I believe you guys should clarify what system is going to be used here. Fate Core? Pathfinders? D&D 3.5e, 4e, Next (some are doing it), AD&D 2e?

Connections guy would be good (who doesn't love a sci-fi bard?), and also the gunnery gunner with the guns, but perhaps less so. I've a feeling we'll be more talky than shooty.

Surprised you don't have any suggestions for my character! Also Schnozzle -might- be waiting on me to post his character... hopefully not, as I'm being a slow asstronaut. Nevertheless, he's a scientist and biologist, it seems, with little on the way of Medic and more on the way of Science and Life Support.

I think they pumped up a lot of Bryan Cranston in the trailers to use him too little in the movie, focusing on the boring main character storyline. This should be a movie about giant monsters, not footsoldiers.

Still, the bits of giant monster it does have... oh my.

Gojira!

I'll proceed to sending my 'secret' to Alacrity so he can properly start planning the blackmails.

-Background and History

Beatrix Dyster was born on the hellworld of Yeremyh, Concord subsector of the Solomani Rim. A poor, desert place with no natural occurence of water and a terribly thin and tainted atmosphere, she was lucky enough to belong to a reasonably successful family. Although not really wealthy, the woman lived her whole childhood and early teen years in comfortable dome complexes near the planet's capital.

Her father worked as a broker of some renown, with people often going out of their way of main trading routes to trade for his goods. Eventually he gathered enough funds to move the family to the immensely more hospitable planet of Suleiman, nearby subsector capital.

She was always fascinated by the numerous and wildly different ships that came and went during her visits to the starport. It wasn’t long before Bee (as her family nicknamed her) found her way into the ranks of young aspiring pilots, when a friend and old client of her father helped getting her into the Imperial Navy’s Flight College.

Dyster, as she came to be called amongst the military, was one of the most promising and successful graduates, a couple years later. Still, she first served as crewman Ensign amonst non-combat vessels throughout the Empire before being assigned a Helm position. As soon as that happened, though, she quickly rose through the Navy’s hierarchy and demonstrated her outstanding pilot skills, as well as her aptitude for Astrogation and bridge command.

She passed more than a decade piloting for the Imperium, getting to know hundreds of systems as she helmed patrols, fought pirates and contacted new alien species. Her superiors often took interest on her career, not rarely impressed by her skill, and it wasn’t hard to achieve Commander rank as she matured.

On the late years of Beatrix’s service, her response to a dire situation secured her reputation once and for all. On a routine event near Antares, a malfunction caused her vessel to misjump. Although the problem was quickly fixed, the ship was suddenly tossed into hostile territory: a raiding fleet was in the vicinity, and they wouldn’t miss on the opportunity to seize a Navy Starship with several officers and resources. Not only so, but the leftover fuel was enough to but a single extra jump; a second misjump could leave them stranded, or worse. The criminals were fast to react, and the nearby barges promptly shot at their ship. Although Beatrix took quick evasive maneuvers, a minor hull breach occurred, and the Chief Astrogator was hit by debris and had to be taken to the infirmary.

Without a specialized Astrogator, under fire and low on fuel, it seemed like a lost case for the Imperials. Commander Dyster, however, managed to accomplish the impossible. Calculating the coordinates for the jump herself, as swiftly as she could, she readied the jump faster than ever, eluding the raiders before any major damage could be done. That act alone earned her the Starbust for Extreme Heroism, and in a couple weeks her name was in the tongues of entire sectors for her bravery and excellence in service.

Beatrix retired from Naval service shortly after, sent away with honours and being offered a retainer position. In a few months she set away for Regina, hoping to find new places to put her abilities to good use.

-Physical Description

Clad in her light cloth armor, this lithe figure of a woman manages to impose respect by presence. At just above some 5'6'' and 123lbs, Dyster exudes an aura of confidence that by far surpasses her physical imponence.

She walks with adamant conviction, her greaves clanging with unseen weight each time her feet lightly waver through the floor; her cloth flowing haphazardly with her advance. Still, for all the certainty of purpose and confidence of her stride, there is a certain restrained poise in her movements; an elegance that may not always be apparent at glance, but quickly pronounces itself as one observes the pilot.

Her visage would be often found covered, in part at least, by a high-tech shading lens which always seemed to appear with different opacities. Still it wouldn't be hard to gaze upon her harmonious features: the woman's bright azure gaze centered the countenance of someone who felt still in her earnest years, a spark of life and joy holding an infinite curiosity behind its color.

