Elyra needed no urging to return to the ship. Making her way quickly to the ship she hoped that their ship was faster than the one approaching over the horizon. There had been enough excitement for one day already.

"Don't wory Areldor, I can run and talk at once. Kind of tricky at times but I have even managed to run and chew that new stuff they call gum at the same time also." Elyra kept one eye on the dragon as she followed the other seekers out of the cavern.

"I have no intention on fighting the beast Crow. Seems I suggested we leave the gold alone in th efirst place. Just wanted to give anyone feeling especially brave a chance to earn a place memorialized in song."

I go with running away. Just checking to see if those who were so brave as to steal dragon treasure wanted to stick it out. Hehe

All seemed to be going well as the Seekers made their way up the stairs. But then, as it often does, greed caused some trouble. The coins heaped into the chest spilled out and rolled down the stairs making a noise that ended only when the coins ended up in the pool. For a moment all seemed fine and then in an instant things turned for the worse. A creature half dragon and half turtle rose from the pool and began moving up the stairs. After a moment of panic, Elyra noticed that the creature was too big to fully ascend the stairs. "Now, do you doubt this is a dragon's horde?" she asked those who were taking the gold. Then she added, "That thing cannot get to the top of the stairs. Anyone want to see if we can kill it with ranged weapons and spells?"

"I'll give you all the gold I carried out Amur." Elyra joked. "Just try to remember that dead men get no share and keep your eyes open on the return trip." Looking around she added, "Is everyone ready? If so we can get moving."

"Not all of us seek just gold Amur. Besides, we have found the gold and noone else knows it is here so it is safe enough to do some research before taking it. The parchment could have been cursed, that is true enough. As for staying on the boat next time that is not likely to happen. Someone has to look out for young ones such as you who are smitten with gold fever." She smiled at him to show her joking intent with the last.

"I also wish to return to the ship quickly as possible. Remember once we are out those remaining skeletons might be sticking around so eyepatches on everyone. As for the gold, I am taking none of it for I am not sure how to interpret the parchment. Those who wish to take it are free to do so but keep a bit of a distance from me." Looking at the others they appeared ready to go. "Master Crow, if you would be so kind as to lead us back to the ship."

Crow just seemed so ready to be up front and leading until now so I had to rib him a little bit. Hope you are not mad.

"Thomas, we did indeed come seeking treasure. But there is more to treasure than gold. Information can be valuable as well. We know where this gold is located and that it is more than we can haul. Perhaps I am wrong about it being guarded by a dragon but are you willing to take that chance with only us few, inexperienced Seekers to stand against it if I am right? We can return and either gather supplies to come back or we can sell the location to others for a tidy profit with no manual labor required."

Elyra looked up at Crow, "So our mighty ranger is scared to go further and will bravely guard the rear? Are you sure that is how you want to be immortalized in song?"

Elyra suddenly remebered a question asked about the passage. Turning she looked ahead to see if the passage appeared to continue or if this chamber was a dead end.

"There could be survivors further down, that is true. If they managed to stay alive this long. Returning to town would allow us to buy proper supplies to better explore this place. We are already using make shift torches and if we go deeper we might end up trying to get out in the dark."

Elyra returned to the parchment and studied it again. "I think I know why this gold is just lying around and what happened to the pirates. If I read this right, this is a dragons hoard and the pirates were cursed for trying to steal it." She dug out the single gold coin given to her on the way down the steps. "Perhaps I will leave this here. Now I really think we should return to town and report this and not poke around too much more. One thing I learned from the songs I sing; there are bold adventurers and old adventurers but no old, bold adventureres."

Carefully studying the bracers, Elyra turned them and checked the marking. "Well crafted but somewhat delecate. Not intended for a warrior. Being made of metal, thieves would have no use for them. No markings of any god I have heard of and I have heard of many." After a few more turns her eyebrow rose. "Ahh, now I know. These are designed for one who practices magic. Areldor, come look. These are designed for one such as you. If I am right they will grant you some extra protection during combat. How much I cannot tell." Elyra held them out to Areldor.

Taking up the wand she once more searched her memory for answers. "Well balanced. A bit of soot on the hand grip area. Reminds me of one they had at the academy. Some sort of offensive wand but what?" Closing her eyes she became lost in concentration. "Lightning? No, not quite. Poison gas? No they never showed us that one. Fire? Of course, they had that uncharged firewand and it also had soot on the handle. Of course being used up it was never demonstrated. I remember them saying that these types of wands have limited charges." Holding it carefully she looked at Areldor. "I believe it is your lucky day to become the owner of two magic items. I cannot tell you exactly what will happen when you use this but I would caution against practicing as it may not have many charges left, perhaps as few as one." As she handed it over she noticed a tiny engraving. "Hmm, this is an archaic language etched here." She pointed out the engraving. "If I am correct it says 'Faldian Fire!'. Just promise that you will not point that thing at me."

Elyra was gald for the extra time she spent at the bard academy. It was in those extra years she learned enough about languages to translate at least a portion of the parchment. Although it did not give specifics, it appeared that there was a battle of some sort in the area that has destroyed the city. "The parchement speaks of the skeleton pirates and the destruction of the city. It also speaks of orc mages, giants and dragons. We made it past the pirates but I would not like to run into magic weilding orcs or dragons. Perhaps it would be best if we retreive some of this gold and report our finding." She had just finished speaking when a call came that some magic items had been found. "Magic items you say? Well this place gets more and more interesting." Elyra made her way to the items. "Well now, these look somewhat familiar. I am sure I saw something like this in professor Ferksburg's advanced magical jewelry course. Or was it in professor Thornbloom's class on identification of magical items. Well either way let me think a moment and see if I can recall anything in particular about them.

Elyra felt Mylos tap her knee and saw him point. The skeletal hand seemed to be cluthching some sort of parchment. "I see it Mylos. Perhaps it would be best if we both take a look at it before moving deeper." Elyra raised her voice to be heard by all. "I would like to take a look at that parchment with Mylos before we head down any further. Might give us a clue as to what awaits." Elyra made her way past the others on her way to the skeletal hand. Carefully she removed the parchment and took a look. "Hmm, the hand seems to be missing a thumb. Looks like it was bitten off somehow." After a brief glance at the parchment she added, "Anyone want to help look this over?" Elyra also thought about the gold. Why was it being carried in here and by whom? Perhaps simply reporting the gold would be smart. Plus it would give them all a chance to confer with the captain about the skeleton pirates.

Standing rear guard, Elyra watched as the others decended before starting down herself. The light of the lantern provided plenty of light for her to see with her elvin ability. She hoped that there were no more nasty things waiting for them.
