Subject: Rematch?

I'd be interested in having another swing at this. 2-a-week might be a slight issue, but I'd probably be able to average 1 and a half? Sounds like a slightly grittier world this time around. Might need some character attitude adjustments!

It appears that this thread was old. Wow I'm slow.

Kerri doesn't know if she can catch a car. Mostly because I don't know if she can catch a car. In any case, she's unloading everything she has on trying to halt the car and drop it safely.

Subject: Eventful arrival?

On the up side, Delta six gained an important piece of information immediately. On the down side, it didn't look like the police really had things under control!

As Kerri jumped nimbly out of the truck her head immediately snapped towards the sound of the screams, and the sudden flush of adrenaline presented the scene to her mind in what felt like stark slow-motion - a police car *flying* straight towards a scrambling group of people!

Instinct kicked in, her left arm raising to point her hand palm first at the sailing vehicle, the familiar surge of power rising.. and for the first time in her life she turned it all loose, unfolding the unusual telekinetic abilities of her mind to wrap around the front of the car, trying to halt its forward motion and send it crashing straight downwards to land in front of the slow-moving old lady.

Kerri took her seat in the back of the truck.. but not without a minor sulk at the concept of being a passenger rather than the driver. Quelling her disappointment quickly she decided that what with all the crazy wrong-side-of-the-road action perhaps learning in a less mission-critical environment would be a better idea.

Briefly wondering if their elderly driver was there to supervise or render support, Kerri amused herself with mental images of him charging into the fray, complete with walking frame.

"Perhaps we should come up with a plan of action. Any ideas? When we get near the bank I can assess the situation before we run into the fray."

Sapa's question interrupted a minor giggling fit, snapping her mind back to the job at hand. Meeting those piercing silver eyes she asked a question of her own with just a hint of bitterness in her tone.

"Do we know enough to even consider making a plan? We know Hall is a madman, we know Hall has hostages, we know he's in a bank. We know we're Delta six and he's our problem. That's about all we know. Why's he in a bank? How many hostages? Does he have others in the bank with him? Are the police in attendance? Are they even going to let us in to deal with it?"

Glancing around at each of her new teammates a hint of a smile touched her lips.

"Lets face it, we know nothing, this is going to be flying by the seat of our hot little leather pants."

Subject: Giggles...

The sight of Hans plonking an antique helmet and gasmask on his head - on top of the state of the art leather jumpsuits no less - was almost enough to make Kerri laugh out loud, her giggle choking off into a coughing fit as she tried to catch herself.

Composing herself as quickly as possible she slipped quietly into the elevator, standing between Hans and Sapa while biting her lip to make sure that no giggles could possibly escape.

"Dibs on driving!" She decided as she waited rather impatiently for the rest of the team to get ready. Moments later she could contain herself no longer, and with a sideways look at a bit of a giggle she asked Hans "Nice hat.. Where'd you get that? I don't think they make that style anymore?"

I'm assuming our new handlers aren't silly enough to be sending us out with metal zippers or anything in an attempt to get us pounded? If they are then Kerri is going to call someone names!

Subject: New clothes!

Apparently at least vaguely satisfied with the explanation of Dark Mercury's capture and subsequent escape, Kerri subsided and watched without comment as the new uniforms were carried in. The opening of the box, revealing black and red leather did provoke a shake of her head, but showing rather more restraint than normal she didn't complain.

Having collected her outfit and disappeared to change however, she returned with a much more impressed look on her face, clad in perfectly fitting black and wishing she had time to study the impressive technology so she could find out everything about it.

Pre-mission nerves were starting to set in as well, making the little girl fidget and pace just a little. Commanding herself to be calm, she looked around her new companions, studying them, wishing she knew a little more about them, their personalities, their abilities.. wishing she new a little more about her OWN capabilities.

With a deep breath, calm returned and Kerri began to think productively again. Already the weapons she normally carried were locked away securely in her room, and now her sharp eyes scanned her teammates as they prepared themselves, checking silently to ensure none were carrying metal that could be used against them in the coming trial.

I really did think I'd made a post announcing my (late) arrival! But apparently I failed to do so! Oh well. Glad to be aboard, and I look forward to:

a) Slapping the guy who put a guy who controls metal in a metal cage!

b) Watching Hans take down our villain single.. uh.. many-handed.

Subject: Well that'll save some money...

