Much appreciated

Thanks Grugg. Honestly I don't have a clue how long it will be before the judges pick their nominees. I would expect it will be sometime late spring or so next year.

And by the way, for those interested in the campaign setting that would prefer not to drop $50 for a hardcover copy, the digital PDF is going to be up on Paizo's website as soon as they approve it. (It should only be a few days) It will also be available on my website once my web designer gets the button programmed.

I just sent out Pit F(r)iend's this morning so you can ask him in about a week what he thinks about it.

PDF available!

The PDF of the campaign setting is officially available at www.realmsoftwilight.net/marketplace.htm! Word is slowly starting to spread and the first few sales have already gone through!

The excitement is mounting, get your copy (either in print or digitally) and let me know what part of the world I should focus on for my first world book (it will be one of the 5 continents).

It's Here, It's Here!!

For once, I don’t mind getting woke up from a nap. . .I’ve had about twenty minutes of examining Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting, and here’s some very basic, first-impression-style reactions and observations.

First, the book has the physical heft and dimensions of the first 3.5 Dungeon Master’s Guide. The cover is of comparable gloss and thickness to any 3.5 volume by Wizards and visually seems right at home with my other RP books. Binding and endpapers are on par with anything Paizo and Wizards has produced thus far.

Now, to the inside--the text page paper is semi-gloss in sheen, and the print is kind of heavy (you can feel it when drawing a finger down the page). Hope you like black, because that’s the dominant scheme in the tome. Each page is bordered with bold designs incorporating what I assume are the world’s three moons in large triangles (top, edge, and bottom). The symbols within the borders change with each chapter. Make sure you explore this book in a well-lit room to counter the heaviness of the layout’s design.

As to the art and illustrations--about 90% of it is simply terrific. Striking and evocative images show many geographic features, battles of renown, and personages of repute. Of that, about a third seem a little TOO dark and could benefit from some lightening up in a second printing. For examples I submit pages 87, 91, and 118. The other 10% aren’t necessarily bad or of poor quality, but the style is a much more iconic and utilitarian one. Yes, these would be found in the chapter on core classes and prestige classes, most notably the Elemental Fist and the Sai-Heth for examples. Putting my best foot forward, I would say they remind me fondly of first edition D&D artwork.

The cartography--mmmm. Remember what I said about needing a well-lit room? Yeah. I absolutely eat up maps with a knife and fork. It’s what I want to look at first when cracking open any campaign setting, no matter the genre or edition. The map on the Realmsoftwilight.net website got my blood pumping with dreams of new continents ripe for exploring, but they did not transfer well at all to print, especially the one at the very back near the RoTCS character sheet.

Okay, that wraps up this raw unedited first look. Give me a week or so and I can give feedback on the meatier aspects of this volume, maybe even have more cogent thoughts on what the first world book should be. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to find a nice secluded spot outside and a fair distance from the Inn to jump for joy, so as to avoid wrecking anything. Gold I don't spend replacing tables is gold I have for mead.

So Very Happy!

An update

For the second printing (assuming I sell all I have) all of the images you mentioned as well as several others and the map in the back have been lightened up (some of them significantly). So I hope that will help a bit. But it sounds like you're happy with what you see so far, and for that I am glad. I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

So...

Since we have this thread up here, and Pit F(r)iend has given his first look at the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting, does anyone have any questions about the setting or anything?

Digging a tiny bit deeper. . .

My vote for first world book would be Kesuril. Not simply because it is the first continent the book explores, but because of its geopolitics (four kingdoms on the west coast, Elvish strongholds, a capital city under a giant crystal=WIN). In addition its topography, more diverse than some other land masses in the world, lends itself to more varied campaigns.

I would just like to state for the record that that is NOT me on page 14. I know him, though. Throws wonderful parties. Still owes me 1000 platinum over a dog race.

Also want to comment on the wonderful effect the pages have when light bounces off them. It's so eerily reflective. I have never seen its like before.

(Arrgh! PS If you like Oriental Adventures, you'll eat up the continent of Slarinca with a spoon! Might even need a spork, it's chunky!)

Thanks

I appreciate the more in depth review of the book.

I'm actually surprised how many positive comments I've gotten on the pages and they way it was printed. I guess I have the printing company to thank for that. All I requested was the paper type (60# gloss by the way).

If anyone else wants to order the book feel free either digitally or in print. And, as always, I'm alsways willing to answer questions and such about the world and anything else in the book (though some material I will leave for those who actually investigate its pages).

Update

Hey guys and gals. Just an update from me at Silver Crescent Publishing.

The Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting is doing pretty well. I noticed I'm getting a lot more people watching my blog than I had before (though still no one sees fit to comment...). The Realms of Twilight forum had a conniption recently and reverted back to an earlier version from about 2 weeks ago. It's working now, but I lost some of the posts by Pit F(r)iend and one of the guys from the Paizo forum. So that's been a bit frustrating.

In good news, I'm through chapter 8 on the Into the Night novel, and I'm working on a trial adventure that I will be distributing free of charge for people to get a taste of the world. Hopefully I'll have that done in the next month. Tiamat and I are also working on another, rather large adventure that I think will be pretty cool.

Well, that's just an update for anyone who cares to keep track.

Have a good night and good gaming to all!

And another goes to Germany!

That's odd... now two of my books have shipped to Germany...

