Subject: At least it's not a white rabbit

Areldor could not believe the conversation that was happing. After Mylos slipped in grabbing more of the lose coin sending more it the air and into the calm pool, which awoke the beast that guarded it! The young Dragon Turtle raced out of it’s under water lair and started up after Seekers. The creature got stopped by its girth and could not make it past the second landing. Areldor was thankful but the Elyra was talking from behind wanting to fight the beast! Crow who was guarding from the top with his bow ready comment back with the female bard as did Tomas.

With the beast large mouth snapping and could have some type of breath weapon at any moment Areldor looked at the bard and with a stern look and spoke forcefully saying

“Women! This is not the time or place get moving!”

Being that they were at the end of the line, Areldor was very motivated to get to the surface and did not want to end up like the previous owner of his new wand.

Will post something to night. But I remember Jozan had flooding problems last month(?)in his place of residents so I wonder if he still out of his home. But I agree with keeping alive everyone and make it back to town. But I do have an itch in trying out the "fire stick". But I think for now it's Run! Areldor Run!

Well I think this is a first. The magic user gets to be rear guard. I will go with this if there is no objections.

“Well Jaufre, If there is anyone else down here we will not find them today.” Resting his hand on the holy warrior shoulder, “Let’s go back to the group and see what we are to do next. My bet is that we are coming back to get what gold we cannot carry anyway. Maybe some new clue will appear upon returning.” Giving the paladin a reassuring smile hoping to convey that he to was wondering if others came down here for safety and got trapped and found a way out or was the magic user the only one. He did think it was strange that the blockage to the entrance was large and was not done from the inside. But what was bothering him the most was a hand and only a hand was found. The rest of the body was nowhere to be found. Where did it go? As Jaufre and Areldor walked back to the group he glanced at the pool of water.

Others had bagged up as much gold as some could carry and more. The illusionist thought he would still heed Elyra's warning “since she was right about the bracers and the wand she might be right about the curse.” He spoke to himself, but did leave the room for a changed mind later. As the seekers started to leave it seemed that Elyra deemed herself the leader and started to give orders to Crow.

"I also wish to return to the ship quickly as possible. Remember once we are out those remaining skeletons might be sticking around so eyepatches on everyone. As for the gold, I am taking none of it for I am not sure how to interpret the parchment. Those who wish to take it are free to do so but keep a bit of a distance from me." Looking at the others they appeared ready to go. "Master Crow, if you would be so kind as to lead us back to the ship."

Then Amur responded in a tone that made it sound like Elyra was becoming “the bossy bard”

“I agree we should take what we can haul and then return for the rest later,” the boy said and again shook his head when the female bard spoke of leaving the treasure. He turned to her with an incredulous look upon his young face.

“Iffin you don’t want the risk might I suggest you stay on the ship next time,” he turned to go but added as he did, “ever think it ma be the parchment that was the problem?”

She fired back with,

"Not all of us seek just gold Amur. Besides, we have found the gold and noone else knows it is here so it is safe enough to do some research before taking it. The parchment could have been cursed, that is true enough. As for staying on the boat next time that is not likely to happen. Someone has to look out for young ones such as you who are smitten with gold fever." She smiled at him to show her joking intent with the last.

Areldor stood there with a small smirk on his face. “She seems to be full of herself right now, but she does have great smile” thinking to himself as he watch and listened

The conversation grew as the illusionist listened as Thomas and Elyra made their points and jests about how to take the treasure or not take the treasure and investigating the cavern. The one remark from Crow was the most amusing and the truest.

Areldor then turned to Jaufre who asked about using the lantern to see if there was more to the cavern and if there were survivors of the city living down here. The paladin had his hand extended with a look of determination, but pain in his eyes form what Areldor could tell. There is more to this than just finding survivors to him and if he was going to look then he was going to help.

Looking at Jaufre with a confident smile, Areldor said “Here is the lantern. But I will join you in the search. Maybe we will find some more magic items or maybe nothing, can’t hurt to look.” Then in his thoughts “Minerva, help us not be remembered as stupid and dead.”

As Areldor was trying on the bracers and listening to the conversation that ensued after Elyra had another look at the parchment.

After hearing what Jaufre and Crow added the illusionist spoke “I think that would be a wiser chose of action? We again do not have the equipment we need, but I wonder if we could get the supplies from ship and maybe some extra help instead of going back to the nearest city?” Then hear a sound off coin hitting the cavern floor. Areldor also remembered his coin and add to the chorus.

"Beware Giants Forbidden Mountains

Danger Dragons Protect City Destroy Forest
Curse Pirates Hid Treasure Doomed City Took Refuge
River Caverns Stay Hidden Ring of Sustenance
Arcane Magic Forbidden Spells Terrible Mistake My Fault

Faldian Misirim
Junrero 23, 97awd"

“Hmm” the illusionist thought to himself. Pondering the writing on the parchment as the bard went down the stairs to meet with Amur. “I understand the pirates line we have lived that and the River cavern could mean where we are, besides the orcs and giants and dragon lines, the forbidden spell one I think could be the worst.” Areldor was pondering when Elyra called to him to come down the lower level near the table. He slowly made his way down with lantern in tow gazing at the amount of treasure that was everywhere. Bars of gold and coin were in the chests and Amur had already said there were no traps to be found.

As he approached the bard she held out some bracers. “These are designed for one such as you. If I am right they will grant you some extra protection during combat. How much I cannot tell." He looked at her with a surprised expression. “Me?” was what he said as he cautiously took the bracers from the Bard. Areldor turned them over in his hand wondering what they would do if he put them on and what type of protection would they afford him? He studied the magic items. Once again reached back into the past trying to finding stories of items found like the one the bard was handing him. Some telling how the magic in the bracer granted speed or the one that Garlin told himself of a man gaining the ability to breath underwater. Areldor chucked at that last thought ,still he was not too sure of them just yet and was going to as her a question about them when she spoke again to him about the wand she was giving the once over too.

