Alôndas was ready when the door opened and 3 things burst out and attacked, though he was surprised it was only 3 smaller feral looking creatures; he expected something larger or maybe more of them. In any case; with his new staff in his left hand he began simple gestures with his right hand and muttered words of power as he chose his target. Wembley was closest to the mage, but he heard the Cidal speaking his own incantation so he figured he could handle the one coming at him. The Syl mage made a choice then, gesturing with two fingers in a shooting gesture a dart of magical energy (Magic Missile) streaked from his fingers towards the back of the creature headed towards Dudley.

I also had thought to use Detect magic to see but figured we wouldnt have time just now, maybe after the big 'whatever-it-is' that comes out of that block.

Give it a try, be interesting to see!

Alôndas gazed around the room and was a bit disappointed that it was only an armory; the other rooms had been more interesting. Weapons were last on the mage’s list of interesting things. His gaze fell upon a rack of staves to their left and his eyebrow raised; he might find a better quality staff then the one he currently possessed.

“Oh dear!” Says Ivan with a dramatic air of dread. “Not this room! This is where that thing with the claws and the fangs and the hey hey hey came out of that block there. Better arm yourselves fast dudes because we are going have company.”

The Syl mage looked to the cat then to the stone pillar before them, noting the apparent seams along the edges. Before he could ask, others had already voiced the question to Ivan about what he had encountered in this room. Leaving the group he strode quickly over to the rack of staffs to the right and scanning them quickly he would choose one if it appeared better than the one he held.

“I suggest you take Master Ivan’s advice,” the mage said as he himself removed a weapon from the rack, “something will shortly be coming out of that pillar to confront us and good weapons are something that we have in short supply.”

Hefting the stave he looked it over and tucked his own in the back of his belt to lay across his back as he turned to face the pillar and prepared his mind for spell casting. He stayed near the rack of staffs, it gave him a clear path to the pillar and whatever was coming out of it.

(OOC: His Armor spell is still active on him, at least till he gets hit and takes damage, and he is clearing his mind and gathering his strength preparing for what is to come. Please let me know about the staff he takes. )

"Now this wine cellar is a mind twister if you had not noticed. You can go up forever or down forever and still keep going through the same rooms. Really quite annoying. Now I believe I came in the portal at the top of the stair”, he says pointing up the stairs to the only room you have not gone to yet. “Now that portal lead to where the ten ugly creatures were trying to eat me. There is nothing up in that room to bother you. Whole lot of bottles. I have found so far that every room has four portals. there may be some doors but in the end, the portals are the only way too get from room to room.”

Alôndas listened to the talking cat and to the others discussing what to do; after listening to them all he made his own suggestions.

“I looks like we will be unable to avoid these portals,” he said as he looked at the nearest one in this room, “if we hope to get out of this place.”

When talk turned to dealing with the 10 nasties that tried to eat Ivan, the mage nodded in agreement with several others, “There is no need to kill, if it can be avoided, but we should be prepared for trouble. I think we should confront these beings to see what, if anything, they know of this place.”

Sorry I haven't been around, been a busy holiday season.

Doesn't seem like anything has changed though so I didn't miss anything.

I just want to point out that Amur had suggested the crossbows below be broken out for the crew; if that is accepted he will assist in handing them out. If not, he will just try and assist anyone else that might need it as he doesn't have anything that will help them with the Rocs at this range.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! By the gods you be ugly creatures!” the cat shrieks and jumps straight out of the cask to land on top the cask beside this one. Suddenly it becomes aware that everyone is staring at it as it standing on the cask at 2 feet tall on its hind legs.

Quickly the cat drops to all four and says, “Umm. Meow. Meow. Meow.”

“Fascinating!” Alôndas said as he jumped back and stared at the talking feline. He raised an eyebrow when it dropped down and started to Meow and pretend it hadn't just spoke; a faint smile lifted the corner of his mouth just slightly. Before he could respond, others took action to capture the cat.

He stepped back as Wembley attempted to catch the slippery feline, and was unsuccessful. When Crow stepped up and addressed the cat and even offered to take a 'nip' of whatever the cat had lit up to smoke; Alôndas remained silent. This was the same Ranger who had chastised him for picking up a bottle and here he was smoking an unknown substance from a strange talking feline. Who was the reckless one now? But the Syl remained silent, it would do no good to say anything to the Ranger, if anything was going to happen it was too late now.

“Master Ivan is it?” Alôndas spoke up finally as he looked around the rest of the room, “Do you reside here? Or are you just passing through as are we?”

