Subject: Where the orcs are...

"Orcs" Alistae hisses while whipping her sword free of its sheath. Thinking better of her position and possibilities she quickly switches weapons to her ranged crossbow.

“Allow me to scout ahead and determine the nature of danger which lies in wait.” Dusk replies as he literally vanishes into the rock wall. As he moves off in the direction Alistae points Confundus whispers words of magic permitting Alistae, Dusk, and himself to hear each other quite easily.

In that moment the portal whirled to life spitting yet another adventurer into the parties midst. A mist elf has just arrived announcing herself as Velkyn.

As Alistae and Confundus ask Dusk what he sees he makes his way through the doorway onto the platform that on the other side looked quite safe despite the orc sound; orc sounds he now hears though he can make nothing out. The room he has just entered is framed in the perpetual darkness of the underdark as there is no torch but one on the other side of the room illuminating the faces of two brutish orcs. Though the orcs are not what currently has Dusk's attention; he gazes upon a rickety old bridge that expands over a large, dark and formidable abyss. Though darkness is as brighter as any light to Dusk's specially acclimated eyes he can see no bottom to this abyss. Looking around the his side of the room Dusk notes that it is empty almost as if it wasn't meant to be a part of the room. Gave him the feeling the bridge was a last defense mechanism trapping any invaders on this side for little more than target practice. However on the side of the orcs he sees that they sit at a table with mugs in their hands and bows close by. They are the average looking orcs with broken down armor and swords sheathed to their side. They don't even seem to realize their being watched.

Topic: Underdark
Subject: through the portal and into the underdark

Fires blaze in the braziers that line the wall and hang from the open doorway. The door way is small possibly five foot maybe five foot five inches. The light plays on the shadows stretching them and diminishing them as the fire dances back and forth in the mild breeze generated by the heat of ten golden braziers. The tunnel you’re standing in is well carved almost to a smoothness and wide as tunnels go allowing three people to stand abreast of each other. Not that any of you are standing as the ride through the portal was not a pleasant one and it makes more sense to sit bringing you closer to the ground so gravity might pull your stomach back to where it belongs. The ceiling rises slightly higher than the door allowing the seven foot half-ogre to slouch as he moves instead of crouching. As you peer past the door you note that the next room seems empty, it’s almost inviting. Looking in the other direction the tunnel seems to become less well tended and darker until it disappears into the horizon. Listening to the darkness Aelistae can hear the unmistakable sound of orc voices grating against her ears, everyone else hears the groans of their companions and their breathing as it reverberates through the stone sounding louder than it actually is. Upon examination of your now heavy and well endowed packs you will find thirty separate packs full of dried fruit and nuts, those who are observant and enjoy their meat, such as the half-ogre, notice quite to their disappointment that there is no meat amongst the rations. Also tied securely to the side of your packs are five full water skins capable of holding a gallon of water each. Tied to the water skins is a note that reads:

As promised a months rations. Though they do not look it your water skins can hold a gallon of water each. Remember to keep your wits about you and that very little in the Underdark is as it appears.

Signed
Elminster.

Welcome to Shadowdale and its festival for adventurers and heroes. Being over looked by a mountain in the shape of a skull Shadowdale has no high walls or city gates. In fact if it wasn’t for the special compass that Elminster himself personally sent you, you might have missed the town entirely. But this is a festival for adventurers and heroes and adventurers and heroes should be present, so Elminster sent a guide. As you look around many of the legendary heroes wander this festival. Elminster himself is playing as the host and of course Shadowdale’s leader Storm Silverhand is greeting adventurers as they pop out of the forest. She is also leading a group of talented bards in playing some very lively music and with drinks there is dancing. As night befalls the city Elminster directs the patrons’ attention toward the sky as fireworks explode relighting the night sky. Also providing light are some curious fireflies flitting about, but any attempts to catch the fireflies find the attempt empty handed and the fly just out of reach. As the fireworks draw to an end sheets are spread about the dance square. As their laid out the sheets rise from their location and take the form of tables. Other residents of Shadowdale sent chairs before the table-like sheets and yet others lay out delectable meals. As soon as everyone is seated Elminster rises with glass in hand.

“A toast to the adventurers who strive to keep our Faerun safe. A toast and a challenge! As a part of the festivities we have arranged for a quest to be taken by any brave enough to try. The quest is quite simply to map the Underdark. I have laid out a series of Portals that will take each of you to a different part of the Upperdark. Whichsoever group makes it back here alive with a comprehensive map of the entire Underdark will be named amongst the greatest of Heroes and will receive a Dragon’s hoard worth of treasures setting them up quite possibly for the rest of their life. So if you would like to take part in this quest step through this portal. Worry not about grouping as your group will be selected from those that enter the portal and any that are left over will be safely returned here.” Elminster points and taking shape before all is a shimmering portal. “Be not afraid for supplies upon entering this portal you will find that your packs have been filled with supplies to last a month, after that it is apart of the adventure to supply yourselves right?”

The challenge delivered Elminster sits back and begins to consume his portion of dinner. As dinner draws to a near groups of adventurers enter the portal while others deliberately look away.

I was wondering who was your first character and what kind of character was he?

