Also, concerning the spread, there's some schools of thought that the area of the bite is in direct relation to how long before the change occurs. Some pose it such that an area closer to hear and/or brain would cause a victim to turn faster tha someone bitten, say, on the foot.

However, other chage-theories have a sort of formulaic reaction time: (constitution + Agility) - (bite location + time) = zombie. So an athlete, say Appolo Ohno, or Tony Hawk, bitten on the neck recently will turn slower than Steven Segall or Val Kilmer bitten on the neck at the same time (porkchops, both of them)

And man it would be so awesome to headshot zombie-Segal. *mutter* I hate that guy.

As a huge zombie fan, I should say that there are several infection theories, depending on your catalyst. If it's the result of a viral outbreak, then like Pit F(r)iend mentioned, tendency among storytellers is that it's a blood-borne pathogen, and therefore contact by infected blood with open wounds, or other areas (such as in your eyes, mouth, or nose, can get you infected, in addition to the bites. However, other mythos' have a mystical/supernatural catalyst, which results in the dead rising and on the hunt for brains, meaning anyone dead is an eventual zombie, and therefore it's not so much being eaten by them that causes it, but the stopping of life.

In so far as The Walking Dead is concerned, I do like the fact there are Romero influences without it being way too George, and still believable enough on some level (aside from the CDC blast, as Eol mentioned) to be engaging. And I enjoy that it's survivor-centric, rather than focused entirely on the zeds.

It's been said that Dr. Jenner's whispered words to Rick will feature heavily in season two, and while most of the webizens are convinced it was about Lori being pregnant, I am pretty sure the series isn't going to be that 90210 about it, and that it was really about the surviving sister being infected, or at least having the viral code in her blood.

Supposedly, we are also going to see more of Merle, and a damaged, grieving Daryl, who was seriously one of my favorite survivors. I know more, but I own't share since they are technically spoilers.

Unfortunately, due to a dramastic slashing of work hours and financial mucking, there's a possibility my internet access for the next two weeks may be reduced to an hour a week at the local library. Which means I would still be able to post, but not a lot.

I'm active working on this right now, and trying to save the internet at the very least. So bear with me, I am not flaking out or vanishing from the face of the earth again. I just got myself into some trouble and need time to get myself out.

Subject: Flashback: Lyri

Foster's Grove, Hexworth, Date unknown, 1991

"Lyriandel Evermoon! You come down here this instant!"

Micarica stood on the porch, an apron over her hands as she rubbed them free of flour. Though stern in voice, there was no anger in her sharp grey eyes, only a distant sadness and endless frustration. The apron fell away, and she reached up to block the sun from her eyes. The child they'd been given years ago had grown into a tall, awkward teenager, but it was clear that the years had bestowed none of Micarica's domestic prowess, or Caleb's love of their hardy, prosperous farm.

At the moment, the half-elf girl was at the top of the tallest tree on their stead, one long bronzed arm around it's bare tip and leaning out, scouting, it seemed. Micarica called to her again, knowing full well the girl could hear her well enough, an watched as she moved down the trunk quickly, leap to the ground from a safe distance, and sprint towards home.

Aye, the human woman sighed, can't blame her for her blood.

"I did all m'chores before I come out," Lyri explained, as if in expectation of some scolding. "I even cleaned my room like you been after me to do."

Micarica softened, unable to stay frustrated with her fosterling. "Aye, and a good job done of it, too, li'l one. Or, " her tone turned wistful as she reached out and caressed the girl's cheek before tucking a strand of her auburn hair behind her ear. "perhaps not so little anymore, aye?"

Lyri blushed and suddenly hugged Micarica, holding her human mother tightly. "I love you, mum" she whispered, before releasing her. "Are you baking?"

How like her to avoid matters of the heart, so timid when it comes to real emotion, Micarica mused. She chalked it up to Lyriandel's parents death, killed by bandits yet the babe spared. "Come help me with the baking, and run into town for me, and you can have some pie when you get back."

Lyriandel grinned, and raced past Micarica into the kitchen. As much as she dreamed of being elsewhere most of the time, Lyri was pretty sure that, out there, she'd never get to taste anything as wonderful as Micarica's pies.

I think it's safe to say he was a visionary, a genius, and responsible for the creation of so much joy, connectivity, and knowledge. He was a giant among men, a gifted soul, and his loss will be felt for decades to come.

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for all you gave to the world. Thank you giving the world a sense of interconnectedness brought about by the progressive nature of computers.

Thank you for being.

Rest in peace, brave pioneer of the silicon. We will miss you, and think of you each time we fire up our iPods.
