But apparently death waited for no one.

Anyroth leaned back in his chair, listening intensely to the answer that Searo gave. His face grew grave in the face of the obvious lack of information which was both teasing and somewhat insulting him.

Of course magic users like Searo had a penchant for vagueness but they were there at his bequest and this seemed more like a step backwards in this strange relationship.

Anyroth did not like being pushed ahead without the most powerful asset people like him had: information. Anyroth dreaded the feeling of not having a choice. Yet at this moment both him and the northman had been served a share of both.

At this particular break point in the half-elf's thoughts, the servants entrance came as a much needed change of pace. When you have no choices, make some his mentor's advice flashed in his mind. However, even in the face of Searo's obvious distress (and certainly a magic user in distress is no little thing), he had to ask:

- What in the abyss is going on here? What's wrong Searo?

He grabs a handful of grapes from the table before instinctively jumping over to help toss the tapestry aside.

Subject: At Searo's table

Anyroth sank in one of the chairs around the table and after taking a moment to peruse the offer, the decided on an assortment of small fruits. His appetite got severed by the stench of the city.

The half-elf was by no means a delicate person. Yet the mix of Duncan's ethnic and social soup could be hard to bear when strolling without the immediate opportunity for profit.

And now a Northlander, one of those people of few words but with a heavy blade ... or at least that's what his instincts told him.

His ears perked, he listened to Searo's words about their purpose there. It wasn't much but in a way they served to quench a bit Anyroth's fears about him being there. His mind skipped the facy talk about being hand-picked for a mission against the undead.

Upon hearing of Nixmir, his appetite dimmed even more. He remembered words of mouth and tales about the necromancer Vardon and his unholy minions. There was no love of undead in Anyroth, in fact the mere mention of such abominations stirred feelings of near hate. His elven side reminded him of that life and dead were antagonists and nature's course did not include the outcome of necromancy.

He merely glanced at Searo and voiced the most obvious of two questions that rose in his mind:

- What is expected of us ? he said

Subject: Anyroth and the rich feast

On his way upward, Anyroth made every effort to pace himself, taking advantage of seconds passing to commit to his memory various relevant details about the tower, especially regarding the strange crest on the door. It was an odd selection indeed, but perhaps not to odd for someone acquainted with magic, he mused as he decided to memorize this model not before trying to think if he had seen or heard of this before ((GM?)).

Anyroth made no attempt to disguise his surprise at the sight of this veritable banquet although he did held some reserves about some of the food on the table.

The strawberries spoke of a refined nobleman with rich coffers, as if the gold were not enough for that. Some good might still come off this Anyroth thought. Moments ago he had been cursing his guildmaster for heeding the envoy with the letter, but now plans were building up in his mind how to turn all these events to his advantage. Surely, there were worse things than dealing with someone who would waste a fortune on such a generous feast ... yet he knew that a sufficient amount of gold in his pouch would make these thoughts go away.

Instead of voicing his doubts (especially some regarding said foods on display) he opted for a polite bow accompanied by a greeting:
"A pleasure to make your acquaintance sir DeCorwyn, I see you are a man of fine tastes" he paused to turn to Ansgar to whom he offered similar words "As it is a pleasure to meet you, Ansgar of the Northern Kingdoms." he measured both men, while hoping for a good moment to voice some questions.

Tightly wrapped in his hooded cloak, Anyroth made his way through Duncan's labyrinths. Ever since that letter landed in his hands, a feeling of suspicion about anything and everything became his companion with ever step he took. He could not help wonder what made men in King Solomon's court to mention his name, Anyroth Swiftblade, to the king.

Anyroth fancied himself as one who tries to keep his name safe from certain circles but in this particular case something hand transpired and it was too late now to do anything but follow the letter wherever it may lead.

Right now it lead at the doorstep of this DeCorwyn tower where, apparently, he was expected. As the servant welcomed him in, Anyroth lowered his hood and started performing his habit of looking around the room where the servant leads him to. Surely he was expected and since he was still alive, that meant nothing except that the powers that be had a mission for him, one he expected to start soon.

In the meantime, he decided to politely refuse both the tea and the blanket, at least until he had a chance to meet the lord.

Hello everyone!

Real name's Andrew and I used to haunt this place quite some time ago (years if I'm not mistaking, I left before the website was changed to this one) when I was using the name Nightwind.

Anyway, time went by and I found that I really missed reading all those cool stories people were writing (as well as the games) so ... I'm here.

If anyone could point me to a D&D/FR campaign still looking for players, I'd be eternally grateful (no Star Wars though).

Cheers!