My first character was a 2nd edition elf named Bluetree. He was a pompous prick, his father was a wealthy well to do merchant and he thought you could buy anything with money. He also thought he was the gods gift to women.

"That is a fine looking blade you have there,” Hearst said kinda hesitantly like he was trying to start a conversation. “I don’t remember seeing it at the armory. Where did you get it?”

"It wasn't at the armory. I bought this blade on a cold winter night." Jed said gazing out the window. "I was hunting a werewolf, and I was out of silver bullets. Well the townsfolk didn't have any silver so thinking of another way to bring down my prey it occured to that pretty much anything chopped up doesn't rise again so I bought this blade and engraved it with my family crest in hopes of passing it down. That was before i was Turned. Whoa wait who's that?"

The who Jed was reffering to was an abnormal looking man standing at the corner of an alley. A single lightning revealed his bald head, pale and crusty skin, and his slightly pointy ears. His eyes were nearly glowing in the dark light and his hands were ‘armed’ with sharp claws. He was dressed in black robes that did not cover his head. His grin revealed two sharp fangs.

"Looks like our prey wants a meeting eh?" Jed pointed his gun and attempted to get a shot in as the car pulled over.

XO's Office
Stardate 23740831 1905 hours

Commander Sitok walked into his office. It was sparce almost spartan, but that would change though not much as Sitok didn't carry a lot of personal items.

"Chef Salad." Sitok orders dinner from his replicator. Normally he would prefer to eat in the Lounge and perhaps get to know his fellow crewmates, it was only logical to know the people that you may one day depend on, but that was not to be. Not with the work that was needed to be done. Sitok looked at the PADD that Captain MacTavish had handed him.

“Operation: Persephone,” headed up the file. Beneath that were the standard verbose classification, dissemination, and restriction clauses and, following a nearly tiresome scroll through those, the document, at last, began outlining the particulars of Cerberus’ inaugural assignment:

…receive RSN liaison and technicians at SB-10… facilitate and assist in installing Gen V cloaking device aboard USS Cerberus: NCC-83964…

…deploy for Federation Outpost: Deep Space Nine… perform testing an final calibration of installed cloaking device en route… ensure security and integrity of second Gen V cloak…

…rendezvous with USS Charon: NCC-79358… oversee transfer and installation of GenV cloak aboard the Charon…

…Coordinate with DS:9 Tactical Operations (Captain Benjamin Sisko; CO) for temporary deactivation of minefield… access to Bajoran Wormhole…

…infiltrate Dominion space…locate ‘Detention Facility’ (SF designation: UO/PF 191-38-7-4.19202)…

"Hmm so it isn't going to be a joy ride. Not that I expected it to be since this is a warship and we are at war but an infiltration mission with two ships. Starfleet must be getting fairly desperate." Sitok spoke his thoughts out loud when he was sure no one was listening. "And I thought that Starfleet was pleased with my performance, oh well. Perhaps I should have a look at the Romulan Contigency."

Sitok opened the computer panel and waited for it to load. He entered his codes and tapped into the file on the Romulans. It would e an exaggeration to say that it was not extensive. In fact the only service jacket Starfleet seemed to have was for Lt. Pardek, and it only showed the ships she served with.

"Well we're already keeping an eye on them, I just hope they strike before we're in Dominion space." Sitok closed the Romulan files and opened the files for the crew. "It would be best to get to know the Department heads first, then I will look at others as there is time and they show up in reports."

"The Engineer officer might be trouble perhaps I should alert the chief of Security about him. And it appears the Tac Officer has a temper but ten again Kzinti do if one does not think before communicating, he does appear to be a good officer though." Sitok closed the personell files.

"Computer please alert each officer at 0900 that they are to report at 1000 hours to the conference room. And send a private message to Lt. Valberg's office that I suggest he keep an eye on Lt. Tier as he has a record for trouble."

=/\\=Messages sent=/\\=

"Thank you" Sitok rose and procceeded to his room.

"The vampire in question hasn’t yet revealed himself,” Herst said, “so we can’t actually attack him without giving him a warning first.” Herst stood over his desk and wrote something down on two pieces of paper, then handed those two pieces of paper to both Syanide and Jed. “If things will go out of hands, this is your right to take out the bastard. We should hurry; we only have few hours before sunrise.” That being said, Herst grabbed a single gun and a shotgun along with a sword. Then they walked outside and got into the car.

"So lets go hunting!" Jed says as he nudges his Mekhet campanion. Jed grabs the glock sitting in the chest. He runs out to the car on Herst's heels. "Shotgun!" Jed announces as he climbs into the passenger seat and turns on the radio. As Herst started the car and headed out Jed checked the sharpness of his sword and checked the ammo in the glock. He didn't like firearms they were awfully cheap in a fight but in todays time they were neccessary as everyone had them. Jed much preffered his sword, mostly because there was little as satisfying as writing good poetry and feeling your sword rip through stuff. And this sword was a beauty, renassaince style it had a black onyx hilt with skulls on each end of the handguard. The blade while a little nicked was bright from polish and had his family crest etched into it. Not that he had inherited it just that he thought it looked cool when he custom ordered it. Jed looked out the window bringing his attention back to the hunting.