“Do you know if the Master of this House is home?” He asked in the end, it was a question he dearly wanted answered if possible.

(OOC: Sorry I haven't posted already, been a busy holiday season. )

Subject: Is there a Dwarf about?

Alôndas wasn’t surprised when they found the next room full of spirits; he only looked around and wondered at how long it took to acquire such a collection, some of them must be quite old and therefore possibly quite valuable and tasty. He might be tempted later to come back and investigate the ‘vintage’ of some of the libations amassed here.

Moving on upwards to the next room, where they once again found another room of spirits but with another portal as well as stairs. Before they could really begin their examination of this room though, they heard a ‘snoring’ sound. It did indeed sound like snoring; he silently wondered if they had stumbled upon a sleeping dwarf somewhere. He didn’t know why but he would imagine it would be very hard to get a dwarf, with their love of drinking, to leave these rooms of bountiful spirits.

Locating where the snoring seemed to be coming from, Alôndas slowly moved up to the large cask from where it sounded as if it were coming. Peering over the top, it shouldn’t be hard at his height, he looked for the source of the noise. He was cautious though, his stave still held at the ready just in case it was another of those Ninja-like guards, though he doubted they drank or snored.

Alôndas voted for Up the stairs; if anyone wishes to go back through the portal that is up to them, but he doesn't plan to go that way at this time.

“ORCS ON ROCS!”

Amur looked to the sky and his eyes bugged open as he saw the four large forms moving there way.

“Rocks? Those look like Giant Birds!” he exclaimed as he instinctively moved away from the railing as if he get away from the things coming after them.

The boy had been glad when they had set out on another adventure; the voyage had been a rough one and he had rediscovered the seasickness that had plagued him on the early part of the first trip. Seems the rougher seas would be a problem for him for some time to come.

When they had come closer to their destination it smoothed out and he was able to once again walk around without his stomach threatening to turn itself inside out. But now as they drew within sight of port their were going to be attacked by Orcs riding a giant bird of some sort.

Amur drew his small hand crossbow but then looked at it as useless as it didn’t have the range, but when he looked down at it he had an idea.

“I think it might be a good idea,” he yelled turning to the rest of the party/crew, “if we break out some of those Heavy Crossbows we are carrying below. I think we are going to need them.”

He had learned what they were carrying in the ship's hold during the voyage; being naturally curious he had spent some time below decks going through all of the cargo. Who knew what useful items one might find when you looked.

If the decision was made to use the crossbows, the boy would hop down below and assist in handing out the weapons and bolts to the crew.

Subject: A response

The group puts out a suggestion to go up the stairs. "Sounds like a fine plan to me. But I was thinking... think we should check to see what would happen if we stepped back through the portal? I'm just wondering if it leads back to the place we were just at, or if it teleports us to a whole new adventure. What do you think? Should we test it out first?"

“An excellent notion,” Alôndas responded to the Cidal’s remarks and nodded his head, “Would anyone like to volunteer to try it out?” He glanced at Crow and raised an eyebrow questioningly.

“If anyone does this though,” he went on, “I suggest they go through and it does take them back to where we were that they return here immediately to inform us all. If it takes you someplace else, you might not want to try and step back through the portal as no telling where it would take you. We might not find you, ever.”

He gave a little smirk as he was want to do at times when something amusing came to him.

Alôndas held onto his staff when it was struck; he was surprised when the blow came from the side, but he saw someone in his infravision lunge in-front of him and realized someone had come to his aid and ran into his staff.

Suddenly the lights all came back on; light from Gamard's staff and all the candles in the room. He blinked and looked down at the figure of the man in black clutching the bottle tightly in his hands.

“Fascinating!” he exclaimed.

Looking at Mal standing close to him, the Mage looked at the mark on his face which didn't appear too bad.

“Are you alright?” he asked, “I appreciate the thought of coming to my aid but you shouldn't rush forward into danger when you can't see where you are going.”

“Seems our 'friend' here,” he said glancing back down at the still form of the Man in black, “has a mission to protect this stash of spirits. Maybe we should refrain from removing any more bottles for now.”

Examining the still form of the man he reaches up and absently strokes his chin in thought.

“I am not sure this thing is alive,” he says after a few moments, “probably some sort of magical construct or servant assigned to this cellar. Fascinating!”

If the man doesn't move or attack them, Alôndas turns to the others after looking at the other two exits from the room.

“Up might be a more interesting and safer choice,” he said finally, “the lower levels of a Necromancer's abode are usually reserved for more 'unsavory' things.”

