Paranormal Protection Agency - 2nd Edition AD&D

Whether in the darkest alleys of the largest city; the howling woods of some forlorn forest; the seemingly innocuous waters of a placid lake; or even knocking on your door: there is always that nerve-wracking feeling that something is amiss. Most often, this sense of paranoia is just that - an over inflated sense of self preservation laced with sweet fear.

In those dire times when there is more at work than the subtleties of one's own mind; when reality blurs and yields something so foreign and alien to conceive - you need protection. Be they ghosts or ghouls, or something bizarre you need not run far! You need the Paranormal Protection Agency.

The thick parchment had been slathered with sticky shellac before it was festooned to the pole. Slightly slanted, it was just one of a score like it that had already been pasted throughout the sprawling metropolis. Business was less than bustling of late, but the proprietor saw that as a good thing. He was oft fond of saying that he would love to close shoppe due to lack of patronage. His hollow toned footsteps trudged away from the wavering pool of light cast by the gaslamps of the streets as more flyers were prepared for posting.

Is this medieval

or more urban modern? And how do you want to divy out the stats?

Hmmm...

...intriguing indeed...

I may have a shadowblade that I can offer up, if such a thing would be appropriate. Lemme see what I can come up with as far as a charactersheet goes and I'll PM you the particulars... we can haggle from there I suppose.

City, Stats, and Shadowblade

We're talking Greyhawk or Waterdeep for the metropolis... a loosely based medieval city with hints of a modern society - urban setting.
- Not to be confused with Sixguns and Sorcery / Masque of the Red Death / Steampunk or similarly styled campaigns.

Stats are divvied as desired by either the 84 point (1:1) allocation or 4d6drop/reroll-ones method. No stat can be under 8 or over 18, unless Racial modifications or Age modifications (or magic) affects the ability score.

Shadowblade... I'm familiar with the Tome of Magic (3.5) PrC but nothing of the sort for 2nd Edition. Is this a site-posted content?

Shadowblade...

...is a fighter/thief kit from the Complete Book of Thieves, if I recall correctly, Mithral... See below and let me know if you're okay with it... if not, I'm sure I can come up with something else.

Kit Description
Description: The Shadowblade is considered an elite member of the thieving community. He is a dark and foreboding character combining the subtlety of a thief with the deadly skills of a warrior. Many thieves’ guilds will have one or two in their employ. Other shadowblades hire themselves out to the highest bidder. Whether it’s assassination, bounty hunting, enforcing, or just plain larceny, if there is a roguish job that requires some extra muscle, the shadowblade is the person to call. Shadowblades must have a Strength of 13 or greater, and a Dexterity of 12 or higher. As with all thieves, they may not be of Lawful Good alignment.

Role: As many half-elves find little acceptance with the mainstream society, they often feel more at home with thieves’ guilds (who pragmatically appreciate their multi-faceted talents). Shadowblades are well known and respected in the underworld for their fighting skills.

Weapon Proficiencies: A shadowblade may spend His weapon proficiencies any way He wishes. Normally, multi-classed fighters are not allowed to specialize in a weapon, but the shadowblade may do so in one weapon of their choice only.

Nonweapon Proficiencies: Bonus: Information gathering, Intimidation. Recommended: Blind-fighting, Disguise, Jumping, Tumbling, Endurance, Trailing, Alertness.

Skill Progression: Shadowblades usually progress about equally in their thief skills. The exception is Pick Pockets, which they tend to find unimportant.

Equipment: No special equipment is preferred. Like all multi-classed thieves, shadowblades may not use any thief skills but Read Languages, Detect Noise, and Open Locks in armor heavier than leather.

Special Benefits: Shadowblades are well respected in the underworld and therefore receive a +2 to all reaction rolls from thieves who know of the character’s status. Shadowblades also gain a +2 to Hiding, and a +1 bonus to their Move Silently skills.

Special Hindrances: Regardless of actual alignment, shadowblades have a notorious reputation and therefore receive a –2 to reactions from non-thieves and –4 reaction from law enforcement officials if they know of the shadowblade status. Shadowblades also receive a –2 penalty to the Pick Pockets ability.

Wealth Options: 5d4 x 100 sp

Shadowblade Kit

I'd wager likely a netbook? Regardless of the source, I'll allow it as you've posted the kit in its entirety.

Very well could be...

... the only copy I have left of it is an rtf document on my thumbdrive so I couldn't honestly say where I may have picked it up for sure.

Thanks for the review and nod, though... Now just gotta get the dice to cooperate or work the point spread and get to putting that sheet together... I'll see if I can't have that done in the next couple of days.

2 players down already... Hopeful for 2-4 more.

Please remember to review the short list of House Rules as it does impact PC Creation.

Thanks!

Make that three, if you want.

Hey I can't pass up a good sounding 2e campaign, and given the extra bonus that my fellow Mod Eol is in and I have no choice but to ask to join up.

As I am on my way out the door at the moment I'll get back to you with a character concept some time tonight but if your wondering at my lvl of player ability just ask Eol or check out the game The Trilogy War for examples as I am the Dm there.

Talk tonight

Doctor DM?

Ha! In IRC I shorten it to MD|DM

Tann'Talas: No worried on your qualifications. Gaming is either make it or TPK-it! j/k?

I look forward to having players familiar with one another yet unfamiliar to me (and vice versa), as a good change of pace. Means that we each have something up our sleeve the other is unaware of.

Thanks!

With player's like Eol and Tann

there's always something up their sleeve you're unaware of. I'm really looking forward to this one never played 2e before, or a character that made it past level 5

Up my sleeves? What?

Nah... nothing up my sleeves...

Okay... maybe a dagger or two... and some blinding powder... maybe a garrote... but nothing malicious or anything.

Sunshine and lollipops! That's me....