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to get suggestions from people. I'm trying to branch out my advertising a bit (while spending as little as possible of course). So I was hoping that you guys might be able to give me a few suggestions. Thus far I have the print book up on my own website, along with the PDF. The PDF is also available at drivethrurpg.com and paizo.com.

I've convinced Paizo to put the book in their newsletter or blog which will help a bit I think, and I've been posting on their messegeboards pretty consistently.

I also have a blog of my own that seems to be getting a bit more traffic in the past week or two (you can get to it from my website. It's the Town Crier).

There are also 2 local gaming stores that have 2 copies each. One of them sold one and I'm waiting to hear back from the other.

I am trying to finish a short (4-5 hour) adventure that I will be demoing it at one of the game stores on their RPG night.

What else can/should I be doing?

Well...

Since no one is offering me any suggestions, I suppose I'll have to suffice with a publishing update. I've created a 12 page sample PDF that I've posted on both drivethrurpg.com and paizo.com. I'd provide links... but I can't access those two sites from work...(grr...).

For those of you who don't know I own Silver Crescent Publishing, and released the Realms of Twilight Campaign setting (Pathfinder compatible) at the beginning of August. If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask. And I'm still looking for suggestions as always.

Update

Alright, it's been a while since I gave an update on my publishing company and what we are currently working on (if anyone cares to hear... though if not, I suppose you wouldn't be reading the thread...). *shrugs*

So here is what we have int he works right now:

1) A novel entitled Into the Night. The first part of the Master of Shadows trilogy set primarily in the Illurian Empire. I'm about 25% of the way done with this one.

2) An adventure focusing on the Illurian wastelands, and introducing players and GMs alike to the world. I plan to demo this adventure at my local comic store in October. When completed it'll be up on paizo.com and drivethrurpg.com as well as available in print (planned). I am in need of a few artists for some interior and cover images however. So let me know if you're interested.

3) Tiamat5774 and I are working on another adventure set in the city-states in the north of the continent of Kesuril. Its working title is A Whispered Requiem. Thus far it looks to be an outstanding adventure of twisting plots, deceit and a bit of mystery.

4) Due to suggestions I've gotten from some other publishers, I've decided to put together a 16-page free PDF about the city of Illuria and the surrounding lands, to give everyone a taste of the Realms of Twilight setting. Hopefully this will be available in print as well, but not for free.

5) I have a few other writers working on a periodical that will be reminiscent of dungeon magazine (by wizards of the coast). It may be a while on this one, but when it is done it will have at least 4 adventures included, spanning 3 continents.

As you can see there is a lot in the works for a sole proprietor like myself. If anyone is interested in buying a book let me know (or visit the marketplace ) and I'll get it set up for you. For those who might be interested in contributing, again, let me know what your skill set is and what rate you would charge and we'll talk about it.

Also, my publisher blog is available here for those who are interested in following my progress and success or failure (hopefully more of the prior than the later).

Well, that is about as long-winded as I normally am, so I'll end it here for now.

Have a good evening, morning, or whatever time it may be where you are!

Thanks

Thanks Pit for the bump.

Well, here I am again, toting my wares in the marketplace of the Red Dragon Inn. Picture me as a wandering merchant as it were.

Really, I just wanted to say that the Realms of Twilight Demo adventure that I am running here at the Inn is, in fact, a true written adventure that will be published in the next few months (depending on the arrangments I make with my current cartographer).

So if you're interested in the adventure itself, or the setting check out my website or get in touch with me and purchase a copy.

Also, I'm trying to increase my fan base on facebook, so fo those of you who are one it, please "fan" Silver Crescent Publishing for me.

I used to have a Realms of Twilight page as well, but it was suggested to me that I drop down to only running one.

Thanks, and good gaming to all!

Update

Greetings to all those who follow the Realms of Twilight or Pathfinder worlds!

I just wanted to offer an update on Silver Crescent Publishing and my creations for the moment.

For those of you who may not yet be aware, I founded my own publishing company (Silver Crescent Publishing) just prior to Gen Con this year and published the Realms of Twilight campaign setting hardcover book. Sales have been going well, with the first printing almost sold out. I'm looking to do a second printing and an update PDF for the first printing in the next month or 2 (depending on sales).

The book is available in print form at my website marketplace for $40 (+tax, S&H) and the PDF version is available here for $19.95 + tax).

I also have a blog that I try to post in at least once a week (and likely would more if I got more comments/feedback) here and a facebook page here for those who may be interested in keeping up to date with the latest from Silver Crescent.

My current projects include:

- a 5th level adventure entitled Lycan's Bane (which I am actually running here at the inn as a Demo). All I am waiting for on this one is maps and artwork, which are currently in the works. The tentative release date on this one is March 1st, for both print and PDF versions.

- A Whispered Requiem, a longer 3 part adventure that begins in the city state of Solstice on the continnt of Kesuril. This one is a combine effort of myself and Tiamat5774, and his work on it thus far has been exceptional. I hope to have this one released by GenCon 2011.

- Lastly is Into the Night the first novel in the Master of Shadows trilogy. This book is just under 1/3 of the way done and will hopefully be released in late spring/early summer of 2011. I have considered posting the first few chapters here at the inn to get some feedback. What do you guys think about that?

Anyway, there is my long update and a bunch of links for people to check out. As always let me know if there are any questions/comments about the company, the setting, Pathfinder or anything else I might be able to answer, feel free to ask and I'll do what I can to answer.

Have a good night/day/afternoon/whatever it may be...
