Hey folks!
This is not my usual recruitment, as this game will not be play by post here at the Inn (though I do intend to get back to doing those). Instead, this is for a virtual tabletop game - likely using Discord or Zoom. I'm looking to start this game in January, with us playing twice a month; a typical game session will run three to four hours.
This is for an old school D&D game. I will be using my modified/houseruled 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons rules (aka AD&D). Characters will start at either 2nd or 3rd level (I have yet to decide). I.e. you will be an adventurer with some real experience under your belt. If you have zero experience with 2E in particular, or with D&D in general, have no fear. If you can roleplay and cooperate with others, you are welcome. I will gladly help you make your character, and I tend to manage almost all of the rule stuff myself, anyway. I have all of the rulebooks in digital form, and am happy to share.
All characters for this game MUST be Khordaldrum (dwarves), though I might consider a cidal (halfling).
The concept:
Over a thousand years ago, there were two races of Dwarves in Antaron. The Khordaldrum hailed from the Khordal Mountains of central Antaron. Their cousins, The Chakrandrum, slightly taller and fairer of skin and hair than their kin, were from the Chakran Mountains of Eastern Antaron, with the mountain ranges divided by the great Sylvarian Forest, home of the Sylvari (elves).
The two nations shared the deepest of connections, for they were in fact all related, and dwarves view family and blood as the most sacred of bonds. But it was a time of war and strife, and the Chakrandrum fought two significant wars - the First and Second Ogre Wars.
The Chakrandrum actually fought not only ogres, but their allies - both goblins and the mysterious subterranean ungoulid. While they defeated the monstrous alliance - after heavy losses - in the First Orge War, three centuries later, the Chakrandrum were completely exterminated in the Second Ogre War. The entire civilization was wiped out, lost to history.
Our adventure begins in the present day. Deep in the vaults of Kharolis, the underground capital of the Khordaldrum, lies a rune-covered sphere carved of pure obsidian.
For the first time in many lifetimes, one of the runes on that sphere has begun to glow.
This artifact is so ancient that it's purpose was nearly forgotten, but one of the oldest living runemasters was able to identify it. The sphere is one of a pair, the other of which is said to have resided in Charadun, the lost capitol of the Chakrandrum. The lore states that these spheres were used in ancient times to allow the two kingdoms to communicate with one another, although the full knowledge of *how* to use these spheres has been lost to time. The lore is very clear that ONLY a dwarf can cause these runes to ignite.
How is this possible that it glows today?
It is once again a time of unrest. Enemies threaten Kharolis, so the Khordaldrum dare not send a significant military force to the Chakran Mountains to investigate. Furthermore, any such force would have to march through the Sylvarian borders, and while the two nations suffer an uneasy truce, any such detachment would surely be viewed as an act of war. Instead, it is decided that a group of skilled individuals would do better to serve on an expedition such as this, where they can move fast and react nimbly.
You will be playing members of this adventuring party, charged with the heavy task of traveling more than a thousand miles, negotiating passage through the Sylvarian Empire, to venture into territory known to be infested with hostile monsters - ogres, goblins, ungoulid, and who knows what else? You are to find the lost city of Charadun, uncover a way inside, and learn what you can of the fate of not only the city, but of your kin, the Chakrandrum. Who or what is causing the sending sphere to light? Is it possible that some of your distant kin have survived, hidden away, for more than a millenia? What became of the legendary riches of the lost kingdom?
My desire is for six players, all khordaldum (perhaps one cidal), ideally using some of the khord-specific classes. I'd love to see a Spiderguard, a Runemaster, a Geomancer in this party
Characters must be good or neutral. I will only consider an evil character from a well established roleplayer who can convince me that the character will be a good fit for a party like this, who will not derail things just to derail things. This is a the story of heroes, not villains.
For stats, roll 4d6, drop the low roll, arrange to taste. I expect every character to have two exceptional ability scores (15+). I *might* accept a third such score, DM's option. I reserve the right to nerf or buff stats as I see fit to preserve party balance. I will roll your hit points.
My rules for magic are MUCH more generous than RAW. I will brief any spell casting characters on these.
Gameplay will begin after the first of the year. Characters will NOT be awarded on a first come, first served basis. I need to see good character concepts. You don't have to write a novella, but I need to know that you have put some thought into your character, and I want charcters that are interesting, that are good fits.
To be considered, reply here. You can PM me here on the Inn, or you can reach out to me on Facebook (Olan Suddeth).
