Mixed WoD game

--||WARNING||--
This game contains brutal violence, censored foul words, hinted nudity, and possibly, just possibly, political reference. When things get tough in this game, they really get tough. When things look bad in this game, they look really bad. When things turn violent in this game, I will try my very best to make it as brutal, gruesome and gritty as I am mentally possible. Be advised that if none of these things appeal to you, this is the time to back away from the game. Do not come to me in two weeks and complain about the descriptions in this game. Do not say I did not warn you!

Yep, this is the recruiting thread for a second attempt at starting a WoD game. Why second attempt? Because the first attempt was a bust, obviously. This time, it has some changes. This time, you don't need to play a lowlife human but you can play anything you want. The list of the corebooks follows later on. Just note that if you do decide to play a human you get a bonus of 25 XP which you can use at character creation. The rest of you should note that this is only because humans are otherwise too weak to match the characters that are not human (or not completely).
Those of you who don't have the books, there are few possibilities:
a)You don't join but find something else that you're interested in (a big boohoo for me )
b)I create the character for you with detailed description of his abilities and powers.
c)I find a way to share with you my pdf files of the books (ideas would be cool)
or d)You find the books yourself, legally of course (like I would be scrying or anything )

Here are the core books (and a small description):
World of Darkness (the corest of the core, the core system is in this one)
Vampire: the Requiem (details vampires and their powers)
Werewolf: the Forsaken (details werewolves and their powers)
Mage: the Awakening (details sorcerers or the like and their powers)
Promethean: the Created (details Frankenstein-like characters and their powers)
Changeling: the Lost (details humans warped into faery-like form and what they are capable of)
I usually allow any book you could think of but there are few of them I specifically do not allow. Belial's Brood, Seven, and the Pure are books that you are not allowed to use. I can't remember any other book at the moment but please ask me if you want to use a specific material. If you are going to use something from any other book than the core books I would like a reference to which book and preferably a pagenumber.

About XP, I won't be handing out any after the game starts. Instead I'll be using my own advancement system. There I hand out bonus points which you can store. At any time you can ask to roll for advancement in any Attribute, Skill, Willpower, Morality (or the equalivant), or supernatural power source. If I allow you to make the roll you can roll one die plus another die for every bonus point you have. To succeed in advancing you need as many successes as the new rating, except for Attributes which requires as many successes as the new rating +1 and the supernatural power source which requires as many successes as the new rating +3. A new power (vampire's discipline, werewolve's gift or mage's sphere) requires as many successes as the new rating +2. You can buy a new Skill Speciality with 3 bonus points. I am free to not allow the advancement roll if I see so fit (generally if I think you haven't had any experience in the Attribute, Skill or whatever).

At character creations you are allowed to lower your Morality rating (or the equalivant) to get a bonus of 3 points of Merits. However, this is a one way trade. You can't spend Merit points to start with a higher Morality. You can however pay 4 points worth of Merits to get additional point of supernatural power source. The points you'd get for lowering your Morality can not be spent on this however, so you can start with SPS at max 2. Keep in mind that lowering your Morality means that you have done something morally wrong to get what you wanted. Likewise, spending points of Merits to buy SPS means that you have focused on raw power rather than physical/social/mental feats or material ownership.

Enough of Houserules. You should note that you're characters don't need any background information as we start or that their background story can be secret (or forgotten completely). If you want you can surprise us or develop the background story as we go along.

I think this is all you need to know before we start. I don't have a plot yet but I will before my next post.

...

Again, Skari? I would make another character, if you'd accept one...

Well...

I haven't heard from any of the players from my last attempt for more than a week and so I declared that the game Roadtrip would eventually not reach beyond the recruiting bit. So because of that, and because I just bought Changeling the Lost , I decided to start over. Perhaps there would be more interest if the players could play supernaturals.

I still don't have a plot ready but I am working on it. The thing is that it must effect vampires, werewolves, mages, prometheans and changelings enough for them to join hands if needed.
Because this is going to be on a somewhat grander scale than my last attempt, I'm thinking about stretching the maximum players up to 7 or 8, but no more.

I have the background somewhat ready. The game takes place in the large town of Longchester, England. Don't bother looking, you won't find it. It is a fictional city in Northern Britain which is no better than any other city in the world. If anything, it is worse. I'll have a better description later.

A bit more details

So here are some more details about the game. I've made a little plot and for it to work for all parties I'll be using the Dream-Drinking rules for vampires presented in Mythologies from page 73 up to page 77.

What Dreams Become "Something is stirring down in Longchester, something not nice. Strange things are happening. The nicest people you could meet there turn out to be cold-blooded killers. People speak of moving shadows and nightmarish shapes in the dark. Animals become uncontrollable or even hostile. This evil is not something you can see or touch... yet.

"It all started when young Geoffrey Weatherby killed his father with a kitchen knife one morning. While being interrogated by the police he said he didn't even remember getting up that morning, that suddenly he was inside the police car covered in his old man's blood. Investigative minds will notice that this is not the last time something like this has happened. Another three murders have occurred since then where the murderer doesn't remember the event, not to mention all the unsolved murders.