There was an exotic allure to her appearance. The lower half of the woman's face would be interesting enough: a strong, yet still feminine jaw outlined her elliptical semblance; a barely prominent chin created contrast with somewhat pronounced cheekbones outlining Beatrix's face where her hairline did not. Two penetrating, yet serene crystal gazes centered her form in cunning, almost catlike eyes, whilst her eyebrows slanted downwards from a high-arching outer half to an almost mischievous look in the middle, which descended towards a thin, slightly up-turned nose sitting above a pair of full rose lips. Her short, dark black hair concluded the semblance, cascading downwards around her head to end not long after the jawline, with a thick bang elegantly curving around her face, covering half of it before snipping outwards.

-Finances

In hand: 4,430 Cr.
Savings: 35,000 Cr.
Annual retirement pay: 10,000 Cr.
Monthly retainer pay: 1,000 Cr.

My character is a pilot extraordinaire, so that's covered, and a retired naval commander, which should weigh in leadership decisions, I'm sure.

I don't at all mind collective leadership based on individual experience, though.

I did roll a 0 on an aging roll... lost 1 Endurance, but it seems that has been retconned.

Edit: Also, I don't think anagathics negate the effects of previous rolls, they just delay your next (or first, if you take it before 34) aging roll until you stop taking anagathics, and the aging continues from then on.

I've been developing a new character (the creation system gives me a lot of inspiration, I think), an infiltrator-assassin type, using the Scoundrel book. Wanted to share with you people.

Here's a sketch I was doing earlier, without the full gear/armour, only some of the weapons:

Tough to hear you're having health issues, specially when that's preceded by 'major'. Here's hoping you get better than you were before the illness! You do have a padre's prayers.

And I don't think you should worry about deadlines as long as you're having this kind of problem. Just relax, you know.

Schnozzle, here's Fern's fact check.

First: on your characteristics, you have Dexterity 6 with a (-1) modifier. Note that characteristics on the 6-8 range have no modifier at all;

Second: note that your "TL14 Computer/5", at that weight, is a Hand Computer, not a HUD, Wafer Jack, Computer Terminal or similar. The total mass is also off by 0.5kg, but meh;

Third: on the character creation record, it's noted you gained Engineer (any) at both your first and second terms, yet in the end, you only have Engineer (life support) 1. You should have either a second rank of Engineer (life support), or one of Engineer (m-drive, j-drive, electronics or power);

Fourth: similarly, you gained a full rank of Language (any) at your last term, yet noted it as 0 instead of 1 and specialized;

Fifth: again on the CCR, you mention gaining Admin at third term, yet the skill is nowhere to be seen;

Sixth: again on the CCR, you listed out 3 instances of gaining Life Science, yet in the end you have Life Science 4. Basic training, which is 0 skill level, doesn't count towards positive levels. Unless, of course, this is your extra (package/solo) skill, connection skill or similar. I suspect, however, your extra skill is Gun Combat (slug pistols), as I didn't see mention of you acquiring it anywhere;

Seventh: on the matter of Gun Combat, however you may have acquired it, it can't be specialized and level 0. You either have non-specialized Gun Combat 0, or specialized Gun Combat (slug pistols) 1;

Eighth: like 6th, you gained 1 instance of Computers at fourth term, and ended up with Computers 2. Remember basic training is 0, and 0+1=1. Or, again, this could be an extra skill;

Ninth: you mentioned mustering out a scientific toolkit, yet it is not listed on your belongings. Careful not to forget about it, and note that it does weigh 12kg.

That is all I could find that seems wrong. One other suggestion, though, is to scratch that "equipment/belongings" sheet from the first page and list everything at the second page. As of now, your two equipment lists are inconsistent with one another, each having items the other doesn't. But it's not really -wrong-!

I'm kind on the same boat, of having played RPGs for more than a decade, but mostly without real, established rules until recently. I find it way more fun though (with the rules).

And here comes big Al to ruin the fun of anonymity on the internet. Heh.

Well, not stretching it. I'm male, my name is David and I live all the way down on Brazil. I am not married to anyone on this site, nor have kids with awesome aliases.

I always liked roleplaying female characters, which is why I created this account as is. Amathiel was one of the first characters I played and really grew attached to. I play males as well, of course, but for some reason I feel I am more invested and create richer personalities when I'm writing women.

I have played RPGs since 1997 or so, not continuously. Mostly were homebrew systems, but I'm familiar with D&D 2, 3 and 3.5 and some less shiny platforms. Never heard of Traveller 'til now.

Nice meeting y'all.

I had no idea about how exactly you wanted him to look, so I just doodled a man with a laser rifle in the back, a battery on the left leg and circuits in the back of his neck. Also gave him a lot of stuff, since you have a lot of stuff.