Regarding the Cat-like destruction of the file with a faintly amused smile, Kerri Tyler noted that:

"At least we won't have to worry about how to destroy sensitive documents?"

The young Australian woman, obviously of Asian descent with deeply tanned skin and short black hair, had been the latest arrival, appearing a full two days after the rest of her new companions. Although she had taken the time to introduce herself, she spent her days of 'captivity' mostly keeping to herself, almost constantly playing small juggling games with her telekinetic abilities or exercising in the gym.

Now dressed in a simple black tank top and a pair of olive green cargo pants she stands comfortably with her arms folded in front of her slender body, having read through the file in rather quick time.

With the paper shredding action concluded for now, Kerri turned to Angela Ross with a question.

"You have to have more information than that. Would you care to elaborate on the failed attempts to capture the subject by the Righteous Guard? What about some more details on how he was actually captured? And more importantly how he managed to escape? This guy is dangerous. We need to go out there as prepared as possible!"

Her foot had deflected off solid bone, inches too high to be effective against the enormous demon and as she had stumbled, her foot slipping on the treacherous icy ground it had taken advantage, raking a vicious wound between her shoulderblades.

Despite the blow Tai-laan recovered her footing quickly but even as she spun back towards the mighty Herald she could feel the return stroke of the blade coming..

Desperately she twisted aside but the Herald was too swift and for all her skill and experience Tai-laan could do nothing but accept the impact and try to flow with it to lessen the damage...

Agony..

The Fellblade struck below her raised right arm and bit deep, hacking flesh and muscle from her side before raking cruelly down her ribs. A second seemed to stretch into eternity as the unholy purple lightning of the weapon crackled through the horrific wound and into her body, searing nerves and flaying at her very soul.

The world blurred, the edges of her vision dimming as blessed blackness beckoned and Tai-laan wavered on the edge of unconsciousness, the Demon's horrible aura of fear washing over her unnoticed as she faltered and began to fall...

Focus. Awareness. Balance. Defiance.

At the last instant she caught herself, sheer willpower and stubbornness beating back the descending blackness as she regained her footing and her eyes snapped up to track the path of the evil blade.

Color returned to Tai-laan's world, falling pieces of Donia's shattered Ice-lance glittering in the light of Atharam's burning blade as he charged Raykel into the path of the Herald, the sight of him bringing both a surge of awe and a twinge of guilt that he would risk himself to protect her yet again.

Drake too had lunged into the fray, his rapier thrusting and stabbing at the thighs of the beast and for a moment Tai-laan wanted to rejoin the fight before common sense took over. Her wounds were serious and she didn't even need to glance at her side to know that without immediate attention they could prove fatal.

Straightening, Tai-laan watched the battle unfolding and then choosing her spot as best she could she scampered out of the reach of her attacker, her mind already reaching for the flow of energy deep within that would allow her to heal herself if she could just focus it correctly...

OOC: Tai-laan wants to back out of reach and apply wholeness of body to heal herself as much as she can before re-entering the fray (20hp I believe). Whether this requires a tumble or not I'm not sure, but if it does lets do that. I'm also not sure if Tai-laan can move and heal herself in the same round - but it would be handy if she can!

Subject: Here we go again....

Alone in the dark but just yards from the camp Tai-laan had found an small patch of ground that would serve as a training ground this night. Despite the almost daily skirmishes that the beleaguered little group suffered through, and the brutal forced march that was necessary to keep them ahead of any pursuit she refused to lessen the practice regime that allowed her to keep her skills sharp. Without that sharpness she surely would fall. And besides, the constant training, the routines of unarmed combat, of the Sai and of the Kama had another advantage - they prevented her from having time to think.

To think of the carnage on the fields of battle, of friends lost, of the brutal series of defeats - of winning her own small fights only to find the hordes of invaders pushing everyone back, back until only the Capital stood defiant... and of the fall of Trice, the massive bridge lowered for the enemy, the desertion of the council, the horrific house to house fighting in the streets.

Nearly at the end of her session for the night the routine called for meditation, but allowing herself to pause for just a moment allowed all the despair and frustration to crash down on her shoulders and in a rare moment of weakness she allowed herself to cry. It didn't last long. Swiftly wiping the tears from her face, a deep calming breath was all it took for her to regain control - weakness was not something she could afford right now. Donia, Paorn, the civilians, they all relied on her. Atharam relied on her.

