(Okay so I went to get the first book, figured that was a good place to start. Came out of the basement looking highly confused and placed three books in front of my husband, all with different titles, all saying Vol 1...  How can you have 3 vol. 1's? He started me on Chronicles...  )

Though I really wanted to put bopple.
Dragonlance has a lot of volume 1's. It's because they pretend to be trilogies but despite the difference between series its just easier to read them in order cause they have a lot of elements that simply make sense if you followed the journey from the start. Like the trilogy of the Brother's Wars.

After the chronicles there's a series about Caramon and Raistlin that you won't fully understand unless you've read the Chronicles. I think it's actually called the war of the twins trilogy or something like that.

Well I've made it into chapter three of the book. Turns out I've read the first chapter several time when it was left in the bathroom or like a year but never got further than that. I'm making progress I feel!
