Subject: To complete a Task

"Odd," said the elf as he examined the blade that the pair had worked diligently to remove from its sheath. The rust had nearly made the weapon and sheath one, but they had managed to pry it apart. Probably because when Dusk examined the blade, he still found it balanced and sharp. Mostly the hilt and sheath had been binding, rather than the blade. "This is definitely old and has seen better days, but the blade is still good. I shall keep this. It may have some use later."

"Let us go about our task. It should not take us long to build a cairn with the stone here," he said to the tiger cub, resuming the task of lifting stones dug out by the girl. As soon as most of the stone were ready, Dusk left the cub and walked back over to the hunter's body, lifting it and carrying it back to the pile of stone. Dusk laid the human with his blade, bow and quiver, removing the cloak from his back. Placing the cloak aside, and with a small utterance for the dead, Dusk put the locket back in the man's hand, closing the fingers around it. He would have no use for pictures of the dead.

"Take the cloak. You will need to wear something eventually," he said finally. The hunter was entombed and Dusk's mind at ease and it was time to resume his trek.

"It is time for me to go now," he said, looking around the horizon and noting the position of the sun. "There are only a few hours 'til dark and I would like to make progress yet."

Bowing slightly, Dusk turns and begins to walk.

((Continuing in whichever direction he was before this all started. He put the sword, resheathed, into his backpack.))

With the urgency of a dying whale, Raen rolled her eyes as soon as her back was turned to the priest and made her way out of the church. The others discussed what they needed to do, and there wasn't much that could have been declared a spell for utter doom of the world there, so Raen only nodded her approval.

"Meet at the North [ooc: or whichever gates we decided on] gates in 4 hours," Raen said as the others began to disperse, mostly reminding herself. "Alright, time to go kill 4 hours."

((Raen needs nothing, so she'll go... hang out for 4 hours)).

Subject: Building Homes for the Dead

The child nodded in her understanding, bouncing off with renewed vigor now that her wounds had disappeared. She stopped and looked back at the elf until Dusk noticed her staring. This time, he nodded in his understanding and followed the tiger cub to a clearing full of stubble. She began pawing at the ground, revealing both the reason for the lack of grasses and a solution to their current problem.

The remains of a home, simply the foundation stones, were all that Dusk could see. The fine, dark earth reminiscent of ash, but Dusk found it simply to be dirt. Perhaps this home had once burned to the ground, its location long forgotten in the absence of inhabitants around it.

As the young tiger dug the thin layer of earth and short grass off of the stones, Dusk used a dagger to pry them up from their resting place and piled them up off to the side. However, as the forepaws dug through the first layer, in one spot, there was no base, only dirt. The tiger cub continued to dig and Dusk soon noticed that she hadn't shifted position and came over to see what she was doing. Soon, the sound of claws on wood, hollow wood, sounded.

Dusk knelt opposite of her and began to help her remove dirt from around the edges so as to remove whatever it was.

At the rustle in the grass, Dusk turned around to help remove the arrows that pierced the child. Breaking the one in her arm near the wound with a swift twist, Dusk pulled it out of the arm as best as possible. The other two would prove more difficult to remove without doing more damage to her flesh.

"Here," he said, touching the three pale gemstones that sat embedded in the otherwise simple belt that he wore. The elf could feel a healing warmth fill him each time he touched a gem, only to lightly touch each wound and let the magic leave him and do its work on the child.

"There. That should ease the pain and speed the healing a fair amount," he said as he stood. Dusk looked at the body that still lay in the dirt, silent and foreboding. Dusk looked back at the diary in his hand, going over the last few pages once again.

"In his quest for vengeance, hatred blinded this man," said the elf, half to himself and half an explanation to the child, now an orphan. "Werecreatures destroyed him and he felt it only fitting to destroy them in turn. Despite his blind hatred, he should not have to rot as a slain beast left to waste. Either find sufficient stone to create a cairn or we shall find enough fuel to burn the corpse and bury the weapons."

Stowing the journal in the sac inside his backpack, Dusk placed the locket back around the neck of the human, arranging the corpse as best he could also laying the weapons beside it. The ring he took and dropped into one of the pouches at his belt. It may have some use.

((If no stone or wood is available or there is a lot of wind, Dusk will decide to forsake the body after some simple, general rites and an apology before resuming his journey, whichever way that was lol)).

"Decency's novelties were lost on me long ago, child," Dusk murmured, almost to himself. Without turning, he thumbed open the book, looking at the first page and the covers, trying to see if there was anything that would help him understand the human or the girl. "I was going to use his cloak to wrap him in, but you may use it if you need."

He also looked over the locket as to any answers, or questions, it may provide.

"The arrows need to come out. Now rather than later," he added quickly. "I can aid you with that task."

"Cover my eyes? If you wish... I have seen worse than a werebeing's transformation," said Dusk, noticing the cub's paw over its eyes. The elf turned his back to the tiger, placing the man's weapons and quiver to the side and taking up the locket and book, inspecting both to the best of his ability while awaiting further signal from the child.

((There, easier I suppose, heh.))

Subject: The Price is Never Just the Cost

"For what it is worth, I am sorry," Dusk said quietly as the human's body crumpled to the ground. The elf looked solemnly at the body for some time, not even acknowledging the tiger cub that limped back towards the pair, three arrows sticking into its flesh.

The taking of a life never pleased Dusk. He did it only when he deemed it necessary. Whether it was to save another life from an evil act or on contract, he only killed when he accepted it. There had to have been something that drove this man to torture and kill these creatures. Perhaps he had been hurt by similar creatures. He had not defended himself or his actions before except by pressing his attack. The child had seemed innocent. Was it?