"So what is happening in Longchester that makes good people turn against loved ones and kill without any reason? I do not know the answer for certain but I have my theories. It is possible that these events have nothing in common but I believe the opposite. Right now I'm leaving to meet up with a contact who says that he has some information about this. This is my first real lead and I am not going to let it slip. But in case I do not make it back I hope that whoever finds my notes will continue the investigation. Surely the police will not."
-Michelle Gardner's diary, last page.

What can you expect from this game? A mixture of gruesome action, bone-shaking horror and humorous puns? Hopefully. Magical items of fantastic properties? Possibly. Never-before-seen monsters and locations? Heck yes!

Like I said in an earlier post: This is a WoD game set for 3-8 players. No books are off-limits except Belial's Brood, the Pure, and VII. I'm using my very own advancement system as detailed in the first post. I'm calling it "my very own" because I have never seen it before and never tried it out before either. Hope it works out like a charm.
I will detail more houserules (if any) in the Q/A thread if the game ever gets to that stage.

Other than that, I hope I caught your attention.

Hm

I have a concept in mind, but I don't have any of the books beyond the initial WoD manual. I'm currently downloading one I'd like to dip into, so if I can get ahold of it...I'll have a character submitted sometime soon.

Great!

That's great Tek

That makes one character... total. I haven't heard about anyone else who is interested enough to actually play so there is room for at least 7 more players if anyone is interested.

Sorry

Sorry You didn't hear from me. I had some computer problems and life picked up a little. But if you'll let me join this game I promise I've fixed most things. And with the option of prevailing upon you to send me pdf files (just attach them to an e-mail) I could make a pretty initriguing vampire.

Sure thing Jenth. Would you like me to make you a character or can you handle it yourself?

More on Houserules

Aside from the houserules which I mentioned earlier and then detailed better in this article, I have few other houserules. I will copy this into the Q/A thread so it will by more easily accessed once we start. We have three players now, by the way, so once the characters are ready we can start.

First off, there is no Initiative. You act in the order that you post. If you don't post before I update, you are assumed the most basic action if in combat and you act after any NPC (outside combat you will be picking your noses). That being said, you don't have to calculate initiative and any Merits concerning initiative are useless.

Good description award bonus points. Bad description award nothing. One-liners are very annoying I think. There are few things worse than writing 10-20 lines of in depth description only to have it responded with a "I walk to [Player's name]'s character and smack him in the face". It's even worse if it has bad spelling. Avoid this if possible, but if you can't then I won't make your characters suffer for it. Good description and spelling do award you with bonus points though, so keep that in mind.

I might have mentioned this but I will stress it: If you are using material from any other book than the core books (WoD, VtR, WtF, MtA, PtC, CtL) I want to know what you use from what book. That means book reference and page! I want to be able to look it up if what it does becomes questioned.

If you have a specialty in a certain Skill you can apply that specialty to another Skill if the circumstances allow it. Two specialties never stack though so if another specialty could apply you only get either and not both. My favorite example is if you are using the Investigation Skill to investigate a crime scene and you have a Wolf specialty in your Survival Skill you could apply that specialty to see that the victim had his throat bitten out by a wolf.

That's it. I don't think I will be using any more Houserules. If I will, I'll edit this post before we start and then copy it to the Q/A thread.

Okay then...

Skari-dono, I've just PMed you my character 's statline for approval. I'll send you his background and physical description just as soon as I've finished writing them, which should be some point tomorrow.

One point regarding anchors: unless I've misread the rules (again!) ghosts are somewhat limited in that they cannot move or manifest more than a few metres from their anchors which could constrict my ability to follow the storyline somewhat. Since it's probably unreasonable for me to just make a district of Longchester one of his anchors I've made one of them potentially portable instead, so that he can still follow it from place to place.

Hey

I have also noticed this restriction both to movement and manifestation from anchors. I like the anchors you chose though, the hospital and graveyard should allow you to move a little bit more freely.

I know this is very limiting for your character and I would like to give you more freedom but I don't really know how it should be done.

Vorrioch: Read the PM and replied. Now we just need to wait for the other characters to be ready and then we can start. I'm still having trouble getting the books to JenthLiadon so that might take some time.

For the rest of you who have just been tuning in: We still have room for 5 more players so if you're interested just say so and start making a character

Got the message

I got the e-mail but I'm having problems downloading the torrent from piratesbay. Still trying though, but in case it doesn't work my character concept is a Vampire that enjoys researching unexplainable events so that he may record them in a novel he's writing about "unsolved cases" so naturally he would be a writer and would know how to defend himself in case he accidently solves one of the cases. It's important to note that he doesn't actually want to solve the case just find out why it's unsolved and theorize (by theorize I mean blow out of porportion) ideas as to what the solution would be. I imagine him as a relatively young vampire not any older than a few centuries. He is trained in the use of longswords and pistols. This wouldn't be his first unsolved case but probably his tenth, meaning that he knows quite a bit about supernatural elements and a little about magic. That's what I was going for.