He waited for the decision and then fell in line behind the more heavily armored fellows where he could assist if necessary.

“Well now,” her voice was strong despite the deep lines of age that crisscrossed her face, “what ails you, young man?”

“Young man?” the old man said with a smile, “It has been along time since anyone called me that.”

He lowered himself gracefully into the offered chair, as he touched the wooden chair it began to change. The wood began to grow branches which grew rapidly; sprouting smaller branches with leaves as the chair grew and enveloped the man becoming a living wooden throne rather than a simple chair in an inn.

“I hope I am not intruding,” he said as he released his stave which remained standing next to him being held in place by several branches which grew out to wrap around the staff holding it where he left it, “I saw you here and thought some conversation might be more interesting than sitting and simply observing. But, if you would rather be left to your books....”

He left the question open ended and raised an eyebrow in inquiry.

His sharp eyes took in the elderly Elvin woman before him; he noticed her tomes and her writing implements and took her for some sort of Sage perhaps. He was still amused at her assumption that she was older than him just because she was an elf; it was something that many others before her had assumed as well. It was a logical postulate since he appeared to be human or maybe even Half-elvin in nature but in truth he was something much more.

“Forgive me,” he said inclining his head towards her, “my name is Caerroil Wildwood.” His voice, though soft of tone, was a strong bass-tone and reverberated like thunder rolling down from the mountains during a storm.

Alôndas acted instinctively seeing the man dressed in black with a … was that a wooden sword? ... bearing down on him quickly; as the room was plunged into darkness he threw the bottle in his hands in the direction of his attacker. He grasped his staff in both hands as he took a single step backwards and lowered his long stave parallel with the floor pointed towards where he had last seen his attacker. He was surprised that the ‘man’ didn’t register with his infravision; that meant he also was possibly an undead.

(OOC: Ok, his Armor spell is still in effect from when he cast it back with the rats. He is basically moving back and jabbing his staff out like a lance hoping the attacker will run into it. The staff being wood, it doesn’t have a heat signature either, so I wouldn’t think he could see it.)

Man, it was only one bottle.

Hmmm, first thought might not be a good one. Thought of chucking the bottle at him and then using fire to light him up, but then thought with all the combustible liquid in the room it might go up in a flash and kill us all.

Will ponder the mage's options.

No worries, I do not intend to let the verbal sparring get out of hand; though I would like to point out that Crow started it! J/K

There should be a little conflict between different characters, I mean we wont agree on everything in life. But dont worry I will keep it under control.

As for leadership, I only mention it because my character expects it, being lawful and all, he thinks someone should make the decisions on direction and such. I agree also that each character doesnt need to be told what to do in every instant, just a leader is good to make the choice say when half the party wants to go one way and the other half the other.

But if no one wants to lead, so be it. Just a suggestion.

Moving on!

Actually, the haughty Elf would welcome orders from someone in charge, he is lawful after all. He doesn't mean to be a problem, he is just confident in his thoughts, at least till proven wrong.

So, if Mal wanted to take command of the group, Alôndas would follow orders, as long as they were not evil of course.

Subject: Where else could you go?

“Mage, you say worry only of myself unless you open door or chest". (Another laugh) “Then what do you call going through the portal that led us here but a door. A door not all of us wanted to enter in the first place. However disregarding any careful thought on your part, you went through it first nonetheless. I’d say I have right to worry, Mage.”

Alôndas's time to chuckle, “While I respect the Cidal's ability with locks and traps, I don't think he is very skilled at determining a trap on a Magical portal. Besides, we have already used one portal to enter the first room, and I had already touched this portal and determined it didn't 'explode' or anything. The only danger would be in where the portal might have taken us; which I felt that any of us would be adequate to test that out by stepping thorough it, so I volunteered. Now, as for not wanting to enter, I did not see anyone push you through the portal. If you had another way out of the room rather than one of the portals, I suggest you should have taken it.”

"As for 'careful thought'," the Mage said to the Ranger as he walked away, "I don't do anything without weighing the possibilities, sometimes the only way to determine the outcome is to take a chance."

Alôndas then grinned slightly and added, “Though, if I do make a mistake that costs me my life, I give you permission to say 'I told you so'.”

(OOC: not trying to be difficult here, but my character is a confident one and since these portals deal with magic, his bailiwick, he sees it as he would know more about it than any other of the party. He feels he is being singled out for doing something that someone would have had to do in the end, enter the portal. Saying that he is being reckless by going where we were all going to have to go anyway, is not going to make any sense to him.)