That thought brought a small smile to her face as it always did and with her mood improved, the tranquility of meditation came quickly. Unperturbed by the cold Tai-laan settled crosslegged on the ground and took.....

The strident wail of Donia's wards snapped her eyes open and she gracefully rose to her feet, simply uncoiling from a sitting position to standing without using her arms for support at all. Her breath hissed between gritted teeth in frustration at the sound - they were so close to safe haven! Quickly she secured her gear, buttoning the Vest of the Heart and adjusting her gloves before checking the rest of her meager possessions, securing her two precious books tightly before slinging her backpack across her shoulders in case sudden flight became necessary.

The rapidly growing magical portal was not a good sign she knew, ghosting quickly off to the side of the encampment and watching the preparations of her companions with a practiced eye, silently willing the civilians on as they prepared to flee if they had to. Atharam was taking up arms of course and the sight of him mounting Raykel, his burning blade held aloft was as comforting as ever. Donia and Paorn would be preparing to fight as well, as would the other men-at-arms that accompanied them. No initial charge from that portal would reach the civilians, that was certain, so Tai-laan prepared herself to join the battle from the flank, possibly to take someone by surprise, or blindside a magic wielder.

The portal continued to grow, the crackling purple lightning almost painful to watch until in a sudden flash the foe was revealed. The horrible vision was enough to send a chill of fear racing down Tai-laan's spine for a moment, for this was truly an enemy to fear - and then Atharam was charging at the demoness and the time for worry was past.

Exploding into motion the little Monk covered the ground between herself and the monstrous demoness with speed that would startle anyone who hadn't seen it before, attempting to time her arrival just moments after Atharam's.

(OOC: Damn! out of practice much?! That was hard! Okay Tai-laan can see Atharam charging and wants to arrive just after him with an attack of her own, hopefully flanking the critter and kicking the nearest thing that looks like it might hurt to have kicked.. like a knee or something.. 12 feet tall is hard work I say!)

Subject: Tai-laan at level ten

Str: 12 (+1)
Dex: 18 (+4) - improved at level 4
Con: 16 (+3)
Wis: 18 (+4) - improved at level 8

Cha: 9 (-1)

Name: Tai-Laan
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Age: 18 (must be 19 soon.. when’s my birthday?)
Class: Monk 10
Alignment: lawful good
Appearance: Standing approximately 5'4 tall and weighing approximately 135 pounds, Tai-Laan does not cut an imposing figure. She is however a natural athlete and moves with the grace of one who has been trained to understand the workings of her body and soul. Current conditions have taken a toll on Tai-laan, her arms being crisscrossed with scars left by deflected blades, her hair ragged and dirty, her general appearance disheveled and unkempt. The eager, naive girl who joined the expedition such a short time ago is nowhere to be seen now, although glimpses of a lighthearted girl from the past can still be seen whenever she can find time to spend with Atharam.

Brief History: Tai-Laan is an exile from the monastery that she was raised in, banished for 7 years at the age of 15 after crippling another student who had been harassing her for the past 6 years. Her most treasured possession is her copy of the Book of Ravellin that she studies her art from every day. Her goal in life is to prove herself worthy of returning to the monastery at the end of her exile.

Torches (4)
Soap!
Peasants clothes (x2)
Ring of sustenance
Disc of Dilemmas (Dm's note 2 uses)

Vest of the Heart <- I can’t remember what this does, although if I recall correctly it renders blunt damage subdual?
Scarlet Rose Robe-White(+1Ac +1Saves +5 Diplomacy,Heal)
Potion of Cure Serious Wounds
2x Potion of Cure Light Wounds
Ring of Protection +1 (DM's Note: Gift from Atharam)
Bandoleer with 4 throwing knives
Throwing Knive: Atk: 1d20+10 Damage 1d4+1 Crit 19-20 x2

Funds:
Gp: 85
1 Diamond worth 500gp

Okay I'm going to assume that with wearing a ring of sustenance Tai-laan has given up her stash of trail rations and water to the refugees. It generally makes sense that her equipment would have changed some and most likely she'll have expended those healing potions and throwing knives at some point along the way. I'll defer to DM judgement on equipment changes.

At level ten Tai-laan's attack becomes lawful for passing damage reduction reportedly. Skills are updated as well. I don't think I missed anything.