I believe it is your lucky day to become the owner of two magic items. I cannot tell you exactly what will happen when you use this but I would caution against practicing as it may not have many charges left, perhaps as few as one." As she handed it over she noticed a tiny engraving. "Hmm, this is an archaic language etched here." She pointed out the engraving. "If I am correct it says 'Faldian Fire!'. Just promise that you will not point that thing at me."

“Minerva be praised “ was what Areldor said as she passed the wand to him. Magic wands were very powerful in the hands of the right people, this was something Uncle Garlin did mention many times to him in time leading up to his exodus. "Wands are tools, but you need to use them at the right time and know the phrase that will activate the magic " Areldor took the wand in hand and looked at it carefully. This was his first real magic wand. He has wooden one that is used in his shows but that just really was a prop. This item had magic stored in it and he could feel it. He carefully went over the wand to make sure he knew which was the business end of it and carefully put it away in side bag with his spell book. Then looked back at Elyra and said "Thank you. but I did hear you said "Faldian Fire" right?" Then with a smile he asked the beautiful bard "Now can you take the time and explain these bracers again."

I guess Minerva is being very nice to me, but I have a feeling that we are going to need the fire power of the wand. My one question is, if they pirates made it this far, what turned them into skeletons? :-/

Subject: Here we are

After receiving a gold coin from Mylos, Areldor looked at the coins they all received from the crew of the ship. “They are the same” the illusionist said quietly, but aloud to himself. Then he joked “May be we are returning treasure for Mad Dog instead seeking it” as he studied the two coins. Then he put them away and adjusted the eye patch on his fore head to make sure it could be seen then got the lantern ready.

Moments later the decision on how the team was to descended into the underworld of the city. This time Areldor was partnered with the Vincent. He proved himself in the last battle and seemed to be a very sincere young man but he did enjoy the female bard for company not just for her beauty but her sharp wit and zeal for life. But he was not that dismayed for the Elyra was behind him. He looked back to her before they started down and said with a sly smile, “Now you are going to do your best not to skewer me with your sharp friends, Right?”As the Seeker’s moved down the stairs, Areldor studied and listened as they moved down. He was going to keep conversation down to a minimum. The skeletons caught them off guard the last time and he was not about to let that happen again so he was going to be extra alert.

Areldor eyes slowly adjusted to the use of the torches and his lantern. He now could see the water that made the “happy “sound. It fell into pool that seem not to overflow and the stairs kept going down toward it and was littered with the same gold coins all the way down. “This is strange very strange” the illusionist thought to himself. “This gold and nothing here to guard it, Great Minerva, please give us knowledge to know what is in our surrounding.”

As they made it to the second platform Elyra spoke up "I would like to take a look at that parchment with Mylos before we head down any further. Might give us a clue as to what awaits.” The two bards noticed something that Areldor missed. They saw a hand with a parchment in it and wanted to examine it before we got to the bottom of the stairs. To Areldor this was a great idea. Maybe once again he believed his goddess would reveal some answers to what has happened here.

Subject: hello happy water ???

Areldor returned the shield to the private but well healed paladin. "You seem to be better." he said as he looked panned his gaze to the rest of the dancers. Tohmas god did bring healing to body and maybe to mind as well. With the dance done there was the job of gathering up what could be found from the undead pirates. Areldor had seen many swords in his day. The Winged Ox brought in wide verity of customer and with that came the tools of their business. The illusionist glanced at the blades with little interest. " I have seen a few of these, but I did not think that I would be seeing the business ends."

As the pile grew it and discussions of what to do next it was Amur who discovered the secret of how the eye patches saved the seekers.

"Seekers!" exclaimed Amur as the realization hit his consciousness like a ton of bricks, "I Know Why Those Skeleton Pirates Did Not Attack Any One Who Wore Their Eye Patches!"

As the others gathered around Amur showed them the Toothless Dragon etched into each cutlass, he gave them a few moments to let it sink in and then added.

“I hope this is not the fate we are destined for.”

The words of the rouge sank in the Areldor mind. "Could this be our fate and what about the gold that each of us are carrying. I wonder what purpose we will find for it?" Then the seekers moved toward the sound of the "happy water" from the north.

The sound of the water grew louder but there was no sign of a river. That was strange to the illusionist, but Crow and Tohmas confirmed that the river was underground. Since the team had stopped, Areldor cleaned more of the dust off his tunic and made sure he had the gold that was given and that his gear was secure. Then from out of nowhere Bartimeous tapped in to his divine power and made any hidden gold glow. I was then the gnome foolishly reached into the hole in a pile of rubble and pulled out the glowing booty. It happened to fast for Areldor to react. Amur was there quickly and jokingly chastised the gnome and discovered that the rubble was covering a passage that went down. "Well did anyone bring a shovel? I wish one of my tricks could make disappear." he said with a slight smile. He was not looking foreword to going underground. These stories he does remember from his days at the tavern. They gave him nightmares as a child how the endless dark hallways and getting lost and the strange creatures. His body shook as the group spoke about moving the rubble and how to proceed after. "Well I am glad I brought this lantern." So as the conversation continued Areldor took off his pack to retrieve his lantern.

Areldor was still with the paladin when Tohmas called out about calling upon his god to bring healing to all those who were wounded. The illusionist was still very surprised that he did not even receive a blow from the encounter with the pirates, so he did not need any healing. But he was very intrigued on how it would work and wanted to watch. Then he turned to Jaufre and asked " Are you going to join?" Seeing that the young man was in some pain even though he was trying to hide it.