The questions floated amongst other thoughts in his mind. His body requested some rest and cleaning. The blood on his shirt felt dirty and the cuts in his clothing would need repair. His soul felt some strain as well. It was not easy to force oneself from the material existence, let alone do it more than once.

The elf moved forward, stepping around the muddy earth and pulling the corpse beyond the mess. He had heard the snap of a chain and checked the man's hands and neck along with the rest of his body for his possessions. He would need to be laid to rest somehow and the best way to complete such a task here was a cairn.

"Why?" he said without looking up. "Why did this man wish you dead..."

((Sorting the possessions on the ground beside the corpse. Asking it of the tiger cub, seeing if it can answer.))

Dusk said nothing and did not even watch the three silver-tipped arrows as they flew past his shoulder. There was nothing he could do to prevent the attacks and so no purpose in expending any energy trying to change the outcome.

His concentration dipped again into his soul, tapping into the essence that connects all beings and objects, once again forcing his body into an ethereal state.

((Next only if I can make a FRA)) This time he did not bother to force his blade back through thin barrier between the gray plains and the material, rather letting his whole body shift back once he had moved through the hunter, slicing three times at his back, hoping to bring the human down before he could finish off the child.

((If only a single SS)

Forcing his blade through the thin barrier between the gray plains and the material, Dusk dug the metal into the human, hoping that a hit against his opponent in a vital area would bring him down, preventing another attack against the child.

((Swift to Ethereal, 5ft step, Full Round attack, first being a Sudden strike. I think that works. If it doesn't work to being a FRA, just do a single Ghost Strike

Dusk says nothing, barely wincing as the metal cuts into his torso and arm. He had endured pain at the hands of his enemies and worse at the hands of his friends. Even as the silver blade's tip left the lines in his flesh, the elf could feel his muscles tightening, sealing the lifeblood within the wound. They would sting, still, but the damage would not hamper him (+10 HP via Rags of Restraint).

At the hunter's snarl, Dusk re-engaged the human.

"If you must insist on this path," replied Dusk. "Then I must stand in your way. You have refused the final offering. Your fate is now your own."

The elf bent down before the child, bending at the knees and waist to gain stability. There would be no quarter now...

"You should back away, child," he said to the cub.

((Full attack with both Ninjato, Dusk will not circle his opponent, preferring to either drive him back and prevent him from attacking the tiger cub.))

So I lobotomized my computer last weekend. Its taken me up until now to get it running (almost there, still have to find my office disk). In light of that, I lost many books that I use for quick reference and my hard copies aren't around. I also lost all of my character sheets, so I would be grateful for a PM from Grugg and Reralae that includes my current sheet for Raen and Dusk.

I should be back to normal operation this week.

Thanks!

"No, I cannot permit you to slay a child. You may not judge!" said the elf. "Leave now. You have had your final warning. Your fate is in your hands."

Dusk rolled both blades over the back of his hands, letting the blood fall from the metal rather than trickle across the hilt and grips. His eyes watch his opponent carefully, waiting for him to make his choice.

((Dusk will wait for the hunter to move. If he attacks, or moves to attack, Dusk will make a standard attack with both weapons.

Shouldn't be a miss factor anymore. That would be if I were invisible. Unless he can see me and has a Ghost Touch spell, ability or weapon, he can't hit ethereal creatures. Which is what I become now. Like a ghost. Oooooooh

Dusk watched the two wild swings of his opponent flow right through where he stood. He felt nothing, of course, with his Ki pushing his physical form beyond the material realm and into the plane of ghosts. For a moment the landscape shifted into a misty version of itself, swirls of color mixed among the grayed out shadows of the physical realm.

The elf released the pressure of his spirit on his body and felt a slight breeze touch his cheek, the first feeling of being back to physical reality.

"Again you mistakenly claim one's race. Let me assure you, demons are much crueler than I," replied the elf.

In his one hand he held the dripping Adamantine blade. In his other now lay a silvery blade of his own, the steel an unearthly sheen that stood out against the dark metal opposite of it.

"Quel fara," said Dusk, the elven phrase for "Good Hunting" doubled as the command phrase for his blade. The steel immediately became bathed in white light, emanating a warm glow of positive energy. Dusk only smiled.

"Then, lye salkuva."

{Then, We shall dance.}

The elf moved forward, attacking the hunter in a flurry of slices while stepping to the side to try and get between the human and cub.

((Full Attack (Ninjatos): +11/+11/+6; (1d6+2)/(1d6+1)/(1d6+2)

5ft step.

P.S. Figured out the HP problem. I must've calculated it before I applied the -2 CON for being an elf. I would've rolled 9d6 + 6 + 20, and got an above average roll.))

Subject: Just one question

I'm not 100% sure about one thing.

When an ability that's triggered lasts 1 round, does that ability end at the beginning of MY next turn or the beginning of the next ROUND?

I only ask because I used a Ghost Strike ability to attack while being ethereal. Though I guess you could rule that I used my next action to become tangible again and stop him from moving forward, thus allowing him actions against me in his next turn.

Not too worried about it now, but from my PoV, the whole point of the Ghost Strike Ability would be to attack and move away or at least still be ethereal during at least one round and negating at least one set of attacks.

Right. I sent you copies of the text for the Ninja class. They have all the information on abilities and what-not.

To a human who can't see ethereal beings, Dusk would disappear completely. He can, of course, see the hunter through the mists of the ethereal plane and steps forward, standing over the cub as the hunter moves forward. Drawing his own blade, all the elf has to do is stab forward.

((Sudden strike w/ Adamantine Ninjato, +13, 1d6+1+5d6, 19-20/x2, Slashing, Ignore Hardness < Adamantine))
